No one from "Pegasus" comes here, so you need to go to the "Pegasus" web site and look for a contact e-mail, or just wait a bit and try again cuz these types of problems have happened before......

There is a "search engine" at the top of this page were you can type in "p3p package" and you will read the solution to this problem....

Question - TMPGEnc stops Encoding at 1:45 min !!! No.24350
iparout  2002-07-02 22:35:34 ( ID:w9iotqoonxm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there.

I am experiencing a very weird problem... I have captured 7 minutes of VHS video off my VCR. I used VDub to capture it at 704x576 (YUY2) and the file generated was 8 GB in size (VDub bypasses the 2 GB limit). When I captured the same video with Matrox PC VCR, it was automatically split into 4 parts of 2 GB and 1:42 minutes in length each.

I decided to encode the 8GB file into TMPGEnc and encode it into VCD PAL. TMPGEnc estimated that the encoding time would be around 20 minutes, however 5 minutes later, the encoding was finished ?!? I checked the output VCD file and I was surprised to find out that only the first 1:43 minutes were encoded. Windows Media Player would continue playing the remaining minutes (the cursor was scrolling) however the screen was black and there was no audio (i.e. that part was not encoded).

I then tried feeding the 4 2 GB files into Premiere timeline, one next to each other, and framesrve to TMPGEnc... I was also surprised to find out that TMPGEnc would only encode the first 1:45 minutes and then nothing...

Let me tell you that the 8GB .avi file would play flawlessly in VDub (it gives me an unsupported format error in WMP though) however TMPG can not encde it till the end.

Has anyone experienced this weird problem ? I think it must have something to do with the Windows .avi filesize restriction but I am not sure.

What can I do to overcome it ? Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. : To what its worth, I have WinXP and the drive where I am capturing to is NTFS formatted. MPGEnc version is 2.56.39.143 -free version- (core version is 1.89.137). I am using the on-board VCD template of TMPGEnc.

Minion  2002-07-03 01:39:44 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well if the files play flawlessly in virtual dub try "frame serveing" the files from virtual dub, of use "virtual dub" to encode the 7 minute in file into a single high bitrate divx file, if you used divx 4.12 or 5 then encoded it to the max birtate of 6000kbs with 4.12 or 10,000 with 5, the file would be less than 100mb and have pretty much exactly the same quality..but frame serving from virtual dub would be your first best bet then if that don"t work encode to divx, just a thought....

It seems like this is a problem with the TMPGEnc version. I installed an older version (2.01.30.116) and everything worked normally.

Perhaps this is a bug ?

Question - Mr No.24348
Akaid  2002-07-02 22:28:22 ( ID:eeylgaggea2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am having trouble converting avi files to mpeg. I keep getting the following error after I click on Start :

"Can not be used as external encoder"

Please email me on akaid.quyam@ntlworld.com

Many thanks....Akaid

Minion  2002-07-03 01:29:17 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It sounds like you have got something set up for the external audio encoder that isn"t working or non compliant, go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "external tool" and make sure there are NO check marks in the boxes, this will turn off the external encoder but you would of had to install one first to get this error, but if you didn"t then I have no idea what is wrong...

Question - problem with sound in an .avi file No.24344
Bagatur  2002-07-02 21:56:52 ( ID:2cjarkgbnqr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i have an avi file and i have problems with it.
first of all, if i look at its properties, it doesnt show me details like
audio format, bitrate, video fortmat, bitrate, length, fps and so on.
then, if i try to open it with virtual dub, it would say that it's
unknown format.
then, if i try to encode it without extracting sound first, but by
raising "direct show" thingy in environmental properties - it would say
immediately that an error occurred opening ACM.
all this could possibly mean that it is corrupt, BUT i can play it in
windows media player and watch it there with sound and all.
so what's the problem? any ideas?

Minion  2002-07-03 01:24:47 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The audio is probably "ac3" so you need to download a "ac3 decoder" to extract the audio to a wav file then use that to encode in tmpgenc, you can"t use virtual dub to extract AC3 ...

Bagatur  2002-07-03 16:46:47 ( ID:2cjarkgbnqr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey, Minion.
I have AC3 decoder version 1.20

file - is it bacuse it's an unregistered version? or is it always like that?

Question - how much do you increase the bitrate to improve quality No.24341
webcat  2002-07-02 21:45:02 ( ID:jpecy53prkm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi i asked a question previously and it was answered .....how do i improve overall quality of movies that i'm encoding ...answer -the easiest way to improve quality is to increase bitrate.ok i get that but by how much a vcd the constant bitrate is set at 1150 but you can increase it but i don't know what to increase it to so it really does make the movie better to watch , clearer you know.if anyone can answer this for me thank you!

Minion  2002-07-03 01:21:21 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To increase the bitrate you have to load the "unlock.mfc" template in the "Extra" folder, now you can raise the bitrate as high as you want but the higher the bitrate the bigger the file size, with a bitrate if 1650kbs you will get about 60 minutes per cd-r with much improved quality, you can download a "bitrate calculator" at vcdhelp.com, this will tell you the max bitrate to use for the length of the file you are encodeing so you can fit it on # cd-r"s..

Question - is it possible to get rid of subtitles No.24339
webcat  2002-07-02 21:39:50 ( ID:jpecy53prkm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi i was just wondering if its possible to remove subtitles simply and easily somewhere in the encoding process.i encode movies to vcd and some of them have subtitles that i would like to remove somehow!

Minion  2002-07-03 01:12:26 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes and No, you can use the clip frame option to cut out the actual area were the subtitles are but you will have a movie that looks a bit stretched up and down, but you can"t just remoove them ,well not from an avi file....

Question - Won't Open DivX File No.24335
tvgm18  2002-07-02 20:27:55 ( ID:itod11blhy. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm having trouble. I want to convert an .avi file to .mpeg, but it won't open the file. It's encoded in Divx format, does that have an impact? It's Star Wars - Return of the Jedi. I have Divx 5 installed, but I want to convert this to VCD or SVCD. Any help is appreciated!

Eric

tvgm18  2002-07-02 20:35:05 ( ID:itod11blhy. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Nevermind...I read farther into BBS and found that raising the Direct Show Multimedia File Reader priority in "Environmental Settings" on the vfapi tab, to "2" solved my problem.

Bug report - MPG1 VCD Merge&Cut Audio Problems No.24333
Andreas Martin  2002-07-02 19:40:55 ( ID:dgehjtkohz2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!

I think there's a bug in the MPG stream tool. I've multiple MPG-1 files (ca. 1 GB large). I want to joint and split these, so that they fit on 2 CDs, splitted exactly by scene frame.

But everytime I do this with my mpgs (the originals tmpgenc plays them correct!)after the process have done, the audio is cutted after approx. 17 minutes off!
The second file has then no audio...
PS: the original file is created with DVDx V2.0 as VCD.

Regards,
Andreas Martin

Minion  2002-07-02 21:09:35 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is an OLD problem with the mpeg tools and you should never rely on them to work for you, you should allways have back up programs to do the job,a good muxer is "bbmpeg" and a good joiner and editer is "power vcr"(it is a capture program but has editing and joining features)or mpegvcr can do this to, and a good muxer and de-muxer is called "xmuxer", these tools are easy to find on a search engine, or downloaded off kazaa....

mot  2002-07-02 19:33:15 ( ID:hdy/pgzln0n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

how do you make a slide show of pics?

Minion  2002-07-02 21:05:02 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well that was a informitive question, i"ll have to guess what you want to do, you can take a bunch of bitmap or jpeg images and encode them into a mpeg file by nameing you images in this format: pic#01.jpg, pic#02.jpg pic#03.jpg ect, then you load in #1 and the rest will be loaded with it, then encode..

Question - IVTC Plugin? No.24329
Dpw  2002-07-02 18:57:28 ( ID:l6kfunnawgr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well I figured out AVISynth and the it has helped immensely. My picture quality has improved by frameserving directly from adobe premiere to TMPGEnc. But I was wondering. Where can I get the IVTC plugin for avisynth. It was suggested to me to use the copy duplicate coption of this plugin. Sounds like a good idea especially since the project I am working on in a slide show (lots of similar images) Thanks again for all the great suggestions.

Dan

Minion  2002-07-02 21:01:18 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can probably find the plugin at www.apachez.net ,but useing ivtc will change the frame fate of your file unless you are useing a different option of the plugin....
