Question - TE25 - VCD not 100% White Book compatible No.23131
Stephen  2002-06-11 16:16:06 ( ID:b17htdcts.m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why are VCD not 100% compatible with "White Book"?

I am useing a program called "VCD 2.0TK" From Philps. The program gives me an error that my MPG are not a Valid VCD Fromat. I can get around this problem by useing "VCDMUX" but this means I have to make a Video Stream and and Audio Stream. Is there anyway to make the MPG 100% VCD Compliant??

(I have tried the Teplates and they do not make it 100% VCD Compliant)

ASHY  2002-06-11 17:48:48 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is just a little quirk of TMPG.
If you wanr 100% VCD 2.0 compliant yiur gonna have to remux it with VCD 2.0TK, but why bother using that old, dated and by now past it program when there are many other programs out there for authoring to VCD which won't give you this error and are better and easier to use.
TMPG MPEGs will play fine in just about any player you can think of when using the right software.

Hey ASHY

Do you know of the names of any programs Like VCD2TK? I like all the features it lets you have. I have been Makeing VCD Using Nero and I am tired of the simple menus

Question - TE25 - A word on 16:9 anamorphic streams No.23130
M. Bastian  2002-06-11 14:05:44 ( ID:vljrcsq3gdr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hias,

after I finaly made an firmware update of my Yamakawa 715 player to make the kvcd templates work I discovered that my player now sort of detects anamorphic encoded streams on VCDs. All I have to do is to insert an 16:9 DVD bevore I insert my VCD.
I dont know If that would have worked bevore the firmware update. I think its worth a try on other DVD players too.

Question - TE25 - time control on dvd that run vcd No.23127
ap  2002-06-11 13:49:35 ( ID:fgjpyqpo20r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi
while running vcd on dvd player time menu is avialable like track,
but i cant make the dvd move to another time ,
how can i make dvd to skip to another scene ?
to cut the mpg to several mpg's is good enought.
am i missing something ?
i use nero & tmpgenc
thanx

Tien_Avenger  2002-06-11 16:40:14 ( ID:m3tztpafvjr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if you cut the mpegs and burnt them in tracks like an audio cd then pushing the skip chapter should skip another chapter.

works for me

Use VCD easy to create chapter points then you will be able to skip through these chapters with ease and is much simpler than messing about creating multiple MPEGs.

Bug report - TE25 - noncontinuable Error opening DVD NTSC file No.23120
peu  2002-06-11 13:43:16 ( ID:i7.gcxrvnlw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the sequence is this:

-Captured via firewire from the camcorder using adobe premiere
-selected a portion of that capture using source range in tmpgenc
-compressed that capture using tmpgenc DVD ntsc 720x480
this was done succesfully

the noncontinuable error appears when I try to open this file with the wizard trying to compress it to Super VCD or VCD (any of the entries)

any hints

PS: why not compress directly to SVCD or VCD you ask, because I like to keep for archival the best compressed quality.

If you are trying to just store these files and not burn them to disk then you would get the same or better quality with smaller file size if you just use a divx format.mpeg format is pretty useless unless you are burning to disk or maybe streaming from a video server but there are better formats to stream from.....

Minion  2002-06-11 22:09:54 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ohh I allmost forgot, are you trying to encode your mpeg2/dvd ntsc to svcd or vcd?you might need to get the "mpeg2 vfapi plugin" so you can open mpeg2 files in tmpgenc cuz tmpgenc will not open mpeg2 files unless tou have the plugin installed and you still might have to de-multiplex the file to load it..

peu  2002-06-12 02:06:23 ( ID:i7.gcxrvnlw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I downloaded TMPGEnc-2.54.37.135-vfp.zip and the ran the TMPGEncVFP_Install.bat but the message still appears.

Do I need to download anything else?

Do I need any codec?

heeeelp

peu  2002-06-12 02:46:11 ( ID:i7.gcxrvnlw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

well, I demultiplexed the DV file into two streams: a mp2 audio file and a m2v video file.

when I load only the m2v file, the svcd process goes smoothly.

I checked the mp2 file in winamp and it plays fine, so there is no aparent corruption here.

But when I load both the mp2 and the m2v files in tmpgenc to create a svcd file, it crashes.

So here is my guess: tmpgenc doesn't accept compressed audio while going from dvd to svcd.

Why im sure? I uncompressed the mp2 file to a wav (using winamp for this), loaded the m2v file, then the wav file and the process runs without a glitch.

any ideas?

Drwatson blames these functions in the automatically generated log:

function: NtWaitForSingleObject

hope this helps

You probably need the "mpeg 2 vfapi plugin" you need it to open mpeg2 files in tmpgenc,I"ll try to e-mail it to you....

Question - TE25 - svcd multiplex error No.23113
creagle  2002-06-11 09:44:52 ( ID:wr.uxtrv47r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to multiplex an svcd file (size 740mb)
I am changing the type to mpeg1 video cd so as to fool
my dvd player into thinking its a vcd. The file runs about
halfway through and then stops with this message
154557 s packets cause buffer underflow.
this then leaves me with 350 mb playable file with half missing.

The movie plays all the way through on windvd with no problems
and if I dont change the video type when multiplexing
it still runs through only half way but without the error message

I have tried converting the mpeg to vcd with the project wizard
but tmpgenc wont even load the file that way , it says can not open
or unsupported.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris.

Minion  2002-06-11 10:20:58 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is a much better way to put the "vcd" headers on your mpeg2 file than de-multiplexing then multiplexing, doing this seems to actually cause the error you are getting, what you have to do is go to "merge and cut" load your mpeg2 file in and choose "mpeg1/vcd" from the drop down menu, choose your output directory then click "run".This will just make a copy of your mpeg2 file with the vcd headers on it to fool your player, and you wont get this error and it is faster than de-muxing then re-muxing..

creagle  2002-06-11 10:46:58 ( ID:wr.uxtrv47r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That works without any errors but it still only
produces a half length file.

creagle  2002-06-11 14:03:50 ( ID:wr.uxtrv47r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sorted it. I used womble to demultiplex
and then tmpgenc to multiplex with no problems

Question - TE25 - setting video arrange in .mcf config files No.23109
musicnyman  2002-06-11 01:53:03 ( ID:bjmk.0ucl8a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hey quick question. first, LOVE tmpgenc, second, to make my life easier, is there a setting in the .mcf files to automatically set the video arrange setting to "full screen (keep aspect ratio)" every single time? right now, when encoding 16:9 movies to 4:3 SVCD's, i have to set the source to 16:9 NTSC and video arrange method to full screen (keep aspect ratio) every single time. i would love to be able to set up a new template that does this for my 16:9 movies by default so i don't have to worry about it. thanks!

Minion  2002-06-11 07:44:09 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Not that I know of.Even when you program it into the template it doesn"t work.Tmpgenc is supposed to set the "source" aspec ratio for you but it seems to go to "704 by 480 525 line ntsc" when your file is "16:9", but I did some experiments and if you leave it to "704 by 480 525 line ntsc" the finished mpeg doesn"t seem to be any different than if you set it to "16:9",I"m sure there is a differance but I can notice it....

Question - TE25 - Video & Sound out of sync No.23106
Rob  2002-06-11 01:21:22 ( ID:cemywfw2q/a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, all looks real good except my audio and video are out of sync. Can't find a control for this...

Rob  2002-06-11 01:33:29 ( ID:cemywfw2q/a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Any suggestions???????????????????

Minion  2002-06-11 07:22:31 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Depending on what type of de-sync you have would warent a different method to fix it,if you have a simple case of the audio starting before or after the video causeing de-sync.with this type of de-sync you will have to download a multiplexer that allows you to off set the audio,There are a few that do this ,the multiplexor in "mpeg2vcr" or "m2-edit pro" will let you do this but i use the one in "bbmpeg" cuz it is free but it is a little bit more complicated than the others.so first you will have to de-multiplex your mpeg file then load it in to the multiplexor ,and the use the off set option to try to fix the de-sync..

Question - TE25 - Cant get sounds when encoding from .avi to .mpg...help No.23104
Spice  2002-06-10 23:50:57 ( ID:nuefbku5yec )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Three of my videos dont have sounds as a result from encoding from .avi to .mpg. I believe the problem lies in the fact that the .avi files are streamed with an MP3 audio. I know that TMPGenc cannot encode MP3 audios (it says it in the FAQ page) so how would I extract the MP3 audio from this .avi so I can get it to work. Any help would be great!!

Minion  2002-06-11 07:12:31 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to download a program called "virtua dub" and with that you can extract the audio from your avi to wav format then "tmpgenc" will encode it to mp2...

Question - TE25 - Larger resulting file than source file? No.23093
Memento  2002-06-10 23:32:59 ( ID:wgfkssljp/f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm sorry, I'm quite new to this.

I converted a .WMV file to .MPG, doing nothing more than opening it and converting it. The source file is about 2 megabytes but the resulting mpeg file is over 26 megabytes. I fiddled with it a bit, changing the bitrate, and it came out smaller but with reduced quality. How can I maintain quality and not increase the file size so much? I would appreciate any help.

I've noticed the same when encoding. Check the Source Range and see the set start frame and set end frame area. If it is 1 and -1 respectively then I have gotten that same error. To compensate for it I just set a new end frame area. Somewhere towards the end and the file came out just right (with a snippet off the end but..its negligible).

Memento  2002-06-11 00:55:03 ( ID:wgfkssljp/f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I get 0 and -1 respectively in the Source Range...I don't know if that means it's correct.

And going CQ is lowering the file size, but only to 8 Megs, compared to the source file's size of 2.

Why do you want the file to be so small?Mpeg is NOT a system for makeing your files smaller,in most cases it will make your file larger,WMV format is the most compressed format there is so there is NO WAY to make a WMV file the same size as the same mpeg file.WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO??

Memento  2002-06-12 04:17:09 ( ID:wgfkssljp/f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm sorry, I wanted a smaller file so that it wouldn't take up too much space on my website. It's on Geocities so I have limited space (and limited bandwith). It's simply my experience that more people can play mpegs than wmvs with the players they have, so that's why I'm changing it in the first place. I'm already going to zip it...so I guess 8 Megs is reasonable. It's better than 26 Megs, anyway :) I'm sorry, I didn't know mpegs were regularly so much larger. But I appreciate the help.
