Lately I noticed that TMSR 4.2.3.67 has become **extremely** slow (e.g. more than 1 minute to launch, or 40 seconds before anything happens when I click on "new project" !!!! This is Core i7 Q3740 (2.7 GHz) machine !)
Anything I do causes such a delay that makes the app almost unusable !
Last time I used the app a few weeks ago, everything was fine.
I just tried full deinstall / reinstall: no change !!

I also run TVMW5 and TAW5 without any problem !!

Could a recent Windows Update (e.g. a .NET Framework update ?) be the cause of this ?

Please help !

update: while "waiting" for the app to respond to *any* action (Windows "hourglass"), Win Task Manager shows that the TMSR process is the only process eating CPU at that time, around 15% total (4 out of the 8 HT cores show high activity).

On another Win7 system, with a much lesser and older CPU (Core2 Quad), there is no problem !

just to be clear following the previous update: while TSMR works fine on my older system, the problem is still there on my main system, where it is absolutely unusable.

Things are becoming hairy (and t'shooting very timeconsuming):

I tried uninstalling Windows updates to a date somewhat before I first noticed the problem: no change !
I tried deleting the TMSR key & all subkeys ni the registry (LOCAL_USER) before reinstalling TMSR: no change ! (but apparently the license info and possibly other settings are stored elsewhere since when reinstalling TMSR, it did NOT ask for my Licence key at launch).
I tried reverting to 4.2.2.66 : no change !

Then I tried running TMSR from another Win7 user profile on the same machine and...no problem !!!! So the problem source is NOT the hardware or the software on this machine, but some obscure interference with "something" in my main Win7 user profile, but what ??????
I can't remember of any significant change on my desktop environment lately, "process explorer" and "autoruns" utility reveal no problem. Virus scan was completed successfully (Avira Free 14)
My system is pretty well managed, no rogue apps etc.
This system has 2 GPUs, I tried with both the nVidia Quadro K2000M GPU and the Intel HD4000 GPU: no change.
(CUDA is disabled)

I am running out of ideas, please help !

While I can work with TMSR4 without serious problems, I agree that is significantly less responsive and more sluggish than TVMW5 and TAW5. Hope they take care of this.

I don't think so. This is what i'm looking to do two questions down.
You can only delay the highlight from appearing. After that it stays visible until the end of the menu loop.

You can change the aspect ratio in the video settings and also the rotation flag, but I think that's it.

I'm experiencing some audio dropouts on a track. The original source never had any such problems. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I've always known MP2 48000hz to be DVD standard/compliant.
So why is AW5 telling me to convert my audio to Dolby Digital AC3 or LPCM?
MP2 even appears in the AW5 list of codecs to encode to if necessary.
Very strange indeed. Anyone?

I know you can delay the highlight but is there a way to delay the actual buttons?
I have a menu which fades in from black. The highlight comes in at the right time but the buttons are visible throughout the fade in.

There's no delay function like the highlights, but you can add a fade-in effect to buttons.

When I open a .ts file and go into the cut-edit mode, scrolling thru the thumbnails at the bottom is causing extremely heavy hdd-usage.
In fact, the computer cannot be used anymore. Any click or key-hit takes minutes before any response (if any at all).
Sometimes, after 10-15 minutes, I have to kill Video Mastering Works..

This is only with .ts files (tv-broadcasts), not with any other format, like DVD, MP4, MKV.

Also important to know is that the other products of TMPGEnc (Authoring/Smart Renderer) do not have these issues at all: there are no delays when moving back and forth thru the same .ts file.
I would be happy if VMW would perform likewise.

TMPGEnc support cannot reproduce this, they used the same .ts file to check.

Does anybody out there have a clue/suggestion?

Purchase more memory for your computer. I had to do the same years ago when i began video editing and recording from HDTV using a Linux PVR, who records as Transport Stream (TS).
So now i have a AMD Phenom II X4 965 CPU and 32GB DDR3 HyperX RAM, who makes everything run smoothly.

The memory idea is a bad one as its not the issue.

your HDD is limited in its performance, go buy a decent SSD...yes it may cost a bit but you will see a DRASTIC change not only in performance and your editing but you will see a change in rendering when the output is to the ssd.

also change your main drive to an ssd ...effectively come away from hdd as they simply slow any system down

Should be able to use CUDA if you still have the CUDA card in your computer.

In favor of NVENC, nVidia dropped CUDA encoding since the latest set of 340 drivers.

Suggest trying the latest GEForce drivers, which seem to reinstate CUDA support.
Over in the TAW5 forum people were having the same issues, but CUDA is working fine for me with GEForce 344.75.

It seems a lot of you missed the bit where the user states the system hes on is 8 years old. ie its out of date.

with that in mind theres no wonder the cores arent really being used , its an old card and its not the 2gb memory on the gpu that matters.

i would advise saving some money untill you can splash out on a new system you build, with at least a i7 16gb ddr3 memory and at least a gtx 780.

if how ever you have enough money to get a very good system. fork out on a gtx 980. and yes the cores will work effectively.

When one clicks on "launch disc writing tool" right after having created a Blu-ray (folder), and chooses "Create disc image" right away, there is no way to add a custom disc label, the disc label will be set to the current date and there is no way to change that (the disc label field is greyed out). The workaround is to cancel the operation, relaunch the Disc writing tool from the start menu, and add the just created BD folder: the the disc label field is now editable.

Note 1: I haven't tested this workflow with a DVD, only with a Blu-ray (PAL) project.
Note 2: this has been observed on a system not equipped with a blu-ray disc burner (the goal of the above workflow is to create a valid Blu-ray ISO image to be burned on another system later on); I haven't tested this workflow on a system with a Blu-ray burner.

Hi, it would be really useful if the date and time stamp from the video file could be displayed for each clip in the source window so that if you bring in clips from different sources its easier to put them in chronological order.

I have a 24 fps progressive video clip. What will the encoded result be like if I choose "Progressive" instead of "3:2 pulldown" as the Display Mode in the 'Format' section properties? Thanks.
