When I try to convert an audio stream of a MPEG 2 file ( 44khz to 48khz ) I get an error :

Since I don"t read German I can"t tell you how to fix the error But You can try De-Muxing the audio from the Mpeg and useing something else to Change the sample Rate like "Headac3he"...

I have an XVID Divx, 640 x 256(2.5 to 1) at 23.976 fps.

What should I set the aspect ratio to for this film? It will be kept
at wide screen format. Should I unlock and manually set these to the above
resolution?

Why is the default always set at 1:1 when loading files?
Isn't this for showing on a computer?

There are other settings for 4:3, 16:9, 2.11:1 towards the bottom of the
drop down window. Are these for something special?

1:1 is not the Default Aspect Ratio it is Probably the aspect ratio of the File you are loading into it...Tmpgenc analizes the source file for the aspect ratio and set"s it accordingly.it isn"t allways right though..do a Few Test encodes of a few seconds to see what one looks the way you want it to, But don"t use Media Player to view the Mpeg file cuz it doesn"t play the file with the correct aspect ratio...

after encodeing from dvd format to vcd mt computer locks up and i have to reboot any suggestions on how to fix this problem

So is this an AVI File you are encodeing or a Mpeg or other Format??? You say this happens at the End of the Conversion?? does it only happen with high resolution files??? and the Encoded Files OK after it locks up???

please bare with me i am new at this I am converting i file that i digitized from my vcr in mpeg2 format. when i convert it to a mgep 1 format it run until the conversion is done and then lock my machine up I have to reboot (power off) my computer. the converted file runs fine. so any ideas why my computer locks up?

got a black screen trying to go from divx to mpeg, and then downloaded the codecs for divx, but they do not appear in environmental settings.

will the raising the direct show up to 2 detect these codecs?

or am i totally lost :)

Codecs Do NOT appear in the Enviromental settings, only VFAPI Plugins do, and Yes raiseing the Direct Show to "2" Can help Tmpgenc connect to the Codecs you have installed so tmpgenc can decode the File..

Well first Make sure that there is audio in the WAV file..and if there is then Just load in the Wav file then go to the Audio settings and there you can listen to see if tmpgenc is reading the audio, if it does you just have to encode it to Mpeg audio and Mux it with the Video you allready have encoded, but if for some reason tmpgenc still can"t read the wav audio go to the "Vfapi Plugins" and Raise the Wav file readers priority and see if that helps, and if for some reason that doesn"t work then use a different program to encode the audio to Mpeg audio like Headac3he.....

I just did a fresh install of Windows XP from a 98SE OS. I can no longer load avi files, get the old unsupported messages. I have raised the direct show and DVD2AVI priorities with no results. I noticed that XP Service Pack 1 retail version OS no longer includes the Ligos codec, my previous OS had this codec, and I see it is no longer installed in TMPG. Could this be the reason why my AVI's aren't loading?

I see you now have to buy the Ligos codec, I don't want to make the investment if it's not going to solve the issue. Hey do you think it's extractable from my old 98SE disk?

Have you installed all the proper Codecs so Tmpgenc can decode the AVI files???and Don"t install Media Player 9, this will cause Problems like this..And the Ligos Mpeg2 decoder is Free..I"m sure ALL of you Problems will be solved if you install a Codec Pack like Nemo or Tsunami and Both of these Codec Packs have the Ligos Decoder and NO the Ligos Decoder has Nothing to do with AVI Files it Just decodes Mpeg2 files..

Do I just install the codecs to Windows program files or do I need to install them into TMPG. IF I need to install to TMPG is there any special method I need to use or just install them to the main TMPG folder in a fashion similar to the VFAVI file (dvd2avi.vfp)

I will also try unistalling Media Player 9. Do you know why there are conflicts between these two applications?

I keep hearing about problems with Windows Media Player9.0. I have had it since almost day one. Most of my friends have had problems with it because they needed to update their video display drivers or they have not upgraded Direct X to 9.0 also.

I have been in contact with someone from the Windows Update Web site and he said that there is a Problem with WMP9 and some older Mpeg-4 codecs and there will be a Fix for it on the Windows update web site some time in the near future...And No you don"t install the Codecs in Tmpgenc you have to install them in your Computer, Download a Codec Pack like Nemo or Tsunami and you will have Most of the codecs you will ever need and you will have the Ligos Mpeg2 decoder...

So I'm trying to simply convert an AVI I made with Quicktime Pro to mpeg and it of course told me I need to set the window height and width to 8x8 or a multiple thereof. Fine. Says something similar here on the FAQ. Now how would I go about doing this? Can't find the option....

With Tmpgenc you should usually use the project wizard since you don't seem to have a lot of knowledge about this.

If you want though without the project wizard click on the SETTINGS of the file and I usually use a 352X240 setting and never have any problems for VCD this is the usual setting tmpgenc assigns when using the project wizard.

Make sure if you have to clip/crop the movie make sure you use KEEP ASPECT RATIO from the pull down menu because a lot of people and myself have made the mistake of using full screen and this usually makes the aspect ratio mess up.

It will usually make the people in the movie look tall/stretched LOL.

It would help to know what the frame rate is.

Yes it is Possible But It would be hard to tell you how to do it without Knowing what frame rate the AVI file was captured to..You can make it run at normal speed without encodeing it, you can use a Little Program Called "Avi Frame rate converter"(Or something like that) that will change the Frame rate that the AVI file plays at, so if say the AVI file is 30fps and Plays at double speed you change the frame rate to 15fps and it will play at normal speed, then you can encode it to Mpeg with the "15fps(30fps internally)" setting so you would have a Standard compliant Mpeg file(Mpeg can"t have 15fps)..But then audio sync would be another problem...

What do you mean it is double speed? Is it playing too fast?
25 fps is the correct framerate for PAL VCD so what's the problem?

Yes, I purposely created the AVI at double-speed, and at 25 fps.
I then wanted TMPGEnc to create an MPG at half-speed, that is,
to render the MPG by slowing down the AVI by a factor of 2, if
possible. The MPG would still be 25 fps, but every video frame
would perhaps be doubled, and the audio would also be synced.

You've lost me?
Does the AVI actually play at the correct speed now at 25 fps or is it playing at twice the speed at 25 fps?

If it is the latter then simply click the 'Setting' button where it says frame rate and set the frame rate to 25 / 2 = 12.5 fps then in the advanced options check the 'Do not frame rate conversion' box.

Be aware that halving the frame rate like this may cause the playback to be slightly jerky.

Out of curiosity, what was the point in what you did?

Hehehe, okay, here is a better explanation:

The source material is recorded at 25 fps (PAL).
The footage of this source was from a machine playing at 2x speed.
Thus, the source material is showing footage running in fast motion.
Similar to a VHS machine that has recorded material in LP format.

If you play back this source material at half-speed (12.5 fps), then
everything looks normal again (except at a lower quality, naturally).
So, the original source (AVI) is 25 fps with everything moving fast.
I want TMPGEnc to create an MPEG1, still at 25 fps to be compliant,
but at half-speed, so the footage is played at normal speed.

Virtual Dub seems to do this with AC3 audio..Use something different extract the audio from the AVI file, like "AVI-MuX", and after extracting the audio to Wav check and make sure that the audio length and video length are the same cuz it they aren"t you will have a Sync problem...

The following will only work if the audio sync seems to get prolonged/delayed more and more as the file is played.

With virtual dub open the avi(what i usually convert) and under AUDIO>>Select Full Processing Mode

then Select Conversion and select 44100Hz then OK and SAVE WAV when u convert with tmpgenc you should have complete audio Sync.

Unless the original video file has undecompressable frames in which i think it deletes or maybe skips and then the audio begins to get out of sync.

If the audio is only out of sync for the 2nd half you may try to split the mpg and just try to sync that part.

Thanks, but this is the way I always do it, but this time it doesn't work.

Monte-Cristo just make sure you have the CONVERSION set to 44100Hz or else you will still get audio sync problems even though you have a wav file.

If the audio problems persist check the video stream for errors with virtual dub if it has many messed up frames then download it again.

Does the audio get prolonged more and more as the file is played?

or is the audio sync off sync the same at the beginning as at the end?

your only choice if you really really want the file is splitting it into 10 minute files and syncing each of those parts with this guide.

If I play the movie on WMP or Winamp, it's perfect. The sound is out of sync right from the beginning with VirtualDub at 44100. Thanks for the guide. I'll look into it.

so back to the issues of no sound...

i did use a wav file at 44100 and when i used tmpgenc i got the picture but no sound!!!

i browsed to get the proper audio file and went through the encoding process only to have no sound!

anyone help?

Are there any audio converters to change AC3 into a MP3 file? If so would it be able to be used as a plugin like SCMPX?

Whay would you want to turn AC3 into Mp3??? Mp3 will Not do you any Good if you are makeing a VCD or SVCD Cuz they use Mp2 audio..Headac3he can encode AC3 to Mp2(and mp3)...and no you can"t use it as a Plugin...

I'm not making a (S)VCD and I know, but thanks. I have a whole bunch of .avi's that are using AC3 audio and I need to compress it so like I can free up disk space.

AC3 audio is allready Highly compressed so encodeing it to MP3 will not reduce the Size very much, Why don"t you just burn the Files to CD-R, then you can totally delete the file...

Hum, well I'll still expirement. Hey what program will seperate the ac3 from this avi I have? TMPGEnc won't recognize the audio part so I can't parce it.

if when u browse for an avi file and the audio box does not automatically filled in, it is because u have changed your codec settings, maybe because u have recently downloaded a new codec.

to enable the sound box to fill in automatically when u browse for an avi file, do the following:

quit the wizard, and go to options, environmental settings, VFAPi plugin, and right click on 'direct show multimedia'. Increase the priority until it is at the top of the list. Now open the wizard and browse for the avi file you wish to encode, and the audio box automatically fills in.

I have a avi file and a sub-file that I want to convert to mpeg2 but how can I include this sub-file?

It depends on the format of the subs. If it's from VOBs then you can use VOBSUB and Virtualdub to frameserve the movie to TMPG.
If they are in another sub format you will need the Virtualdub subtitle plugin.
You may also need to convert the subs with Subadjust to the correct format and to adjust the timing.

Follow the instructions when installing VOBsub.
Load the AVI into Virtualdub then Click Video>Filters and add the Vobsub filter.
