You're encoding an AVI to MP2? I don't think that's possible. Maybe you are converting an AVI to MPEG? Make sure your AVI is working. If it is, go into TMPGEnc, Options, Environmental Setting, VFAPI plug in. Right-click on DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority so that the entire row is at the top of the list. Restart TMPGEnc and try converting.
im having a problem with compressing my avi files. the final file has a lot of boxes in the movie its self....pixelation i think thats the term. is there a way to work around this? im using tmpgenc with the default settings for mpeg2.please help.thank you
Was your original AVI like this? If yes, please check that you have installed the proper codec. You can download the free GSpot to see what codec it uses. You're "compressing" the AVI? Do you mean "converting"?
I'm trying to encode a Windows Media 9 encoded file to DVD (MPEG-2). It's encoding fine, but it shows like ~ 105,000 frames on a 25 minute video, and at about 33% done it hits the credits, then it encodes a bunch of blank frames that DO NOT exsist in the video.
Any Ideas. I've used the free version and the Plus Trial, same result.
i'm new to this game and have just started using the freeware version of tmpgenc the problem is that i converted an avi file to mpeg1 for a vcd, that was fine but when i play the vcd the audio and video are out of sync with each other as i have said i,m new to this game so i,m wondering if i have the program set up incorrectly any help would be welcome especially if it is in laymans language, cheers.
I have some satellite classes I have recorded that are 5 hours. I am trying out the Authoring version and love it. But, is there an easier way to have it determine how much goes on one DVD, then put the rest on a 2nd one?
I've recently had trouble converting some WMV files to DVD format.
During playback of the files in edit mode, video pauses for a few seconds while audio keeps playing. After a pause, video resumes in sync with the audio (i.e. it jumps ahead to catch up with the audio).
Pauses occur every few seconds, and always at the same places.
The glitch that takes place in edit mode carries over to encoding, i.e. my converted movies pause exactly as they do in edit mode playback.

i am using version 2.521.58.169...to convert pal mpg svcd to ntsc film mpg...more and more often i am getting frame freezes.....the resulting encodes are useless...i have checked a few with vdubmpeg and there doesnt seem to be any problems...i used to use a newer version but many mpgs wouldnt open even after changing the environmental settings
does TMPEGnc have a filter to apply subttitles? im trying to add subs to an mpeg but virtual dub only records avi's making a reduction in quality of the video.
All you need is VOBSUB.
VOBSUB will automatically add the subs for you when you load the AVI into TMPG.
You must ensure the subs are in the same folder as the AVI and have exactly the same name as the AVI. http://www.divx-digest.com/software/vobsub.html
To make sure VOBSUB is working play the AVI, you should see a litle green arrow pop up in your task bar.
You should then see the subs in your movie.
I have a problem encoding 23.97 frame rate xvid files to DVD.
The problem is a slight jerk on playback not all the time but at regular intervals about every 5-10 seconds.
I have searched through the forum and got some great help but I still can't get rid of these jerks.
My PC is a P4 with 512 DDR.
A typical file properties from GSpot are
Codec - Xvid/yv12 (which are installed)
xy - 592x320 (1.85:1) [=37:20]
FPS - 23.97
Bitrate 876
Qf 0.193 (what ever that is?)
The problem occures when encoding with TMPGEnc Plus, the settings I have used are:
Video tab
720X480
16:9 Display
23.976fps (internally 29.97)
CQ 65 max 8000 min 2000
Main Profile & Main Level [MP@ML]
NTSC
3:2 pulldown when playback
Advanced
Non-Interlace (progressive)
Top field first
16:9 Display
No Margin (keep aspect ratio)
My knowledge on 3:2 pulldown isn't the best but my understanding is that with this form of encoding I am placing tags on the file for the DVD player to decode from 23 - 30.
I have had better results using Ulead Studio 7 and just encoding to PAL DVD but that doesn't explain what I am doing wrong with TMPGEnc.
I'm converting a movie file from mpeg1 -> mpeg2, and it went through the whole process, but when I look at the movie in mpeg2 form, it seems the video is out of sync of what it is in mpeg1 form, somehow the mpeg2 one is only about 3/4 the actual movie of mpeg1, but is the same length? Any help would be appreciated.
well i was pulling my hair out and depressed till i figure it out.
used Tmpgenc to make dvd usable file.
burn with ulead movie factory and presto A dvd r or rw that plays in anything.
makes a 1.5 gig file from 700 meg avi.
now if i could compress to a cdr playable on dvd.
no loss of quality
Nero 6.2 would not code and burn 700 meg file and be readable. files were 6 to 8 gig.if i decrease quality to low low the would work.
as a nubie use tmpgenc. to make file.
i am going to try to burn atmpGenc file with nero again

I am going away for 4 months and to make things easier for the girlfriend to encode video, I am showing her how to use the project wizard to encode to dvd.
Unfortunately, the setting I prefer to use (my templates) will not show up in the project wizard. I am using tmpgenc plus 2.510.049.157
For the life of me, I can't seem to work out how to get my template under the 'other settings'.
anyone shed some light on how to do this?
Cheers
Make sure you make the template with the current version of TMPG you are using.
Unlock all of the settings first with the 'unlock.mcf'.
Give the template it's own unique name and an .mcf extension and then put it in the template folder.
That should do it.
