Minion  2003-05-12 21:03:47 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Mov files have allways been supported in Tmpgenc, You need the QT Mov vfapi Plugin for Tmpgenc to accept the Mov files, you can download the Plugin in the "Tools" section at "www.dvdrhelp.com"...

Question - Is it just me of does dvd2avi 1.77.3 no longer work with Tmpgenc No.36839
Madtechnician  2003-05-12 12:06:00 ( ID:djn.03fs6rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just upgraded to 2.511 only to find that it is unable to open D2V files when using the VFP file that comes with dvd2avi 1.77.3 if i use the one that shipped with 1.76 all is fine. Anyone else experience this???

chris  2003-05-12 21:00:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You shouldn"t have a Problem as I have used the 1.77 version before without a Problem, Make sure that the DVD2AVI.vfp Plugin shows up in the Vfapi Plugins..But if you can"t get it to work then just use the 1.76 version, There is No advantage useing 1.77 over 1.76, because it is newer don"t mean it is better....

Ashy  2003-05-14 00:45:44 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Copy DVD2AVI.vfp into your TMPG folder.

Ashy  2003-05-14 00:47:50 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Also remember 1.77.3 is NOT compatible with Smartripper d2v files. 1.77.3 only works with it's own d2v files.

Madtechnician  2003-05-14 12:26:21 ( ID:djn.03fs6rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't use smart ripper and am currently not converting Box but SVCD mpgs created using VCDGear 2.511 will also no longer open these mpegs. even though 2.59 does and they are both running on the same pc with the same settings and codecs availible to them.

Question - stuttery or jerky video, sound ok No.36837
harry  2003-05-11 21:01:20 ( ID:ffpz1/7/9eh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when i have encoded from avi to dvd the picture quality is very good but will stutter in parts. The sound carrys on as normal. Is there a setting to change to help this problem.Have raised direct show to 1.

Minion  2003-05-11 21:31:18 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Jurkey Video is usually from one of 3 things, (1) You have either encoded the AVI File to the Wrong Frame rate, You have to encode the File to the same Frame rate as the AVI file, so if the AVI File has a Frame rate of 25fps then the mpeg file has to have 25fps..or (2) You have the set Wrong field order, this will Give a studering effect when the Camera Pans or there is a Lot of movement on the screen..(3) You are experienceing Bitrate spikes, But this usually would not be a Problem with DVD Files...

Question - subtitles No.36833
frank  2003-05-11 20:55:55 ( ID:sro//8ua1vw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there a way to remove subtitles from a video?

Minion  2003-05-11 21:26:26 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If the Subtitles are Part of the Video then the Only way to remove them is to Cut them out, you can use the "Clip Frame" settings for this....

frank  2003-05-11 22:09:30 ( ID:sro//8ua1vw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

how do i do this? Will this leave blank spots in the movie?

Minion  2003-05-12 01:45:48 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

NO..I guess you Didn"t understand what I meant By Cut them out, You cut Off the Bottom of the Screen were the Subtitles are Displayed, You do this By useing the "Clip Frame" setting in the "Advanced" settings..You click the "Settings" Button, then you go to "Advanced" then you Double Click "Clip Frame" and there are a Bunch of settings there that you can use to Clip off the Bottom of the screen, it is Very easy to figure out even a Monkey can do it ...

Question - Version 5.11 hangs No.36827

Version 5.11 hangs during encoding, say after 300MB of successful encoding. It never happened with older versions. Anyone making the sam expereince?

Minion  2003-05-11 21:24:58 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does this Happen with every File you encode or Just a Certain File?? As the Problem is probably with the File as opposed to the new version of Tmpgenc...

Proch  2003-05-12 18:26:16 ( ID:2hxxemsxtp. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do you by any chance have multiple CPUs or a Hyperthreading CPUs? I've been having hang problems too since I upgraded to 5.11. As a workaround, I've been turning off multithreading.

Vlad  2003-05-13 12:29:22 ( ID:g6aly3ubcq2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The same. It either freezes somewhere in the middle of the encoding (at different places) or pops up a message box "Read error at address xxxx". I have single AthlonXP CPU, nevertheless playing with the settings did not help. I use the program to convert PAL DV to PAL VCD.

>Does this Happen with every File you encode or Just a Certain File?? As the Problem is probably with the File as opposed to the new version of Tmpgenc...

It may hang with different files. Strange enough: If I restart the encoding a couple of times, the encoding may finally succeed.
(I do frame serving with Avisynth 2.08 and dvd2avi *.d2s project file)

Windows XP home. Single CPU. Hyperthreading: not as I know.

Question - AVI 23 frames to SVCD PAL 25 frames? No.36823
FourthPlanet  2003-05-10 19:25:04 ( ID:f2nze8xasvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a DIVX AVI with 23 frames/sec.

I tryed to convert it to normal SVCD PAL (25 frames/sec) with TMPGenc Wizzard (CQ 75).
After TMPGenc was finished, i took a look on the result and every second 2 frames were repeaten. So the Movie can be only watched when i'm drunk enough for a enless repeat of 2 frames every second...

Is there an option to fix that and to keep audio/video sync?

thx and so long folks...

Minion  2003-05-10 21:27:14 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your File is Probably 23.97Fps not 23fps..There are a Few ways to go about this, you can use AVISynth to frameserve the file to Tmpgenc and get AVISynth to Change the Framerate, you Can encode your File to 25fps in Tmpgenc and just check the "Do Not Frame Rate Convert" setting in the Advanced Tab, But this will Make your Audio out of sync Because the Video will Be about 4% Shorter, so you would have to use a audio editor Like Cool edit or Sound Forge to shrink the File by about 4% or to the exact same length as the Video then when the audio has been adjusted you encode it to mpeg audio and then mux it with the Video..And the last option is to use a Program that can Do a Proper NTSC/Pal conversion like Procoder, or many Video editing apps can do it well also like Vegas Video 4 and Premier, either way you decode to do it you will need a Pretty Good understanding of How video works and how to use the Various Software....good Luck

FourthPlanet  2003-05-11 13:20:45 ( ID:f2nze8xasvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

THX for the horror-scenario ;) .

1) Yes, you'r right, the fps is 23.9... not 23... means ntsc-film.
2) Ever heard of DVD2SVCD Bundle? Just check as input AVI, check the NTSC2PAL box, click on Go and after some hours i got a fine PAL SVCD with 25 frames and synth audio without double frames every second.

so long...

Minion  2003-05-11 21:22:34 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes DVD2SVCD uses AVISynth, Which is one of The Methods I outlined above...

Question - Jagged Edges in MPEG1 WinMedia No.36820
Mihai  2003-05-10 19:23:44 ( ID:facnvbnkuvl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

I'm compressing MPEG1 for CD-ROM at 320x240 using deinterlace. Tried different source files (720x480 DV) or (640x320 Uncompressed) and the result has jagged edges around figures. If i double the size in Windows Media 200% everything looks good. I found some other MPEG1's on the Internet that look fine at the same size. So must be a compression issue. I have tried all combinations of aspect ratio, field order, etc..

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Minion  2003-05-10 21:17:13 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First off there is No need to use the De-Interlace when useing Mpeg1 because Mpeg1 is Progressive..And I think the Jagged edges thing is a Media Player Problem, I get the Same effect when useing it to watch files but not when I use other Players like "Power DVD", I notice I get the Jagged edges when watching in a Small Window But in a Big window they disapear...

Ashy  2003-05-14 00:58:41 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

320x240 always looks crap with jagged edges on the PC no matter what software you use. The effect wasn't so bad in Win98/Me, but in XP it just look awful.
I suppose it also has to do with your graphics card too and how good it's antialiasing features are.
I have a now dated NVIDIA TNT2 which aint too good at antialising.
These sort of MPEGs usually look a lot better in the DVD player and don't have jagged edges.

Question - DVD from AVI w/ VBR PCM Audio Problem??? No.36818
Gas_Hed  Home )  2003-05-10 15:15:29 ( ID:yuuun2zh8cf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I'm capturing videos at PAL DVD resolution, and when I encode the files in TMPGEnc using Full DVD Resolution with VBR Linear PCM Audio, when it is finished I get 2 files - .m2v and .wav

Is this normal, i tried to multiplex them but that is not allowed. How do I get these files to a DVD??? I dont have a burner yet, but I am capturing the videos now to save me doing it later.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Luke

Ashy  2003-05-10 17:20:17 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes that's correct.
You need a DVD authoring program. You cannot just burn MPEG files to DVD like a VCD. They need to be authored into the correct format first.

Question - Voice problems No.36815
Jake  2003-05-10 08:07:56 ( ID:xsmtimuigla )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i have around 25 movies i downloaded from imesh. Now i have this voice problem with them. they work fine as long as i do not cut them to make a VCD . I have almost all the codec installed on my PC. They are all in different formats AVI, Divx, Xvid. First i use Easy Video Splitter and cut them into 2. then i use Nearo and make a vcd. But when i play them... There is a problem of VOICE.. Its either ahead or late.. The man comes and goes and then the voice comes....:( What do i DO ???? Plssss Any 1 knows what should i do ? It took me ages to download the movies.. Cant simply hit the delete KEY... HELP SOMEONE !

Ashy  2003-05-10 10:12:35 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you encoding with Nero or TMPG?
Are you cutting before encoding?
My advice is to encode first with TMPG then use the Merge&Cut tools to cut the MPEG afterwards and then use Nero to burn the disk(not encode)

Minion  2003-05-10 10:33:20 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There can Be a whole Bunch of reasons why you are Haveing sync problems..From What I get from your Post is that You do not even use Tmpgenc at all because you say that you cut your AVI files with One Program(Xvid, and DivX are all AVI) then use use Nero to Make the VCD ,which I understand as you are Useing Nero to encode your Files and Not Tmpgenc, Nero sucks for Encodeing to VCD/SVCD so Don"t use it and Maybe try NOT editing your Files before encodeing and load your AVI File into Tmpgenc and choose the Correct VCD Template and encode it to VCD then use the "Merge & Cut" to Edit the VCD/Mpeg1 files...I hope you Know that Downloaded Movies aren"t really very Good For Makeing VCD"s out of as they are Usually corrupted to some degree and Have Non-Standard Audio Formats Resolutions and Framerates, the Best way to make VCD/SVCD/DVD"s is to Get a DVD-Rom and to make VCD/SVCD/DVD"s out of them...

Free talk - How to use SVCD resolution MPEGs in TMPG DVD author No.36811
Ashy  2003-05-10 01:50:39 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok I think I have a solution to using out of spec MPEGs such as 480x480 or 480x576 with TMPG DVD author.

You will need an exact copy of the MPEG you wish to use then use DVD patcher to patch one of them to 720x576. Import this one into TMPG. When it comes to the menu's and chapters select the unpatched MPEG(480x576 or 480x480). This then prevents the problem of the green bar at the right hand side of the menu and the squished images.

Then just continue and create the VOBs as normal.

After authoring don't forget to patch just the main VOBS back to 480x...

SatDVD  2003-05-10 05:49:50 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks great tip, I found with 480x480 SatTV material, I had to patch it to DVD specs to import, then patch to 544x480 to edit the chapter pictures.

Also, found no need to patch back to the original resolution, it plays fine in a Sony DVD player and with PC apps.

SatDVD  2003-05-10 06:34:33 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Even better, you don't need 2 copies.

Just patch to DVD specs to allow the import,
then patch right back to the source resolution.

Everything works as expected, thumbnails, etc.

Ashy  2003-05-10 09:57:21 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes you're absolutely right.
I did actually try this, for some reason it didn't seem to work, but I was patching the entire file.
You only need to patch it for the import then patch it back for the menus.
You don't need to patch the entire file just the headers and it's works as you say, there is no need to patch the output again as DVD author automatically adjusts it to the right resolution in the output. Everything plays fine.

Question - Audio Setting Application Hang??? No.36809
Flipside  2003-05-09 13:20:20 ( ID:881udasmkyf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I am making an NTSC Video CD from an avi File w/ the stats:
(Video=602 Kbps, 24.0 fps, res. 448*272 (16:9), MP43 = MS MPEG4 V3)
(Audio=96 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 chan., 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3)
and I use the expert>audio tab>Use audio edit>Change Volume setting up to 130% to 150% the TMPGenc just freezes when it's only about 20% complete. Some avi files will work ok with this setting but others just keep making it hang. When I change the settings to not use the audio edit>Change Volume the file will work without any problems. Is this a bug or some kind or pilot error that I'm not aware of???
Thanks,
FLIPSIDE

Question - DVD widescreen ??? No.36806
AndrewB  2003-05-09 01:09:18 ( ID:tz8nzzv6lho )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

She you will be obeyed has now decided that this DVD I'm trying to produce for her family in the USA (from a PAL DV source) is fine so far (and many thanks to B_Racer, Minion, Ashy and others for their help so far) but it should be in widescreen format ...

I tried to tell her that either (a) I'd have to cut off her head and feet or (b) make her even shorter and fatter than she already is ... I think she thought I was joking but she says it has to be widescreen DVD ...

Except 2.511 only seems to have DVD PAL & NTSC and not film templates ... can anyone tell me the correct settings for PAL or NTSC widescreen for a fully compliant DVD - because they'll be BIG TROUBLE if Auntie Elsie in Chicago finally gets her DVD and it doesn't work ...

Don't you sometimes wish they'd never invented computers or non-linear editing LOL :-)

Minion  2003-05-09 02:19:16 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well Makeing it Widescreen Will Probably Make things Look a Bit Squished But Most poeple Do not even really notice if it isn"t too Bad, They do it all the time when Broadcasting movies on TV..Well you Should do some tests, Go to the "Clip Frame" settings and Play with the "Video Arrange Method" Custom Size" settings and the Clip Frame settings and try to Get it to look the Way you want, and Try useing the 16:9 aspect ratio setting and see if that helps also, Do a Bunch of test encodes of a Minute or so each with Different settings and save the settings as templates and you can burn the test encodes to a RW and see how they look on TV..Aspect Ratios aren"t my expertise I basicly use what looks right...

B_Racer  2003-05-09 12:20:04 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It depents on the Source. Is it Letterboxed (with Black Bars) or is it anamorphic?
Whatever it is, you can use the AVISynth-Script from the other Thread, but the Output-Options ar different.
But i never tried a PAL->NTSC-Konversion with widescreen video, so i'm not sure about the correct settings.
