Bug report - Memory leak when encoding from .WMV No.19091
EyeBaLL  Home )  2002-04-16 12:46:59 ( ID:xwzk2dlid/2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

Several months ago I had made a backup of my DVD Jeanne d'Arc using windows media 8 encoder. Now I bought a new dvd player that can play VCD so I tried to convert my .WMV file to VideoCD with TMPGEnc 2.53. I could not do it because when encoding the program starts eating more and more memory until I have no disk space left. I am running Windows 98 SE on a Celeron 400 with 128 Megs of ram. The only way I could convert this .WMV file to .MPG has been to reencode it to .WMV but using MP43 codec and not WMV2 codec, then using AsfTools to convert it to .AVI, then change the fourcc to DIV3.

I think there is somewhere a problem in the directshow source filter you use, maybe it does not deallocate the frames that are already read or something like this... Please check this issue.

Thank you for developing such a great encoder

the problem is that "tmpgenc"isn"t really supposed to encode wmv even though there are ways around it ,try re-nameing the wmv to asf. and the other problem is that your computer is to slow, mine is twice as fast and 4 times the memory and "tmpgenc" sucks up all my memory(ram not hd)

Let's see, I used the wizard and if I chose a template, I probably chose VCD 80mins.
I also used the wizard in Nero to burn it.

I am, however, using very inexpensive CD-R's. (Some people would say cheap!)

The DVD player is 3 weeks old. It is a Koss and was sold by Sears for $99.99/
(It was a gift) It states that it plays all formats except some of the older stuff.

I will try some better quality CD-R's or maybe CD-RW's.

Also, Why is there no help file for TMPGenc? It seems like a great program.

BTW...thanks for all of the advice.....

Question - Blocky Video where Still Title Starts the Movie No.19087
Gillette  2002-04-16 04:24:05 ( ID:k6hgy9s1hlj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use Studio 7 to edit and encode to AVI. Then, using TMPGEnc, I encode to MPEG2, then burn to SVCD and play the 30 minute movie on my Hitachi 505 stand-alone DVD player. Normally, it works very good. Last two times using the same CD-RW disk, I got some blocky artifacts at the start of the movie. The start of the movie is a still title with music in the background. After the still title has played, the movie plays flawlessly to the end. This happened twice and has never happened before. So, I looked into the setting of TMPGEnc 2.51 and it had "No motion search for still picture part by half pixel." Wonder if that was the problem? I use 2-pass VBR (new)2450max, 1950ave, 800min, High Quality. I tried it with "Motion Estimate Search", but got blocky results at the start of the movie also.

Got any ideas or suggestions, please?

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-16 09:18:36 ( ID:gdoi5fzrbsw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm.

Try with a NEW cd-rw or try with a ordinary CD-R just to make sure it's not the cd-rw disc.

Oh and another thing, try to burn the CD at 2X speed and with "track-at-once". I burn with 4X usualy but not more since some standalones have problems reading the disc if you burn fastar than 4X. The thing is if the standalone encounters some error or read problem it slows down and the blockyness will accour I think.

And another thing. Try and keep the filesize of the encoded file to 800mb I know there are files out there that are 813 or 824mb but I have had problems burning them since I found out that some cd-r's get wasted because that people are pushing the maximum data onto cd's.

Hmm extract the audio from the avi file and use the uncompressed wav file for sound scource and the avi for video scource, then encode it, will work fine then.

Managed to encode divx/avi file to mpg format with tmpg enc but it is too bit too copy onto a cd. Tried to cut/edit movie with mpeg tools but when i get to the bit where it asks you to move the slider to the middle part of the movie the slider does not move and the program stops responding. Any answers?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-16 09:38:49 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You may have frames corrupted.

use something like DIVXFIX for ur avi file and see if it can fix it.

TMPGENC never lies! :)

Before you move any slider, try to click start and then click Pause right away, now you can try to move your sliders.

increase the directshow filter to a higher priority also, tick or untick all of the check boxes in the quantize matrix settings.

Question - TMPGEnc introducing block noise? No.19076
dooger  2002-04-15 22:05:24 ( ID:5rbfrqoczch )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

In converting an AVI to SVCD (2-pass VBR, 1700 avg. bitrate, high quality motion search, v2.53), it seems that TMPGEnc is actually introducing some block noise that's not apparent in the original. I'm not using any "soften block noise" options in TMPGEnc because the original is a very clean DVD rip in DivX format. Could it be related to my DivX codec v4.12 - I've seen a lot of anti v4.x and v5.x DivX discussion on this board? Any suggestions? The original AVI resolution is 576 x 304, and I'm using the "Full Screen - keep aspect ratio" setting.

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-16 09:30:54 ( ID:.uhbhxbi0ng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm. I have had the same problem.

I guess you have to live with some blocky noise in some frames since of verry fast movement, but you could try to put the AVG. bitrate up to maby 2300 or something. As long as it fit's onto two 2 cd's or 3 cd's or maby 4 cd's.

Use the Hightest motion search as well.

Other than that, I don't think you can do a whole lot more If you want to stick to the SVCD standard with the templates. Allso set the Lowest Bitrate to 300 because some players don't like it if there is no data to process. Or maby "padding byte" fixes that too, donno about that.

Since you use 2-pass VRB I think that a higher AVG. bitrate will make the blockyness go away, at least so it's not disturbing.

A nother way to fix it is to use 4-pass or 5-pass VBR, but that is not supported in Tmpgenc and I have learn that it dosn't matter if you have a good scource like DVD file.

/Regards Dennis.

Question - Windows XP Problem No.19074
Trisha1109  2002-04-15 22:02:06 ( ID:ujv2ebjxawc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I cannot use TMPGenc to split files since i bought a new pc running Windows XP. Is this a known problem, adn therefore is it going to be dealt with, or is it just something that I may be doing. I get an address error message every time i try.

I can still convert from avi to mpg, it just seems to be using the tools that is a problem. Any ideas please?

gbagman37  2002-04-15 22:19:27 ( ID:aks1ajzl/6r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have Xp. I get that error message every time I use Merge/Cut. Just ignore it, it doesn't affect the video

Question - Is it supposed to take 13 hours to convert mpeg to svcd? No.19067
peman  Home )  2002-04-15 20:38:43 ( ID:nmpkbtjcmlk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is it really supposed to take 13 hours to convert mpeg to svcd? The mpeg file is about 689mb...

Techno  Home )  2002-04-15 20:55:06 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

nope, it is not suppose to take that long.

What filters are you using?

uninstall the MPEG2 filters u have (like DVD software) and download and install the LIGOS filters, it will be much faster with the same quality.

webs1  2002-04-15 21:14:05 ( ID:bhhuzv.slg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think it also depends on your hardware. A Pentium 3 500 is the minimum recommended processor. I use a Pentium 2 350,so for me, 13 hours for an SVCD conversion is about what it takes.

ffast  2002-04-16 04:37:48 ( ID:rq73n1voqvj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I totally agree with webs1.
It depends on your hardware specification, and your setting.
"689MB" and "13hours" sounds within "possible" for me.

Uninstalling DVD software and installing another MPEG-2 codec may have
different result, but not always good, sometime gets worse, so
I do not recommend that unless you do that on your own risk.

Techno  Home )  2002-04-16 10:28:05 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

of course, it depends on your CPU speed. Make sure that you are not doing anything in the background as it will take more time encoding!

if it is a DIVX v5 avi then TMPGENC is not compatable with it.

uninstall the DIVX v5 codec
install v 4.11 or v4.12 codec of DIVX

then load the avi and encode in TMPGENC

all should be well :)

I have an Avi File. While Encoding the preview window is black and after Encoding the whole mpg-file is black with sound. Is this because it is a Divx-format?
