Question - SpursEngine - where to buy? No.58848
rmorris  2009-05-22 16:17:56 ( ID:jwb9ex6f4wm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This SpursEngine plug in looks great to speed up compression from MPEG2 to H.264 which is all I ever do.

Where can you buy one of these devices?? I've been looking all over and I can't find one anywhere, supposed to be Leadtec Winfast... ???

Has anyone bought one?

tkrave  2009-05-22 18:40:29 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Leadtek card doesn't seem to be available in the US yet as far as I can tell.

The Canopus/Grass Valley Firecoder Blu card is available though, just do a search for it on Google. It's a bit pricey at around $500 or so, but I think that's the only one readily available in the US.

The Toshiba laptops that have SpursEngine are only listed on their EU site and not their US site, but hopefully they'll bring them over here soon. They don't use the term SpursEngine though; they just call it a Toshiba quad-core HD processor or a multimedia processor or something like that. See the Qosmio G50 or F50 series laptops.

I have a pxvc1100 on order. I might be able to run a few tests once I get it.

Question - Convert 16x9 to 4x3 without squish or black mask No.58843
R Savetsky  2009-05-20 17:11:30 ( ID:pzxqip70fzn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a mpeg file from sony camera with hardrive I think it was shot Anamorphic 16 x 9 at 740 x480 I can not convert it to AVI without it apearing letterboxed or Squished too tall> how to I convert to 4x3 format keeping center of picture looking normal and cropping sided. I do not want any black sides visable

tkrave  2009-05-20 18:10:14 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don't change any of the clip properties when you add the file.
Use the crop filter to crop the left and right sides so the end result is a 640x480 picture.
When outputting, you can either output it as 640x480 or if you want the output size to match the original, change the size to 740x480 (are you sure it's not 720x480?) and select "Display 4:3" or "Pixel 10:11".

R Savetsky  2009-05-20 22:24:32 ( ID:pzxqip70fzn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are correct its 720x480 but can you be more detailed as I can not seem to get it to work. where do you choose the output size and select 4:3

tkrave  2009-05-21 18:11:06 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sorry, forgot you were outputting to AVI. It will depend on whatever codec you're using on whether or not you'll be able to change the pixel aspect ratio. The only codec I have that actually allows you to alter the pixel aspect ratio is the DivX codec - just select the DivX codec and click on the "Settings..." button to the right of the codec list. A DivX Codec Properties window should open. Click on the Video tab and you can change the pixel aspect ratio; by default, it is set to "Square Pixels".

If you don't want to use DivX, you'll most likely have to output as 640x480 if you want it to be 4:3.

You can change the output size after you select AVI as your output format; it should be set to 640x480 if you cropped the image with the crop filter:

Request - ATI Stream Support Coming? No.58840
Phil86  2009-05-20 00:03:05 ( ID:l7n5c1zcbec )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there any plans to support ATI Stream encoding in the future? ATI,s small converter works wonders but it,s too basic.

NYCGirl  2009-09-09 18:46:28 ( ID:qslklkf7s0f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would like to request the same. I have a Radeon HD 4850. ATI's Avivo Video Converter or GeForce 9500GT's (utilizing CUDA support) hardware based conversion is a lot faster than processor based encoding (with Q6600). I really hope the next revision of TMPGEnc 4.0 Express will include ATI Stream support.

Question - Audio out of sync No.58839
enuffsaid  2009-05-17 22:44:25 ( ID:nm9vod8smaf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello all,

I grab movies off a streaming video site with WM Recorder. I then would like to convert these asf / wmv movies to mpeg using XPress.

The asf / wmv videos play fine with WMP or VLC but as soon as I open them with XPress (Source), and play them through the Cut / Edit menu video stands still for a long time and then starts playing, while the audio plays right away.

I need to add a 5000ms Audio gap correction for the files to play with audio in sync with the video. This happens with ALL movies I've captured. Why does this happen?

Any input would be appreciated.

Request - Support DV Type-1 Files No.58838
kevinm207  2009-05-17 05:30:57 ( ID:t9up.nfojec )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been trying out TMPGEnc 4.0 Express and REALLY like the application. I really need it to support Type-1 (which is the newer type by the way) DV files. The only way I can transfer the full tape (1hr) as a single .AVI file is to choose type 1. If I try to capture/transfer type 2 as a single file I get no audio (Using WinDV). I tried EVERY program out there to convert from Type-1 to Type-2, but they all have the same problem; the audio comes out messed up (has a static hiss to the entire video). So, why doesn't TMPGEnc support Directshow so it can accept Type-1 DV files. VfW is the older format, and a LOT of other apps support Type-1 DV. I just cannot purchase TMPGEnc without this support. This is one of the primary roles I want to use the software for - To take my DV transfers, clip out parts of the video and encode it to h.264 to upload to Youtube, etc... Please help!

Question - CUDA support with mobile Quadro GPUs? No.58833
aesir  2009-05-12 13:25:12 ( ID:0dcj57suriw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Which mobile Quadro GPUs are supported by TMPGEnc? My laptop has a Quadro FX360M with the latest nVidia drivers, and CUDA is greyed-out in preferences...

tkrave  2009-05-13 18:09:06 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do you have the latest version of 4.0 XPress? They're on version 4.7.1.284.

tkrave  2009-05-13 18:17:48 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do you have the latest CUDA driver? Might be different than the driver you have.

aesir  2009-05-14 10:13:56 ( ID:bnlb089gqho )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have the latest TMPGEnc & the latest nVidia notebook drivers 185.85. I see from the link you provided that there are drivers with CUDA in the filename. Aren't the normal nVidia drivers supposed to included CUDA anyways? Why the different driver packages?

Even with the package suggested, CUDA is still greyed-out. Anyone from Pegasys who can comment on which mobile GPUs are supported and which not?

Question - navigate by keyframe on edit screen No.58831
stev03  2009-05-06 03:43:58 ( ID:12fmk33nohm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

could you add a method of navigating the video by keyframe in the cut-edit screen?

for example, in the program "virtual-dub" when you hold down the shift button while dragging the navigation slider, only keyframes are shown, making it much faster

tkrave  2009-05-06 18:26:59 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can navigate just keyframes with the keyboard shortcut [ctrl + left arrow/right arrow] to go to the previous or next keyframe.

You can also just click on a keyframe in the keyframe list to go to that frame in the thumbnail navigator.

Unfortunately, you can't navigate just keyframes when dragging the slider.

Question - CUDA Error No.58830

I am receiving a CUDA error.

:An error occured during the CUDA execution. (cudaError_t=30) {35748B70-CBE7-4484-8CEF-6413CFBA7A58}

This error only happened after I updated to the latest version. CUDA was working fine before I updated.

Request - 5.1 out put No.58822
Bluetac  2009-04-28 22:30:17 ( ID:dioxtdoioxa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Would someone please look into adding support for either dolby digital 5.1 or ac3 5.1 output.
I have asked the question before as have numerous others and never once had a reply to say why you don't support it or even if it i going to be implemented.
You do not make it obvious on your features page that express does not support 5.1 output, in this day and age when 90% of people want to convert a file that contains 6 channel audio it is misleading to give the impression that this product can (in my opinion deliberately so)when in fact it can only handle the input of multi channel audio.

I like many others would not have paid for this product as i for one feel ripped off especially as this product is not cheap!!!

regards
Bluetac

tkrave  2009-04-29 18:47:48 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You probably won't get an official answer here. This forum is just for users helping other users. You need to email them if you want some kind of real response.

In their defense, they don't say that it does do 5.1 audio on the features page, and if you look at the specs, they only list mono and stereo for the audio output (except for WMV, which CAN output up to 7.1 audio). So if you're assuming it can do 5.1 then I don't see how they're to blame. I don't expect them to have a feature listing saying "NEW! Cannot output 5.1 audio!"
How do they give the impression that it can output 5.1 audio?

Nevermind the fact that you could have downloaded the trial version and seen for yourself that it doesn't do it. I don't know about you, but I don't just purchase $100 software without trying it first.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to see 5.1 DD output too, but I guess it doesn't bother me as much since I don't have a 5.1 audio system yet and most of the things I've been converting don't have 5.1 audio to begin with.

Sandra  2009-05-04 09:46:12 ( ID:ivbsgxthdwo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc XPress support for AC3 5.1 output (a simple stream copy - no AC3 5.1 encoding) seems to be something like a Trillian Astra final version - with the difference that nobody thinks about or works on it.

Dear PEGASYS, TMPGEnc XPress is a great peace of software, really... but without a simple AC3 5.1 stream copy feature you could cut off DVD input completely as well. I don't want to use TMPGEnc XPress for my iPod only.

I really hope you will think about this... Bluetac and many, many others are right - absolutely!

Cedric  2009-05-05 04:45:14 ( ID:izvidqa365n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Dear PEGASYS, I just tried TMPGEnc XPress 4.0 and the quality output is great, but yes, 5.1 is a great missing feature that should be there. I'm, and I'm sure there are a lots of people thinking the same way, owner of PS3, Xbox 360, mini pc or other media reader connected to an HDTV with a 5.1 sound system would like to put their movies and tv shows on these media readers.

Think about that, more TMPGEnc XPress selling could happen.

Oh and... I hope the Cuda or OpenCL integration will be better in the future. When encoding a Divx, only 7% of the power of the GPU was used. I'm already using a software that encode mp4 at 40fps of more in 720p(sure you know what software I'm talking about.). :)

Thanks

pwnsweet  2009-05-14 09:51:06 ( ID:mplmkwpdnua )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I agree with the others. TMPGenc Xpress 4 is almost perfect. Support for 5.1 DD support will bring it one step closer to perfection.

On a different note, CUDA support for transcoding (not just filtering) will also bring this wonderful program one step closer to perfection. Badaboom has shown how effective transcoding can be on the GPU, but they don't have the image quality TMPGenc has. Come on guys, give us 5.1 output and GPU transcoding and your little "Nothing else comes close!" slogan will be true!

Modify_inc  2009-05-14 18:11:26 ( ID:qx/gkg9vypa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So what other software that is similar to Xpress can actually do the 5.1?

Benh  2009-05-20 00:23:15 ( ID:kousud0fvwa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Similar to Xpress is no measurement in this case.

Take a look around, most of the video encoding, transcoding solutions can do a direct stream copy of the audio stream -- AC3 5.1 audio stream included.

So I agree with the others. AC3 5.1 audio stream copy is a must have for this kind of software today.

Calvin  2009-06-16 15:40:47 ( ID:dtgo.hr1zwo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes I was very disappointed to not find this feature in this great software as well.

Especially because 5.1 is fully supported in the Authoring Works 4 software.

Question - How to transcode Mpeg2 more than 32mbps No.58820
chandna  Home )  2009-04-28 10:47:59 ( ID:eqqm9uw1g1h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi
In trial version I see that I cant transcode Bluray compliant files more than 32mbps.

Is there any solution to transcode at 40Mbps?
Thanks
Chandna

tkrave  2009-04-29 18:51:35 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It doesn't seem like it. I think it's limited so that the audio and video bitrate combined don't exceed 40MB/s. If you choose Linear PCM as your audio stream format, you can get pretty close to 40MB/s.

Request - Media Center WTV file format conversion No.58816
Clausr  2009-04-24 12:25:28 ( ID:kajar7nding )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is it possible (when will it be possible) to convert the new file format that is used in the new Windows Media Center. The file format is WTV, and not anylonger DVR-MS.
The new Windows Media Center will be available with Windows 7, and can already now also be downloades seperately.
Thanks

kevinm207  2009-05-31 19:42:13 ( ID:t9up.nfojec )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

All you have to do is right click on the new format .wtv file and choose "Convert to .dvr-ms Format." You can then import the newly created .dvr-ms file directly into TMPGEnc.

Hnízdo  2009-06-24 17:11:14 ( ID:luv8god4xzl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Convertion to dvr-ms is not a solution, it's just a waste of time. The software should be able to open wtv files directly - do you plan to implement this feature and when? Thank you, Pavel (satisfied customer)

plegue  2009-08-18 19:06:26 ( ID:stskzjqpdgl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the conversion wtv to dvr-ms is not possible when wtv is H264 container. When is container for mpeg2 the conversion to dvr-ms works but not with H264.
Did TMPEGEnc directly support wtv ??
