Almost all the posts that I go to to try to find an answer to my problem, I find someone trying to make a VCD (You know, what the free version allows.)

Are there any struggling DVD creators out there? I need your help. Still getting jerky playback on my DVD player. Okay on PC. Yes I used the default NTSC DVD template. Tried it on 3 types of media both DVD-R and DVD-RW but it's not my DVD having difficulty with reading recordable media because I compress in ULEAD and it plays flawlessly on my DVD player. (Looks like crap, though.)

Using the NTSC DVD template as a reference; what setting would be causing this stop and go playback I am encountering? And no it's not FIELD ORDER.

Ok, if you want help then you will have to give us some info. Just telling us you have jerky playback isn't enough, lets have some details.
What bitrates you are using? What is the source format and your output format?
Have you messed with the default GOP settings? What is the media you are using? What speed are you burning at?
Anything else you think is relevant.

Also as a test try changing the VBV buffer setting to 40 and let us know the results.

Also what software are you using to build the VOBS and what do you use to burn it?
Have you tried a different program to build the VOBS?

bitrates: started with 2-pass vbr, then 6000kbps CBR, finally started using DVD NTSC template provided by TMPGEnc. (It defaults to CQ)

source format: Field Order A/DV Type-1, converted all clips to FO B/DV Type-2 to no avail. Now I am back to Field Order A/DV Type-1, which is what my ieee1394 card originally captures in

output format: See source format. Kinda mixed it in. :)

Messed with GOP settings: At 1st yes. Right now using DVD NTSC template.

Media using: MAXELL DVD-Rs and a no name DVD-RW. Both exhibit same problem except when encoder is ULEAD's, then okay but oogly.

Burn speed: 1x for DVD-RW and 2x for DVD-R

The VOB creation tool is TMPGEnc DVD Author. But again DVDs play without skipping on my DVD settop if encoded via ULEAD's Mediastudio 7 MPEG encoder. Ones encoded in TMPGEnc play perfectly on PC but skip on settop DVD.

Oh and I've tried both interleaved audio and wavs seperated from video in 48kHz 16-bit PCM format. Both the audio and the video skip in unison. I say this because I've seen posts where people say the video skips but audio plays.

Again all trouble is experienced on settop DVD player, not WinDVD(didn't mention b4.) Trouble is not there using ULEAD's encoder...

Ok, does your AVI use any sort of pulldown?
I.E. is it 23.976 fps with 3:2 pulldown added or is it a true 29.970 fps source?

Maybe you should try creating a test MPEG using IVTC then add 3:2 pulldown after with Pulldown.exe to see the results.

The encoder works perfectly for PC video but even with its NTSC DVD template I get hanging audio and video. Plays for 1 sec and then hangs for 1 sec. Like Ralph Machio trying to drive a standard.

Who built the NTSC DVD template for TMPGEnc and why? I had to use ULEAD's encoder on a sample I sent into a video distribution house.

Oh and by the way everybody, strobe lights are the hardest things to compress because many times they exist only within the space of one frame. TMPGEnc was a wiz at getting rid of artifacts experienced during compressing strobes but there's something keeping me from being able to play it properly on my settop DVD player (SAMSUNG N501).

Right now I'm using a trial version of TEPlus, the newest version. I'd just like to ask why you have deleted the option to encode SVCD lower than 1600kbps for video bitrate in wizard mode. It's still possible thru "Expert settings" but not possible in the fit-for-cd screen, and that's where I'd like it to be. You see, before, I was able to put three ~20min anime episodes onto one cdr. Now I'd have to calculate the bitrate myself, and I see no point in that because TMPgenc has this kind of function already implemented... only now, limited :(

Try using KVCD templates.

OR just load in the SVCD template in expert mode, and modify it and save it under your custom name e.g. anime..

I can change the highlight on the play button using PhotoShop but I was wondering if it there was any way to change the highlight on a moving thumbnail. I would rather have a border around the thumbnail and blue would fit better with my theme than yellow. Is this possible?

I have 10 source MOV files that are 480x320 and I would like to put them on a disc that I can view on my 16x9 65" HDTV using a progressive scan DVD player that is capable of reading VCDs and SVCDs. What setting would be optimal for this conversion? There are advanced settings such as 3:2 pulldown and such, but I'm not sure which will work best. I would like to preserve the 16x9 ratio (720x480) if possible, but not sure quite how to do that. Any help or ideas on settings for TMPGEnc would be greatly appreciated.

BTW - I already got the MOV plugin and that is working great.

Now we know why so many other mpeg encoders out there don't give you as many options as TMPGEnc... They would be flooded with error reports and incompatibility issues. And somehow I like not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

I'm trying to put an AVI movie onto a DVD-R. I'm using TMPGenc to produce the Mpeg 2 streams.

The original AVI has a screen resolution of: 624*336

When I use the wizard template to create the PAL widescreen it produces the video stream with a 720*576 resolution.

I then used DVD Maestro to author my DVD but the result has the edges cut off and is not widescreen.

Any ideas please?

I found the solution, I had the authoring software (DVD Maestro) set to 4:3 screen ration! Swapped it to 16:9 and all is working fine!

Anybody out there have templates for TMPGEnc 2.521 for NTSC Region 1 DVD output.

A variety at different bitrates would be nice. I'm just tired of configuring the damn thing and need a template or templates that I can at least examine and contrast with my own for learning purposes.

Right now I am experiencing stuttering playback on my settop DVD player only. NO problem on PC. ***Not a field issue, either.*** It's not stuttering fields. A wrong field will still play through at the correct speed but look like your on some serious tranquilizers when viewing. This is pauses in the stream itself.

Try the NTSC template that comes with TMPG and don't try converting PAL to NTSC cuz it won't work.
Don't burn the disk to fast and keep away from cheap media such as Princo.

I bought both TMPGEnc and the DVD Author package a couple of days ago and am having a problem that I can't seem to shake.

Video plays fine on my computer (WINDVD 4) but stutters on my set top DVD player (SAMSUNG N501 w/nuon enhancements). It's not field arrangement, though because the video and audio actually stop and then resume at the next frame. I first was experiencing this just using the WIZARD for TMPGEnc but it was sort of sporadic and seemd to be happening the most around direct cuts from one camera to another (not on crossfades).

I went to a site that someone here advised that had Optimized settings for MPEG 2 creation in TMPEGEnc and setup a template accordingly. Now I am getting more stuttering than before, this time more uniform every 2 secaonds with 1 second pause in between.

The only really significant change that I noticed between TMPGEnc's WIZARD settings and the one's I had been instructed to set it for was the GOP size and order. Currently I've got a smaller GOP compared to what TMPG came set with. It is something like IBPBPBPBP. Might have typed too many but what I'm getting at is that it went from being what appeared to be a random sequence with random stuttering to a smaller ordered sequence with smaller times between stutters. I've also got Scene Detection enabled, which adds I-frames to areas where scene transitions occur. My GOP MAX size limit for NTSC is set for 18 per the instructions on the Optimization page.

VERY important that I get this to work, as the project I am currently working on is for my favorite band in the whole world. Imagine getting to do a video for something you set as an unrealistic life goal. That's how important fixing this problem is for me.

Please ask for any other specifics. I can get extremely technical, if needed. Just have a problem with writing out entire novels... :)

The first time I burned my DVD using WIZARD settings, I used 2 pass vbr.
The second time, after applying optimizations, I used CBR @ 6000kbps.

I get the same thing... Except at places where my cheap Apex would stutter, the ATI software on my PC crashes. The same file encoded at the same bitrate and GOP settings in LSX plays flawlessly on both the Apex and PC. What a shame. TMPG produces nicer looking video than LSX, but you got to go with what works.

there is a free directshow filter [RealMediaSplitter.ax]
with enable tmegenc to convert rmvb to mpeg using directshow,
unfortunaly there seem to be a bug in tmpgenc.

tmpgenc can't decode and convert the audio stream to
the output mpg.

only the video stream is converted in tmpgenc. !!!

You will have to convert the audio to a wav first.

First of all, I'm a newbie at this stuff. I have an avi. file I wanted to convert to mpeg, so I could put it on dvd. So I down loaded the free tmpgenc and tried coverting the file. I used the wizard, but set it at ntcs. I followed all the steps, but when I started the process, it told me that the file that it would create would be 3 hours plus. Which exceeded it's limitations. The original video is only 90 minutes. I also tried a different process, that would create separate video/audio files in mpeg1. I got an error message saying it couldn't load P3(something).dll.

If you are making a DVD, you should convert the AVI file to MPEG-2. The free version of TMPGEnc has a limited number of free MPEG-2 that you can convert. After you exceed that limit, you can only make MPEG-1 which is for VCD.

Try closing the wizard and then opening your AVI file. Then set your settings via the "Settings" button to see how it would turn out. Again, if you are making a DVD, you can click "Load" and then select your DVD template.

I did everything you mentioned, (thanks), but I get the error message, " unable to load p3package.dll". This pops up when I click on start.

I'm not sure about that either. I get it sometimes too but after several tries, the error disappears.

i have an avi file which consists of cantonese+mandarin. i want only cantonese or mandarin. how do i do that?

Extract the track you require with Virtualdub to a wav.
