Raj,
I have the same problem, how did you solve that?
Thanks,

Tully

You either have to raise the priority of the "direct show file reader" or the "openDML file reader" in the "vfapi plugins"......

Hi, I also have that problem and the fix above did not fix it. Is there any other way of sorting it out? It's rather a large file I'm trying to convert - 53mins DV - could this be the problem? My system has enough juice to handle it but does the program not like big files?

This has happened to me a few times. I will have tmpg working beautifully, and then I tinker with something, and I get that dreaded message. Videos that formerly loaded no longer do. One time, it happened after I installed quicktime, and I forgot what I did the first time to make it stop working. I used system restore and got it to work again. Needless to say, I don't use quicktime anymore.

Markpjones  2002-07-19 14:59:46 ( ID:byfgb8hg5fn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Come to think of it, it wasn't quicktime that did this, I was using Adobe Premier too and tmpg stopped working completely.

Did you try Minion's advice? I had to do system restore to get mine to work, but I'm relatively new to all this too!

Question - missing sequence headers before each GOP No.25075
jfpiore  2002-07-18 18:45:09 ( ID:p3bkw3bwzvl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to bring my EMPEG2 file into DVDit, and is telling me that there are missing sequence before each gop. Does anyone know what this problem is?

Minion  2002-07-18 22:04:35 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When makeing a dvd compliant file you need to have sequence headers before each Gop, in the settings under "gop" were is says sequence headers put that number to "1" and it will put a header before every gop, plus make sure you don"t have more than 18 frames(I think) per gop.....

Griff  2002-07-19 17:24:58 ( ID:weqq6oiuelr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The dvd player needs these sequence headers in order to be able to pause, rewind fast forward etc. You need to set the maximum number of frames per GOP to 15 for PAL or 18 for NTSC. Alternatively, just load the DVD template for you video type (PAL or NTSC)

Question - file triple in size when converting to mpeg No.25073
kalleboy  2002-07-18 18:33:05 ( ID:tkn5khvwjnr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi there. In converting 2 different avi files i¡ve experience this error.
The file size is 600-700 MB in size and abuot 65-70 min. in length. But when i convert the file using the wizard it tells me that the new file size is apr. 2500 MB or 350 % the capacity of the disk space.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is ???

WhiTeRuM  2002-07-20 16:42:59 ( ID:npkbay9e7ia )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hey kalleboy,
well the difference is if your trying to convert 2 videos or just 1.. A 600-700mb movie usually goes into from about 800mb upto 1.4gb... so it depends on what movie you are going also... and the resolution is a key.. its not a problem.. its just that your trying to make a divx coded avi into not that big.. and its not going to happen.. its not a problem you have, you just have to know what its going to be before you convert it.. Question - improving the mpeg quality of my movie No.25071
gabdolcader  2002-07-18 18:06:11 ( ID:it4ze6ckoz6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i've just converted my asf file to mpeg. except, i noticed that there are some blurry, spotty areas because the quality of the picture is not very good. is there a software that i can use to fix up the picture to get good quality mpeg? thanks.

Minion  2002-07-18 21:58:59 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The only real way of inproving the quality is to re-encode the asf file to mpeg but use a higher bitrate, the quality of a file is directly related to the bitrate used to make the file and of cource the quality of the source file...

Hi,
I'm relatively new in DVD to Mpeg conversion. I'm using the conversion to SVCD, but I read that CDV will get best results compared to SVCD.
How can I get a template to convert to CDV format?

Minion  2002-07-18 21:56:42 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That isn"t necessarily true, with cvd useing the same bitrate as svcd you get slightly better image quality but you actually loose about 25% of your resolution which distracts from the quality, but if you want to make your own cvd template just load in the "svcd template" and change the resolution to 352 by 480 then click "save" in the bottom right corner and name the template and you have a cvd template....

Question - Video ok, no Audio. No.25066

Hi there,

I'm new to encoding DivX to mpeg and I've already some problems:

when I encode divX-Movies with tmpeg, the sound is missing.

Although there is sound, when I watch the movie with a DivX-Player and I have checked the audio&video-stream type checkbox in the main window.

Can somebody help?

Duke

gspat  2002-07-18 19:50:01 ( ID:d.s4fbg4bfl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had the same problem...

Turned out you have to pull out the audio first, then encode to mpeg using the divx file as the video source and the audio file you created as the audio source...

Good Luck!!

Question - VCD will not work in DVD player No.25063
Drivnvws  2002-07-18 13:24:43 ( ID:.stz9egjbkj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi again, Thanks to Minion I was able to fix my prior problem with the error message, but now the VCD won't work in my DVD player. I know that my player plays VCDs, I have before, but when I insert this one in it says it can not read the disc. I am using Nero, for the first time, a burning software. I have used Adaptec Easy CD Creator before, and the VCD it produced worked fine in my DVD player. Anyone have any answers, please let me know. Thanks, Emily

Minion  2002-07-18 21:47:05 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don"t see why It wouldn"t play if it was burned properly unless your dvd/vcd player is really picky and the mpeg was out of compliance, I guess you can try the other burning software and see if that is were the problem is....

Olli  2002-07-19 19:59:29 ( ID:dazey0v8lbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Also check www.vcdhelp.com - DVD players list to see what brand of CD are compatible with your player ... not all brands work on certain players ... mine (Sony DAVS300) is very picky for instance and only plays 5 or 6 different brands .. fortunately for me one of them is a cheapy one from Argos 100 for 30 quid

Question - P3 package.dll error when trying to split file No.25059
Drivnvws  2002-07-18 10:39:50 ( ID:.stz9egjbkj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, When I try to split a file under 'Source Range' in TMPGEnc, I can enter the starting and ending frames I am wanting to encode, and in the bitrate section I am entering CD-R 80 minite(VCD/SVCD), then I specify the file name and OK to create a new file in that name, but when it goes to the transfer screen an error message comes up as 'Can't load "P3Package.dll"'. Please, does anyone know what I am doing wrong. Thanks, Emily

Minion  2002-07-18 21:39:33 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try copy and pasteing the "p3p package.dll" into your system and system32 folders, this usually works ...

Question - Audio problem No.25056
Gerrit  2002-07-18 10:36:32 ( ID:f7upkllovtm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Recently I have recorded some live piano music with my camcorder. Then I noticed that after encoding with TmpgEnc the sound was very thin and distorted (as if it is too loud). The problem is only in the mpg-file as the sound of the AVI-file is good. I followed the advice on this board and used SCMPX and TOOLAME as external encoders in TmpgEnc. But TOOLAME gave no improvement and SCMPX resulted in a sort of beeps and no clear sound. I reduced the audio volume via normalizing to 50% but no improvement. I left the sample rate at 48 kHz (instead of 44 kHz), only a very small improvement. I tried 128 and 224 kbps: no difference.

What have I done wrong? Do you need to setup these external encoders with some input data and how do you do that? Is it necessary to split up the video and audio first?

Len Bates  2002-12-18 02:05:04 ( ID:fxzhgqbxqwm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm having the same trouble with piano. Very nice recording until I go through TMPG to VCD. Noticable ringing/buzzing in the audio after encoding. Same experimenting with normalizing, etc. Also tried drastically reducing the level of the audio before going into TMPG: no improvement. I don't know what to do.

Len Bates  2002-12-19 15:04:22 ( ID:6nwvmnpmjql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Follow-up. I found the solution for my problem: I needed to switch my input audio sample rate to 44.1K which is the sample rate of the VCD format, rather than 48K which was the default for my other software. Sounds OK now.

Can anyone help, when I split a file and output it to MPG, it plays perfectly wll until about halfway through the file, then the sound goes off? Is this a usual problem? My PC has a Pentium III processor running at 800Mhz with 256 Mb of RAM.

Question - MOV files? No.25050

Has anyone successfully converted mov files to mpeg with tmpg? There is a plugin on the web, but I couldn't get it to work--something about module error.

Try re-downloading and installing the plugin cuz the plugin does work once it is installed...

Question - VCD display problem on the DVD/VCD Player No.25048
Casey  2002-07-18 07:44:06 ( ID:nmqdyrajeaa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have used the DVD2SVCD and TMPGEnc programs to convert file to VCD. When I play the newly created VCD (using Nero software) on my player, the screen seem to shrink from right to left (about 1/3 to half). What have gone wrong? How to rectify this problem?

Markpjones  2002-07-18 07:49:57 ( ID:byfgb8hg5fn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have never used dvd2svcd. However, I had some problems burning vcd's with Nero a while back. Since then, I have been using vcdeasy, which I personally think is the best program for burning vcds or creating vcd images. It's a free program too. Get it here: www.vcdeasy.org. TMPG files work fine in it. Hope that helps.
