I am encoding an avi that was captured from a miniDV camcorder using Microsofts capture program tah comes with WinXP. Vertical lines like the corner of a wall or cabinet look fine in the original avi. When I encode the avi using the DVD template in TMPGEnc at 8000kbps (all default settings) the vertical lines are wavy when the camera pans. Any help in correcting this would be greatly appreciated.
I think that only using one field would reduce the resolution by 1/2, no? I am trying to find a way to eliminate the wavy verticals and keep the resolution.
I have tried all suggestions on this BBS short of formatting my Hard Drive (which is OUT OF THE QUESTION). If i tell TMPGEnc to "merge&cut", I CAN get it to create a playable output file (even though when I try to edit it I get a DirectShow error). The problem is when I burn the VCD I get no sound at all, just the video. I should state that this is an SVCD MPEG2 file that I want to convert to MPEG1 for VCD playback.
I used Nero to burn the VCD and when I added the mpg file Nero asked to reencode it due to improper format. My first reaction was to allow Nero to do this. This caused me to lose sound. If I tell Nero to "Turn of standard compliance" the VCD works with no problems.
So, if there is anyone else out there that is having these same problems, this may be a way to resolve the issue.
When you use the merge/cut make sure the top drop down choice is set to MPEG-1 VCD and NOT the standard one that is displayed. If you do this then nero will not say that ii is non-standard. I had this problem and this completely corrected it!
I think that next version should include multiple encoding, meaning select a couple of movies to encode to mpeg. This feature will be great becuase i encode movies mostly at night when i'm a sleep and if i could incode a few movies over night and not just one it would be great!
This is already supported in TMPG and has been for ages.
I'll give you a clue it's called Batch encode.
If you can't work it out either I or someone else will tell u how.
hi, I downloaded vob to audio, but I can"t seem to get it to work,I choose the vob list then choose the target file, when I click on audio stream nothing happens and when I click start nothing happens,do you have the instructions for the program?it seems straight forward, but maybe im an idiot,I"ll try re-installing it,but if you know what i"m doing wrong please let me know.....thanx
thanx ashy,it turns out that on mt computer useing dvd2avi. is much quicker it takes about 10-12 min,and it takes allmost that long just to set up vob to audio.but your help is muchly appriciated I"ll try playing around with it ,it seems a little complicated at first but i"m sure i"ll get the hang of it.....
thanx ashy you rule.............sherlock
A choppy playback is indeed what's happening. I use a DVDplayer to play de VCD's I make. I'm using the template which gives 'Video-CD PAL (MPEG-1 352x288 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)' which fits the Dutch television standard.
Maybe it is caused by the template? I'm using the right template. So all the VCD I'm using have this problem.

Now there is a way to acheive the correct framerate for your T.V. system without the choppy playback and have perfect A/V sync, but I'm not going to post the instructions on how to do this unless you repost and request them as I don't want to waste my time posting incase you do not read this post.
My answer:
I'm very interested in your post. I've read it and I hope you wil post the instructions. So do others? Thanks in advance...............
An example: Start Trek 640x480 30 Frames/sec will be converted to VCD-format:
Video-CD PAL (MPEG-1 352x288 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)
Is this enough information? Tnx!
Techno regarding your problem of not being able to open MPEG2 files which have been encoded with TMPG.
This solution works for me. Don't ask me why because I havn't figured it out yet.
Any way all you have to do is simply De-multiplex the MPEG2 file and open the seperate Video and Audio files in TMPG. Also for some reason opening MPEG2 files which TMPG has created creates a wierd effect in the preview screen, but this doesn't affect the actual movie.
I have a problem, i just reformated and when i decompressed a dvd rip, i was going to encode an avi video into mpeg format using TMPGEnc, and it told me that i needed direct x so i downloaded the lastest version from the microsoft website, and also downloaded divx 3.11 alpha and divx 5.0 pro, but even though, while encoding, it encodes but the problem is that ----> THE VIDEO IS NOT RUNNING WHILE I AM ENCODING, and when it is done encoding, only the audio plays. This has happened ever since I reformated my hard drive so it might be something (like a codec) that i need to install or something, but i dont know why the video does not play while i am encoding the movie, i am waiting to encode a movie so PLEASE respond, email me!!!
when I use the merge and cut feature, the movie in the screen is upside down and in negitive, the same when I try to play it in media player,it plays fine in power dvd,do I have to get rid of power dvd ,I have mpeg1/2 play back built in to my video card,so I shouldn"t have this problem, and I have all the codecs, well the good ones, the movies are fine when I burn them so it"s no big deal,I just want to know.........thanx
I had the same problem I installed Tsunami-Filter-Pack and Nimo Codec Pack they installed a Bicubic size codec and this somehow invert and do lots of stuff to the video. They also include a GX400 that is kind of like a Gui so you can change features in those codecs on mine I told it to permanently invert the output.
I have read that some people complaint that a mpg looks good in the DVD player but not that good in the computer. The answer was that the DVD Player have an integrated Bicubic sizer on it (of course by software) and that the reason for the codec to get better result on playback of your VCD or SVCD.
what kind of avi. are you trying to encode?if it is a dvix5 it isn"t very compatible, and just haveing the divx5 codec can cause problems,I don"t know what to say cuz I don"t know your movie specs,or what you are trying to encode to......
