Ok, so I've turned my avi's to mpeg, now how and what do i use to burn it into VCD's? I've used Easy CD Creator to make the vcd, but i got nothing. I also tried VCDeasy, it showed that everything was burnt onto the disc, but when i put the disc into my player i get nothing? What can and how can i use it to make VCD's??? Please help? Thank you!

- DyNasty

Minion  2002-11-12 08:21:07 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

well you have to make sure that there is Video and audio in the Mpeg file..Just watch it with Media-Player or something...if there is a Picture then I would use someting like Nero to burn a Basic VCD..But it sounds like something went wrong with the encodeing.....

it might sound daft...but you sure yer dvd player plays vcd's...just a thought

Question - TmpgEnc and AViu containing ac3 sound No.30647
Toto  2002-11-12 07:28:30 ( ID:hu83xdzutv6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First of all, excuse me if the question was already asked. I've encoded a DVD to AVI file with sound in AC3 format. When I want to use it in TMPGENC, it doesn't recognize my AVI file as containig sounds. Do I have to extact it in WAV format? Will it keep the 5.1 mode? Is it possible to have it in TMPGENC without changing anything to my AVI file?

Thanks in advance.

Minion  2002-11-12 08:18:15 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK this depends on what you want to make out of the AVI..if you want to make a VCD or SVCD you can NOT use AC3 audio and expect it to play on your DVD Player or have Tmpgenc recognize it..but if you want to make a DVD then you can just de-mux the ac3 audio then just encode the video then re-mux the AC3 to the mpeg file for DVD...But if you want to make a VCD or SVCD then you will have to convert the AC3 to Wav format...You can use a Program Called AVIMuX to demux the audio as either AC3 or Uncompressed PCM/Wav...

Toto  2002-11-12 08:24:30 ( ID:hu83xdzutv6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for your answer.

Toto  2002-11-12 08:58:10 ( ID:hu83xdzutv6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

One question more, if I demux the AVI file and convert the sound in WAV format I will lost the 5.1 definition, isn't it? Because I would like to keep it and so have a VCD or SVCD that contains the 5 chanels.

Minion  2002-11-12 09:19:13 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You Can"t ...It is not part of the SVCD/VCD specification so there is No way you can do it Unless your DVD Player supports mpeg audio 5.1 which barely any do and it would be displayed right on your DVD player with a Mpeg 5.1 logo..then you would have to find a program that makes mpeg 5.1 of which I don"t know of any...so you are pretty much S.O.L...

Furball  2002-11-12 05:20:37 ( ID:z3y/ltmsrxk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Before i embark on a great 8hour encoding journey, i have a NTSC DVD (29.970 fps) and i wish to encode it with TMPG using PAL settings (25fps) can i do this? Is there any effect on the outcome of the movie?

Thanx

Minion  2002-11-12 08:13:03 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No you Can"t well not useing just Tmpgenc...you need a program to convert the formats from NTSC to Pal...there are a few programs that can do this one is "ProCoder" and another is "Advanced NTSC/PAL converter" and none of them come cheap...But there is a AVSynth Command that is supposed to give fairly good results...

i ran a movie thru tmpge and burn't it to vcd and there was no sound on the vcd and on the new file!this is the first time i have had a problem.

Minion  2002-11-12 08:03:50 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don"t you Watch your VCD before you Burn them????you need to extract the audio from the source AVI file to a WAV file with something like "Virtual Dub" and use that as the audio source...

jay o  2002-11-13 00:47:16 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ok i have virtual dub(but have never used it ) how do i combine the two after.P.S like i said i have never had any vcd's screw up before!

Hawaiian Heart  2002-11-13 05:07:07 ( ID:bwzg5wxnhbm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

try selecting the extracted wav file as the audio source.

johnfused  2002-11-13 11:32:23 ( ID:zsvsj8s7lrk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Got here searching for my own new 'no sound' problem. Done a few successful rips before. Now, the Video Source is an .avs file and I can see another attempt cooking as I write, with the subtitles. But in Audio Source there is nothing and I'm sure I used to be able to put in a wav file, but when I go to the folder there is no wav file just an mp2 audio (and I've not decided to buy the thing yet until I'm satisfied it will work). So, Hawaiian Heart, where the hell's me wav file gone? Have I lost a codec somewhere? And if so how do I get it back please!
I also notice that the stream type is ES Video Only. I'm sure it used to be (in the few weeks that I've been trying) System Video and Audio.
I don't have the opportunity to make any changes because it comes up automatically with DVD2SVCD program.

Hope you can help.
Many thanks.

You need to install the Vfapi plugin(in the same folder as TMPEGNc)

When I am trying to convert the Sum of All Fears dvd into mpeg, in PAL format, it says 'invalid pointer operation'. Why is this and what can i do to get it to work? Note that when converting in NTSC it works fine...

Minion  2002-11-12 00:08:18 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How can you Convert the same DVD to Both Pal and NTSC???

ArKiBoNzO  2002-11-19 09:36:42 ( ID:tdr5ilee7uo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The first option that comes up when you open TMPGenc is whether you want to encode in PAL or NTSC... so that's how you do it (lol).

ASHY  2002-11-19 21:31:13 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

LOL...You seem misunderstand my friend...LOL
Minion is not referring to how you actually do it, but is reffering to the fact that the framerates will be different and will cause jerky playback for the one which is different to the original because TMPG does not do correct framerate conversion...LOL

Question - sound problems No.30621
rix500  2002-11-11 21:25:55 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi,I am using the progran to convert avis to vcds.when I try to convert an avi that has a frame rate of 23.9 to the correct vcd format (ntsc film) then playback is smooth but the sound keep going out,it will catch up and then go out again. If I try to convert the same avi to a pal vcd , then the playback is slightly jerky (due to the different frame rates I think),but the sound stays synced to the video.
Any sugestions would be helpfull.
p.s I have tried 3 different brands of blank cds to see if this was the problem, but it made no difference.

Minion  2002-11-11 22:22:06 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well find out the frame rate of your AVI file...23.9 isn"t nescessarily the correct frame rate for VCD 29.9 is actually a more standard NTSC format...you have to encode to the same frame rate as your AVI file ..and Virtual Dub in this case is used for extracting the audio from your avi file to a WAV file which is more compatible with TMPGenc....

rix500  2002-11-12 11:11:18 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when I convert a 23.9 avi to a 23.9 mpeg (ntsc film) then the audio is still out

Minion  2002-11-12 21:37:56 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well that is why I said to use "Virtual Dub" to extract the audio to a WAV file and use that as the audio source....geeezzz

Any ideas ?

ASHY  2002-11-11 23:14:45 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try running the program in Win 95 compatibility mode.

Also install the toolkit to the root of your drive and put the source files in the root of your drive too.

Try raising the priority of the DVD2AVI project reader to '2'
Also create another d2v file and try again.
