Bug report - TE25 - DIVX conversion to MPG1 large files bitrate calc wrong No.39454
PatO  2003-10-13 16:44:25 ( ID:mgbs7/tpnb2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Saw my problem on another board posted in June but no replies at

http://forums.3ivx.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=9&topic=398

Don't find it posted yet on this BBS.

I'm using TMPGEnc 2.521. I've tried older versions with the same result. I'm using the DivX 5.1 codec. I've tried 5.05 and 4.12 with the same result (uninstalling all codecs but the one being tested).

Initially TMPGEnc reported my 85 min movie was 235 minutes, but after promoting Directshow to priority 1 under Environmental Settings this problem went away.

Problem: I am starting with the base VCD encoding settings and then altering the video and audio bitrates to make an 85 minute movie fit on one VCD. No matter what I change the bitrates to, the MPG1 file created is nearly 900 MB versus the 700 MB that the calculator determines. The original movie is a DivX AVI.

Ideas, anyone else seen this?

ashy  2003-10-14 01:07:27 ( ID:ff/8b2repwj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to make sure the stream setting is set to 'MPEG1 VCD(non standard)' when using a non standard VCD bitrate or padding will be added to the file.

If you have already encoded the movie then run it through the 'simple multiplexer'. This will remove the padding and reduce the file size.

Oh...and by the way, this is NOT a bug, this is YOUR error, so next time post as a question until you have verified it is indeed a real bug.

PatO  2003-10-14 02:06:30 ( ID:mgbs7/tpnb2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I erroneously posted as a bug, thanks for the GENTLE hint, A$$. :)

Will try your kind suggestions.

PatO  2003-10-14 02:30:38 ( ID:mgbs7/tpnb2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That was it - although I had been setting the bit rates manually, still needed to go one more tab and set the system stream to non-standard as well. Thanks for the help.

Mod - please set this to a "Question". Apologies for bad posting, I have flagellated myself accordingly.

ashy  2003-10-14 17:39:05 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok don't get sarcy and cut out the language 'A$$'. You may need more help in the future and you won't get it with that attitude.
It just gets a tad annoying when people who don't know how to use TMPG properly post their problems as bugs and makes it harder for the author to correct real problems not just user errors.

Question - TE25 - Horizontally stretched picture after converting AVI to SVCD format No.39452
EJ  2003-10-13 12:21:37 ( ID:xrbkzmsw58l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I'm editing my home video's, using Pinnacle Studio 8. For Quality reasons I make an AVI file from Pinnacle, which I then want to encode to SVCD format, using TMPEGenc, after which I burn the SVCD using Nero. After doing this the picture (that is fine as a AVI file) is horizontally streched. Any tips on how to avoid this or otherwise on other ways of improving the result in SVCD format after editing my video's using Pinnacle?

Thanks.

ashy  2003-10-13 17:39:23 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just make sure you select the correct input aspect ratio before encoding and select 'Full screen (keep aspect ratio) as the arrange method.

Bug report - TE25 - Now it takes directly permanets subtitles? No.39451
Holanda  2003-10-13 05:25:56 ( ID:bdm9z3ueh06 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have installed VobSub 2.3, and have seen that when avi with its subtitles in the same directory and with the same name, TMPGenc obtains the subtitles directly.
It is a new possibility of TMPGEnc if I have installed VobSub?
Before VirtualDub like frameserver or a project of avisynth used, but now it is much more easy.

Hello guys, has anyone been able to copy the new lion king dvd (2 disc special edition)? i ripped the files like i normally do with smart ripper. Then tried to process it with dvd2one, but it gave the message about copy the dvd to harddrive so as to decypt it first. it's like i am trying to process straight from a dvd disc. anyone know whats going on?

Minion  2003-10-13 02:32:02 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well It might not be the DVD But DVD2One...One way to tell if the Vob files are Properly decrypted is no try to load one of the Vob files into DVD2AVI or Tmpgenc and see it you can see a Picture, if you can see a picture then the Problem is with DVD2One....

Question - TE25 - Widescreen Help 2 No.39439
Sakuya  2003-10-12 20:33:01 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, last time I had a similar problem with this and Ashy and B_Racer helped me. Just wondering how you got the correct aspect ratio? My current size is 704x396. I normally encode non-widescreen using these overscan techniques:

Output size: 480x480
Video Arrange Method: Custom Center (420x420)

If Ashy could help me again, I really would appreciate it! Thanks.

Sakuya  2003-10-12 21:13:37 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Also, the FPS is 23.976. Should I encode it to the same or 29.97...?

Sakuya  2003-10-13 04:42:35 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Um...I guess I forgot to state what I am trying to do. I am trying to convert an AVI to MPEG and to maintain the widescreen without anything going off the sides of the TV.

B_Racer  2003-10-13 10:39:32 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Again, the Guy with the strange Formats... ;)

OK, you have a NTSC-Video. It looks like it is encodet at 1:1 PAR. If this is true, the PAR is 1:1, the AR 1.7778:1 which means 16:9.

I suggest to resize directly to 480x368 and letterbox to 480x480. This gives you an AR of 1.7832:1.

An other Way ist to resize to 448x344 and letterbox to 480x480. This results in an AR of 1.7804:1 and prevents a lot of Video to be putted into the Overscan-Area of the TV.

But there might be a Problem: There is a small posibility that the Video has the AR of 1.82:1. Maybe wrong resized from 1.85:1.

So try to resize a small part to 480x360. I don't think that that's the right way to resize it, but give it a try to be sure.

>Also, the FPS is 23.976. Should I encode it to the same or 29.97...?

Encode it with 23.976! After encoding use the Tool PullDown.exe to set the Pulldown-Flag correctly.

Sakuya  2003-10-13 21:03:17 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used 448x344. How do I know which size is the right one? And where is pulldown.exe located? Is it another program? How do I set the correct flag?

Sakuya  2003-10-14 02:23:14 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

After I converted the MPEG (at 23.976fps) and viewed, the audio was hacky. I didn't know how or where to do the pulldown. :(

Minion  2003-10-14 03:19:11 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You just need to download "DoPulldown" or "Pulldown.exe" and encode your File as a 23.97fps Mpeg file, then you will Probably have to de-mux the Mpeg file then load the Video file into Pulldown.exe or DoPulldown and set the Pulldown Flag and the Frame rate to 29.97fps and then let it do it"s thing and then you Just Mux the audio and the New Video file back together and everything should be A OK.....cheers

Question - TE25 - Picture To big No.39435
hpfan2020  2003-10-12 15:25:12 ( ID:iodozdmqjz2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I converted the avi file to mpeg the right way this time, burned it to cd played it on my DVD plaver but the picture seems to big for the tv, I think its called aver scan. Does the option keep aspect ratio help????

ashy  2003-10-12 16:14:35 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What do you mean, too big.
Is it just the sides which seem to be cut off or is the image distorted.

hpfan2020  2003-10-12 16:24:49 ( ID:iodozdmqjz2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Sides, and the top and bottom are cut off, so I cant see the subtitle.

B_Racer  2003-10-13 08:41:18 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That's normal. Any TV has an Area called Overscan which is not visible.
If you have an AVI with Subtitles which are to close to the edges of the Video, you will not see the Subs or see them partialy.
All you can do is to shrink the Picturesize of the Video and fill it with black Borders. As an Example:

Resize to 336x544 instead of 352x576 in PAL Half-D1. FitCD or Fit2Disc is a good Tool for calculating the correct Overscan-Proof Resizing.

Question - TE25 - mpeg2 encoding No.39433
wildbill  2003-10-12 11:46:09 ( ID:rqghnp3u6ul )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi, i have recently started to encode dvd movies from avi files. the problem is when i encode the avi (using cce sorry tmpgenc) i am left with a mpv file so then i try and put the file into tmpgenc dvd author but i get an error message saying the frame rate is 23.976 which is illegal for a dvd. then i put the mpv file into dopulldown which sorts out the frame rate changing it from 23.976 fps to 29.976, but then when i load the file into tmpgenc dvd author the gop sequence is to long. please help

also tried using avirate but this makes audio and video out of sinc.

minion ashy help.

ashy  2003-10-12 14:14:14 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think your problem is that you have used Dopullown as this won't affect the GOP length.

First you must make sure that the source is progressive and you encode the MPEG as progressive by checking the options under the 'Quality' tab for 'Progressive frame flag' and 'Zig zag' scanning order. Also ensure you checked the option for 'DVD video compliance' in the Video tab under 'Advanced' controls. This should ensure all GOPs are 15 frames and under.

Question - TE25 - Size of frame No.39429
imstl  2003-10-12 05:58:48 ( ID:x3/fon87r6f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The size of each VCD frame is 352x288 pixels. Is it OK for viewing on 29'TV or the size of each frame have be biger?

ashy  2003-10-12 14:18:32 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What's the size of your TV got to do with it?
353x288 is the size of the video frames and has nothing to do with how big your TV screen is and will fit any 4:3 TV perfectly whether it be a tiny portable TV or a huge projector TV.

Question - TE25 - Distorted audio on a AVI to MPEG2 encoding No.39427
LucManc  2003-10-12 02:13:10 ( ID:wbf0gisqcpn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello!
I've heard the audio of an AVI file which I want to encode with the audio section of the settings of TMPGEnc and it played pretty good (certainly before and after the 17th minute), also the video preview is ok, but the encoded MPEG2 file (VBR CQ) played ok for only about 17 minutes and then the video is still ok but the audio begin to be heavenly distorted and out of sync.
The source AVI file plays the audio correctly all along before and after the 17th minute even on Windows Media Player...
Anyone knows why and how to solve this problem?

Many thanks for the help.

ashy  2003-10-12 14:21:08 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Extract the audio to wav file first with something like Virtualdub or AVImux04 then use that as your audio source.
