Question - multiple cd's No.27045
mckuip  2002-08-25 13:04:09 ( ID:luxbwueqqzm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What to do to get 1 movie on 2 cd's? Does tmpg make 1 file and does nero puts it on 2 cd's or does tmpg makes 2 cd's? Let's say a 700 mb movie which has to be played in a stand-alone dvd-player, preferably on 2 cd's (quality). Can I set the prog to make 2 files of 800 (cd-size)??

Thanks you.

Minion  2002-08-25 21:59:18 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What you have to do is either use the "Mpeg Tools" to cut the file into 2 parts or you can use the source range to encode the movie in 2 parts, and get a bitrate calculator so you know what bitrate to use so you fill up bothe cd-r"s cuz it sucks haveing a whole movie that is say 1gb which you would have to put on 2 cd-r"s but only fill them 2/3ds of the way.....

Question - DVD2Wav No.27042
rbornowski  2002-08-25 12:23:53 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does anyone no of a fast and easy method for converting audio from a dvd into wav files but keeping them in there original tracks. So if a dvd that I wanted to encode had 24 tracks, I would end up with 24 wav files. Cheers.

Minion  2002-08-25 21:55:51 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The only way I know is to either use DVD2AVI and extract each audio track individually to wav but this isn"t very fast, or you can use DVD2AVI to "demux all tracks" then use a "AC3" Decoder to "batch encode" all the "Dolby Digital AC3" tracks to wav files, but if there are "DTS" audio tracks then there isn"t anything you can do with them as of now cuz I don"t think there is a "Dolby Theater Sound" decoder available to convert it to wav.....

Question - No seek impossible No.27040
Sadri Alisik  2002-08-25 11:05:29 ( ID:ow44df.0q9h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have somtimes the Problem that its impossible to open VCD-Standard MPG filles with the MS Media Player, in the same time its also impossible to seek in the file with the TMPGEnc. Somtimes it opens the same file, sometimes not - not logical. Is there a solution?

B_Racer  2002-08-29 10:49:50 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc is using the MediaPlayer. If a Movie is working with MediaPlayer, it works with TMPGEnc too, if it is not working with MediaPlayer... say thank you to Microsoft! ;)

Question - Black screen when encocing AVI to MPG1 No.27038
Tom  2002-08-25 09:21:45 ( ID:evcjzc5fbsm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I tried to encode an AVI to MPG1 (VCD-format), but already during the preview it shows nothing more then a black screen. I can normally view the AVI-file in the Windows Media Player. I installed the VFP-plugin and got the 5.0.2. DIVX codecs installed as well.

The final MPG does work, but has still the black screen + the audio.

I encoded several other AVI's without any problem.

Does anyone know what can be wrong.

Thanx for your info.

Greetz,
Tom

Minion  2002-08-25 10:11:35 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is the most common problem reported with tmpgenc..You need to raise the "direct show file reader" in the "vfapi plugins" go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "vfapi plugins" and raise the "direct show" to "2"......

Bug report - Won't make valid Access Point in MPEG1 Stream No.27033
Matthew Rubin  2002-08-25 05:41:04 ( ID:vpe9qbj3bjr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When wanting to make a chapter point at a certain frame number or any I frame TMPGEnc will not either close the GOP or open a new GOP. This seems to only happen when the I frame falls on a dark section of video. Lighter ones seem to work fine. This error even happens if I use [Force picture type setting] and set the chapter point at the desired frame by using set I frame and New GOP.

Minion  2002-08-25 08:07:53 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have never had this problem ,Maybe the problem is with your authoring program, just a thought.....

Matthew Rubin  2002-08-26 10:54:59 ( ID:/z/zzjfjbxc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Authoring programes I used were Philips VCD2.0 Toolkit and VCDImager. As a test I ran the same video through Panasonic MPEG1 Encoder v2.51 Standalone and bbMPEG's AVI2MPG2 v1.24 which both make valid access point in the mpeg video stream at every I frame.

Minion  2002-08-26 11:10:58 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That is strange ,i don"t use the VCD Tool kit cuz it is quite a bit out dated but the programs that i use don"t have problems with it, like "ulead dvd workshop, or the "Ulead dvd plugin" for "video studio 6" or VCDEasy, or "Video Wav 5", or "Dazzle DVD".....

Matthew Rubin  2002-08-27 03:35:26 ( ID:cqgj9f3stsa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My source is StarWars EP1 DVD (PAL & I own it) Frameserved with DVD2AVI v1.77.3.
Changing GOP makes no difference, setting max gop length makes no difference, either does setting closed GOPs.

Question - How to convert Avi files to VCD/DVD format No.27031
achan512  2002-08-25 04:41:09 ( ID:yiut9lstn7c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have just purchased a Panasonic CD R/RW. I would like to copy some avi files and convert them into VCD format. How do i do the conversion. Can i convert them into Mpeg format and then cut a VCD using the CD-R/RW software provided. Please help.

Thanks.

Minion  2002-08-25 08:06:03 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to encode your avi file to a VCD compatible Mpeg1 file then you need to burn it to CD-R with software specificly dezigned for burning VCD"S, "Nero" is good for this but i think "vcdeasy" is better because it is freeware and it supports chapters..You will have to put the vcd files on at least 2 cd-r"s if you want it to be of fairly good quality.....Go to "www.vcdhelp.com" and there you can find out how to do it ,it isn"t as easy as it looks, if something can go wrong it will go wrong......

Question - DVD Player No.27027
Kcarrde  2002-08-25 03:16:47 ( ID:0swz1nqxeen )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've tried using the TMPGEnc Wizard to make a SVCD. However, it plays really jerky (both video and audio) in my DVD/VCD player. I am burning on a Yamaha CRW8824SX writer on a CD-RW playing on a Panasonic DVD-RV31. The MPEG2 file plays on my computer. Why is it choppy on my DVD player and how can I fix it?

Executioner  2002-08-25 04:38:30 ( ID:bd2yi0jkrph )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try burning the image at a slower speed. I had the same problem on my picky Sony, and now I have to burn everything at 4x.

Minion  2002-08-25 08:14:20 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The problem could be from a whole bunch of things, make sure you encode to the same frame rate as your source file , make sure you set the "Field order" correctly or you might need to use the "de-interlace filter" and make sure that you don"t encode to a bitrate higher than your dvd player can handle, and burning at too high of speed can cause jumpy playback, usually half the top speed of your burner is good..But I think it is either the incorrect frame rate of the "field order" or "de-interlace"....

ABS  2002-08-25 14:53:36 ( ID:tmdsptwfkem )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Another thing is that you need to make sure your DVD player can play SVCD from CD-RW, I heard of some players that can play CD-RW only at X1 speed, thus limited to VCD (Though they can play SVCD from CD-R just fine).

Question - stream error? No.27022
pablo  2002-08-25 00:50:49 ( ID:gg1wtdequka )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

whenever i finished encoding a movie and when it reaches 100% a "stream error...." message appears...However, the movie plays fine and it only does this when it is done encoding and when it's at 100%....Does anybody know why this happen and why does it happen in the end...thanks

Minion  2002-08-25 08:02:08 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think this happens because Tmpgenc is haveing a problem writeing the "Sequence End Code" on the header, this shouldn"t cause a problem but if it does for some reason you can run the file through the "merge & cut" in the "mpeg tools" to rewrite the header on the file......

gdaymate  2002-08-25 11:23:33 ( ID:msvx6bbbggh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I have exactly the same problem like pablo has described it. So I tried Minion's tip. But now I got another error message: "Stream reading error"! This always happens when Tmpegenc try to rewrite the SVCD header. The error message comes after a completion rate of about 11%. The destination disk has enough free disk.
pablo could you solve your problem with the "merge and cut" tool?
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is? Does it have any negative influence on some DVD Player if I use the mpeg file with this corrupt header? At the moment I evaluate a DVD Player. So I burned a CD with such an mpeg2 file. So I vent to different sellers to test some DVD Players. In some player the cd works perfect! In some other players the movie had "flickers". It has looked like the player would lose some frames. Could it be that the corrupt header is the reason for this reaction of the players? ThankÃÔ!

Minion  2002-08-25 23:15:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Mpeg tools in the "2.57" version have a major but in them that won"t allow it to write the svcd header on the file, but I know that it does work in the versions before this one..These should be a bug fix for this in the next version .......

pablo  2002-08-26 20:32:14 ( ID:gg1wtdequka )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi, the movie is usually 100% done so i have no complaints. It plays perfectly and i got what i wanted. It's just that whenever that "stream error" message appears it is somewhat annoying...

Minion  2002-08-25 07:59:59 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to raise the "direct Show file Reader" in the "vfapi plugins" you do this by going to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "vfapi plugins" and raise the "direct show" to "2"......

Question - MPEG1 or MPEG2 No.27017
rickki804  2002-08-24 23:51:46 ( ID:mxx4cvozknr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have read quite a few views about mpeg1 or mpeg2 in the encoding process. My question is....do I have to be doing a svcd to use mpeg2 or is it ok to use when making a vcd?

Minion  2002-08-25 07:58:19 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That all depends on your dvd player...I have had some success useing mpeg2 with VCD resolution then useing the "Mpeg tools" to attach a VCD header on the file so that your DVD Player thinks that it is a Mpeg1/vcd, and if your player plays svcd then you can probably encode with VCD resolution and burn it as a NON-standard SVCD,So it all totally depends on your DVD Player...I have had success doing VCD"s with svcd resolution, and doing SVCD with DVD resolution(704 by 480) and doing vcd with DVD Resolution(704 by 480)...
