Bug report - Opening Mpeg2 Causes TMPGEnc to crash No.31139
Uhoh  2002-11-23 08:48:27 ( ID:lhz5uz6tdga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used to be able to open Mpeg2 files with TMPGEnc-2.56.39.143 but I had to reinstall my OS and with the new version, TMPGEnc-2.59.47.155. I tried installing 2 different DVD players (PowerDVD & WinDVD) and also tried using the Ligos mpeg(2) decoder. With PowerDVD & Windvd I get unrecognized format dialog but with the ligos The program just crashes (...has encountered a problem and needs to be closed...)

Any suggestions would be appreciated. My apologies if this question has already been answered. I didnt find the answer when I searched.

Thank You All.

Question - Merge & Cut Tool Stops 5 Minutes Into Project No.31134
Kat  2002-11-23 06:47:37 ( ID:x7xyqdvckcm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded a video file that was already in mpg format. It is over a gig, so I need to split it into either 3 or 4 segments, in order to burn it to CD on Nero. I have tried tried to cut it using the MPEG Tools in 2 different versions of TEMPENGEnc, and even though I set the parameters correctly 40 minutes into the video, once I run the project, it only produces a 5 minute segment.

It goes through all the right steps... producing the video & audio streams and then multiplexing and writing the headers..... but it is NOT the 40 minutes that I set it for.

I then tried to split it with Virtual Dub. When I tried that, I got the following error message: "MPEG Import Filter: packet sync error on packet stream (3396f94)"

It plays just fine on my computer, but I'd like to get it onto CD's.

Anyone ever have this problem, or does anyone have any ideas about what I might try?

Minion  2002-11-23 07:33:30 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well you probably only need to Cut it in 2 Parts Cuz you can fit About 800MB on a 700mb 80 Min CD-r...But if Tmpgenc won"t cut it then there isn"t much you Can do about it accept Use a Real Mpeg editor,...Try "Womble Mpeg2VCR"...

ASHY  2002-11-23 13:03:22 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are obviously trying to cut ab MPEG2 file and seeing as you downloaded it, it is probably corrupt in some way.
Virtualdub will not open MPEG2 files.

Try and re-multiplex the file first using the 'MPEG2 program (VBR)' stream setting. If that doesn't work install one of the recommended MPEG2 codecs for TMPG and if that doesn't work use another editor like Minion says.

I sort of put this project aside for a while, because it was frustrating me... but I need to get this movie on to CD's, off my hard drive, and move on.

Thanks for the tips, Minion & Ashy.... but I am afraid I need more of your expertise & ideas, to resolve this one.

I tried to de-multiplex and then multiplex, but it stopped at 5 minutes, just as the MPEG merge & cut tool did (it didn't "stop" per se... it acted as if it were completing a normal project... but it only processed 5 minutes of the video.) I have used TEMPGEnc for many projects, and I have never had this problem.

I don't think the MPEG is corrupt, because I have no problems playing it with WinDVD, Windows media Player, or even in TEMPGEnc.... I paid special attention at the point where the processing was stopping.... and it was fine (or at least LOOKED and SOUNDED fine.) It's really a good quality video, and I'd like to share it with my computer-phobic mother, who will need to view it on her DVD player.

BTW, Ashy, its MPEG 1, according to GSpot.... I bought TEMPGEnc, so my MPEG2 tools work, but that is not even an issue here. GSpot also reported that there were no errors when it processed the file, if that helps.

I downloaded the evaluation version of Womble, and it will not allow me to try out its cutting abilities unless I buy it. VCD Cutter appears to be the same... (it says it can't "find" the file, when I try to set the cutting project up.) Any other evaluation programs that I might try, that will allow me to try out the actual SPLITTING of an MPEG?

ASHY  2002-12-01 18:34:24 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MPEG2VCR isn't as picky as TMPG or many other MPEG editing programs and has fixed many an MPEG for me.

Use it to re-multiplex the file as an ordinary MPEG and load that into TMPG or use it to do your editing.

Shouldn't really do this, but...

Question - How to I put an mpg file ONTO the CD? No.31131
Lum  2002-11-23 03:00:18 ( ID:lzknh0i8uwl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I admit that I'm a dweeb here. I have TMPGEnc, and I have an MPG file. I want to take that MPG file and make a VCD out of it.

Is there anyone who will take pity on the dweeb and tell her **in idiot terms** how to do this? Like, "this is your mouse."

I know just enough to be dangerous.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and hopefully to answer.

Well the Hard part is Over you Just need to Burn it to Disk with a program that supports Burning VCD/SVCD"s Like "Nero" or "VCDEasy"...

Ok here is my simple question for you guys seeing that I am pretty much out of my league with this.. I download movies from Kazaa and I was wondering how i can burn them to a disk in VCD format so I can use my VCD/DVD/MP3 home player to view these said movies?? any Help??

Thanks

Minion  2002-11-23 07:29:06 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well Use Tmpgenc to encode your AVI"s to Mpeg1/VCD then burn them to disk with a program that supports Burning VCD"s....If you are Haveing a specific Problem you should post it instead of asking a Very general Question like "How do I make a VCD out of AVI"s"........

Question - No video after I've encoded No.31124
daveyboy1113  2002-11-22 19:43:20 ( ID:37cbaywdqoh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi all,

I have an avi that I've decompressed the audio into a wav file. I then grab the avi as my video and the wav file as my audio and encode it. When it is finished, I play the resulting file and I get only the audio, no video. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Dave

A380  2002-11-22 19:56:11 ( ID:0dwshxbwuhc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You don't need to split the audio and video file before loading it into TMPGEnc. Just load up the video file, TMPGEnc will recognize the sound itself.
Then it should be just fine.
Hint: Try out a few settings and find the one'S that work best with your system and work out best for you. Use a short video file for it, so encoding time is shorter.

Minion  2002-11-22 22:34:03 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

YES...Sometimes you DO have to Extract the audio from the AVI as a WAV file Because the audio format isn"t supported or Tmpgenc Just isn"t reading the audio format Because of some sort of Configuration Problem...Usually if there is a Picture in the Tmpgenc Window while Encodeing then there will be a Picture in the actual Mpeg file, But if there is no picture while encodeing then there isn"t going to be a Picture in the Mpeg file...Usually if there is no Picture in the Mpeg file it can Be cured By encodeing again with the Priority of the "Direct Show" being raised to "2"...

Question - A widescreen VCD picture gets squashed when played in DVD player on TV No.31123
Gael8739  2002-11-22 19:42:21 ( ID:qhswftowuoo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm pretty new to this stuff, but so far almost everything has worked out fine. I can convert an avi to a mpg and keep the screen ratios the same. The picture looks fine and it plays in the same ratio on my comuter. However, when I pop into my DVD player and try to play it on TV, the picture gets adjusted and is squashed to fit fullscreen. Is there any way to get it to play the same in the DVD player as it does on my computer? Please help.

Thanks

Question - DVD to DVDR No.31120
AdonisXX00  2002-11-22 17:49:54 ( ID:cun7pso8rgw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does anyone out there have a text file they can forward to me that explains how to convert DVD onto DVDR using one DVDR disk for all movies. I have tried VCD helper guides but they seem to leave out details. I would be thankful if anyone has a guide they can share-also prefer guide that uses TMPGEnc as the encoder. THanks in advance Guys!!!

Request - Multiple Output - please add ^_^ No.31116
Dodzzz  2002-11-22 13:55:58 ( ID:ckrrtd0brqr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello..
I'm currently going to make several formats of my home movie clips.
one is VCD, DVD, Divx, and a WMV format.
I applied noise reduction filter that really is a time consuming, and I thought it would be nice if TMPGEnc could output to multiple formats (like mentioned above) right after it prefilters the image to avoid redundancy (re-filter each time I encode to a different format).
I know one current solution is to output to an uncompressed AVI first, but that would be a waste of space if it's a full movie.

I hope this feature would be added very soon!
Thanks!

ASHY  2002-11-22 20:07:18 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What? how many other encoders do u know that do this and how long do u think it would take to encode a movie when doing what u ask.

It would take an enormous amount of CPU power to do what u ask and is just not feasible.

The Only encoder That I know of that Can output that Many different formats at once is "Canopus ProCoder" and it is "REALLY SLOW".....

Question - "Audio direct Stream copy"- Feature No.31111
svenrender  2002-11-22 08:38:29 ( ID:born1pd.vyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use original MP2 or AC3 Streams of DVD or DVB.
So my suggestion: A Audio "direct Stream copy" (Similarly as VirtualDub)

Thus I would save the muxing of m2v + AC3 Files!

buga  2002-11-22 09:42:23 ( ID:8ze090hymlh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Very nice request!

ASHY  2002-11-22 20:17:37 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The option already exsists and has done for a while.

Simply enable the feature in the enviromental settings under the CPU tab.
Use the command 'mux://' before the file name to mux the stream rather encode it.
For example:
VIDEO: C:movie.avi
AUDIO: mux://C:movie.mp2

This will result in the Video being encoded and the audio just being muxed with the Video and not re-encoded.

sorry this should say the 'General' tab not the 'CPU' tab
