How do you use it? I played around with it and it doesn't seem to do anything... I'm trying to FADE OUT the last few seconds of the clip. How exactly do you do that?
I just started to use this TMPGEnc and i think it is great because I was able to convert avi to VCD. However, some of the avi that I convert could only hear sound and I only see blank black screen. Only some of them are like that and others are working fine. I wonder what is wrong. Am I missing a codec or a beta or something. Can anyone please reply to this?? Thanks
In another forum I once read a post from someone stating that:
"TMPGEnc can suffer from a "pulsing" artifact in which every half-second (no doubt related to the I-frame rate) the background appears very slighly brighter momentarily. It does not always happen. It is usually faint and you might not notice it on casual viewing."
Has anyone else noticed this? Is the 5.13 (latest) version affected by this defect?
I have encoded a number of short clips into Mpeg 2 vbr that will not open in edit mode. I get a mesage stating that Direct Show will not open the file. I am eiter missing a plug in or have the wrong one prioritized. I have tried numerous reorganizations but have been unsuccessful. I am using XP Home.
You need a Specific Mpeg2 decoder Installed to edit Mpeg files in Tmpgenc, Either the Cyberlink Decoder or the Ligos Decoder, as direct show can not open Mpeg2 files...The Merge & Cut does not support the accurate editing of VBR encoded Streams anyways so you should use a Real Mpeg2 editor Like "Womble Mpeg2VCR", Editing and Joining VBR encoded Streams in Tmpgenc will usually Cause Sync problems...
I wouldn't recommend setting the minimum setting any lower than 2000kb/s.
The absolute lowest setting you can have without getting any macroblocks in a regular movie is 1800kb/s any lower and you WILL encounter some blockiness.
If your movie is only 1 1/2 hrs long then I think you should get away with setting the slider to 80.
And another Thing is that Most Downloaded DivX Movies have a Very Small Resolution usually something like "352+240" or Something simular, these Files are Not the best to Resize to 720+480 as you will Loose a Lot of the Detail and Crispness Up-sizeing the Resolution that Much..You might Consider depending on the Resolution of the AVI file Useing one of the Other DVD Standards like "352+240/288-pal or 352+480/576-Pal" resolutions, they Might be better to use that the Standard 720+480 resolution, and useing these Lower Resolutions you can use a Much lower Bitrate there for you can get much more on each DVD-/+r...Useing the 352+240/288-Pal resolution I have gotten up to 3 Full movies on a DVD I have even gotten 3 full movies Encodeing to SVCD resolutions and Putting them on a DVD as a Non-Standard DVD....Good Luck...Cheers
How to fix my crack sounD?
When i rec my file into avi format the sound is ok (no crack sound)
but after i convert using tmpge into mpeg vcd format i hear crack sound in some of the part of my video... how to fix it?
How come got crack sound?
Well Try going to "Options" to "Enviromental settings" to "Audio engine" and set the Sample rate converter to "High Quality", and if that doesn"t work then use a Totally seperate encoder to encode the audio to Mpeg1 Layer 2 audio...
I often have more than one inputfile which I need to encode into one mpegfile for dvd. Since I would like to have the average bitrate the same for all parts it takes a bit of trial on error to have it right if one has to encode each inputfile one at a time, even using the batch functionality. I don't think much (tried one) of those avicutter/merger programs. VirtualDub cannot read my files as they have the DV format (camrecorder->firewire->studio8.5).
May be TMPGenc have this merge (AVI input) functionality already and I can't see it ?
Yes it does.
Go to Option>Enviromental setting>General then check the 'Open sequence files as movie' option now number your files in sequence and they should all load in that sequence.
Thanks a lot to Ashy. That's just the job. Tried all sorts, DV-1.avi, DV-2.avi, or xxx-n.avi (where n = 1 or 01 or 001 or 0001).
Of course avisynth2 is a good thing too, but I like to know TMPGEnc can work standalone.
I like TMPGEnc every day a bit more.
Why is it that when i open a particular file in tmpgenc with its default(just dl'd) settings the program says that it is unsupported. But when I change the environment settings the file is able to be loaded and encoded? Just wondering. Would it be possible in a future version for the program to change the environment settings automatically based upon the needs of the particular file?
Or at least let the user know that the file can be converted but that the settings need to be changed? Just having a message come up saying "unsupported file" implies that nothing can be done about it. Even just including a more info button that explains what may be causing the file to not load would be extremely helpful to new users who have just picked up a copy and just figure that they're screwed. I know of many who have had this difficulty with this issue and have had no idea that the file can still be utilized with the proper changes in the environment settings. I'm sure that many just give up and move on to a different program and miss out on all tmpgenc has to offer. But all that aside, I just want to say that you make a truly first-class product. Tmpgenc will be on my desktop (well at least the shortcut) for a long time nad I greatly look forward to future of this program.

The VFAPI Plugins give priority to certain File types depending on how they are configured..And what will work on one File Might not work on the same File on a different computer so haveing the setting configure them selves automaticly depending on the type of file will Not allways Work..and if they do have a Problem all it takes is to come here and Type the Word "Unsupported" in the Search field and you will find the Solution to the problem posted Repeatedly....
When I simple multiplex now I keep getting that packets are getting a buffer underrun. This never used to happen and it doesn't happen all the time. But what is causing this and how do I correct the problem? I am on ver 2.513.
You mean buffer underflow. TMPG usually has this problem with non standard MPEGs. What sort of file are you multiplexing and which setting are you using when multiplexing?
Well I know I allways get the Bufferunder flow error in the Muxer when i encode a File as a Plain Mpeg1 or Mpeg2 file then I try to Mux it as a VCD or SVCD..You see Mpeg1 and VCD and Mpeg2 and SVCD files have Different Packet size and Mux rate so if you try to Mux a Plain Mpeg1 file as a VCD file you will get the error and the Same with Encodeing Mpeg2 files and Muxing as SVCD will cause the error..The way I have Found to Get rid of the error is to Mux the File as a Plain Mpeg1 or Mpeg2 file, then if you do Not get the error in the Muxer then you can Use the "merge& Cut" to add the VCD or SVCD Header as it will Not usually give you a Buffer Underflow error when Muxing Plain Mpeg1/2 files as VCD/SVCD"s...
Yes, does anyone out there have any experience with CDR duplicators? I have an 5 bay CDR duplicator, I have burned/copied VCDÃÅ but they seem to always have the color blocking, I have tried adjusting the read speed, and write speeds to no avail, can anyone help?
all of them, 8x 10x 16x 32x 48x, i am using 90min cdr which do not report a manufacturer with cdr dianogstic, they are silver on top and green on the bottom. Thanks Ash

Well first of all your disks may not be compatible with some DVD players, but your problem is most likely your burn speed.
VCD/SVCD need to be burned at low speed or you will get errors on the disk and to be honest 8x is too fast. Usually 4x is the best speed, but you may get away with 6x. Usually any higher and you will run into problems.
The burn speed also depends on the disk and to some degree the DVD player (Ignore the crap they put on CDR's about being compatible for high speed burning). Some disks will let you burn at faster speeds than others without problems. The best that I have found are Ritek disks. Usually under the DATASAFE brand, but watch out for crappy Prodisc under the same name.
As for the disks you are using they sound like very cheap ones. I have used something similar myself and ALWAYS had problems with them.
Thanks Ash, I was kinda thinking the same things you were saying. I quess i will have to cough up a little more cash for the riteks. By the the i forgot to mention with the disk i was using burning at higher speeds did reduce the blocking. Damn i hope the riteks solve the problem!. Thanks again Ash for the good information.
I have a pal mpg file (352x288 25hz) I can use window media player, powerdvd ... etc. to play the file but I cannot open the file using tmpg. It gave me an error " cannot open or unsupported ..."
I am trying to convert the file to ntsc format and burn vcd for use by a standalone dvd player. Please help.
Thanks.
Is it MPEG1 or MPEG2? If it's MPEG2 you need a MPEG2 decoder installed.
Secondly you can't convert from PAL to NTSC with TMPG It won't do it correctly. You will encounter playback artifacts.
Your list will probably not look exactly the same but try making the changes and see if it works for you
I pretty much never have any problems opening a file after making these changes to a newly installed version of tmpgenc. with the normal settings about a quarter of my files wont load. Good luck
