Hi, I've used Convert DVD to convert a DVD to VCD (MPEG1) but when i play it back there is a combing effect during rapid motion, I've tried to use the de-interlace option in TMPEG but none of the filters totally remove it..

any ideas

You should not be getting any Interlaceing Problems if you are encodeing to Mpeg1 because Mpeg1 is Not interlaced,It is Progresive, and the Deinterlace Filter should get rid of any Interlaceing Problems, Usually either the Even Field or Odd field Setting works Well for me...You say you are useing something called "ConverToDVD" to convert a DVD to VCD and I assume that this Program uses Tmpgenc as it"s encoder??? If this is so maybe you should use the Proper Way of Turning a DVD into a VCD, those automated Program never seem to do it Right, if you do all of it Manually you will Get a Better result and you will Learn more...Most poeple Will Rip the DVD to there Hard drive with SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter, then use "DVD2AVI" to Make a D2V Project file for frameserveing and a Wav audio file, then load the D2V file into Tmpgenc and the Wav file for the audio then load the VCD template and encode it, This method is allmost allways Flawless, there should be a Guide on the Proper way to make a VCD at "http://www.dvdrhelp.com/".......good Luck

Is this a PAL movie or NTSC? If it's NTSC you probaly need to IVTC the source file. The best way to do this is to use the ForcedFILM option in DVD2AVI or TMPG's IVTC filter.
If it's a PAL movie then it is likely one of the notorious PAL movies with 24:1 pulldown. These movies are hell because it seems impossible to completely remove the interlacinfg artifacts. Using the double deinterlace filter seems to give the best results in TMPG, but it also makes motion slightly blurry.

AVIsynth's decomb filter is supposedly able to remove the 25th frame which causes the problem returning the movie back to a 24 fps progressive movie, but I have never been able to get it perfect but have got acceptable results.

hi its my first time in the cool world,i have lots of divX films and since i figure out were that we can use Svcd do run in dvd players i started reading about converting divx films ,now im stuked in 1 problem,i used dvd2ssvcd with tmpgenc to convert a film,when tempenc starts ,he says time remaning 20:00 hours..... its that normal?
or what im doing wrong.

The encodeing Time Depends on the Settings you use in the "Motion Precition Search" and the Resolution of your File,The amount of filters you use and Most of all the Speed of your Computer..You should never set the "Motion Precition Search" to "Highest Quality(Slow)" because this will just make the encodeing take to long with no real Quality improvement over "High Quality"..and any System under say a 1.0ghz CPU is going to take a Really long time to encode, I use a 2.53ghz P-4 CPU and it takes me about 3-5 hours to encode a Full movie to SVCD, so it could take up to 20 hours if you only had a 1ghz CPU and useing "Highest Quality" will make it take twice as Long as usual....

Encoding properly simply takes a long time -- there's no short-cut if you want good quality. However, 20 hours sounds much too long. Here are some ideas that might save a little time:

-- Did you set "Motion Search Precision" to "highest quality"? This is extremely slow and almost always unnecessary. Try the next setting ("high quality"). You'll save a lot of time, and almost nobody spots any difference in quality.

-- Do you have any other programs running? Shut down absolutely everything else first. Anti-virus, screen-savers, internet connections....everything.

-- Do you have an old PC? If the PC has a slow processor, you may have to live with slow encoding.

Finally, the estimated time shown by TMPGEnc is sometimes too high. I use 2-pass VBR coding, and the actual processing time is usually about 20-25% shorter than the initial estimate.

Does Tmpgenc allow Anamorphic option for both analog(4:3) and digtal wide television(16:9)?

Every direction I turn leads to a dead end. Now that I FINALLY have the audio and video together into one file that is about 720 MB I want to put it on a DVD disc, but there are problems. My avi file is at a rate of 23.983 fps and I don't know how to change the fps setting. This is really gay. Maybe I shouldn't depend on this product or any in that matter, because none of them are full versions. Any help would be greatly appreciated and don't say buy the full version, because I'm only 16 and don't have a job or enough money to pay for the full versions. How do I get this lousy file onto a DVD at 23.983 fps?

OK..This is Pretty Easy, Look for a Little Program called "DoPulldown" you can get it here : http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtils/DoPulldown.1.0.0.0.zip
This Program does a Proscess called 3:2 Pulldown on your 23.97fps file, and will convert it so that it will play at 29.97fps and you will be able to Burn it to DVD after you have authored it with Your DVD authoring program...But the next time you encode a 23.97fps file in Tmpgenc you should use the "23.97fps(29.97fps Internally)" Frame rate setting, this will do the same thing as DoPulldown....

But if I convert to 23.967 fps the audio/video sync goes out. i need to use a fps of 23.983 don't I? thanx

that website url doesn't work. there is no program there called dopulldown. any other links that you know of? and how do you author a DVD. is that built in to th dvd burning program? Say SonicDVD for instance. thats what I have. will the audio still be in sync with the video(23.983 fps) if i change the fps to 23.97(29.97 internally)?

Hi, Well the Link Just worked for me, But I use FlashGet to download, Just go to "Google" and Type in "DoPulldown" and there are LOTS of Hits and you should be able to download from one of those sites..There will be No audio Sync Problem if you use "DoPulldown" or if you use the "23.98fps(29.97fps Internally" setting, If you do Not know the Proscess of "3:2 Pulldown" to Turn 23.98fps Progressive into 29.97fps Interlaced then theck this out: http://www.zerocut.com/tech/pulldown.html ....it explains The Proscess of 3:2 Pulldown and the Differance between Interlaced and Progressive frames, It is a Must read if you want to get into Digital Video and DVD Authoring...

I have 2 AMD MP 2000+ XP with Mother Board GA-7DPXDW-P - Win XP Pro and THE BEST TMPGenc 2.5.11.

When I encode any divx movie, the audio is corrupt. It appears to be "intermittent", not linear. Why this?

Well I know that 2.511 has a Bug in it haveing to do with the "Hyper Threading", Maybe this is your Problem, Try upgradeing to the Newest version "2.512" as the Bug has been Fixed....

but I had mistake! In fact I am use the newest version 2.5.12 also.
Now, in some cases the audio appears corrupt as I had show before, so, what is the best solution about your suggestion "Hyper Threading"? Tell me more details to set TMPGenc to work fine with 2 cpu AMD MP.

There is Probably a Work around for your Problem, Like if you are Makeing DVD"s with Wav audio then you can Try extracting the Audio First then Just encode the Video after, You can do this Just by Loading in your File and going to "file" to "Output to" then to "Wav" and it will Extract the audio to Wav format, then in the "Stream type" setting choose "Video Only" and encode it ,this will Just leave you with a M2V video file, then you author it to DVD like usual..If you are Makeing VCD or SVCD you can Just load in your File then choose "Audio Only" under "Stream Type" then configure the audio in the audio settings the way you want, then click "Start" and it will encode a "MPA" audio file, then set the "Stream type" to "Video only" and encode just the Video then you can Mux them together with the Mpeg tools....

I have a 23.976 (NTSC - 720x480) progressive cartoon avi file. I would like to MPEG-2 and later author it to DVD.

I would like the DVD to playback:
1 - Interlaced on a regular TV (To avoid the flicker)
2 - Progressive on a HDTV

From my research, I found this is what the movie studios do. A typical DVD movie will play back progressive on an HDTV and interlaced on a regulat TV.

What settings in TMPGEnc would I use to encode?

I was thinking I should set the Encode Mode to "3:2 pulldown when playback" with a Frame Rate set to "23.976 (internally 29.97)". Is this correct?

Useing the "23.97fps(29.97 internally setting)" should add 3:2 Pulldown to the header of the file so that your DVD Player Plays it as Interlaced 29.97fps, But I wouldn"t know what HDTV would do as I know very little about it, You can also encode it as 23.97fps and use a Little Program called "Pulldown.exe" to add the 3:2 Pulldown, This is how a Lot of Poeple ass 3:2 pulldown instead of useing the "23.97fps(29.97 internally setting)".....

I want to convert a karaoke video, but I DO NOT want to omit the vocals part. The original video have the vocals, but once I convert it to MPEG, the vocals are gone. Any solutions?

You have to Rip and Convert the Subtitles of the DVD.
Ripping can be done by SubRip. Subtitling the Video can be done by VirtualDub and VOBSub or Subtitler (Filters).

I was able to convert it once, though, using TMPGENC only and the vocals were intact. I then tried doing it again, and I can't. What could I be doing wrong (or right)?

Normally I use avi2svcd to resize with bicubic resize option. Now I'd like to use just avisynth script and tmpgenc to encode.

Here is my question.

If I have 608x320 avi file and I want to keep same screen rate, I have to resize vertical resolution to 252(so 480:252) and pad up and down margin 114 each.(I did this way)

So this is my avisynth script resulted.

Try this:

or this:

BicubicResize(480,352,0,0.6,0,0,596,320)
AddBorders(0,64,0,64)

Or this:

BicubicResize(480,336,0,0.6,0,0,608,320)
AddBorders(0,72,0,72)

One of these 3 Part-Scripts will do it right. Which one depants on the Source which has an incorrect Aspect Ratio.

I personally use the "SimpleResize.dll" because it is a very Fast resizer and it is easy to use you just have to use " simpleresize(480,252) ...But you can allways do this in Tmpgenc by going to "Video arrande Method" and set it to "Center custom size" and to "480+252", This would be much faster than useing AVISynth to resize because it seems that your Source is a AVS file so you are sort of Double frameserveing...

This calculation is wrong.
The easiest way would be to load the original AVI into Gordian Knot and use it's resizer to adjust the size to compatible SVCD format then just load the .Avs file it creates into TMPG.

Also your source is not true 16:9 it's a few pixels short.
trues 16:9 would be 608x304 NTSC or 608x336 PAL.

Secondly the calcultion you are making for the vertical resolution is using 480 as the horizontal resolution. With SVCD the horizontal resolution will be stretched to 704 so you should use 704 when calculating your vertical resolution.
This would mean to create a correctly sized aspect ratio you would use a resolution of 480x352 for NTSC and 480x384 for PAL with the rest being padded up to 480(NTSC) or 576(PAL) by borders. Which means in your case you should resize to 480x352 and have 2 borders which are 64.

Like KIKA says your source has an incorrect aspect ratio but the settings he gave in the middle should be close enough however you could correct this by altering the vertical resolution to 320 and then adjusting the borders accordingly to give you the correct frame size.

I have been using TMPGEnc for about 9 months now, and for the first 7 didn't have any problems. In the last 2 however, when I convert an MPG to AVI it will run fine until the very end (under 3 sec. to go, maybe when trying to close the file). This happens about 3/4 the time. I've tried to encode to Divx5, MS MPEG-4, Huffyuv, and Divx :) MPEG4-fast (or slow) motion, all with the same results.

I have a P4 2GHZ, 512Meg, using WinXP and TMPGenc 2.59 through 2.511
These crashes have caused a total lock-up of the system and on restart system is can be unstable. Once my HD lost all file structure and partion info.

I'm not sure where to look for the problem, any help would be provided.

I asked this recently but didnt receive any replies, so I'm trying again. It's certainly one of the stranger TMPGEnc problems I've seen.

I've been using TMPGEnc for a long time, this is the first time I've seen something like this. I'm converting an average quality MPG to NTSC VCD MPG.

When the conversion was complete, both files showed the same length (20 minutes) and had the same beginning and end scenes. BUT, the VCD file was smaller than the average quality original, making me suspicious. It turns out a huge chunk of the middle of the video was MISSING from the VCD version.

I checked in settings to confirm that I hadnt set TMPGEnc to only encode a certain time frame. Everything is fine there, it's set to encode the entire video.

I'm lost, any suggestions will be appreciated.

Well I don"t know what it can be, But through a Little bit of Deductive reasoning you can find out if the Problem lies in Tmpgenc or in your AVI file, If this is the Only file that behaves like this then it would seem that the Problem is just with this File, and if it is then there is Probably something wrong with it, which is Probably the case especially if it is a Downloaded file, as Downloaded files are easilly corrupted...You can try useing "Virtual Dub" to make a Copy of the file and see if that helps or use It to "Frameserve" the File to Tmpgenc which would be your Best bet to try...

How do I make a divx movie into a mpeg for adobe premiere? I tried to do it on the tmpgenc and it says 100% complete but then i can't find it on my computer. It makes it .mcf file not mpeg. What do I do, I have no idea? please help

What do you mean "For Adobe Premier"?? All you have to do Is Follow the steps in the Wizard and when you get the the last stage of the wizard remember were your file is going to be...OR, You can just load in your File then click the "Load" button and navigate to the VCD Template of your Choice and Double ckick it..Now just Press "Start" and it should encode, The "MCF" File is a Template file, you would only get one of these if you Saved a Template...
