I intend to buy aSony camcorder which records to a miniDv cassete.
My intention is some how to convert it to a format that my DVD player will be able to understand (I think vcd or mpeg, any thing else?) and after convertion to burn it to a cd media.
First, is it possible?
what is the format I need to convert to?
how do I do it?
Hi, I do this all the time with my Sony camera. I don't have a DVD burner (yet) but I've made some killer video cd's that play on my set top DVD player.
Do you have a video capture card? With the Sony camera's there are a couple ways to get the video into your PC. One, is with a firewire adapter that interfaces with the little port on the camera that says "iLink". It's actually IEEE1394 (Firewire). The other way is through a standard capture card.
That's where you would want to start. What kind of setup to you have?
I am converting a 700 MB AVI I want to put the converted mpeg on to a CD the completed file is larger than 1 GB is there a way to split the file so it will fit on two CDs
if you go to mpeg tools, you can use the merge and cut option,or before you encode you can use the source range option to encode each half of the movie..
Everywhere I go there's an explanation on how to split the files in half using merge and cut but when they get to that part they don't explain further. They don't explain after you cut it then what, do you save it or whats next ? I have a ful movie in my hard drive and I can't burn it on C.D. because it's too long, Can someone take me further ?
when i download a movie in avi format i can play it with divxplayer and windows mediaplayer.
when i convert it with TMPGenc to mpg i got the movie in good quality but i have no sound.
what can be the problem?
and when i download a movie in mpg format and play in windows media player i hear a scrammbled sound.
P.S i run windows xp
MPEG TOOLS - merge-cut -> edit a file - no preview
when i start tmpegenc, go to mpeg-tools, ADD a movie (mpeg2) and try to edit the file - new mask starts - i can cut and merge, but in the preview window,
i didnt see anything - no preview !
I encoded my first miniDV captured AVI file into DivX format using TMPGEnc v2.5.3. The resulting avi file really looks good and small too. I used a 1 pass de-interlaces, 7 & 2 for my quantizers and 800KB stream.
I tried encoding DivX 2-pass but got a bad quality. Isn't it suppose to be better?
Also, I checked the "make a DivX file". It created a file with a ".divx" extension but I couldn't play it using "The Playa" nor Window's Media player. What gives?
Lastly, is there a way to batch encode these avi's into divx?
Firstly .divx is not a valid media extension so change it to avi.
Secondly to batch encode. Click file then from the menu choose 'Add current project to batch list' and then choose avi from the menu.
Choose your codec and where you want to save the file. This will bring up a box with your project added. Just close the box down and repeat the above steps for each movie you wish to encode then when ready click run in the batch encode box.
HI all,

where am i going wrong ???

I have an divx file that is just under 700 MB and the video is 52 min long, The wizzard shows that i should beable to fit that lenthg of a video on cd but after i converted the file it was twice as big as it was before, any help?
mpeg files don't compress as much as divx movies do, so a 700mb divx file might come out to be 900mb mpeg. Just remember that mpeg files take very lil cpu power, unlike divx files, which take considerably more because of the greater compression. This can be visibly seen on slower comps (under pII).
In the audio tab under settings at the bottom there is a section called audio edit click the setting tab next to it and there you can raise the volume....
I have been using TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc Plus for a couple months now with no problems until yesterday. I have encoded a bunch of avi's to Mpeg1 and Mpeg2 but yesterday I kept recieving an error that my avi's couldn't be opened or were unsupported. So I figured it was just the avi I was trying to encode. But now it seems like every avi I try to encode or even some avi's I have encoded before cannot be opened or are unsupported. It does however open and can still encode Mpeg1 files I have. What's going on? Why all of a sudden is this happening? I read some of the other people's posts and the replies to how to fix this but when I changed the environmental settings and direct show to 2 and the rest to 0 nothing happened. I still end up with the .avi being unsupported. I even tried doing different random high and low prioraties with all the objects in the environmental settings and nothing seems to work. Is this a bug for the versions of TMPGEnc 2.53.35.130 and TMPGEnc Plus 2.53.35.130? Thanks for any help.
I am using Studio av 7 latest version in win2K. Capture card is a DC10+.
The problem I have is that I capture my AVI fine but Tempeng says that cannot open or unsupported file. I have tried to change the priorty in environment setting but to no avail. I was using this setup on the previous version of drivers for the DC10+ and it was working fine.
I have tried to fix by reinstalling windows an taking off all other programs but still does not like the mjpeg files.
I am getting audio fine, but the video is coming out black. I have the latest codec installed, and smr patch, any ideas? It was working fine until i goofed and had to reload window xp and the program.
