Question - Using MSP6.5, encode AVI and input into DVD Plugin No.18097
bseidner  2002-04-05 03:46:45 ( ID:dl0oticiiew )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use MSP6.5 and very disappointed with the MPEG2 encoder. I would like to use Tmpeg instead - but Need to know how. I think that I can render to a DV type 1 file and input that into TMPEGe for encoding. Then input that file into the MSP dvd plug in. If this is possible, is the DV type 1 file the right type? And what template will give me the BEST MPEG2 encode for NTSC reguardless of encode time? If this works well it will save me!

Thanks!

Joe  2002-04-05 18:56:39 ( ID:8h5c2vso9qm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have tried editing software from Ulead, Pinnacle and MGI and all the mpeg encoders suck. Nothing can beat te quality in TMPGenc. I'm using exactly that technique. DV -> Edit -> DV then encode in TMPGenc and author (I'm using TSCV).
Just be careful to use a DV AVI type2, TMPGenc won't read type1.

bseidner  2002-04-06 02:43:37 ( ID:ahboazw.fqm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Joe, it will read type 1 and becoase I have raptor it will also read avi files with the rapter codec too! I did not know this until I tried it. Of course I am using the latest version of TMPGe

Question - AUDIO PB ? No.18092
aeco  2002-04-05 01:01:50 ( ID:uculvhpqcsm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi
I'm using Version 2.53.35.130 . Works fine to make a mpeg file for VCD !!!
example :
avi files (Video-CD PAL (MPEG-1 352x288 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 128kbps),
original audio format is here : MPEG Layer-3, 111 kbit/s, 44100Hz, Stereo
But...
with the following settings, but with another audio format (MPEG Layer-3, 147 kbit/s, 48000Hz, Stereo) NO SOUND on the mpeg file created ...!!!

Has anyone experienced this ? how can I fix that ??

thank you for helping...

techno  Home )  2002-04-05 08:04:52 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

use virtualdub to convert the audio to 44100hz and save it as a wav, then load in TMPGENC and encode.

Techno

Rck60s  2002-04-05 19:19:47 ( ID:ottpma61s8h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

how exactly is this done...I seem to have lost the sound on one I conbverted last night...

Techno  Home )  2002-04-05 21:29:19 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

load in the mpeg/avi file u r trying to convert, in virtualdub.

goto audio > conversion and change to 16bit stereo 44100hz and click ok

then goto file > save wav and type in a name to save it as

then open the video and wav in TMPGENC and encode

Question - audio screech at merged mpg joint No.18088
Fishfinder  Home )  2002-04-05 00:50:41 ( ID:xhhbb4qb/fk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Merged 2 mpeg-2 files for SVCD use. Very audible screech (like a phonograph needle across a vinyl lp) at the joint. Multiplexed it which seemed to lessen the effect (or maybe I had the volume lower) but did not eliminate it. Any suggestions? TIA!

Nick

techno  Home )  2002-04-05 08:04:04 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Make sure the audio is 44100Hz and a bitrate of about 224

Techno

Fishfinder  Home )  2002-04-05 18:56:28 ( ID:qid/0i5x6gc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Audio was set at those requirements.

Fishfinder  Home )  2002-04-06 08:08:59 ( ID:xhhbb4qb/fk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The point where I cut and merged the .mpg file happened to be at a transition between scenes in original .avi file. I cut a couple frames earlier which eliminated the loud squelch but now I have a very noticeable lack of sound. Any recommendations???

Question - 23.976 FPS -> 29,97 FPS No.18084
WinuX  Home )  2002-04-05 00:33:16 ( ID:ewtqjovytkn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a problem with conversion from AVI to SVCD MPEG-2. I use VirtualDub and add subtitles and save a WAV-file. I frameserve in VirtualDub and open the .vdr-file in TMPG. As audiofile I choose the wavfile I saved. The movie is in 23,976 FPS so I choose the template SVCD(NTSCFilm). When the conversion is over I open the movie. Now the audio is still in 23,976 FPS and the video is in 29,97 FPS. Why is it so?? I want my file in 23,976 FPS, so if someone can help I'll be so glad.

techno  Home )  2002-04-05 08:03:32 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

once the template is loaded, load the unlock.mcf and change the required settings. then encode, this should help.

WinuX  Home )  2002-04-05 10:40:26 ( ID:ewtqjovytkn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've tried that too. The problem is that you can't choose 23,976 FPS. It's stands 23,976 FPS (internally 29,97 FPS). The video look really weird when it's played in 29,97 FPS. It's LOTR I try to fix.

WinuX  Home )  2002-04-05 13:41:23 ( ID:ewtqjovytkn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I fix it myself. TMPG automatically change to 23,976 (internally 29,97 FPS) FPS when you choose 3:2 pulldown. So now I'm running interlace or something and now it's works fine.

Question - Determining optimum MP2 bit rate? No.18081
Ron  2002-04-05 00:00:58 ( ID:2qwolc2ya/. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need to make DVD's from a variety of sources from 200 line VHS tapes on up. My question is this... Since I really don't have the expertise to determine the optimum bit rates for different source material, is there some way to prescan a portion of the AVI file, and have TMPGEnc-Plus recommend the best bit rate to use? I had hoped that by using VBR, it would do this automatically, but so far not much luck, besides, I'd like to get some idea of how many minutes of source material I'll be able to put on the DVD prior to committing the encode and burn time.

Question - mpeg2 ,change 720 by 480 to 480 by 480svcd?????? No.18076
sherlock  2002-04-04 22:41:57 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a mpeg2 file that I want to make a svcd out of but it is 720 by 480 and I need it 480 by 480, is there a way to do this with out re-encodeing the file??
If I multi-plex it in svcd mode will this change it to the desired format??I don"t want to re-encode it because tmpgenc says it will take 39 hours, can any one help?........thanx

techno  Home )  2002-04-05 08:02:32 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

to my knowledge, unfortunately not, there may be a way, just a matter of looking for the method.

Sorry the only way is to re-encode, but here's a nice little tip for you.
Rather than open the MPEG2 file directly in TMPGenc. First demultiplex the file and open the m2v file in DVD2AVI and create a d2v project file and use this in TMPG instead.
This should speed things up considerably.

sherlock  2002-04-06 22:44:26 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I cant use d2v files cuz it takes to long, like days to do a movie and even longer if I try the "vfapi converter"but it is pretty quick if I use dvd2avi to make a real avi....so that is what I do now or I frame serve in to cce....

Ashy  2002-04-07 12:53:09 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sherlock I think your missing the point.
The point was that the only way to change the frame size is to re-encode and usind the DVD2AVI method to create a d2v will be far faster than opening the MPEG2 in TMPG directly, usually at least 3-4 times faster.

Well your right it is quicker to make an Avi Sherlock, but in the long run it still takes just as long or longer with this method.
I used to use that method. I used to have a P3 500 which would take about 8-9 hrs to do a vcd from a d2v.
With the Avi method it would take about 5-6 hrs to convert to Avi then another 5-6 hrs to convert the Avi to VCD. In total 10-12 hrs and all that with more messing about and a very noticable loss in quality.
Trust me I have been doing this a long time and have done 100+ VCD and SVCD movies in top quality and quality matters most to me.
My advice to you if you want to speed things up is to open the d2v file in TMPG and frame serve that to CCE, this should make things nearly twice as fast, but I don't think the quality of MPEG1 is as good in CCE as in TMPG whereas the quality of MPEG2 is definitely better in CCE.

I think you will eventually use the DVD2AVI method because as any experienced encoder will tell you this is probably the best method there is.
Most beginners use your method, but if your intent is to create a VCD then you will eventually realise this is a waste of time and quality.

Much thanks!

sherlock  2002-04-04 22:52:37 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

well the p3p package optimizes tmpgenc to work better with pentium 3,to get rid of this error go to "enviromental settings" and to the "cpu" tab and un-chech every thing there, this should work.......
