Question - converting data dvd's to regular dvd's No.67531
Extemporized1  2013-04-26 05:47:59 ( ID:k6tp.oqvp9o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there a way to convert video shows that I recorded to my Tivo desktop software and burn as data dvd's which can be viewed on my pc's> I want to convert these data dvd's to a normal format I can watch on my home dvd player for viewing on my h-d tv?. My guess is I may need a plugin of some sort that will work with this software. If any of you out there in cyberspace know just what plugins I need please answer my question. All replies of a knowledgeable nature are welcome.

How do you view these data dvd's on your pc? Do you have to use Tivo software to view it? It will all depend on what format the video is in. You can try using MediaInfo to seee what format the video stream is.

Question - How to check & change video/audio levels No.67516
amituofo1818  2013-04-22 02:54:16 ( ID:ptczeb58sqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

The TV station I am submitting my content to said my video & audio levels are out of their acceptable range. I need to make my video level under 100 IRE and my audio level between -12 db & -24 db.

1. How do I check the video & audio level on my file?
2. How do I modify the video/audio level if it is out of range?

I am doing this as volunteer work for a small non-profit that doesn't have the budget to buy any additional software, so I need to use other software can you please suggest any freeware available online that I can use to view/modify the levels if Video Mastering Works 5 can't do it?

Thank you!

It would be nice to have a simple timer when Live capturing from DV/HDV device, in order to avoid filling the hard disk unnecessarily when capturing long programs in unattended mode....

Best Capture DV: WinDV (separate files .avi)

Request - Add video preview when live capturing from (H)DV device No.67511
benoitm  2013-04-15 19:35:18 ( ID:yvwgfnhvwrl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I understand this becomes a low-priority request as IEEE1394 capture quickly becomes obsolete.....but:
It would be nice to have a preview window when (live) capturing from a DV/HDV device. This is a.o. useful to position the pleadhead of a screenless DV/HDV device at the correct (start) position, and to monitor the picture/sound during capture.
In my case, I have a DVB-C decoder/recorder connected to my computer via an analog to DV transcoding device. Whenever I want to transfer video from the DVB-C unit, I have to connect it to an external monitor in order to seek the start point of my capture and see the DVB-C device on-screen controls.
It would be nice to be able to do all this right on the computer, from the TVMW5 capture session.

I would like to apply 2 filters to my video clip -- Smart Sharpness and Picture Crop. Which filter should I apply first to insure the best quality?

Question - Audio not cut/synched when i cut beginning or middle of file No.67468
Henry546  2013-04-02 10:55:58 ( ID:sdwta9ssz2l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am recording a video game playthrough with Fraps and then converting the AVI files to DIVX with Video Master Works 5.

No problem there, but if i take one of the converted DIVX files and then try to cut the first 50 seconds out, the audio does not seem to be synched.

The audio plays as if it started from the original 50 seconds i cut out.

I am using Normal mode and have set the Audio gap to -5000 and -50000 and the audio sounds the same either way.

The same thing happens if i try to take a converted DIVX file and cut out a 20 second block in the middle of the file. The audio does not appear to be cut out of the 20 second block.

Henry546  2013-04-03 08:42:29 ( ID:sdwta9ssz2l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok, I still haven't figured out why I can't get the audio to synch after processing the file a second time, but if i make the edits on the original unconverted file, the audio synchs correctly.

I don't know if there is any way around it, so i re-recorded my original videos and will just do all the processing from the uncompressed file.

The reason i wanted to process it a second time was due to the time involved in originally processing each file. I could process an hour or 2 of uncompressed videos to a smaller size and then come back later to edit them to free up a lot of disk space, which unfortunately doesn't look like i can.

Bug report - Avid QTRef files have 709 color space auto-remapped to RGB No.67455
lalittle  2013-03-26 08:22:44 ( ID:uvofjuppp4o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I import Quicktime Reference (QTRef) files into TVMW5 that were exported from an Avid Media Composer 1080P sequence, TVMW5 is expanding the color space if the QTRef file uses 709 color space. In other words, I import a file with 709 color space (16 - 235)into TVMW5, and the color space is automatically remapped to RGB color space (0 - 255.) QTRef files already in RGB color space are left alone -- only QTRef files using 709 space are expanded. The result is that both 709 QTRefs and RGB QTRefs exported from Avid look EXACTLY THE SAME in TVMW5.

To test the situation I took a sequence in Avid and output two separate Quicktime Reference files from it, one with the original 709 color space (16 - 235), and the second with the color space expanded to RGB levels (i.e. 0 - 255.)

I then viewed the exported QTRef files in Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and Media Player Classic and confirmed that the two QTRef files had different color spaces. As expected, it was quite easy to see that the 709 export had lighter blacks than the RGB export.

I then imported the two QTRef files into TVMW5. Without applying ANY filters, the files appeared EXACTLY the same. The RGB QTRef was left alone, but the 709 export had its color space expanded/remapped to RGB.

The tests confirm that with HD projects, TVMW5 remaps 709 levels to RGB levels.

It's important to note that this ONLY happens with HD content. If I instead export a QTRef from an Standard Def project (which uses 601 instead of 709 space), the remapping/expansion does NOT happen. The 601 color space QTRef from the SD project is NOT auto-expanded to RGB space. This indicates that the issue is either with HD content (vs SD), or with 709 color space (vs 601.)

Thanks for looking into this,

Larry

Question - x264 No.67447
mosquito  2013-03-23 11:45:34 ( ID:2cqro5qyvyk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

with 5.3.1.85 pegasys improved the x264 encoder has problems encoding fade-ins at the start of a video if the video transitions from an all white frame or an all black frame. since this problem disappears after the first few frames of the video, i am assuming this is a bug. but could someone suggest how to decrease these macroblocking artifacts. is it possible to disable mbtree.

Question - How to disable subtitles No.67445
Paul  2013-03-22 13:39:28 ( ID:enb/kds1o2k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an mp4 movie file that needs simple filtering. There is no accompanying SRT file but when I open it in Video Mastering Works 5, bold subtitles appear throughout. Dialogue and descriptive subtitles that I don't want like: "Man coughing", "Dog Barking: Woof Woof".

I normally play videos in Media Player Classic and the subs never appear. The new file I make now has the subtitles.

How can I disable these unwanted subtitles from appearing?

Alex  2013-05-08 06:03:41 ( ID:2xj.eplz7yk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If the subtitles are not "burned-in" the video, try this: Install mkvtoolnix, then open mkvmerge. Drag'n'drop your mp4 file inside. You should see below the video, the audio, and the subtitles. Deselect the subtitles, and create a new mkv file. I don't know Video Mastering Works handles embedded subtitles in a mp4 file, but you could use this new mkv file. There is no quality loss with mkvmerge, it is just a remux to mkv.

Question - Greenscreen? No.67439
Magogan  2013-03-21 18:46:32 ( ID:dowdqsqat5w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I posted this in the German forum too, but it seems a little bit ... deserted there.

My problem is that I want to record a video of me with a greenscreen in the background and want to replace the greenscreen with another video in TMPGEnc VMW5. But I don't know how I can do this ...

Greetings from Germany,
Magogan

I don't think you can. That kind of work usually requires a video studio software, kinda like Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6, Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate or one of Sony's video solutions.

Request - Rotate filter No.67428
Geoff   2013-03-15 23:40:10 ( ID:zocnryjbpqk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can someone advise as to how I can add the 'rotate' action to the default 'filters' template? I am getting tired of having to load the 'rotate' action every time I want to use it!

thanks
Geoff

tkrave  2013-03-19 10:33:25 ( ID:6mmtuqjbdfo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First, go to the filters tab in the cut-editor and load all the filters you usually use or think you will use. Once added, click on the Save Template button below the filter list and save. This saves the list of filters (and also the settings at the time you saved).

Then, exit the cut-editor and go back to the main window. Go to the preferences and then go to Clip editing-->Clip default settings. Under the section "Default filter template", click the browse button and select your saved filter template.

From now on, your favorite filters will load by default and you won't have to select them again.
