Question - problems with DTS audio No.22471
gbagman37  2002-06-01 21:36:03 ( ID:rcx1rbxjg7m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have sucessfully made many movies in VCD format, now I have a problem with one movie(it has DTS audio). I have the ac3 filters(which I thought I needed). I ripped it with Smart Ripper fine, I used DVD2AVI to frameserve, but when I tried to encode with TMPEGEnc I get no audio on the resulting MPEG. I tried using DVDx to encode the vob's directly to MPEG's. But it said DTS audio not supported. Is there a plug-in I need to get this to work or what? And what is DTS(Dolby something). Why have I not come across this before? I have made over 200 VCD's.
Thanks in advance

Minion  2002-06-01 22:32:16 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There should be a different audio track for you to use, look in your "ifo" file that "smartripper" made, it should list all the audio tracks and choose a audio track like a "Dolby Digital AC3"..Most "DVD"s have up to 6 audio tracks, I have been looking on the net for you trying to find a program that would extract "DTS" to a "wav" file but most said that it could not be done..

Minion  2002-06-01 22:41:19 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is a program called "Besure" that claims that you can use it to extraxt the "DTS" track from your vob to wav files, but other articles read that you shouldn"t even be able to hear or play "DTS" on your computer, so I"m getting mixed messages, so i would look for a different audio track.....

gbagman37  2002-06-02 02:34:12 ( ID:rcx1rbxjg7m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the info, I looked into it(Besure), and what I found was a program call ac3tool, it extracts the ac3 file from vob, then can convert it too wav, mp3 or divx audio. Its free too. Its from BlackSunSoft.

Minion  2002-06-02 06:57:19 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

dolby digital Ac3 and "DTS" are different formats, "DTS" is "Dolby Theater Surround " and from what I have been reading there is now why to even listen to it on a computer,ac3 is easy to decode if you have the right software and there quite a few that do "dolby digital ac3"

Question - VCD files No.22468
marble8696  Home )  2002-06-01 19:19:40 ( ID:bor6.l1b3uh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

I used TMPG to convert a .AVI file into a .MPG because I wanted to make the file into a VCD.
I converted the original AVI file to:
MPEG-1 720x480 30FPS CBR 1150kbps
Layer-2 44100HZ 192kbps

But then when I tried to load the file into Easy Cd Creator 4.0 to burn to a VCD, it gave me an error message that said that the file would not work in a VCD player and that I would need to use a MPEG encoder that supported Video CD encoding. When I clicked the details tab, some things showed that they were unacceptable to the system:

Audio: 192 kbits/s (said it may be acceptable)
System Clock Reference: 1230 (said it was unacceptable)

Do I need to re-encode the AVI file with different settings? And if so, please inform me of what I need to change in the settings to get this to be able to be burned as a VCD.

Also, I replied to an earlier message about making the encoding process faster, but I'll just put it here for the sake of keeping my questions together.
It took me 30 hours to encode a 2 hour video. I saw that you earlier replied saying to check the "motion search precision"...where do I check that? And how do I check to see if I'm doing a 2-pass encode?

Thank you very much!

Hataian  2002-06-01 20:21:41 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can change this setting in the "settings" menu(choose the right tab,
the setting is somewhere there).

Minion  2002-06-01 22:11:52 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The reason that you are haveing this problem is because the resolution "720 by 480" is not in the "vcd" standard, and the frame rate is wrong it is supposed to be 29.97fps ,to make a compliant vcd the resolution has to be 352 by 240 for ntsc, and 352 by 288 for pal,.If you used one of the standard vcd templates you wouldn"t of had this problem, did you use the "unlock.mfc" template cuz that would have changed the settings.......

Can someone please tell me the reason why i get an error message when trying to load AVI files into TMPgenc, i get the error message (file not supported or cannot be opened) any they are AVI files,
Can you please help me

This is what someone replied to my same question...it worked for me...

Go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "vfapi plugins" and raise the "direct show" to about "2" and lower everything else to "0".....

I am using pinnacle's capture card to cap a avi file.
Anyone know what happening?

Question - Unable to recognize video codec No.22461
Galo  2002-06-01 18:55:27 ( ID:haaqtdzcfsm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I'm trying to encode an avi file, but TMPGEnc won't recognize the file as Stream and will take it as a sound file only. After encoding, file is as large as if it was complete, but no picture is visible.
The file is played fine in Win MediaPlayer but the system seems to be unable to identify the codec or at least to display its name. In file's Properties' Preview I get this msg: "Unable to find decompressor: vids:mp42".

What can I use or how can make TMPGEnc to recognize the file and encode it?

Here are the file's properties:
Audio: MPEG Layer-3,192 kBit/s, 48,000 Hz, Stereo
Video: 512 x 384, 33988 images, 23,976 images/s., 153 KB/s, unknown format

I have installed Divx 3.11, 4.12 and 5, overriding 3.11 playing with 4.12 codec.
Thanks!

Question - DIVX converting No.22456
quacka  2002-06-01 16:08:21 ( ID:e9m6bhblyfg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there a quick way to convert divx to vcd with this program? I load up the AVI fine and it encodes the video fine. But some how it dont detect and encode the audio from the avi. Possibly because its mp3?

ASHY  2002-06-01 16:14:57 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Use Virtualdub to extract the audio to a wav and use that as your audio source.

maze  2002-06-01 17:39:08 ( ID:hxjbfoabs7h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use Virtual Dub as mentioned above, I refer to vcdhelp.com for the instructions for the audio. Then use TMPGEnc to merge the two files together. This has worked fine for me and had no probs. Check for diff versions of VirtualDub and make sure you have correct Divx codecs installed. vcdhelp.com is a mine of info.

Question - Is there any way to make the process shorter? No.22449
Skap  2002-06-01 15:16:25 ( ID:h8qrv0bl5aw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there any thing i can to do to make the encoding process faster. It take about 23 hours total to burn a 1 1/2 hour movie. Thanks for your reply

ASHY  2002-06-01 16:13:56 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

23 hrs!!??
Jaysus what are you running there a 486?
No seriously what are your specs?

Make sure you haven't got the motion search precision set to higher or highest. Set it to normal or to encode faster set it to 'motion estimate search'. Also check to make sure you're not doing a 2pass encode.

Hi, where do I check the motion search precision? My computer also took 30 hours to encode a 2 hour video. And how do I check to see if I'm doing a 2-pass encode?

Thanks

Minion  2002-06-01 23:59:05 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You know what encodeing method you are useing by looking at the "rate controll mode" in the "settings" screen, and the "motion precition search" is on the bottom of that same screen...but wow 30 hours ,thats like 4 minutes and hour,I have a fairly slow system(800mhz p3)and it takes less than half that, what kind of system are you running under, there should be some way to go faster unless you got a ,like ashy said a 486.....

Anonymous  2002-06-02 04:09:32 ( ID:vl0pdpavzih )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

On a 1.5GHz AMD Athlon, encoding a 2:30 720x480 MPEG-1 video using highest motion estimation takes 23:50. I'm not sure how reduced the quality would have been if it was done with "normal" motion estimation.

Minion  2002-06-02 08:53:44 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is definately something wrong, mine is half that speed and more than twice as fast encodeing and with the encoder I usually use I can do a 2 hour movie in 5 hours..try doing a selective start up so you don"t have anything running in the backround while encodeing, and re-install tmpgenc ,but if you keep getting this slow of a encodeing speed get someone to check out your computer cuz there is something wrong.....

ASHY  2002-06-03 17:05:35 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

P4 1.7ghz (O/C 1.9 ghz) 256mb DDR 100ata 7200 hard drive.
A 2 hr movie on the highest quality setting takes 14hrs 15min.

It is pointless choossing the 'highest quality' setting as it doesn't yield any higher quality than the 'high quality' setting. I have thoughroughly tested this many times. Even the 'high quality' setting is only very slightly better than 'normal'.

On the 'high' setting the same movie would take less than half the time above which means if you really want max quality it would be quicker to do a 2pass encode using the 'high' quality setting than doing a 1pass 'highest' quality encode.
It's just not worth it considering the extra time it takes to encode using 'highest quality'

Question - No picture No.22442
Jens  2002-06-01 12:33:06 ( ID:unp0axa0w2o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi

I had a problem with the picture being distorted with a pink blurr..
I read on this BBS, that if I had Angel Potion installed, remove it.. I did..
The pink blurr dissapeared along with the picture...

Then I read I could ger the VFAPI plugin and install it.. I did...

I still have no picture when making a avi to mpg

The picture shows fine in Windows Media Player..

ASHY  2002-06-01 12:39:30 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is a long standing problem with the angel potion codec.
Some people solve it by uninstalling the codec and installing MS mpeg 4 codecs or by re-installing the angel potion codec and removing all other mpeg4 codecs.

Try both ways see what happens.

ASHY  2002-06-01 12:56:36 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It should seek through the video then the audio and the a little wait and then the multiplexing should begin.

If it doesn't start after a good 10 mins or so you can assume the program has has frozen.

This sometimes works.
Totally remove TMPG from your system, download another copy, preferably the latest version, from another source and re-install it.
Now have another go.

I have just converted a avi film to mpeg burned it on to a cd to play on my dvd player, the quality is pretty good but the audio is slightly out of sync, any ideas on how to sort this out would be much appreciated. please note I have converted the same avi files using versions 2.02.31.119 and 2.54.37.135 and still the audio is slightly out of sync

Also is there any other vcd templates I can use to get top quality.

Ok, there have been documented cases of early versions of NERO causing sync probs on some players.
This was a bug and was corrected in one of the earlier versions.
Download the latest version and try again. If you still get the problem then you will have to try a different burning sofware.
Two I know of which have been known to solve the problem are VCDeasy and Instant CD/DVD 6.5

Question - Problem with Single Multiplexing No.22421
Skater8764  2002-06-01 11:18:29 ( ID:vugu2owayyk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I try to single multiplex a SVCD in a MPEG format,I get an error that reads, "246845s Packets cause buffer undeflow. THe MPEG file may cause error when it played." What I amj trying to do is do the thing where if you put a SVCD in the video input, and select the type as MPEG-1 Video-CD, it will create a new MPEG file that tricks your DVD player into thinking it is reading a VCD, when in fact it is reading a SVCD. The reason I want to do this is because my DVD player will not read SVCDs, only VCDs. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. THank you.

ASHY  2002-06-01 11:47:12 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You will always get this error in most cases because what you are doing isn't a natural thing for TMPG to do.
You may be able to lessen the effect by using the MPEG1 VCd(non standard) setting, but don't worry to much about the buffer undrflow warning it will probably still play ok in your player.

ASHY

Minion  2002-06-01 22:03:10 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don"t use the "multiplex "for this or you will usually get this error , load your file in the merge & cut with the "vcd/mpeg1" setting and just click "run" and it will make a copy of your file with the proper headers and no error.

Does Tmpgenc work with any of the hardware encoding boards on the market? If so which ones.

Minion  2002-06-01 06:58:15 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don"t know what you mean ,If you have a hardware encodeing board you don"t need "tmpgenc",If the board does the encodeing what would you need a software encoder for, hardware encoders encode in "real time" from an external source where software encoders take there sweet time encodeing from a source on your hard drive, I don"t know of any way to or any reason to use a software encoder with an encodeing board...

ASHY  2002-06-01 10:58:40 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm. Your not getting TMPG confused as some kind of MPEG capture software are you that you can use with a hardware capture board.
TMPG is not capture software, it is a software MPEG encoder.
