TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 BBS [ Sorted by thread creation date ]
Hi,
I have a DVD that was created from an old 4:3 source (video tape). When I import into VMW5 I can see that the black bars at the sides are actually a part of the video, so the software correctly identifies it as 16:9 (interlaced) video.
I would like to encode this as a 4:3 (progressive) video file, and minimize any loss of quality since being from video it is already not great.
What is the best way to remove the black bars? Do I use the "Crop" filter function?
Any tips for keeping the final video as true to the original as possible?
Yes, you'll need to use the crop function to crop out the black bars.
For maintaining quality, I like outputting as MPEG-4 AVC and using the VBR constant quality settings. You can set quality to 100 (the max). Since your source was DVD and you've cropped it, you can probably get away with a pretty low bitrate and still maintain the source's details.
doa fresh install of windows . update and install the codecs ie get ird of the ones you have . and update the recent tmpgenc software you have. chances are its a conflict
I've installed the VMW5 trial as I'm looking for a simple tool to capture home video from my Canon HV30 and convert it something I can use on my PC based media centre.
The software sees my camcorder and is able to capture from it fine, but I have an issue with it stopping the capture seemingly when it detects no video for around a second or so. This mostly occurs on the tape where the camcorder has been powered down/up - i.e. between takes from different days.
The result is I can't leave VMW5 capturing video without babysitting it, as it might get half the way through capturing and then stop. Just hitting the "capture" button again sends it off happily, but obviously not the best solution.
Is there a way to adjust the timeout or sensitivity for loss of video when capturing?
You can try demuxing the file into separate audio and video files, then convert your video stream to the desired format. After that, mux the new video stream with the old audio stream.
Assume there is a simple way for the TMPGenc system to take screenshots of a possible encode result, so I cant compare the result against other encodes of the same vid.
like a place where I put in some frame-numbers, so it takes screenshots of that frame(s) and save it?
After you load a clip, right-click the preview screen and there's an option to save the current frame as an image.
I think if you double-click the timecode area, you can input a specific timecode or frame number.
I purchased this software and it seems to be finicky with certian divx and xvid files as version 4 doesn't have any issues. I can't get a hold of anyone from tech support and was wondering of things I could check or do. With these files all it has is the sound and no video. I have updated my quicktime, xvid, and divx codec and nothing works. I put them in tmpeg xpress 4.0 and they work fine.
What file reader is being used when you open the file? Check the Clip Properties screen. I'm guessing it's using a reader that wasn't in 4.0 XPress, like the Media Foundation reader. You can disable it in the preferences.
With TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress I could set the 'Task count' in the 'Batch encode tool settings' dialog to 2 or more (up to the CPU core count) and that many batch processes would run in parallel, with the remainder displaying "Waiting output turn..." With my newly purchased TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5, with 'Task count' set to 2 in the 'Batch encode tool settings' dialog, only one encoding process runs with the remainder displaying "Waiting for Dolby Digital audio output queue..." Can anyone tell me how to get more than one batch process to run at a time?
