Hi, i have Auth works 4 and was wondering if the offer of free Auth works 5 extends to existing customers of your product as there seems no mention o this in emails?
My impresson is that it is free for folks who buy AW4 on/after Feb 24. Likely a paid upgrade for others
See http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/press/12_0224.html
FWIW AW4 was a $60 upgrade for prior version owners.
Well I can tell you one thing I bought my version of AW4 9 days before the 24th Feb and they won't budge on me asking if they will reduce the cost when the time comes that AW5 is out, It's not like I bought it 18 months ago seems a bit unfair.

I purchased mine almost the same day as you and feel the same way. I emailed them about my feelings and, as yet, have received no reply. From the bad reviews on this latest version I probably won't upgrade anyway.
I think TMGEnc video Mastering need "Automatic" option for some options for detect setting(video system, framerate,Aspect ratio,Display Mode) in formats. This is useful when import several clips with different information.
I want to convert clip with 30p(progressive) to 25p(interlace) but there is not frame blending option as same "Premier,Edius,Nero".
after converting in 3 first frames top/bottom fields are different an 2 next frames top/bottom fields are similar and this method repeat again for all frames but after converting with "Premier,Edius,Nero" with enable "frame blend" option top/bottom fields of all frames are different and motion of output is very good..
please add "frame blend" to TMPGEnc Video Mastering
Hi,
In the list of available presets for encoding, it would be very helpful if there was a catagory of presets for internet video, youtube, vimeo, etc HD,SD, etc
I have a DVD with 1 track in 1 title, with numerous chapters. Changing it to each chapter in its own track.
Source DVD has been copied, with chapters of course, to dvddata file on HD.
Select the source for Track 1 as DVD drive, load the title, and remove everything except first chapter.
On Track 2, select the DVD as source, then cut off both ends, leaving only the 2nd chapter.
Problem is, each time I do this the response time to Source Wizard - From a DVD, BD,... gets slower and slower, until it takes so long I close Authoring Works and re-open it.
Can't rename the .dvddata file to .mpg, because I lose the chapter information.
Use the split clip function in the cut-editor window instead. Just split at each chapter point, click "OK", then choose to keep all clips (blue and orange). This will create separate clips of all your chapters which you can then drag n' drop into other tracks.
I'm running a new system with i7-2600k @ 4.5GHz (Sandy Bridge) on win 7 x64 with 8GB ram, an Nvidia GTX560 card w/ 2GB memory, on an Asrock Z68 motherboard. I convert both MPEG2 and VC-1 files to MP4 with 5.1 sound for my home network video server. Any suggestions on best settings to use for good quality with best transcoding speed? (sources are either 720x480 or 1080p from DVD and/or blu-ray rips) The best I've been getting so far using a 720x480 source and same resolution output in x264 mp4 format is around 18 minutes to process a 2 hour movie. I have the intel HD grahics available, the cuda access, or straight cpu (with 4 core / 8 threads). Any thoughts on best settings for this?
i have the exact system you have (great minds think alike)i've used version 4 for a while now with diferent systems and output speed now is great it would take me anywhere from 1.5 hr to 4hr per movie, now start to disk exit in 15 minutes is great i can't think of a faster system now of coures is technolgy gets better it will get faster but the system we have now this is great just keep the setup as you have it
I will NEVER buy this product until it gets up to date with the rest of the world and outputs to AVCHD and H/X264 AND smart renders losslessly of course.
Is there a lack of expertise with the Pegasys developers to handle the job in hand?
And a lot of the world is still quite happy doing DVDs.
You may have moved on. HOwever, they are in business to sell product at a profit> The question is what has their primary market done, and how many additional copies would they sell by adding the features you ask for now, as opposed to at some time in the future?
There is little reason to spend limited development resoruces on adding a feature that will not add corrsponding additional sales
Hm, I'm not quite sure about that. In my opinion Pegasys changed the name of their authoring solution from "DVD author" to the more general "Authoring Works" and added the term "bluray authoring" to their adds in order to sell additional copies to people who want to author blurays and not only DVDs. Fact is: bluray authoring with "Authoring Works" is almost impossible because of the missing support for h.264. For me MPEG-2 makes no sense on Blurays because of the lower efficiency compared to h.264 and because HDTV and avchd streams need to be converted, which consumes lots of time and quality. What really drives me crazy is that in my opinion the user interface of DVD Author / Authoring Works is one of the best on the market. I really would love to spend my money, if only h.264 would be supported...
The Japanese version of TAW5 is out and it has AVCHD and BD H.264 output and H.264 smart rendering. The English version should be coming soon. SO CHILL OUT.
I hope this becomes available soon for English market, I had a BSOD which rebooted the entire system while doing a conversion from AVCHD to DVD with the current 4.1.2.49 and I'd love to test the new version.
I need to convert many files and I want output them as separate files. I cannot for the life of me find a way to do this. I can add them one at a time and then do a batch encode but that is time consuming. Is there no way to do this? I see options that talk about "outputting clips separately" but I find no tick box to select that option. Google search says this was an option in 4 xpress. I'm sure there is an easy way and I'm just overlooking it. Thanks for your help.
I've been using TMPGEnc since the version 4 days. I like it. V5 with x264 seems to scale better (or at least use more of the CPU consistantly) on my quad system. I prefer to set every setting on the most cpu-intensive/quality settings. This means that encoding takes a long time... even for my over clocked quad core system. AMD opteron CPUs are relatively cheap and I was wondering if it were worth investing in a rendering system. Can TMPGEnc scale up to 16 or even 48 cores well.
I'm guessing it will, but I don't know for sure since I've only used it with up to 8 cores. The x264 encoder uses nearly 100% of my CPU. Optimization varies for the other formats/encoding engines.
Thanks for the feedback. I've only seen v4 on an 8 thread machine (i7 4 core with HT). It did not load the entire cpu. I believe v5 probably does use a cpu better, but I still can't help but wonder about much higher scaling. In other words I could spend like $1,000 for get 12 cores at ~2.2Ghz-2.6GHz or I could spend around $3,000 and get 48 cores. Could you imagine the let down when only 8 cores were being used?
