Question - TE25 - how do you get audio out of an asf file??? No.35074
tom  2003-03-04 00:09:47 ( ID:12kuykh8tkw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've got 52 episodes of the sopranos, but 5 of them I have are ASF files and I cannot get audio out of them from tmpg or vdub. Vdub actually says they took asf capabilities out of the program because of a copyright infringement against microsoft. Any clues??????????

Minion  2003-03-04 01:40:08 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What I use to extract the audio from ASF/WMV files is to use "DB Power AMP" to extract it or use it to directly encode the audio to Mp2 audio, But make sure you download the appropriate DB Power AMP Codecs....

ocj  2003-03-04 02:36:26 ( ID:h/v5gmnayao )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just use virtualdub 1.3c and use direct stream copy for audio and video then save the file as an avi and u can use tmpgenc for the new avi file.It usually works flawlessly unless the asf is damaged or improperly encoded.

that version is easily available just search yahoo "virtualdub 1.3c"

Minion  2003-03-04 09:16:51 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have tried the Virtual Dub ASF and I couldn"t get it to work with ASF files(Even though that is what it is supposed to be for) I kept getting a error something like "Couldn"t find Decompressor" or something, But if you want to try it you can get it here : http://www.apachez.net/

ocj  2003-03-04 14:40:23 ( ID:h/v5gmnayao )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

for some asf files u need a voxware codec for audio i think

the only way i could get that codec was by using real one player to play the file and then the codec was downloaded automatically so i could play the file.

You need the voxware codec to decompress the audio but if you can hear the audio from the file then you may already have the codec and the error you have is something else

tom  2003-03-04 18:59:17 ( ID:xguguaxyrll )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for all the help guys. I followed minions first set of instructions and downloaded the db power amp codecs, restarted my computer, put the video back into tmpg and audio showed up. Glad I didn't have to use vdub, although i have downloaded 1.3 just in case. Minion are you the programmer of tmpg or what? you know everything, so you don't even need to be on this site, yet you've helped more people than i can imagine. Thanx for all the unselfishness.

xxx  2003-03-04 19:15:02 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ASF uses windows media audio which should be installed by default with mediaplayer.
You can use Graphedit to extract the audio to a wav if you know how to use it or ASF tools to convert it to AVI, but I would try DBpoweramp first.

Question - TE25 - avi file unsupported when set to video source No.35072
mist  2003-03-03 23:51:30 ( ID:zjthudbhkjh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to convert an avi to mpeg but when i set the avi file to the video
source it sais that the file is unsupported.
I tryed to raise the priority of the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader to 2
as suggested here but it crashed instead.

How can i fix that problem?

thx in advance.

Minion  2003-03-04 01:37:16 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try it at "1" instead of "2"..And if that doesn"t work then make sure you have the correct codec installed and you can try Frameserveing the File with "Virtual Dub", if the AVI File is a Xvid File then try installing the FFDshow Filter/Codec and it helps with Decodeing Xvid Files and DivX files : http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53761&release_id=131530 .

Question - TE25 - Error in XP No.35070
Gary  2003-03-03 22:02:21 ( ID:dyqrzd3/g12 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If I create a .d2v file with DVD2AVI and try and open it in TMPGEnc in XP
it tells me the file is not supported.

When I open the same file in Win98 it opens the file.
Can anybody help, I am getting sick of having to reboot everytime I want to encode a file.

AMD XP 200+ Processor
384 Meg DDR266 RAM
80GIG Hdd
ATI Radeon 7500

Please someone help

Regards
Gary

Copy the DVD2AVI.vfp file from your DVD2AVI folder to your TMPG folder.
If you still have problems, raise the priority of the DVD2AVI project file rerader to '2' in the VFAPI plugins.

Question - TE25 - Why is bad quality on motion part of the video No.35066
steli03  2003-03-03 21:59:41 ( ID:hse7pputsig )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I capture a file mpeg1 useing these settings:
- Video standar line : PAL(625)
- Size: 352x288
- Audio: 44,100KHz, 16bit stereo
- Video Bit Rate: 3Mbit/sec , Constant Bit Rate
and the captured file is perfect OK, but is very big so I use TMPGEnc-2.510 to make it VCD and to make it small. But when in the video file appears some motion scenes TMPGEnc insert lots of square. In the original file everything is OK.

Can u tell me what I do wrong?

ocj  2003-03-03 22:23:32 ( ID:h/v5gmnayao )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That is pretty much an average vcd if it has pixels/squares during high quality action scenes a vcd compiant file has a 1150 video bitrate so if your other file is 3000 bitrate then you have to lose quality in order to make the file size smaller.

If you use 2-pass encoding for a vcd/mpg in tmpgenc then it will use a higher bitrate for action scenes when it's needed and less for scenes with little motion in which a lower bitrate can be used.

Also you may want to try to make an SVCD in my opinion a bitrate of 2200 CBR is near dvd quality and good enough for any average movie.Svcd gives more detail but most dvd players will not play SVCD.

check svcd compatibility at www.vcdhelp.com

Minion  2003-03-04 01:27:52 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Useing the CQ Method will give better results than CBR and take less that half the Time of 2-pass VBR, and setting the "Motion Precition Search" to "High Quality" will help with High Motion scenes...

steli03  2003-03-05 21:25:35 ( ID:hse7pputsig )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

"Useing the CQ Method..."

sorry what this mean?

and

"If you use 2-pass encoding for a vcd/mpg in tmpgenc..."

how do I do that?
tnx

JackassMahoney  2003-03-03 17:34:30 ( ID:alnij9bprzo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i have a dvd screener that i downloaded. in one part on the movie the video hangs and the audio continues to play. so now when i try to encode it the video hanging up keeps it from encoding the rest of the video. any way i can fix this or at least cut that little section out of the avi file?

ocj  2003-03-03 22:25:59 ( ID:h/v5gmnayao )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You should try to split the video with virtualdub by selecting stream copy for video source.

Or just select the SOURCE RANGE when encoding with tmpgenc you should encode it up to the damaged area and then start right after that part with the second encode.

virtualdub is easier though

Question - TE25 - Forced GOP start No.35059
CrocoStimpy  2003-03-03 13:59:33 ( ID:etpvvzygod2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am editing a movie and I need to force a few GOP headers where the chapters are going to start. Any thoughts?

Specifically, can I leave "Detect scene change" on while I also add manual GOP headers? Will they work together?

I want it to do most of them, and I will add the ones that correspond to chapter start positions.

Question - TE25 - AVI to MPG perfect (except no sound :O( ) No.35055
joby  2003-03-03 13:32:21 ( ID:/vbx65w.pik )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When changing an AVI to MPG to burn on to VCD, it does it perfectly, apart from the fact it misses out the sound.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Minion  2003-03-04 01:30:59 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You probably need to extract the audio from the AVI file to a WAV file then use the WAV file as the audio source..The audio was Probably AC3 and Tmpgenc has Problems with AC3 so you can extract it with something like "AVI_Mux"...

sexy-leroy  2003-03-04 09:43:09 ( ID:jrsc6ue7ck2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had the same problem and used VirtualDub to extract the audio from the .avi.
Then I used the .avi and the .wav to create the .mpg file.
The result of this was that all of a sudden the audio and the video were completely out of sync. I have tried it several times and also with different .avi files. I get the same result everytime...

Any idea?

Minion  2003-03-04 20:14:26 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try useing AVI-Mux to extract the audio from the AVI file...

Since I don"t read German I can"t tell you how to fix the error But You can try De-Muxing the audio from the Mpeg and useing something else to Change the sample Rate like "Headac3he"...

Question - TE25 - Help with aspect ratios No.35051
kukm66  2003-03-03 08:06:54 ( ID:iurdrqhdypg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an XVID Divx, 640 x 256(2.5 to 1) at 23.976 fps.

What should I set the aspect ratio to for this film? It will be kept
at wide screen format. Should I unlock and manually set these to the above
resolution?

Why is the default always set at 1:1 when loading files?
Isn't this for showing on a computer?

There are other settings for 4:3, 16:9, 2.11:1 towards the bottom of the
drop down window. Are these for something special?

Minion  2003-03-03 08:29:17 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

1:1 is not the Default Aspect Ratio it is Probably the aspect ratio of the File you are loading into it...Tmpgenc analizes the source file for the aspect ratio and set"s it accordingly.it isn"t allways right though..do a Few Test encodes of a few seconds to see what one looks the way you want it to, But don"t use Media Player to view the Mpeg file cuz it doesn"t play the file with the correct aspect ratio...
