Hi I Dl an eval Copy. I do video editing on a MAC but was told this MPEG2 converter was much better on my PC. My Question is how do you encode the MP2 in DVD NTSC without the audio? I need to keep them sepatate to import into DVD studio pro on MAc I can check off video only but it seems only in mpeg1 mode Thanks wizrdman

Techno I have downloaded part of the file from the link ftp://ftp.imbetterthanyou.com/pub/incoming/techno/lb-my_way.mpg

I must say I was unfortunately unimpressed by the quality and was expecting better. Of the 15mb which I downloaded, there is low evidence of macroblocks, but I think this is due to the fact that the image is blurred and has extreme loss of detail. There is also some evidence of A/V sync problems and low sound quality.

You may have better and I would expect better from MPEG2.
Below is a link to a 30 sec clip of American Pie2 I have converted to Mpeg2 SVCD.
Even though this MPEG2 file is of much higher quality, without macroblocks than your MPEG2 and has the same audio bitrate, the 30 second clip is actually smaller in file size than a 30 sec clip of the one I have downloaded from you.
Incidentally this movie is 1hr 46 mins and easily fits on to two 80 mins Cd's as do all the movies I create.

If anyone would care to look here is the link.

Give me your opinion.

ASHY, excuse me...

I don't think the MPEG2 filters u r using a giving u the CORRECT quality, there are no a/v synch issues, been tested by myself on 5 machines, and 54 people in America and say it is great.

I hope you are not trying to start up something.

THIS STUFF IS CAPTURED!!!!!!!!!!! VERY HARD TO ACHEIVE GOOD QUALITY.

Techno  Home )  2002-04-08 16:24:16 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

1) Use the correct Filters
2) it is not blocky
3) it is not blurry

I can confirm this.

DVDGUY also says it is really good, from a captured source.

My friends can also confirm this.

Please ASHY, no fights, just good "pals" if you like.

Please let me know when u get the correct filters.

Techno

Ashy  2002-04-08 16:29:00 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The filters I happen to be using are WinDVD filters. So nothing wrong there. Capture or not I still think it's poor quality and there is slight A/V desync. I did say you probably had better. Why don't you upload a small clip of a DVD rip. I'd like to see your work on this. But it must be similar in size to mine.

I will be posting some new links to the above file as the that link obviously doesn't work.

For Win NT/9X check in 'Control Panel', 'System', 'Environment', 'User Variables for administrator' TEMP and TMP is set to existing directory.

Hi,
Try this: Go in your Windows Explorer. Create a file named Tmpgenc in Programs Files. Go back in your Unzip program where Tmpgenc was unzipped. Select Extract. Choose to extract in C:/Program files/Tempgenc. Then start Tempgenc from the Explorer. And Bob is your uncle.

william_smart234sf  2002-04-28 23:56:50 ( ID:g3hp4qqlhlr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had this problem until I reduced the audio bitrate in tempeng from 324 (or whatever the default they have for mpeg2) to 128. I found this out by hacking it to accept a file. Then when the sound went loud, it garbled, amking it sound like the bitrate was too high for the program to handle.

Now I ma having a weird error from DVDit fro files encoded by tempeng. It says video picture size larger than buffer. Anyone know why?

Question - TE25 - Problem Audio converting from AVI No.18388
Mark Johnson  2002-04-08 13:20:57 ( ID:duhjzypvzgm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've created an AVI in virtual dub, using audio of 44.1KHz and video size of 352*288 (PAL VCD format). When I play back the AVI the sound seems fine. When I convert to MPG1 for VCD using TMPG the sound becomes really load and peaks a lot of the time when played back.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Techno  Home )  2002-04-08 16:26:01 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if it is a DIVX 5 avi then TMPGENC is not compatible with it.

uninstall DIVX 5
download and install DIVX v4.11 or 4.12 (http://www.divx-digest.com/software)

encode

all should be well

Question - TE25 - SVCD-Video-Bitrate No.18380
Matten  2002-04-08 12:48:40 ( ID:fm7/8nvgein )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi at all.

What is the correct max. Bitrate for Standard-SVCD to use at VBR/CBR (if it makes any difference)?
Some says 2520, others says 2376 kbit/s for the Video-Bitstream.
The Audio-Bitstream is at 224 kbit/s.

Techno  Home )  2002-04-08 13:00:27 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The more bitrate, the better quality in theary.

But what is the right bitrate for standard?

There are so many info you can search!

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-08 17:13:57 ( ID:a1gdtat1r4r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just stick to the standard MFC files that are in tmpgenc to use.

That bitrate is probably is most lightly to be the correct one.

Question - TE25 - Getting crackles in audio after multilexing mpeg & wav No.18374

Hi
After multiplexing an mpeg video file and a .wav audio file i get very loud
crackles (or "dropouts) in audio. The .wav audio itself is ok (when you play it with cooledit or winamp). Any suggestions ?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-08 10:36:36 ( ID:gye7n0apz7c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you tried to extract the wav in virtualdub?

Techno

blairwitch007  2002-04-08 11:11:00 ( ID:uhtidw/guu. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why should i extract the wav ind VDub ? Remember: i multiplexed an mpeg & a wav file to a new mpeg1 file (btw: its a music video). I think its a problem with TMPGenc.

Any body have performce of dual cpu ?

Peter Guhziner  2002-04-09 00:12:23 ( ID:zv9jeshjrpk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've been running TMPGEnc on two machines:

Win98, 256 RAM, Celeron 700 (Asus mobo)

...and

WINNT Server4, 128 RAM, dual Celeron 533's (Abit mobo)

Though I've never benched marked them or run the same file on both machines to gauge them identically, I think the NT box is a good bit faster with similar file sizes.

Question - TE25 - CUT FILE WITH TEMPGENC while encoding No.18370
STEPHANE  2002-04-08 09:08:12 ( ID:0.w8ft4wfml )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use DVDx + avysinth plugin + tempgenc plus
Today i cut my video files with MPEG Tools. But i d like to know if it s possible to obtain, as Dvdx, severals video files which cut while encoding.

Thanks for yr answer

sherlock  2002-04-08 20:48:08 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

what you can do is use the "source range"and you don"t have to cut your movies, you can set it so you encode the first half and then encode the second half, but cutting while encodeing with tmpgenc is imposible.....

Question - TE25 - Audio has high freq. sharp metal sound after conversion No.18360
NoPlayBack  2002-04-08 06:48:47 ( ID:ytzsl1mvbdw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

After conversion from an DV-AVI (32khz-sound) to MPEG with standard VCD or SVCD setting the audio is a little bit distorted. It sometimes has a high frequency sharp metal sound in it when played on a DVD-Player. I think it comes from the conversion 32kHz to 44.1 kHz.

I did also try to seperate the sound into an extra 44.1kHz-wav-file with Virtualdub and used that as input to TMPGEnc... same result.

Does anybody have an idea how to fix that???

Techno  Home )  2002-04-08 08:05:51 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

well, you CANNOT improve the original audio source, if it is 32KHz, it will be 32KHz regardless of the change of the freq.

Next time, capture @ 44100Hz!

Techno

adv_h67  2002-04-08 11:40:04 ( ID:n7xx7gvsr2w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can try to resample it using SSRC (Shibatch Sample Rate Converter).
Search with Google. It offers a freeware good quality conversion.TmpegEnc can include it as external resample program.

Ashy  2002-04-08 11:44:04 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used to get the same problem you are having. It used to happen on some of my VCD's. It sounds sort of like a metalized, robotic sound at high frequencies.
Your right it is the sample rate conversion from 32khz to 44.1khz. I found out this was due to the sample rate converter of TMPG not being to good.

Virtual dub can fix it, but this time use your original DV-AVI and make sure that you tick the 'High quality' box when you change the sample rate from 32 to 44.1 in the conversion options.
This should sort your problem.

Let me know how u go.

ASHY

NoPlayBack  2002-04-08 13:39:58 ( ID:ytzsl1mvbdw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Techno: I do not want to improve. The 32khz-original-dv-avi-file is ok. The problem is only after converting to 44.1khz.
To all: Thanks for suggestions, i will try the two tips... converting with high quality and also using the shibatch-tool.
I will let you know...

Keping  2002-04-08 16:25:41 ( ID:z7f0prq61xn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you capture DV from 1394 port, the audio rate is fixed at 32 KHz. I can not change the rate. Can you change it?

NoPlayBack  2002-04-09 08:59:53 ( ID:ytzsl1mvbdw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ashy: Great tip. With using the "High Quality" checkbox the sound is much better.

adv_h67: I did find the tool, but did not test it. Do i need to tell TMPGEnc some parameters when including that tool?

keeping: I am not sure. I think i can set my cam to two different recording-settings... and i think i also have the possibility to receive that via firewire... but i am not sure.

adv_h67  2002-04-09 12:31:29 ( ID:n7xx7gvsr2w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TmpegEnc does not need any extra parameters for using SSRC. You only need to specify the path where it is.
