Bug report - TVMW5 BBS - TS DVB subtitle incorrect display No.67968
Patrick Wong  2013-09-05 19:06:33 ( ID:eytmbpjbhul )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'd like to report when I import a TS video with DVB subtitle (TV program recorded from Hong Kong), the subtitle will not correctly display, it becomes smaller and places on the middle left hand side of the video area. http://goo.gl/S2il1Z
Normally, it should be view like this on the video. http://goo.gl/6feUw2

I have attached a sample TS file http://gdurl.com/cZPJ/download
for your team to study the problem, I hope it will be fixed in your next update release.

Thank you for your attention and look forward to your reply soon.

at  2013-10-26 18:12:37 ( ID:itlqwphjumr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I also have the same problem because the subtitle is in SD resolution and the video is HD resolution in the TS. Usually, modern decoders can read the flag and resize the SD subtitle to full HD size, however, TMPGEnc software fails to resize the subtitle properly. Hope this can be resolved in the next release version.

Sanco  2014-01-12 23:05:53 ( ID:kczjvjkhldl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a different kind of subtitle problem. The subtitle will not display at all or it will display later than it should. Program can skip several lines of text and the all thing is very erratic. I think it started after the last update. My Video Mastering Works version is 5.4.2.103. TV program is recorded in Finland and is broadcasted by YLE which transmits the subtitle stream separetly from the picture. I wouldn't have any problem if the subtitle was "burned" in the picture like commercial TV-stations have. I guess i'm gonna have to downgrade my program until this problem is solved.

Sanco  2014-12-10 05:31:51 ( ID:uehtnqovfg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well as it turned out YLE had the problem with it's subtitles not the program :(

sunsetbay  2015-07-27 16:50:12 ( ID:uekipqb5rqr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have the similar problem as TS. The TV program (.ts stream) I recorded and later edit on TMPGenc with subtitle enable, it will display on the left centre of the video.

Is there any way to place the sub on the bottom~??

Question - TVMW5 BBS - passthrough of AC3 audio from DVD to MKV file No.67957
benoitm  2013-09-02 17:28:54 ( ID:8iw10iswhxl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi

The source is a DVD with AC3 audio.
I want to make a MKV file with the video transcoded to H.264, but "passthrough" stream copy of the AC3 audio.
How can I do that with the TVMW5 tools (the demux tool doesn't seem to allow me to extract the AC3 stream from the DVD source as such) ?
When I attempt to create a MKV encoding job with H.264 video and AC3 audio (with same parameters as the source AC3), it looks like the audio track is transcoded anyway, not simply copied.

Thanks for suggestions ?

Persen  2013-09-02 23:11:48 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need another software if you want to mux the audio directly in to a MKV file with H.264 codec, DVD ripping software.
My sugestion for a very good DVD ripper is DVDFab 9, because it works very fast and creates excelent quality MKV's out of DVD's, well as long the bitrate is practically the same as it is on the DVD.

But if you want to do it the free way and dont care much about file sizes, then there is also the muxing method, where you just direct mux the DVD movie to an MKV file.
There i suggest MKVToolnix. That one works very fast in muxing DVD directly in to MKV.

TVMW5 is a video editor, not a DVD ripper.

benoitm  2013-09-03 00:01:55 ( ID:8iw10iswhxl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I understand TVMW5 is not a DVD ripper, but its wizard does a good job at allowing to transcode from a non-copy-protected DVD; hence my question: when I get as far as being able to transcode the content of such a DVD to MKV (H.264 + AC3) using TVMW5, why can't I just bypass the audio transcoding step and stream copy the AC3 during transcoding (there must be a way ?)...

Question - TMSR4 - Rescue clips - why is it doing it? No.67952
mo rajah  2013-09-01 04:47:32 ( ID:kvoc3lnaxbr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Really hope someone can help me.
I edit a lot of .ts files, recordings off tv.
Some of them are fine and don't need 'rescueing'.

Others do, and I cannot understand why? It means the entire thing needs recoding which takes ages.
When i put the SAME file into Videredo, it works fine and doesn't need to recode the whole thing.

please - why is it doing this?

There are two audio streams, a subtitle text stream and a menu included in the
file you list.

None of my TV captures contain as much information as yours.
TSR4 may not support everything you have in that file.

Compare this file to your successful files and see if any of the files that sucessfully Smart Render also include all of the additional streams, text and menu. You may need to simply strip out some of the extra stuff.

It is also possible that the files you're having problems with were originally
in a different format from the ones you're not having problems with. You never know exactly what transpired when the video clips were transcoded for TV broadcast.

Question - TAW5 BBS - keyframe list offset when converting PAL to NTSC No.67947
benoitm  2013-08-31 18:28:20 ( ID:4rqojs7mk8o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need urgent help on this:
I have a PAL DVD project with many chapter marks (corresponding to menu entries, etc.)
I have to make a NTSC version.
I have already transcoded the video tracks with TVMW5 (using the original 25 fps HD source clips, this would presumably give better visual results than letting TAW5 do the transcoding from the PAL SD clips).
I have exported all chapter marks from the PAL version as keyframe list files.
I then "open with conversion" the project, replace the original clips with the previously encoded NTSC clips, and try to import the keyframe list.
The problem is that all chapter marks are now offset. I guess this is because the keyframe list works based on frame number, not absolute time (and due to 25 fps to 29.97 fps conversion, we have now have a time offset).
Is there a faster way to import the PAL chapter marks into the NTSC version, than moving each of them to the appropriate time code manually ?
Note: if I use the "brute force" method, i.e. when I simply "open & convert" the PAL project (and let TAW5 do the transcoding to NTSC), the chapter marks are OK, but the video quality is lower for the reason explained above. The problem arises only when I replace the PAL clips with previously transcoded NTSC clips in the project.

Persen  2013-09-01 04:23:53 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Its natural that you get a time offset on the chapter marks, there is a speed difference of 4% between PAL and NTSC.
This requires that you have to change all the chapter marks also, manually that is due to the speed difference.

It does not matter if you use TAW5 or another similar tool, you are required to do so in every DVD/Blu-ray authering software, when you want to change the image format from PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL in a already existing project.

George  2013-09-12 20:08:14 ( ID:qoo3ig.rvaj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Didn't MW5 maintain the chapter marks after the transcoding process? You try transcoding again with MW5 or another application, using a fast, low-quality preset (DIVX for example), setting the option to keep the chapter marks. Then, you can export/import those into your DVD project.

benoitm  2015-09-28 22:30:08 ( ID:3.ya.wwsstg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

FWIW, I have found an acceptable workaround as follows:
In the PAL project, export the KF list (it's a simple CR-LF limited text file)
Convert the keyframe list using the formula KF.NTSC = KF.PAL*29.97/25, using your favourite spreadsheet program. Export the result as text file with .keyframe extension.
Create or convert the NTSC project, and import this new .keyframe file.
Voilà :)

Question - TVMW5 BBS - TAW 5.1.2.56 was CRAP ! No.67943
buying betatester  2013-08-30 16:25:02 ( ID:mo5xna8brc2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Since your last update to 5.1.2.56 TAW is not the same, as it was !

some details, that i have found:

1. "source"-> i can not more go up/down with arrow-keys to select a track (i work as much as i can with keyboard).
2. for example DVB-S records show silly Gigabyte-counts below in "estimated size", for example: a 1 Gb file is shown as 296 Mb !!! I cant use anymore this diagram, because i dont know: is the authored DVD now full or not ?
3. if i set "normalize" in the "cut & chapter editor" -> "audio filters settings"-> ok-> ok, the settings in track-> audio are resetted to the standard !
4. if rendering is ready and i want to burn, the 4,5 GB diagram changes for some bytes less, if i change between the identical 2 LG-burners(same actual firmware) and the same DVD-R, whats this ?

and a wish: i WANT to import and author DTS-soundfiles !!!

i (and maybe some other angry buyers) wait for your technical support-answers,
or better: the soon next update with all the fixes to this fails and wishes.

------------
My answer:
DVB recordings should not be used directly in any video editors, before they have been checked and eventually repaired with a tool such as VideoReDo TVSuite Version 4.
Recording errors can easely happen due to DVB signal errors, which causes video editors not being able to read and determine the recordings correctly.
VideoReDo TVSuite Version 4 can repair all these errors, so the recordings becomes 100% error free and fully usable in any video editor you desire to use.

VideoReDo TVSuite Version 4 is not freeware, but a must have tool for every one who has a digital reciever with PVR option and want to edit and save their recordings for the future on another media.

Reggarding your DTS request, scroll down and find my Freetalk subject about FFDSHOW and Haali, which explains how to get support for standard DTS from DVD and MKV movies.
The DTS on Blu-ray discs, called DTS-HD Master will not be supported.

buying betatester  2013-09-01 16:38:07 ( ID:walfbsocval )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank you for your answers, Persen.
but:
i use after DVB-S recordings the freeware-tool PVASTrumento.
so the files are eventually repaired (i have near 100% station receiving), thats not the thing.
the thing is: before the update the diagram worked, after the update not.
so its definetly a question about the update, not my recordings !
and i mean as i said: i want to author DTS(HD)-files, which are since bluray more and more on the way. and its a standard for music. so, where IS the DTS(HD)-import and authoring ? - nevermind....

new question: how to deactivate in taw 5.1.1.55 the news center, that starts everytime i start TAW5 ?

i want an update with all the fixings !!!
- thats the only answer !

Persen  2013-09-01 20:24:06 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have checked out that PVASTrumento that you use to see what it is and what functions it has.
From what i have read on videohelp.com and afterdawn.com , then it is an old MPEG2 tool, it has not been updated since March 2009 and has no full MPEG4 support, which is a huge problem, since all HD signals today are in MPEG4 and therefor requires tools that has full MPEG4 support.
PVASTrumento might be able to open them, but when reading and outputting files, it is forced to ignore possible MPEG4 errors, due to the lack of full support. That means that you end up with files who contain errors that has been ignored, but then is revealed when trying to open them in softwares such as TAW5 and TVMW5.
I hate to say this, but you have to spend money on a propper updated DVB software, such as VideoReDo TVSuite Version 4, but then you also get free updates for the rest of your life.

But to get the support of DTS-HD Master, you are required to invest in Blu-ray ripping software. I use DVDFab 9 for such work, where the full version comes with several ripping and converting options.
When you in its settings set it to have support for HD audio, then you can convert DTS-HD Master to standard DTS or Dolby Digital, but since you don't have output as DTS in any of Pegasys's software, you might as well just convert the audio directly to Dolby Digital.

Turning off the loading of the News center. When it loads, choose Settings and remove mark at Connect to server at application start-up, choose OK to the warning and after that Apply.
That usually does the trick.

buying betatester  2013-09-04 15:45:09 ( ID:walfbsocval )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK, i had read and understand your message.
but WHY TAW 5.1.1.55 working like a flow and the update to 5.1.2.56 NOT ???
the only reason can be the update !
because my system and my work doesn't change.
and THANKS for the disable-tip of the news center, so this problem solved.
but every time i start TAW 5.1.1.55 (i cant work fluidly with the update) i get a message window "A newer version (5.1.2.56) is available!" - view download page - close.
how i can disable this window ? i dont mean the message center.

Bug report - TAW5 BBS - Projected Project Size No.67928
The Jazzman  2013-08-25 04:56:25 ( ID:s7kdofhndga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just to flag up that after the latest update that the projected project size counter is totally off.

Currently sitting on a 90 min 1080p lpcm project, being reported as not even being 2Mb!!!!

dalegfloyd@gmail.com  2013-09-07 07:12:00 ( ID:fypthrsfspo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am having similar problems. When I set a custom size for the BD output, it may or may not work. I use AVCHD and when it doesn't work the output is drastically smaller than requested. For example, I request a size of 8000 MB so it will fit on a double layer DVD, I get about 4500. If I change the request size to 14000, then I get about what I want (around 7500). Because it is so unpredictable, it is completely maddening. And I haven't found any way to set the bitrate manually to get any consistency.

Question - TAW5 BBS - Path No.67925
GuyD  2013-08-23 08:05:53 ( ID:h6dz4hf4fj2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a folder containing videos and photos and I created a taw5 project which I saved in the same folder.

It turns out that if I rename or move this folder, my taw5 project (which is still in the same folder as its files) can no longer find its files.

Is there a way to fix this?

What if I buy a new computer down the road, do I have to copy those files on the new hard drive with the same letter (ie: G: or whatever) and have the same tree structure? I'm just giving the scenerio that I may want to bring modifications to the project.

Thanks again for any and all help on this.

tkrave  2013-08-27 08:22:33 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Basically, the source files have to be in the same location for TAW5 to find it.
The project file can be anywhere.

After renaming the folder and loading the project, does it ask you to locate the missing files? I recall that when it can't find the file, it allows you to search for the current location. This is one way to update the location of the source files.

George  2013-09-12 20:10:20 ( ID:qoo3ig.rvaj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What tkrave said is correct. You should have the "Browse..." button and be able to locate your files easily. It shouldn't be an issue with photos and single video files. However, if a project uses the DVD/BD/TS reader, there is no Browse button and things get tough. This should be fixed.

Question - TAW5 BBS - Post-output process - grayed out No.67923
GuyD  2013-08-23 03:11:52 ( ID:h6dz4hf4fj2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I created a 16x9 HD project, and TMPGEnc outputs the project into an AVCHD folder which contains the BDMV folder which in turns contains index and movieobj files and other folders.

But the Post-output process checkbox is grayed out, and I can't tell it to write to DVD/BD after outputting.

I tried using the disk writing tool. I selected the Blu-ray drive, but I'm not sure what file to select, and if I select the BDMV folder it says: "You have selected a folder containing a AVCHD file structure but it is not for DVD. The folder addition cannot continue."

I just installed an ASUS BW-16D1HT Blu-ray writer and inserted a BD-R disc.

Any and all help appreciated.

GuyD  2013-08-23 05:30:35 ( ID:h6dz4hf4fj2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok, I think I know what I did. In the Start window, I selected AVCHD as the Output Format selector. Now I have to figure out if I can change this without re-starting the project!

Persen  2013-09-01 04:49:01 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Download and install ImgBurn and use that one for burning instead, its freeware.
There you just choose to burn folders to a disc and then drag and drop the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folder to its main window.

Now set the propper burning speed, me surgesting no more than 4x for safety reasons, just to prevent burning errors on these expensive BD-R discs and then burn the disc.
It might tell you that it has detected a BDMV folder and that this usually means that its Blu-ray video and some settings has to be changed and it can do this for you, in that case you just choose that it is OK that it changes the settings for you.

I have always used ImgBurn for burning the DVD and Blu-ray authored projects i have created with TAW5 and it works every time.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Best Settings For Converting Home Movies to mp4 (web) No.67920
Kevin M  2013-08-22 04:14:26 ( ID:xxfs4apw1/n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to convert some home movie clips to mp4 for web use (and mobile devices), namely Facebook.

The source files are either old sd quality, pal,4:3, 720x576i (DVD compliant)

or

recent AVCHD camcorder footage:- 1920x1080i pal.

I came across this guide for mp4/web settings...

http://www.videoproductions.com.au/html/mpeg4.html

It says keep interlace setting if source is interlaced (which they are), but I would have thought progressive would be more suited for web? or is it de-interlaced elsewhere?

Are these settings any good? I would like the best possible settings maintaing the orig resolution.

Many Thanks

tkrave  2013-08-22 08:39:56 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Step 1 in that tutorial is talking about the settings for the source file, so yes, if your source is interlaced, keep it as interlaced in the clip settings.

Encoding it as progressive happens later, in the filters or in the encoder settings (as seen in step 5).

I don't think there is any harm in encoding it as progressive. I do that myself with HD videos I upload to YouTube in order to get the 1080p display option.

Question - TAW5 BBS - Cool Bullets in main menu No.67911
GuyD  2013-08-17 09:51:15 ( ID:h6dz4hf4fj2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My main menu has 3 text links: Videos, Photos, About. I don't like the type of highlights that I have seen so far, so here's what I did.

I set the background black, I re-named the 3 links to the greater-than sign character (looks like an arrow), I set them black and made the Highlight Color white. Then I added my own text next to the greater-than signs.

Now it looks like cool white arrows appearing next to the selected items. Unfortunately, my background must be a solid color, and not an image. Is there an option to have bullets appearing next to the selected links?

Not with this software. You have to throw at least $1000 more on the table and buy a professional software, like the ones that the movie industry uses to create their DVD and Blu-ray menus.

But there is perhaps a way you can pull it off any way. You create a image with solid color background and bullets in a photo studio like Adobe Photo Shop or Corel Paint Shop Pro and use that created image as a background in TAW5.
Then its just about placing the bullets at the correct place on the image when creating it in the image studio that you choose to use.
You could make the image size at 1920x1080 uncompressed JPG to give it a propper image quality.
