Bug report - dvr-ms audio problem No.58682
rv6abob  2009-02-12 02:45:02 ( ID:9dr5viynjwa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm having a problem encoding dvr-ms audio. I find that whenever there is a "glitch" in the original audio stream, the audio stops encoding right at that point and the rest of the audio is silent. This also happens within the clip-editor. I have to run back to before the error to get audio working again. I can cut several frames out around the glitch and the audio will work correctly. I have reported this bug, but it is a very painful bug to work around. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a better workaround?

Question - I suffer from pixilation No.58678
Hodag  2009-02-09 20:23:26 ( ID:eplsusuo69j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use Newtek's Speededit to transfer homemovies and VHS to DVD. I was wondering how TMPGEnc XPress works on these SD formats. I have used "other" programs, but I get alot of pixilation in the black with it. I would like to hear from you all about using TMPGEnc XPress this way. thanks

tkrave  2009-02-09 21:14:29 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What kind of capture system are you using?

Is there a lot of noise in the source file after you capture the VHS/home movie?

It could be that the bitrate setting is too low in these other programs.
4.0 XPress also has a noise filter that could help if it is video noise.

hodag  2009-02-10 03:35:33 ( ID:np1asozqkew )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I a using a plextor MU-420 external unit also have an internal ATI wonder card. Not sure how to set the bit rate setting.

Noticed that in the black of a scene there is pixilation. I also have a copy of Sony Vegas DVD maker I will try.

tkrave  2009-02-10 19:01:12 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does this pixelation look like video noise/snow or is it big and blocky?

Is it present in the video after you capture it but before you convert it to DVD format?

If it's pixelated before you encode to DVD format, then it may just be a limitation of the capture card.

You may also want to look for 2-pass VBR (Variable Bit Rate) encoding in whatever software you're using.

Question - TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress is compatible with Windows XP SP3? No.58676

Hi all sorry for my English but I speak Spanish I would like to know if it is compatible with TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress Windows XP SP3? which is seen by some bug reports here, because I am interested in buying and I do not want to take a surprise and if I needed to try the trial and I downloaded it I did not go. Thank you!

tkrave  2009-02-09 18:24:56 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm using XP SP3 and 4.0 XPress works fine.

Question - multiple passes No.58674
Dave  2009-02-08 15:09:40 ( ID:tt4jff1aywn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,
I seem to remember in a very old version that you could increase the number of passes. Does that feature still exist? Did it do much?

I understand from a bit of reading that the Pros have software that they can 'hand tweak' the compression during various parts of the movie. What are they doing? Is this a feature that might get added?

Thanks,
Dave

tkrave  2009-02-24 17:52:58 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I know that you can do more than 2 passes when you choose DivX file output (advanced mode), but I've never used it and I don't know how the pros tweak things.

tom.amitai  2009-02-08 10:38:38 ( ID:9rgjcupdqyj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is it possible to use TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress to join two mp4 audio/video files together without re-encoding? Both files have the same resolution, bit rate, etc.

tkrave  2009-02-09 18:01:24 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm afraid not. 4.0 XPress doesn't have any smart rendering feature so everything will be re-encoded I believe.

Question - Noise Reduction Setting for Black and White Film No.58670
wsquared  2009-02-07 18:41:04 ( ID:bc2fzhsm6ek )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using TMPGENC to encode .avis I have created from old and very noisy black and white films into.mpeg for DVDs.

The instruction for setting the controls on the Noise Reduction filter only refers toreducing "color" noise (Chrominance). These films are black and white and have been desaturated. They don't have color noise, only luminance noise

Does either or both of the filter methods in the Noise Reduction filter also effect luminance noise?

If there is no luminance reduction, should I ignore the noise reduction filter when working with Black and White films?

Thanks

WW

There is a new survey on the TMPGEnc website. I think it'll be a good place to let them know what kind of features or products you'd like to see. Plus, who knows? you might win some free software.

Hello, I have a verified registered licensed version 4.2.193, and downloaded the new 4.6 file. When I try to run it now, it asks me for my license, and when I enter it it says it is invalid.

How do I upgrade and keep my previous license??

tkrave  2009-02-06 20:41:41 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You may be inputting an incorrect letter or number. Try 0 instead of O, 1 instead of I, etc.

You may also be using a different language than the license you purchased. For instance, if you bought a German license, you won't be able to use an English update.

If you continue to have problems, contact support and they should be able to look up your license number and tell you if there is a problem with it.

Question - Converting .vob to .mp4 - Best Quality Settings? No.58663
Spininem  2009-02-06 03:13:49 ( ID:oedfgzl7gsk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

With TMPGEnc 4.0 Express, what would be the best quality settings when encoding from .vob to .mp4?

I'm a disc jockey and video jockey and don't want to use the .vob files as they eat more resources than the .mp4 files, plus I can save on hard drive space in going with .mp4. I don't want to lose much in the way of video and audio when converting however.

Starting at the first screen after loading the .vob file...I don't know what to select for "Clip settings"

Display mode: Interlace or Progressive
Field order: Top field first or Bottom field first
Aspect ratio: ?

Any help on settings is greatly appreciated.

tkrave  2009-02-06 20:50:08 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would not change anything in the Clip Settings unless you have to or want to force it to display differently.

The Format Stage is where you want to change your settings since these are your output settings.

Using 2 pass variable bitrate will give you the best quality, and a higher average and maximum bitrate will keep the quality high as well.

tkrave  2009-02-06 18:13:15 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you tried using the Windows "Add or Remove Programs" control panel? Maybe you can uninstall the old version with that before installing the new version.

If you are still having problems, contact support:
