I've read to thrugh the BBS and saw that i had to raise the priority of 'AVI VFW compatibility reader' , stil i get the same message only it takes a lot longer to display it , so there is something happening. please help me .

One piece of advice is to ignore "chumps" who give useless advise, and are so clever, that they can't get XP to work!! Hang on in there buddy and hope for a reply from Ashy or Minion. They'll have something usefull to say.

foxx  2002-07-01 18:10:52 ( ID:ujv2ebjxawc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i had the same problem and minion left me a message follow these instuctions and you should work ok

"minion message"
You are probably getting a "cannot open or unsupported format" Error when you try to load your file, to Fix it , go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "vfapi plugins" then raise the "direct show file reader" to "2" by right clicking it and selecting raise priority, this should get you file loaded..

thanx foxx for the help but it didn't solve the problem :raised 'direct show' to 2 ,restarted the program but i still get that error. That is the odd thing about it because i've read it already in the forum and tried it without succes.
Any other ideas ? Ow help ...

Minion  2002-07-01 19:31:14 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well I guess if you tried all the usual tricks then I don"t know what could be wrong, but You can try to capture to a different avi format ,one that is more compatible with tmpgenc(mjpeg usually works)like a "VFW" format or a type2 dv format, or you can try to frames serve the mjpeg to tmpgenc with virtual dub, but becides this I don"t have a clue what is going wrong ,maybe Ashy has a clue......

Woutman  2002-07-01 19:51:07 ( ID:lilcnhjltvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The dc10+ captures only in mjpeg. But what do you mean with "frame serve" ?

Woutman  2002-07-01 20:14:05 ( ID:lilcnhjltvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Something else : the other strange thing is that when i raise the 'direct show file reader'to 2 and try to reload the mjpeg avi from the dc10+ , something is hapening , the program doesn't respond and my harddrive sows action for about 10 seconds or more. this doen't occur when i prioritise something else , then the warning ( ..., unsupported) pops up instantly.
Mayby a bug ?

Videopimp.com  Home )  2002-07-01 22:31:48 ( ID:bc9evnvf.8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

have you already tried using an uncompressed codec?

or if you need to use compressed, try the YU9V or Huffy codec
i know TMPGenc supports those easily

if you dont see a way to capture using other codecs and it only lets you choose that MJPEG one, go to www.vcdhelp.com and download the Huffy codec on their tools page

or go here: http://www.math.berkeley.edu/~benrg/huffyuv.html

and guys honestly, from personal experience with this card and OS
i strongly urge you to not use XP, you will have even more compatibility problems down the road. Win2K works with it all superbly!

Minion  2002-07-02 05:56:23 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you can get your file loaded into "virtual dud" then virtual dub can frame serve the file to tmpgenc(frame serveing is sort of like fooling tmpgenc into thinking the file is of a supported format) go to www.virtualdub.com and read up on it, but if there is any way to capture to a different codec or to un-compressed avi files then that would be the best bet, I wouldn"t trust a product that only lets you use one format to capture to cuz if the only product that can decode it might be another one of There products...but here is a last ditch attempt to help out, do you have the proper codec to decode the mjpeg file cuz with out it tmpgenc can"t read the file......

Woutman  2002-07-02 08:35:53 ( ID:lilcnhjltvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've downloaded 'TMPGEnc-2.56.39.143-Free-VFP.zip' and installed it correctly but that didn't help. I've also tried file-servering but then i have interlacing problems : in a movie frame you see also the frame from before displaced . Dou think that with win2002 it all works ? capture in mjpegs and load it directly in TMPGEncwithout any problems ?

ASHY  2002-07-02 14:30:06 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Disable the Directshow plugin and increase the priority of the VFW plugin to 2.
If that doesn't work try installing another MJPEG codec. The Virtualdub site has links to other vendors MJPEG codecs.

ASHY  2002-07-02 15:19:32 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have just done some checking and according to the info the Morgan MJPEG codec can decode DC10+ files which should work with TMPG.

may i ask Woutman, why are you so fixed on using the MJPEG codec?
There are better codecs out there

and when/if you have interlacing problems you can overcome them in TMPGenc Settings in the Advanced tab

select non-interlaced as your source then double click Interlacing in the bottom section and choose one that best suits what you are doing, you can see the preview when you choose

ASHY  2002-07-02 19:18:35 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are correct the interlacing problems could be corrected with TMPG and are probably due also to the wrong field order being selected.
Does your card not allow you to select a progressive output rather than an interlaced one?

Question - TE25 - frameserver incompatibility? No.24216
Mike Kamermans  Home )  2002-07-01 13:22:33 ( ID:7tcssbljxno )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I read a few guides on frameserving files to tmpgenc, and they all said to fire up virtualdub, start a frameserver, save to outfile.vdr, and then load the outfile.vdr as video source in tmpgenc. However this does not work for me, tmpgenc says it's an unsupported format...

what could I be doing wrong here?

- Mike

ASHY  2002-07-01 15:44:26 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to install the frameserver client first. Read the virtualdub help files. It will tell you how to install the frameserver client.

After I have cinverted a movie in AVI formate to MPEG there is no sound in the new file Need help!

Minion  2002-07-01 10:05:31 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your avi file probably has an unsupported audio format, you need to extract the audio from your avi file with "virtualdub" to a Wav file and use that as your audio source...

Question - TE25 - Can someone tell me if they have this problem No.24212
Confused  2002-07-01 07:18:40 ( ID:ogfxy10qu0o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Basically these are my problem,
1.) Tmpgenc seems to hang during an encoding session(the file is only 48mins long in play time.) It hangs when it reaches the halfway mark sometimes.

2.) If above doesn't happen then sometimes Tmpgenc will reboot my system when I am encoding a big file(600-680 megs)

3.) I encoded 3 mpeg files using Tmpgenc. All three files are fine and working
I merge all 3 files in to one giant mpeg file. The mpeg file is fine.
I try to split the file into 2 files so one half fits on one cd and the other half on another cd. The first split comes out fine but when i go for the second
split tmpgenc freezes totally. Even after a complete reboot this happens. I try
moving the entire mpeg file to a new drive, same thing happens, I move tmpgenc to another drive, same thing happens.

My machine:
Win98 second edition (unpatched due to reinstall)
128 rdam
Ati all in wonder radeon 32ddr
sound blaster live 5.1
P4 1.7 gig
60 gig maxtor hard drive partitioned into 5 drives (all
vob + mpeg files are stored on a 15 gig drive). The entire drive has recently been reformatted
8x cd burner
16x dvd player

Because of this problem I even tried the following:

Most of anything in my startup is closed prior to encoding
icons in my systray are removed prior to encoding
My virtual memory is set to my entire C drive which is 1.4 gigs.

Same things happen.

The only time that the hanging+rebooting during encoding does not happen is when i encode files that are only 27mins to 35 mins long in play time.

Can someone give me a clue as why this is happening? Has anyone seen these symptoms before? Thanks for any help

Minion  2002-07-01 10:04:08 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try raiseing your "Virtual Memory", and for the merge and cut use something else to edit your mpeg file cuz the ones in tmpgenc suck most of the times....

Any suggestions?

** if someone knoes ( i m using final cut pro 3 on my mac ) can i export a MOV and encode it using TMPGENC to mpg?

Thanks!
Darence

Minion  2002-07-01 10:02:12 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try burning the mpeg as a non-standard vcd..and if that don"t work then don"t use Poiner, samsung or philips.....

ASHY  2002-07-01 15:53:57 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would guess that you burned the VCD at a speed higher than 4x. A lot of players will have problems reading VCD's burned at this speed as VCD's don't burn to good at high speed. Try reducing your burn speed to 4x.

Yes, use Bink and Smack fro Radtools http://www.radgametools.com/

Export to AVI and TMPGEnc does the rest.

NB, some MOV files have locked audio which can't be extracted.

Bug report - TE25 - Unable to Read AVI File No.24206
saberman  2002-07-01 05:28:37 ( ID:mg1yljv4jlw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded and installed TMPGEnc 2.56.39.143. I then tried to use an AVI as the video and audio source. The error message was "can not open or unsupported".

The file was created with a Cannon Sureshot G1. The AVI file plays fine in Windows Media Player 7.01.00.3055. If I right click the file in Explorer and select properties it says:
Audio
Audio format PCM
Average data rate 11.24Kb/second
Sample rate 11.24 khz
Audio sample size 8 bit
Channels 1 (Mono)
Video
Frame width 320 pixels
Frame height 240 pixels
Play length 30.0 seconds
Frame count 450
Frame rate 15.01 frames/second
Data rate 146.855 Kb/second

The web site says TMPGEnc supports all AVI formats that Windows Media Player does. Is that only for output? IOW, does TMPGEnc support AVI files as input?

Question - TE25 - Bilinear or Bicubic No.24204
Warloc  2002-07-01 04:17:39 ( ID:e0zkwppm2jo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to frameserve a .avs script to tmpgenc because I read that it can resize faster than tmpgenc's built in resizer. Does tmpgenc use bilinear or bicubic resizing when it makes a VCD?

Minion  2002-07-01 10:10:14 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I beleive it uses the direct show cubic resizer, but I don"t know what you mean by the resizer being slow cuz the resizer doesn"t take any time (if I under stand what you are talking about)it actually takes longer to encode a movie as eg:704 by 480 avi to a 704 by 480 mpeg than it takes to encode a 704 by 480 avi to a 352 by 240 mpeg but then I might not understand what you mean...

When I start to encode avi movie into mpeg it gives me an error message that says -537403781 180576. This keeps on popping up every two to three seconds and I have to click OK. It does encode in between these error messages but pauses when they appear. If anybody can help please reply ASAP!

zameis  2002-07-01 00:52:23 ( ID:egxftwr3fzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a few Stargate SG1 divx files with AC3 sound. I have extracted the AC3 sound from the avi file and converted it to a wav file successfully.

When I use TMPGEnc, tried 2.52; 2.53 & 2.54, to convert to ntscfilm there are no files. I usually create a batch file for a few different episodes and leave my machine for a few hours. I do not click the "turn off" when finished option. When I return the program is no longer running has been shut down and there are no MPG files to be found, not even a partial from the first one that started.

I have convert about a dozen episodes in the same manner with no problems until now. I can not figure it out.

Any help or suggestions or questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

John

If it wasn"t for the fact that there is not any files after encodeing I would say that your batch files had the same output file name as each other, cuz if you have your out put file with the same name each movie will re-write the next one, just a thought.....

zameis  2002-07-01 03:58:31 ( ID:egxftwr3fzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the reply.

I encode my files from one drive to another drive and each file had a different name. i can't understand it. also, Iv'e tried encoding my avi's to m2v & audio to mp2 then simple multi-plex, the work but the audio is out of sync with the video. another puzzle to the question.

Just another question, since you are probably more familiar with TMPGEnc more than I am. avi files w/ac3 sound, what would you recommend doing to convert to MPG2 for SVCD?

Any insight you may have regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, tmpgenc will not encode the ac3 sound so you will need to extract the ac3 to a wav file with an ac3 decoder then you can encode the avi to mpeg and the wav from the ac3 to mp2 with tmpgenc.you could save the ac3 and mux it with the mpeg file but I don"t think any dvd players will play it....

zameis  2002-07-01 23:57:56 ( ID:egxftwr3fzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've tried that. I used virtualdub to extract the ac3 file from the avi, then used headac3he to convert ac3 to wav then used tmpgenc to convert wav to mp2 and convert video from avi to mv2 and then simple multiplex.

I've also tried to let tmpgenc convert the wav with the avi video to mpg2.

Each way the audio is out of sync and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Question - TE25 - Is there a compression rate setting??? No.24192

Greetings,

is there a way to set the compression rate? I would like to reduce the size of the files encoded with TMPG. Thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks

Ste

Minion  2002-07-01 01:47:50 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don"t really know what you mean by compression rate ,the compression rate is set to the mpeg standard, there are different encodeing modes that will help keep file size down and there is the bitrate this is the biggest factor of what determines your file size , useing the CQ (Constant Quality) encodeing method will give you the smallest file size with the best quality, to change most of the settings you will have to load the"unlock.mfc"template in the "Extra" folder...

mike prescott  2002-07-01 21:39:50 ( ID:jjuoli2e8m. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

in "other settings" "system" I unlocked the "stream type" and set it to "mpeg 1 system automatic". I found that that together with reducing the frame size and the bitrate significantly reduced the output mpeg size

Granted no one site is all encompassing, and I myself am a regular user of www.dvd-digest.com, but I find the layout of the site for beginners a little confusing which is why I suggested VCdhelp.
It has an easier to understand approach and deals with people as total newbies who have no prior experience. Which I thought would be more relevant to the original poster and VChelp has exaxtly the info the person needs.
He didn't ask for sites to research just a guide.

So in retort to your jibe about research, maybe you should try reading the posts more clearly before making assumptions of things you know little about as I have probably done more research into encoding over the last 3 years than you have had hot dinners sonny.

Cheers,
ASHY

>Maybe you should do a little research into your spelling.
If this is the line in question 'VChelp has exaxtly' to which you refer, may I just explain that it is not my spelling that is at fault, but my typing. I do not claim to be the worlds greatest touch typist and find that remark rather pedantic coming from ,as you say, someone so distinguished as yourself (hmm yeh right).

Regarding your remarks concerning the fact that it is up to the user to make a choice, then you are absolutely right. The reason why your posts offend me is that I have been using this BBS for a long time now and have seen many 'chumps' like yourself come and go who think they know it all and seem to contradict every post anybody else makes.

This BBS is about helping people and giving incorrect advice doesn't help. The way you make your posts it seems you like to sham the advice of others as you think yours is more relevant. Advice on this BBS should be given in addition to not instead of and trying to throw your weight around by claiming you are such and such a person is just laughable as it means diddly on this BBS and won't impress anybody, least of all myself.

Anyway keep researching and pay a few more visits to this BBS you may learn something from my posts.

I got problem with my audio by burning DVD with Sonis myDVD. Audio disappear after 80% of movie. I'd like to try NERO.
Now, when I come to burn it onto the DVD using Nero I get these error messages in Nero: Required file VIDEO TS.IFO IS NOT PRESENT and

DVD VIDEO FILES Compliance Test Failed
But after TMPGenc I'm getting single mpg.file.
Any suggestion ?

You need to use an authoring program like "spruce up" or "dvdit" to make the Video.TS folder for you then you can burn it with nero,it is good to author it so you can put chapters in...

Thanks for reply.
So,doesn't mean TMPGenc doesn't create those files for NERO even I choose
DVD settings ? I'm not so happy to use one more software , but if you say there is no other way, I'll try.

Thanks
Sergey

If anything Nero should make those files out of your mpeg file, but if you really
want to have a dvd that plays like a dvd then you Should author menu"s and do chapters I even do them with vcd"s and they make watching a movie more enjoyable and whith out chapters how would you skip to the next scene or fast forward or rewind with any acuracy at all.....

Hi Minion
Well last nigth I did some more work.
I found out that I have a problem with Sonic myDVD program - audio disapear after about 80% ov movie. So, I did download Ulead Movie Factory trial version and it's working fine.I'm doing all chapters and no problem with audio.
So,this is just trial version of Ulead and I have Nero yet.I saw explanation in vcdhelp.com how to author DVD with Nero. But my question again about TMPGenc:can I get those files in TMPGenc for NERO without additional software,
Thanks,Sergey

Yes you should but for some reason you can"t, nero should make those files while proscessing your file, but tmpgenc isn"t a DVD maker it is a mpeg and it is up to your authoring software to put it to disk, but if you got dvdit and ulead dvd movie factory then you don"t need Nero cuz they will burn it for you....
