Question - Sound Problem! No.33431
Billy  2003-01-15 02:37:19 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ashy, I took your suggestions about better quality and tested it out. The quality did improve a lot but something is wrong with the sound. It keeps on pausing and is not smooth. The source video is not DVD-ripped and on the computer, the converted file plays successfully. Here are the stats I used for converting in TMPGEnc:

The size is 352x240 pixels.
4:3 525 line (NTSC)
Frame rate: 29.97 fps
Rate Control Mode: Constant Quality
-Quality: 80
-Max. Bitrate: 3000
-Min. Bitrate: 300
VBV Buffer Size: 112
Motion Search Precision: High quality (slow)
Video Source Type: Non-interlace (progressive)
Field Order: Top Field First (Field A)
Source Aspect Ratio: 1:1 (VGA)
Video Arrange Method: Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)
Stream Type: MPEG-1 Audio Layer II
Sampling Frequency: 44100Hz
Channel Mode: Stereo
Bitrate: 128

I have multiplexed it into non-standard VCD. Unfortunately, I do not know what my DVD Player's maximum bitrate is, does that affect anything? Is there a place where I can find out?

Billy  2003-01-15 02:40:09 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually, I just used VDub to open the source files. I found out that the source files have 48000Hz. I think I switched it to 44100Hz in TMPGEnc.

Minion  2003-01-15 02:55:25 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you Didn"t set the audio to 44100hz then that could be your problem...

Billy  2003-01-15 04:29:01 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I did, I had one converted file that was set to 44100Hz, and the rest of the converted files were left at 48000Hz.All of them had sound problems.

Billy  2003-01-15 04:37:27 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Now that I rechecked it, in VDub, the converted file that I supposedly set to 44100Hz says 44KHz and the ones I left at 48000Hz are 48KHz. The 44KHz one went through in Nero while the 48KHz ones had this message that popped up saying it's not standard so I turned off the standard thing.

Minion  2003-01-15 07:39:48 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well A Lot of Players will Not play audio that is at 48000hz Cuz that is Not Part of the VCD or SVCD Standard, I know if I leave the audio at 48000hz the audio Cuts in and out so the audio should ALLWAYS be at 44100hz..

Billy  2003-01-16 01:32:37 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used source range to select a small video clip to convert. I also lowered the maximum bitrate to 2520 but I left the quality setting at 80. It still has the problems! You might want to know that the source file uses 48000Hz but this time around, I did change it to 44100 in TMPGEnc.

Minion  2003-01-16 01:41:55 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well what it could be is that you are getting Bitrate spikes Cuz your DVD Player Can"t handle the Bitrate above the VCD Standard of 1150kbs, I know if the Bitrate gets to high on my DVD Player then The audio cuts out on the DVD Player But not on my Computer, and Tmpgenc is notorius for Bad Bitrate controll which lets the bitrate go Far above what you set it at...

Billy  2003-01-16 02:01:55 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My DVD Player can handle the somewhat normal 1150kbs in the past. It plays successfully! But the current one has some problems. Maybe I will need to lower the quality setting that's set currently at 80 and maybe the VBV Buffer? Normally, that buffer is set at 40 but Ashy said to change it to 112...

ASHY  2003-01-16 22:10:30 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yout problem is most likely the bitrate setting if you can play standard VCD ok.
Your player cannot handle higher bitrates it seems. You may find the max bitrate your player can handle on the DVD players list at VCDhelp.com

ASHY

Billy  2003-01-17 01:04:06 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually, I went and set the VBV Buffer from 112 back to 40 and the sound was okay! I'm guessing this is also part of the problem that SVCDs I make seems to be stuttering but the video is still trashed. Thanks!

ASHY  2003-01-17 22:30:08 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a suspicion that you did not change the tream setting to 'MPEG1 VCD(non standard)' when you created these MPEGs.

If that is the case then it could be part of your problem. The muxing rate is tied to the bitrate setting and VBV buffer size.

Standard VCD uses a buffer size of 40 and the standard musing rate.

Your files are not standard, therefore you should use the non standard setting.

You may have been lucky with the audio by setting the buffer back down to 40, but you may find other playback problems. 40 is usually to low for the bitrate settings you are using and affects the quality of the image. I.E blockiness.
If you don't believe me try it. Set your buffer size to 10 and look at the quality difference.

80 is probably more appropiate looking at your bitrates. This tied with the 'Non standard VCD' setting should create playable disks without a problem.

ASHY

Question - encoding problem... help! No.33429
chillydog  2003-01-15 02:26:28 ( ID:4krvoczibz. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i'm new to this, but am attempting to burn dvd's to cd-r via mpeg-2, this is my scenario; ripping the dvd to harddrive with SmartRipper, using Flask as encoder, then Tmpgenc fot compiling and cutting to size, then EZ CD Platinum 5.02 to burn. My problems occur as Flask is finishing the encode- it sits on 100% yet never indicates that it's completed the task. i manually close the program and re-open for cutting to size. when i do so i get 'illegal video stream' errors during the cutting process (usually at the very endo of the process). If i open EZ CD to verify the integrity of these mpeg's it tells me the video bitrate is incorrect, and the packet size is incorrect.... any ideas? haven't seen where i can select these options.

thanks!
chillydog

Minion  2003-01-15 02:53:13 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Most Poeple Don"t use the Flask method of Makeing VCD"s anymore..It is Easier to Do it your self, all you need is SmartRipper-2.41 ,DVD2AVI 1.76, and Tmpgenc...and it is Totally easy to do , just load the Vob files ripped with SmartRipper into DVD2AVI then set "Audio" to track "1" then go to "audio" to "Dolby Digital" and set to "decode" and go to "file" to "save Project" and it will make a file with "D2V" at the end and a Wav audio file, you load the D2V file in to Tmpgenc as the video load the Wav file as the audio and load your VCD or SVCD Template and encode it to a Mpeg file that you can edit with the "Mpeg Tools" and Burn with anything accept RoXio EZ CD, RoXio sucks really bad and does not accept Tmpgenc files as VCD Compliant, Download Nero or VCDEasy to burn it to CD-R and you shouldn"t have any Problems...

Question - Why are moving objects are blurred by TMPGEnc Plus demo No.33424
Don R.  2003-01-15 02:15:49 ( ID:qsjbq6dnvqf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am comparing TMPGEnc Plus demo with Canopus ProCoder and have run into the following problems with TMPGEnc Plus:

1. The letters in rolling titles jitter.

2. Slow or fast moving subjects such as turtles swimming in the ocean blur.

3. It takes TMPGenc Plus 38 hours, 54 minutes and 11 seconds to process a 57 minute video transcoded to QuickTime REF movie. Is this normal?

Any solutions to these problems would be appreciated.

Don R.

Minion  2003-01-15 02:41:02 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sounds Like Interlaceing Artifacts Try reverseing the Field order or Useing the Deinterlace filter..and it can take 38 hours if you have a Really slow computer or use a Bunch of filters and use the "Highest" setting in the Motion search precition ..It takes me about 2-3 hours to encode an hour of full resolution AVI file to mpeg2 on a 1.7ghz ...

Don R.  2003-01-15 02:59:29 ( ID:qsjbq6dnvqf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My CPU is an Intel 1.7GHz.

Minion  2003-01-15 07:37:17 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well That is exactly what I have And I don"t have Much of a Problem with encodeing speed though I usually use a Faster encoder,Maybe it is so slow cuz you are encodeing Quicktime files and Tmpgenc Normally doesn"t encode them without a Plugin...

wcpaul  2003-01-15 18:36:01 ( ID:q7gr550x3gw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Note that field order (top or bottom first) can be fixed without re-encoding.

Use Bitrate to confirm how it currently is set and change to the opposite. Several MPEG fixing tools can do this, like PULLDOWN.EXE.

Hey, Can you help me? Im having trouble converting avi to mpg! Every time i convert the sound goes out of sync!! Ive changed the audio gap but that doesnt help!! It stays in sync for the first 5mins then goes outa sync again! Ive checked the files that im converting from and they are in perfect sync the whole way through! So the only conclusion i can come to is that TMPGEnc is causeing the problems! I have been told to use Cool Edit but i dont have a clue how to use it!! Is there a way to fix it with TMPGEnc? Can you please help me to fix this please???
chears

Minion  2003-01-15 02:33:59 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sometimes the length of the Video changes slightly after it gets encoded Cuz the Actual frame rate of the AVI is Off a Bit so when it get encoded to the exact frame rate the video length changes, You can use Cool edit to Stretch or shrink the audio to the length of the video, I have never used Cooledit to do this ,I use "Sound forge" so I couldn"t tell you the settings to use..That only works if there is a Differance in the audio and video lengths..

I have created dozens of VCD's encoded with TMPGEnc. I helped a friend set up a similar system and when the VCD is played back, the audio and video are playing a few seconds off. Any idea what is causing this?

Question - No Audio No.33416
siin82  2003-01-14 22:04:20 ( ID:zle8px7szmm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been creating VCD for the last 6 months using DVD2AVI and TMPGenc plus. I also use aviutil, vfapiconvert, and virtualdub when I need subtitles. I've created over 20 VCDs, with at least 5 of them having subtitles. I have been trying to create a VCD of a VERY long movie (over 7 VOB files) that requires subtitles. It was getting an out of memory error during the encoding process (TPMGenc pluse), which I tracked down to a bad VOB file. I re-ripped the one VOB file (#4) and now when I encode, there is no audio in TMPGenc. I have the .wav file created from DVD2AVI and I am using that as the audio source, but TMPGenc won't use it. I've played the .wav seperately and I can hear the audio fine.
This is the first time that I have had this problem. I have tried to adjust the environment settings in TMPGenc, but have had no luck.

Any ideas?

Minion  2003-01-15 02:19:07 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don"t know what the Problem could be accept that it might help to Raise the "Wav Reader" in the "Vfapi Plugins" ,But if that doesn"t work you can use something else to encode the audio to Mp2 like Headac3he then Multiplex the Mp2 to the Mpeg video, or you might try one of the Audio encoder Plugins for Tmpgenc like SCMPX or Toolame....

George  2003-01-15 03:02:15 ( ID:vngrin9sijo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded SCMPX. What do I do with it? Adjusting the wav environment setting did nothing.

Question - 24 to 8 bit mpeg conversion No.33412
LeXus99  2003-01-14 21:24:45 ( ID:vzamnqtg07a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been recording old black and white movies from my
satellite in VBR 720x480 4-6Mb p/s , and was wondering if
it's possible to convert and burn these films at 8 bit color
resolution instead of the usual 24 bit, which seems wasteful. Does
the MPEG-2 format support 8 bit encoding? For that matter,
does TMPGEnc support it?

LeXus

Minion  2003-01-14 21:57:09 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Mpeg format is in YV12 Colorspace so your 8 bit RGB and 24bit RGB Files all get converted to this to be mpeg files So I don"t think your Question apply"s....

Guspaz  2003-01-14 22:15:46 ( ID:krli4ehdgr. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The MPEG codec should take advantage of the lack of colour data in it's compression. There is nothing you can do.

Question - WMA Files? No.33410
DyNasty  2003-01-14 20:23:43 ( ID:zt8tip7sl.2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is it possible to convert wma files into mpeg? I tried it but it took almost 11 hours to convert it into mpeg, but after it was done, I got audio only for the first 7 min's of the movie. How come??????????

Minion  2003-01-14 21:53:11 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc Can encode the WMV Video But it sometimes has Problems with the WMA audio so it is Best to extract the audio to WAV and use the wav file as the audio track..You can do this with "DB Power amp" But you might have to rename the WMV to WMA ...

Question - Is it possible to add subtitles in the conversion process? No.33408
Maria JoåР 2003-01-14 16:47:25 ( ID:1hkss7/5ob6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm interested in TMPGenc to convert divX to Video-CD but, I want to know if it is possible to include the subtitles that come with divX (like .sub) in the final Video-CD? And how can I do this?
Thank you very much

B_Racer  2003-01-14 17:10:42 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There are many ways to do that. But TMPGEnc can't do that alone, you need additional Tools.

Just surf to this side:

Read the Guides, and you will be happy ;)

Question - A curious unexpected result while lowering bitrate No.33402
sndtek  2003-01-14 16:04:07 ( ID:xvtzswxolvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

While making 2 minute test encodes of a medium action 640 x 272 source onto 480 x 480 SVCD, the resulting MPEG file size went from 28MB (with CQ VBR 5000/0 @ 30) to 34MB (with 4000/0 @ 30)!

Why would the file size go up when the bitrate went down?

Keoki  2003-01-14 21:13:32 ( ID:hrjgs1vjd3g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

run the simple multiplexer on the output, it will strip buffer packets added to the file (bug in the latest version of the software)

OK. I'll try that tonight. Does this padding problem also exist in the Plus 2.5 version?

>run the simple multiplexer on the output, it will strip buffer packets added to the file (bug in the latest version of the software)

I tried that but the file actually grew another 40KB. Also, I was a little off with the original file sizes: 36.5MB vs 38.4MB. However the file still grew over 2MB dispite the max bitrate being reduced from 5kbs to 4kbs!

Question - How to enconde MP2 using three or four pass VBR No.33398

Hi

Can I Encode MPG2 using 3 or 4 pass vbr ???

I dont find that option

B_Racer  2003-01-14 15:40:55 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc provides only 2pass VBR.
Multipass? Maybe in a later Version.

Guspaz  2003-01-14 22:18:27 ( ID:krli4ehdgr. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not certain, but I don't believe that is how multipass encoding works.

From what I understand, in multi-pass encoders the first pass is spent gathering information (motion data?) that is then used to calculate which bitrates should be used one which scenes to ensure the average bitrate is met.

Minion  2003-01-15 02:10:59 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Different encoders Do it differently, I think Tmpgenc does the Analizeing and averageing the Bitrate all in the First Pass and Encodes in the second pass ,Were I think with CCE it analizes in every Pass and encodes in the last pass..
