Question - TE25 - Program vs. Transport Stream No.19106
Craig Burnham  2002-04-16 14:40:27 ( ID:wove/w4dss6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Creating files to run on a BitBand Server . . . Encoding MPEG1's. Samples run fine on desktop, but when they load the files into the server, they're dead. Specification says they MUST be "program stream" not "transport stream". Don't know the difference, and can't find any settable parameter to specify the stream type. So far, nobody has an answer! HELP!

sherlock  2002-04-17 03:08:44 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have no idea what a transport stream is but I do know that "tmpgenc" makes "program streams" and "elementary streams" and that is it,maybe your problem comes from the way you are sending your files to your server, would they not have to be in a "transport stream" to transport them to your server, just an idea...hope you figure it out........sherlock

Question - TE25 - mpeg2 to mpeg1? How can I do it? No.19102
KiwiHacker  2002-04-16 13:52:28 ( ID:q7eesjkxjvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there,
I've been looking for a converter software, that rips from a SVCD and turns it into a VCD (converts mpeg2 into mpeg1). The problem is that I have a new Stand-alone DVD player. It only plays VCDs but all the bloody movies are in mpeg2 format. I've already tried to just copy the actual movie file on my hard drive and then burn a normal VCD with nero. But of course that didn't quite work. So now I'm asking you, before smashing the SVCDs with... I don't know... something. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

try converting it (the .dat file) to VCD using TMPGENC but I do not think it will work as when burned, changes the file formats and cannot be "decoded".

I might be wrong but this is my theory.

Hmm I know that if you use vcdgear (www.vcdgear.com) you can convert .dat files to mpg and other stuff but I don't know if this works for SVCD but do have a look at the url.

:)

Once you figure out how to rip the MPEG2 file off the SVCD, you could try converting the file headers to VCD (without re-encoding to MPEG1), burn to VCD and fool your player into playing the SVCD files. See my post "Play SVCDs on your VCD-only DVD player!" - http://www.tmpgenc.net/cgi-bin/ebbs/board.cgi?board=tmpgenc#topic4516

Question - TE25 - smaller file size No.19098
mxpxpxpx  2002-04-16 13:24:23 ( ID:d0mcq35tgrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I converted a 640MB AVI to MPG and the MPG was 912MB I need it small enough to fit it on a cd I am using the NTSC VCD option.

Thanks,
Matt Nichols

Techno  Home )  2002-04-16 14:50:49 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MPEG and avi are different formats so you cannot expect the convertion to go smaller in size.

Try open the MPEG file and re-encoding it, it will NOT lose quality :)

You should find it is smaller in size

Also, if you are trying to burn it as VCD then burn it using nero, as long as it is less than 80mins (700MB) or 74 mins (650MB), nero will burn it, regardless the size.

I have tried it myself 2 days ago.

Maby you could use

Bearson's Bitrate Calculator

You can get it from some of the URL's previously posted here.

The thing is that is calculate video data for DivX output size but I guess you could do it the reverse way if you know how much % you have to add or withdraw from the end results so you know what to keep the average bitrate to or constant bitrate to.

You just have to try. I suggest you go for 2 Cd's instead of one cd. Since VCD or SVCD is bigger that DivX, it has harder compression.

I would say that if you encode DivX to VCD or SVCD try to keep it to double the size, 1-cd with DivX would then be 2-cd's bith VCD or SVCD. But if you have a low quality DivX it's not worth re-encoding it to other formats.

Personaly im into re-encoding DivX stuff but then I only convert 640*360 divx or higher quality. Or if it is released on 2 cd's (the divx file)

I have a vcd file that is at a bitrate of 3000kbs it is 40 minutes long and is 890mb but when I try to burn it with nero nero says it is 90 minutes long and wont burn it,or will burn it but not all of it,so I think the time scale in nero only works with compliant vcd and svcd bit streams, cuz no matter how long the file is nero wont burn more than 800mb on a 700mb cd....

Question - TE25 - How can I split my Svcd that I can burn it on a cd No.19095
TR82  2002-04-16 13:13:14 ( ID:p4bakfomxpk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How can I split my mpeg files so that I have only 700MB without having a loss at quality?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-16 13:16:59 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

are u trying to burn it as a VCD?

if so, use nero:

make sure that the video is not more than 80mins.

You can safely burn this in nero as a VCD.

otherwise, you can use the source range filter, in the advanced settings, to encode into 2 parts.

you also may wish to use the merge and cut tool in the MPEG tools options in the file menu of TMPGENC.

Question - TE25 - an error occured when audio was decoded No.19093
Serge  2002-04-16 12:48:05 ( ID:xvzxlll7jr6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when attempting to encode avi to mpeg on a particular file (does not happen on every file)i get the following error message <an error occured when audio was decoded> is there any way around it?
Thanks

Techno  Home )  2002-04-16 12:51:51 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

download virtualdub

open the MPEG/avi file

then goto file > save wav and save the audio

then load the audio and video in TMPGENC and encode.

This should solve the problem.

Bug report - TE25 - Memory leak when encoding from .WMV No.19091
EyeBaLL  Home )  2002-04-16 12:46:59 ( ID:xwzk2dlid/2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

Several months ago I had made a backup of my DVD Jeanne d'Arc using windows media 8 encoder. Now I bought a new dvd player that can play VCD so I tried to convert my .WMV file to VideoCD with TMPGEnc 2.53. I could not do it because when encoding the program starts eating more and more memory until I have no disk space left. I am running Windows 98 SE on a Celeron 400 with 128 Megs of ram. The only way I could convert this .WMV file to .MPG has been to reencode it to .WMV but using MP43 codec and not WMV2 codec, then using AsfTools to convert it to .AVI, then change the fourcc to DIV3.

I think there is somewhere a problem in the directshow source filter you use, maybe it does not deallocate the frames that are already read or something like this... Please check this issue.

Thank you for developing such a great encoder

sherlock  2002-04-17 03:28:33 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the problem is that "tmpgenc"isn"t really supposed to encode wmv even though there are ways around it ,try re-nameing the wmv to asf. and the other problem is that your computer is to slow, mine is twice as fast and 4 times the memory and "tmpgenc" sucks up all my memory(ram not hd)

Question - TE25 - Am I that Stupid, Continued No.19089
zertndo  2002-04-16 09:11:59 ( ID:fwuobfqhvi6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Let's see, I used the wizard and if I chose a template, I probably chose VCD 80mins.
I also used the wizard in Nero to burn it.

I am, however, using very inexpensive CD-R's. (Some people would say cheap!)

The DVD player is 3 weeks old. It is a Koss and was sold by Sears for $99.99/
(It was a gift) It states that it plays all formats except some of the older stuff.

I will try some better quality CD-R's or maybe CD-RW's.

Also, Why is there no help file for TMPGenc? It seems like a great program.

BTW...thanks for all of the advice.....

Question - TE25 - Blocky Video where Still Title Starts the Movie No.19087
Gillette  2002-04-16 04:24:05 ( ID:k6hgy9s1hlj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use Studio 7 to edit and encode to AVI. Then, using TMPGEnc, I encode to MPEG2, then burn to SVCD and play the 30 minute movie on my Hitachi 505 stand-alone DVD player. Normally, it works very good. Last two times using the same CD-RW disk, I got some blocky artifacts at the start of the movie. The start of the movie is a still title with music in the background. After the still title has played, the movie plays flawlessly to the end. This happened twice and has never happened before. So, I looked into the setting of TMPGEnc 2.51 and it had "No motion search for still picture part by half pixel." Wonder if that was the problem? I use 2-pass VBR (new)2450max, 1950ave, 800min, High Quality. I tried it with "Motion Estimate Search", but got blocky results at the start of the movie also.

Got any ideas or suggestions, please?

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-16 09:18:36 ( ID:gdoi5fzrbsw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm.

Try with a NEW cd-rw or try with a ordinary CD-R just to make sure it's not the cd-rw disc.

Oh and another thing, try to burn the CD at 2X speed and with "track-at-once". I burn with 4X usualy but not more since some standalones have problems reading the disc if you burn fastar than 4X. The thing is if the standalone encounters some error or read problem it slows down and the blockyness will accour I think.

And another thing. Try and keep the filesize of the encoded file to 800mb I know there are files out there that are 813 or 824mb but I have had problems burning them since I found out that some cd-r's get wasted because that people are pushing the maximum data onto cd's.

Hmm extract the audio from the avi file and use the uncompressed wav file for sound scource and the avi for video scource, then encode it, will work fine then.

Managed to encode divx/avi file to mpg format with tmpg enc but it is too bit too copy onto a cd. Tried to cut/edit movie with mpeg tools but when i get to the bit where it asks you to move the slider to the middle part of the movie the slider does not move and the program stops responding. Any answers?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-16 09:38:49 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You may have frames corrupted.

use something like DIVXFIX for ur avi file and see if it can fix it.

TMPGENC never lies! :)

Before you move any slider, try to click start and then click Pause right away, now you can try to move your sliders.

increase the directshow filter to a higher priority also, tick or untick all of the check boxes in the quantize matrix settings.
