Question - TE25 - AVI 2 MPEG2 No.30929
Rike2990  2002-11-18 22:01:17 ( ID:nyorwqhs2un )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I got an AVI of 730 MB and I want to convert it to MPEG 2 without changing it at all i want similar size and same or even better quality....
how can i do it???

Minion  2002-11-18 23:39:37 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well You Most likely CANT do it...The size on the Mpeg file is directly related to the "LENGTH" of the AVI file NOT the size of the AVI file, if the AVI file is a Full Movie say 90 Minutes then the Minimum size if the File in Low Quality Mpeg1/VCD will Be 900MB and if you want it to be high Quality Mpeg2/SVCD at 90 minutes will be about 1.8gb..So for Mpeg1/VCD then it is about 10mb per minute and about 20mb per minute for Mpeg2/SVCD....

I am having this exact same problem. After running for a little while, the entire computer will just shut down. Does anyone know what we can do here?

Question - TE25 - Multi-Drive segmented AVI by design? No.30926
VideoD00d  2002-11-18 21:00:16 ( ID:0jnhaaa4ig2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I stumbled on to something really cool here? I use Virtual Dub to capture segmented AVI. There is a spill drive, so the avi segments are usually split up between drive D: and drive E: and in completely different folders.

I didn't think TMPGEnc would know about segments on drive E: if I loaded the first segment on drive D:.. But it did!! It loaded up all AVI segments even those on another drive/directory as a single animation.. Is this by design? I had thought, at first, that every segment had to be in the same directory for it to work.

It's really cool so I wonder if TMPGEnc was designed to do it this way. I know some AVI's have code in them that point to the drive/folder location for loading the next segmented AVI in a chain. Does the TMPGEnc segmenting feature look for this code and use it if it's there?

Question - TE25 - Selecting more than only one avi ? No.30921
Sportsfreund  2002-11-18 20:48:04 ( ID:5cnsbyzghmk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi, sorry for bad english:

all i want to do is to select more than only one avi-file after i have already set my template. after i took more than 50 scenes from my dv-cam to my harddrive, these 50 scenes must be added one by one (50 times ctrl+s to save a project and then adding all to the batch-list). This takes time......
If there is still a solution for my problem (and for many more dv-cam users) please tell me, if not - please integrate it in this great encoder.

VideoD00d  2002-11-18 20:55:17 ( ID:0jnhaaa4ig2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Rename each AVI file something like Movie-01.avi, Movie-02.avi etc. etc.

In environmental settings 2.59 select option to load segmented avi as single animation.

Open the first AVI file, the rest should be loaded as well. You can check by looking at the total length of loaded file.

Encode as normal.

Sportsfreund  2002-11-19 19:27:58 ( ID:m0bahskfoum )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

maybe it works... but i don´t want to rename them, cause scenalyzer gave them all the name of the datastamp. i want to keep the filenames as they are (i want to create a video-dvd with the originally scene-names like 20011117 13.00.18 in the menu.

that´s not possible, i think.

but thanks for the answer !!!

ASHY  2002-11-19 21:21:09 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well why don't you simply tag it on the end then.
for example: 20011117 13.00.18-001, 20011117 13.00.18-002 and so on....

sportfreund  2002-11-21 19:57:47 ( ID:5cnsbyzghmk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the option you mean is probably environmental setting-> general-> open sequence files as a movie ? it don´t works. i renamed the scenes as you told me, but tmpg don´t select automatically the other scenes.

schade, :(

Request - TE25 - Multiple file input No.30917
answer42  2002-11-18 20:29:28 ( ID:tq0ukb8.xgj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!

First of all: TMPGEnc is a very great tool.

But wouldn't it be nice to have a multiple file input for the wizard?

I want to build a kind of index of my DV-Tapes. I captured all scenes with e.g. Scenalyzer, every scene is a separate avi-file. Instead of selecting one file only it would be nice to select all files in one directory. The following settings can be used for each file. After burning a VCD with all MPEG-files you can navigate through the scenes at a DVD-TV-set, without PC or DV-Camcorder.

Thanks a lot,
Jens

VideoD00d  2002-11-18 20:55:52 ( ID:0jnhaaa4ig2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Name the avi files properly and select load avi segmented in options.

Minion  2002-11-18 23:30:43 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc DOES have this feature, just name the files "movie 0001.avi & movie 0002.avi ECT... then it will load the files in Sequentially...

jda2036a  2002-11-26 17:36:22 ( ID:amyrpe6fcmh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Except that it only loads up to 20 files at a time. It would be nice if it could load hundreds at a time (e.g. many of my DV projects are split into one scene per AVI file).

Question - TE25 - Subtitling No.30915
flick  2002-11-18 17:57:20 ( ID:nsbkh5almbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have added subtitles to an avi file using virtualdub. Having completed this process, I start frameserving and open up TMPG v2.58 and attempt to open the .vdr file. I then get an error message saying that the file is not supported, can anyone help me solve it please ?

Minion  2002-11-18 23:28:32 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have to set up the "Frame server Client" correctly??? try opening up another instance of V-Dub and try to open up the VDR file with it and if it doesn"t open then you haven"t set up the frame server correctly or there is some other problem with V-Dub..but if you can open it with V-Dub then there is some problem with tmpgenc...

Question - TE25 - frame rates again No.30913
rix500  2002-11-18 14:03:58 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

on the same lines as the previous question, is it possible to convert a low frame rate such as 12 or 14fps into something that will give a decent result when converted to a mpeg.
thanx again

Minion  2002-11-18 23:25:22 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well you can use the "15fps/30fps internal" setting But I have tried these settings many times and they still get a Very jumpy look to them...

rix500  2002-11-18 13:56:25 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

is it possible to change the frame rate of an avi file (ie from 23.9 to 25),and is there a program to do this.
thanx for any help u can give

Minion  2002-11-18 23:23:41 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes it is possible But Not with Tmpgenc, you have to use something like "Advanced NtSC/Pal converter" or "Procoder" will do it but you can"t do it properly with Tmpgenc..There is a AVSynth command that will do it also...

ASHY  2002-11-19 21:38:09 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

AVIfrate will change the framerate of an AVI, but bear in mind this will de-sync the audio which you will then have to shrink or stretch with Cooledit to make it the same length as the AVI.

Question - TE25 - Subtitle and asf No.30908
Tiger@hungary  2002-11-18 12:19:37 ( ID:mfplui6sujh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How can I add a subtitle to an Mpeg 2 film. I've got a movie (DivX)
and a hungarian subtitle for it (.sub, .srt). I can watch it on PC with
MicroDVD but I cant add this file to an encoding. The main thing is : I want
to make a VCD with a subtitle on it, encoded on the video.

Another question: I started to encode a (.asf) movie and the estimated time was
29:35:12 and lenght of the movie is 20 minutes. why does it take so long

Minion  2002-11-18 23:21:08 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You will have to use something like "Virtual Dub" to FrameServe the File and the Subs to Tmpgenc....ASF Files are notoriusly full of errors so if you use something like "ASF Fix" to fix the file and maybe it will encode faster...

Hallo,
if i open an avi file,
tmpgenc will bring me a massage
"...can not open, or unsupported"
What should i do?

Go to "options" to "Enviromental settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct show" to "2"...

Question - TE25 - Tmpgenc 2.58+XVID+VDUB frame server No.30894
Gardel  2002-11-18 10:29:14 ( ID:s2jtz1ncbs. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

usually I use the frame server fonction of virtual dub to re-encode XVID files into divx 5.02 before encode them in TMPGenc to MPEG2 format.

But recently Tmpgenc send me a "unsupported file" message, and I can't use this methode anymore. The frameserver looks working fine, I can encode the XVID with VDUB in a 5.02 avi file. Then I can transform the 5.02 avi in MPEG 2 with TMPG. To be clear :

* XVID --> Divx 5.02 via frame server (VDUB) --> MPEG2 (TMPGenc) : not working
* XVID --> Divx 5.02 in avi file (VDUB), avi --> MPEG2 (TMPG) : working
* Divx 3 or 4 --> Divx 5.02 via frame server (VDUB) --> MPEG2 (TMPG) : working

where is the problem ?

Minion  2002-11-18 23:14:47 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why are you doing it this way????Besides degradeing the Quality by re-encodeing the XViD to DivX you are wasteing a lot of time by doing it this way....And XVid and DivX are both Mpeg-4 formats and they should be close in Quality well not after you re-encode it to divx...I would sudgest doing it the Correct way and Not encode to DivX cuz you WILL Loose Quality this way...

Gardel  2002-11-19 07:10:08 ( ID:s2jtz1ncbs. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks to NOT answer to my question. The quality is absolutly not the problem. Some XVID files produce error in TMPGEnc, and reencoding it in Divx can solve the problem. With the Frame server I don't loose any time.
And the reencoding isn't the only problem. If I want to include subtitle inside the video, I have to use the Subtitler filter of Virtual Dub, with the frame server again. With a XVID, it fails : "unsupported format".
So, you can keep your all-in-one opinion, and only take your keyboard if you have a real solution...

ASHY  2002-11-19 17:55:29 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What are you talking about??? Don't be so disrespectful to someone who is trying to help you.
Minion has just given you some sound advice which you have shunned.

I too don't see the point of re-encoding to Divx 5 and what do you mean by via the Virtualdub frameserver?
Are you saying you are frameserving to TMPG and using IT to encode to Divx 5 and then using TMPG again to encode the Divx file....

....what a waste of time.

If you are having problems with XVID files in TMPG then simply load them into Virtualdub and Frameserve them as they are straight to TMPG and encode directly to MPEG. This DIVX 5 step is totally unecessary.

If you are having problems loading XVID files into Virtualdub then it must be a codec problem so you probably need to re-install the XVID codec.

ASHY

Gardel  2002-11-20 09:45:38 ( ID:s2jtz1ncbs. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ashy, thanks to answer to my question, but when I frameserve XVID in virtual Dub, it's make a unsuported format in TMPG. Like I said before : I can open XVID files in virtualdub, I can convert them or use filter on them in virtual dub, I only can't frameserve them ! It's the only point.

ASHY  2002-11-20 22:10:35 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Create a frameserver file with Virtualdub and then open 'another' instance of Virtualdub and let me know if the file loads into it ok.

If it doesn't load into Virtualdub then the frameserver isn't installed correctly.

ASHY

Gardel  2002-11-21 09:40:02 ( ID:s2jtz1ncbs. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What a great idea !

I have done the test with a XVID film (frameserve in VDUB 1 ,and open .vdr file in VDUB 2) : "can't determinate the file format"...

same test with a DIVX film : all is ok.

So the frameserver is working but not with the XVID codec... I have test it with the last "stable" codec and the last koepi's release. Same error...

ASHY  2002-11-21 21:05:15 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try this program. It can do almost exactly the same as Virtualdub and some things it can't. It can create project files which can be opened in TMPG.

ASHY

Gardel  2002-11-24 20:01:04 ( ID:s2jtz1ncbs. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

thanks a lot again !

But, can you explain to me shortly how to frameserve with this program (the 0.98 release) ? I haven't find any fonction like this in it.

Thanks in advance
