Question - TE25 - VBR Audio No.39281
paultherbert  2003-10-01 14:51:24 ( ID:ad8/qkszgcg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

cant encode avi or divx files which have VBR audio. Any suggestions, thanks Paul from London

Minion  2003-10-01 21:54:41 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to extract the audio from the AVI file to WAV format then use the Wav file as the audio source in tmpgenc...You can extract the audio with Virtual Dub....

Ryoko  2003-11-02 17:12:08 ( ID:bypd1reey0a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

there's a nice little program called "decompress.exe"
you can decompress any VBR audio stream so that tmpgenc can work with it.

Question - TE25 - TMPGenc Server No.39275
Moskvar  2003-10-01 11:48:35 ( ID:vbxb2z3ggul )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello there,

I wonder something that might appear weird for those who know.
I heard about a version Server of TMPGenc which could use the CQ technology with multi-passes up to 20.
My question is : where could I buy it ??
I tested TMPGenc and I'd rather use it than CCE.
Since TMPGenc is cheaper and I've been told that it actually uses Intel H.T very well which is really fastering the encoding time, why wouldn't I switch to tmpgenc ??
Well it's the 2 pass VBR limitation that freaks me out.
So since TMPGenc Server can uses up to 20 passes ( higher than CCE ) I would be pleased to switch, but I can't see no TMPGEnc Server in the download package available on TMPGenc.net.
Please help me find this server Version.
Thanks.

ashy  2003-10-01 11:56:12 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGenc server isn't available yet.

dstrege8  2003-10-02 00:32:12 ( ID:svdjnxfjddk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had heard it wasn't out yet. However, now that I'm reading this a couple of questions come up...

1. Any news on when it might be available?

2. Any thought of adding 3- or 4-pass capabilities to the current TMPGEncPlus?

Its a great software. My preference hands down. But back when I was checking out what to buy, I too leaned toward other encoders that offered more then 2-pass encoding.

Obviously I still went with the best (in my opinion).

Just wondering. Thanks.

David

The Server version was supposed to be Released Quite a while ago but it keeps getting put off ,so there could be a Possibility that it has been Put on hold or they stopped developeing it all together cuz they were talking about releasing allmost a year ago and there hasn"t been talk about it since...But there is No Need For 20 Pass encodeing cuz after 3 passes there isn"t really any quality gain anyways, Well not enough to warrent another Pass much less 17 passes especially at the speed Tmpgenc encodes....

Moskvar  2003-10-05 16:47:34 ( ID:dza4ackfrzw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank you Minion for the explanation on the topic.
However something in what you say remains blur.
What do you mean by 3 passes.
I am wrong telling that the actual version of TMPGenc is limited to 2 passes ?
So maybe by adding a third pass we might gain encoding quality ?
Cheers,
Mosk.

ashy  2003-10-06 22:06:39 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes TMPG is limited to 2 passes, what Minion is saying is that after 3 passes there is very negligible improvement if any.
Lets just get this straight, multiple pass encoding is really only for difficult or very low bitrate encoding where the bitrate needs to judiciously used. In most cases a regular source which is decent enough will yield a better result using the CQ method.

Trust me I have done many tests with many sources and have found in most cases multiple pass had a worse result regarding the image, but it may help when encoding a tricky source which is bad quality or with a lot of noise and when using very low bitrates. Just ask the regulars in this board what method they use and I bet most will say CQ.

If you have a good source source and are using a fair bitrate don't bother with multiple passes. It generally accepted in most encoding forums that any more than 3 pass is a waste of time and if there was a very slight difference you wouldn't even be able to notice it.

I have read a few of your q/a.
I have checked with gspot and it appears that my file is (I hope this is correct)DX50/divx divx 5.0
is there any way it can be coverted to a mpeg file so i can make a vcd.

ashy  2003-10-01 12:02:55 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Karen please observe the rules of the BBS.
Do not double post on the same subject and do not use caps.

To answer your question, download and install FFDSHOW. Once installed ensure it is configured for decoding DIVX.

Question - TE25 - Bitrate for DVD No.39268
monkeyboy  2003-10-01 06:44:22 ( ID:evuxpqb8m4n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What is the best recommended bitrate to use when creating an mpeg2 from avi. The final output will be dvd?

Minion  2003-10-01 21:51:36 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is No Best recomended Bitrate...It all depends on your Source file, if you have a Very High Quality source file you can get away with useing a Lower Bitrate than if you had a source file that wasn"t as High Quality...Generally the Bitrate should average between 4000kbs-6000kbs and Go no higher than about 9000kbs and No lower than say 2000kbs, If you Just use the Standard DVD template it should produce good results....

Hi,
I get error messages about template and reading when I try encoding .AVI to .MPG. I've tried many files, same thing. Last week I had no problem. I've dowloaded a fresh version of TMPGEnc, same thing. What's going on ? Anybody has a good idea for me ? Thanks.

Question - TE25 - Cut Mpeg at each I frame No.39261
JustVideo  2003-09-30 19:29:39 ( ID:0pp9gnz3fto )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to cut a mpeg file into small (very small) chunks i.e when the scene changes. I thought that one way might be to cut at each I frame or evrery 10 I frames. How can i achieve this using TMPGEnc ? Any command line ? There will very many chinks 1000+

Thanks
JustVideo

Minion  2003-09-30 22:29:10 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Slider in the "Merge & Cut" naturally stops on I Frames, so if you Use the Slider to Navigate were you want to cut then the cuts will allways be on an I frame..

Question - TE25 - beep after cut/merge No.39259

seraphiel helruner

Minion  2003-09-30 22:21:58 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This Happens when you Try to merge 2 or more files were the join Point is not on an I Frame...So When Joining 2 Files try cutting a Few Frames off of the end of File One and a Few Frames off the Beginning of File 2 then Merge them and Make sure you Click the "Correct" Button, This Button is supposed to fix this Problem but it doesn"t allways work....Cheers
