tkrave  2009-03-10 18:30:38 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

As far as i know, 5.1 audio output is not possible with TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress.

old-hack  2009-03-10 19:20:37 ( ID:4imlgra9b3f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I create Windows Media Video output files in High Def (1920 X 1080) with AC3 5.1 audio using Xpress all the time. You might want to consider installing AVISYNTH, K-Lite Codecs Package, and Windows Media Encoder. All of these are free and support numerous codecs that may not be available in the standard installation of Xpress 4.0. Then you can output all types of video resolutions and audio configurations.

I have created over 20 HD-WMV movies from Bluray titles and stream them to my XBOX 360.

old-hack  2009-03-10 20:33:33 ( ID:3n9k60csmcg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here are same general steps I take to create a HD-WMV from a Bluray title:

1. TMPGenc Express works best using MKV video files for HD video
2. You can also import a standard DVD and Xpress will keep the 5.1 audio for you to encode into at least a WMV file - Other output formats may not allow 5.1 audio – Try them to see before encoding
3. AVISYNTH, K-Lite Codecs Package, and Windows Media Encoder must be installed
4. Extract HD video and audio files using EAC3TO. Be sure to convert the video to an MKV file during extraction.
5. Import the MKV video and AC3 5.1 audio into Xpress 4.0
6. Create chapters if you want (5 min per chapter or whatever you want)
7. Import a subtitle if you want using the “Filters” tab
8. Under the “FORMAT” Tab, select Windows Media Video File Output as the output format
9. Make sure that “Video and Audio” is selected for the output stream type
10. Under the “Video” tab, choose “Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile” for the video codec
11. Then choose the options you want for the video format and file size you want – the file size is displayed in the lower right hand corner of this page
12. To speed up the encoding process, select 75 for Video Quality
13. Under the “Audio” tab choose “Windows Media Audio 10 Professional” for the audio codec
14. Select audio encoding type and audio format
15. Under the “Other” tab, select the first position to the right of the +Speed indicator. This will speed up the encoding process.
16. Under the “Options” tab, select “Preferences” to identify default output folder – this is also where you can select to “shut down” when finished
17. I’ve been told by Xpress tech support that enabling “multithread” options may cause your system to run out of memory during the encoding process.
18. Under the “Encode” tab, make sure the output file name is where you want the output to go
19. Move your mouse over the far left Icon and click it to start the encoding.

How do I import the standard DVD using Xpress? I cant seem to find how to do this with the program? DO I need to import it wet another program first? It will not read .VOB files?

tkrave  2009-03-10 21:28:28 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I stand corrected.

Waxings, to import a DVD, use the Source Wizard; there is an option specifically for importing the contents of a DVD.

Ok, Thanks! I see this option but when I do this it gives me all these chapters? The first one is over 2 hours and the other are short. Is the first one that main movie? Do I need to select the other ones and if so will the be in order?

Another thing that I noticed is the Audio pull down does not have a 5.1 option. Only mono and 2ch stereo?

Yes you may be able to choose 5.1 surround under Audio and selecting WMA 10 Pro, but when you check it in any audio receiver it will only register as 2 channel/stereo. They need to fix this issue as everything now days is in surround sound. What good is ripping your Blu Ray, and only to get it played back in stereo. That's a joke...

Question - Best Audio & Video Quality Settings (.mp4) No.58731
Gonzo  Home )  2009-03-07 19:21:02 ( ID:oedfgzl7gsk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm running Ver. 4.6.3.268 and I'd like to know what the best quality settings would be for me to input into the various fields of TMPGEnc for playback.

I'm a mobile Disc/Video Jockey and normally will play my videos through a 2,300 lumens projector and on a 10' x 10' projector screen.

Thank you.

tkrave  2009-03-10 18:28:21 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think the best settings depend on the source file's properties, how big you want the output file to be and what type of device you're outputting it through.

I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to tweaking the format settings, but hopefully this will help.

For rate control mode, choose "2 pass variable bitrate". This will give you the best video quality depending on the complexity of the scene.

For Average and Maximum bitrate settings: If you're storing the videos on a high capacity hard drive and/or space isn't an issue then you can raise the max bitrate pretty high. I believe DVDs have a max bitrate somewhere in the 9000's so going any higher than that will probably not help much since your source files were in the DVD format. Then again, mp4 AVC is much better at compression so you could probably use a much lower maximum bitrate and still retain the original quality of the source file. I'm not an expert in this area so you may just have to play with the numbers and see if you like the results.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to get back on the site in a while.

Thanks again and yes, the information you provided does help.

Question - Batch Encoding .vob Files To .mp4 No.58728
Gonzo  Home )  2009-03-07 19:18:07 ( ID:oedfgzl7gsk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am running TMPGEnc 4 XPress Ver. 4.6.3.268 on a Windows Vista 64-Bit OS.

I'm a mobile Disc/Video Jockey and would like to encode my ripped .vob files to .mp4.

I have a few thousand .vob files that I had previously ripped from my DVD music subscriptions through the years.

My current use of software in displaying my videos while VJing is through Serato Scratch LIVE/Video SL (VSL). Unfortunately, VSL cannot read my .vob files, so I'm forced to convert all of my .vob files to .mp4.

With that, I'd like to know if there's another method to batch encode these .vob files to .mp4 other than the way I am currently doing them.

When I start TMPGEnc, I go to Source and then I'll open up my Windows Explorer and click and drag the .vob files I want to convert and drop them into the Source window of TMPGEnc. Then I have to individually acknowledge each of the files for settings, etc.

Help on this is appreciated.

tkrave  2009-03-10 17:34:08 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Will your files all have the same output settings?

If so, just import all of your vob files into one project so that each vob file is a clip.
Then in the Format Stage, select your output settings and make sure to select "Output each clip in a separate file (or separate set of files)".
http://i44.tinypic.com/2irm8sg.png

This way, you just have to set the format settings once for multiple files. The only downside is that you'll probably have to rename the output files afterward.

If they all need their own individual format settings, then I'm afraid you'll have to do each file one by one.

Gonzo  Home )  2009-04-02 03:27:02 ( ID:oedfgzl7gsk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank you for the information once again. ;-)

I'm converting each DVDs files, which some of them vary from DVD to DVD. I've already ripped all the files as .vob from the DVDs.

I can get away with doing a project for each of the DVDs .vobs.

Thanks again!

Question - CUDA Encoding =0 ?? No.58725
daveplummermd  2009-03-07 15:15:39 ( ID:rz9rb4bzlt2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have GeForce 9800 GT that does use CUDA under Badaboom. I have set the preferences under "NVIDIA CUDA 2.0" to "Enable", It does see my CUDA card, and I have checked "Use Cuda for filtering"......

but on encoding the CPU=100% and CUDA = 0%
Naturally I want more load to CUDA. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks inadvance

Dave Plummer M.D.

Ararat  2009-03-09 09:55:25 ( ID:.t2yyuxd81h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc doesn't use CUDA for encoding. It only uses CUDA for filtering, and as such, it is only beneficial to turn CUDA on if you are doing a heavily filtered encode (ie, have lots of the filters turned on), otherwise you will see no improvement, or even SLOW DOWN your encoding. As far as I'm aware, the only program that can encode using CUDA at this point is Badaboom, and that's not a real option anyway, as it doesn't support high profile (only simple and main) - at least, last I checked. They will be bringing out a new version with high profile encoding, but I don't know when.

Just to reiterate, if you're looking for CUDA encoding (which you are), you're not going to find it here. At least not for now.

Question - Converting dvr-ms to Mp4 for PS3 playback No.58723
muvinut  2009-02-27 16:19:45 ( ID:2jji9v9ftqr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a few recorded HD (1080i) shows in dvr-ms file format. I would like to convert them so it can be viewed on the PS3. I've tried various mp4 profile settings (AVC, High profile 4.1, 1920x1080) without success, PS3 keep saying it's corrupted. Has anyone successfully done this? What is your setting? I'm currently using TMPGEnc 4 Xpress v4.6.3.268.

Question - "Output file includes invalid characters" Error Message No.58722
rreyes  2009-02-26 21:18:47 ( ID:qhpvmo.rxk2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to encode an HD file and I am using settings that have not changed for months. I just had the PMPGEnc 4.0 reinstalled on a new pc, and I am using the exact same settings on this new pc, but when I get to the Encode Screen and hit the Encode icon, I get the "Output file contains invalid characters" error box. No matter what I do to the output file name, it will not encode the file. Anyone else ever get this error?

Question - H.264 encoded MP4? No.58718
marty baggen  2009-02-25 14:28:45 ( ID:6mlvdxaqx9r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When encoding to an MP4, there is no option for the H.264 codec. Is this a limitation of TMPGEnc?

I have version 4.6.3.268

tkrave  2009-02-25 18:04:44 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Select "MPEG-4 AVC format" when you select MPEG-4 file output. It is the same as h.264.

Question - encoding both with cpu and gpu No.58717
poprock64  2009-02-23 13:55:00 ( ID:0jxmwcf7nom )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi to all. I would just like to add that, besides cuda enabled encoding, it would be nice to have the possibility of encoding video with both cpu and gpu at full speed, without offloading cpu, in order to maximize encoding speed. I wonder if tmpgenc is going toward this mode too.
