How to use virtualdub to frameserve TMPGEnc ?
I add subtitles to video using VirtualDub, save it to avi file, then using tmpenc to create mpg file sucessfully(avi as video input source, wav as audio source) However avi file is HUGE !!! (40 GB or bigger), how can I framserve from VirtualDub to TMPGEnc to eliminate this huge avi file ? Please help, thanks a lot
Frame serveing is Pretty easy with V-Dub..First you have to install the Handler, you do this By double clicking the "AuxSetup.exe" file in the V-Dub folder, then click "Install handler"..Now run V-Dub and Load your File in and do all of the settings you want like you were going to make a New File, Once you have set up V-Dub the way you want like you were going to make a New file go to "File" to "Start Frameserver" and a Little Box will pop up and Press "Start" in the Box and then you will have to give the Frameserver file a Name, Name it anything But give it a ".vdr" extention, now just load your "Movie.vdr" frameserver file into Tmpgenc and encode it Like normal, You might have to Dis-Able the "Direct Show File reader" in the "Vfapi Plugins" if you have problems Loading the VDR File or Getting an Image in the VDR File...Good Luck...
Anyone using a P4 processor with Hyper-Threading technology? What kind of results (time to encode, quality, etc.) are you getting with the latest version of TMPGEnc?

System: P4 3.0 HT/800 MHz FSB, 2 GB DualChannel 3500 RAM, Asus P4C800 MB, 3WD Raptor 36 GB 10k SATA drives (non-RAID; one for source, output to second), overclocked to 3.16 GHz
I just ran the movie "Dave" through a little while ago using (SmartRipper > DVD2AVI > TMPGEnc Plus) "Normal priority" at all times, (16:9 NTSC Full Screen (keep aspect ratio) as SVCD CBR 2500 bps, Motion search "Normal", no filters in 1 hour 25 minutes.
Hmmm, 85 minutes for a 110 minute movie... I'm happy! It probably would've been a bit faster where I not using the computer while it encoded, too.
Almost 1/3 faster than real-time?!?! That's awesome Thumper! Sounds like a great system (drool*drool). From what I've read about the 3.0C P4s and that Asus board, you're not pushing it all that much. Why not crank it up further? Memory holding you back? BTW, have you tried TMPGEnc's DVD Author yet?
When i try to convert an .avi file to a .mpg file it only converts audio and leaves video as a black screen! I asked my friend and he says that its because i didnt register it. I checked out how to register it and there was nothing on it! HELP!
No It has nothing to do with registering..Try this, Go to "options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct Show Multi-Media File Reader" to "2"..there will not be an image in the file if you do not see an image in the screen while encodeing...
I,ve been using tmpgenc to encode mpeg files for vcd for some time now. However I've recently downloaded some avi files of tv shows and want to encode to vcd but evry time i try, tmpgenc crashes my system and it resets itself. I'm using XP home edition with an Athlon 1800 and 352 mb ram.
Does anybody have any suggestions why this might be and what could be done to solve the problem?
If it crashes at the same spot every time then it would be a Problem with the file But if it happens at different spots I don"t know what it could be...
Use "Virtual Dub_Mod" to extract the audio from the DivX file to Wav format then use the Wav files as the Audio source..Virtual DubMod handles VBR Mp3 audio better than the regular Virtual Dub, You can also Try useing AVI-Mux to extract the audio....
I tried something like that, but the final result is audio non syncronized with video.
They started correctly but at the end of the movie the delay is around 2 mins .

If you trying to create the high quelity DVD I suggest you look at http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html This is bar far the best site explaining the various settings of the TMPGEnc and suggesting the correct setting. I do use them in my project and get excelent results.
Generally speaking if your Source Footage is of Good Quality you should use the "CQ(Constant Quality)" setting and adjust the Bitrate and Quality settings to your Needs, if your Source footage isn"t as good you might get better Quality useing the 2 Pass setting, The site Posted above has a Good explanation of the Different setting there are in Tmpgenc...
Last night I started a new project to convert my MPEG into dvd format so I could make a DVD out of it. It went through and encoded the video and it worked great. This morning I started a new project to do the same thing and tried it with the same video and now it says my MPEG isn't supported. I haven't changed any settings since last night. I don't get it.
Is it a Mpeg1 or Mpeg2 file?? For Mpeg1 files you should Raise the Priority of the "Direct Show File Reader" to "2", To load Mpeg2 files into Tmpgenc you have to have a Mpeg2 decoder installed, Either Ligos or Cyberlink Decoders, but it is Best to Use DVD2AVI to frameserve the Mpeg2 file to tmpgenc...
If you have the Right Mpeg2 Decoders Installed then you shouldn"t have any Problems with Mpeg2 files, and they need to have there Priorities set high enough in the Vfapi Plugins..But like I said before I find it faster and I don"t get any Sync Problems If I use DVD2AVI and frameserve the Mpeg2 Video file to Tmpgenc....
I get the following error message when converting from xvid avi to vcd mpeg
"Write error occurred at address 77f83a91 of module ntdll.dll with 00000000"
Anyone got any ideas??
I am Using windows xp on a celeron 800 with 512 MB RAM.
Hello,
Does anybody know if it's possible to reduce the size of a .avi or .mpeg when it exceeds the size of a VCD by just a few minutes ? (without cutting part of the film)
It would be a pity to be obliged to create a second VCD each time there is just a few minutes more than accepted on a single VCD.
I tried with virtual dub to reduce first the source avi file, but it does not work (or I can't make it work), and I tried to reduce the bitrate in TmpgEnc, but it does not allow it to me (perhaps is it due to the fact it is a freeware ?)
Reduseing the Size of the AVI file wouldn"t work anyways Because the size of the AVI file has no effect on the Size of the Mpeg/VCD File, what matters is the Length of the AVI file..And yes you can Reduce the Bitrate which will also reduce the Quality of the Mpeg file which will allready be Low because VCD is a Pretty Crappy Format for Quality in the First Place..But if you want to lower the Bitrate all you have to do is click were it says "Bitrate" in the Video settings then set it to "Unlock", Or you can Load the "Unlock.mfc" Template from the "Extra Folder" this will Unlock All of the settings..You will also have to go to "Settings" to "System" and set the Drop Down Menu to "Video-CD Non-Standard" if you don"t do this the File will not get smaller even though the Bitrate is lower....
PS: you would be better off getting some "700mb 80 Minute" CD"s and useing the "OverBurn" option to get the extra Minute on the CD cuz you would have to lower the Bitrate quite a Bit to get 81 minutes on a 74 minute CD-R which would make the Movie allmost unwatchable....
When I encode avi to mpeg there is a pink/purple color that creeps onto the screen, disappears, then repeats.
I have looked for the Angle codec, and can't find it on my system.
I have raised "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader" to Priority 2 (top priority) in TMPGE.
In Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia Properties... the following Video Compression Codecs are listed...
Cinepak Codec by Radius Inc
DivX 5.02 Codec
DivX Codec 4.12
Indeo codec by Intel
Indeo video 5.10
Microsoft RLE Codec
Microsoft Video 1
msh261.drv
msh263.drv
On2 VP3 Video Codec
Xvid MPEG-4 Video Codec
When I try to delete any of them using the 'remove' button, they just reapear.
When I use GSPOT to check out the avi movie (which by the way plays fine using DIVX player 2.0) it says the Video Codec is "DivX 5.0". Under DirectShow Render it says it used "AVI Decompressor 0001 --> AVI Decompressor 0002-->Color Space Converter".
That's all the information I can think to provide. Thanks.
Used TMPGEnc to encode captured VHS to MPEG2 to author a DVD. Used aggressive TMPGEnc settings to get highest quality possible (2-pass VBR / 8000 max bitrate/ 6000 average bitrate, P and B values of zero, 10 bit DC component, highest quality motion search, GOP-IPB: 1/2/2, interlaced for TV playback. Although the images are quite clean, motion is jerky and bothersome to the eye. What setting(s) could I change to correct this?
There are a Couple Reasons why you can get Jumpy Playback, One Reason is if you have the Wrong Field Order set you will Just a Jumpy effect when there is any Movement on the screen, another reason could be that you have encoded the File to whe wrong Frame rate ,If the Source file has to have the Same frame rate as the Mpeg file you are encodeing it to, Meaning if you are Makeing a NTSC DVD you have to Capture the Movie at 29.97fps and encode it to that Frame rate and For Pal capture at 25fps and encode to that Frame rate...The Last reason I can think of that would cause a Jumpy Choppy effect while Playing on your DVD Player is then file is suffereng from "Bitrate Spikes" this Happens when the Bitrate Spikes higher than your DVD Player can Handle ,Tmpgenc has a Problem with this because it has Extremely Bad Bitrate controll, If this is the Problem it will Seem like the Video sometimes Plays slower that the audio and the Video stutters then the Video will seem to speed back up and be in sync with the audio again but will go out again when the next Bitrate spike happens, these Files will all seem to play Fine on your Computer But not on your DVD Player...Well these are the Only reasons I can think of...
I found similar question but this is a bit different. I had a avi file with almost 2 hours long and when I added subtltle and encoded it, it became 1.5gb.
I tried to split it two burnable files. It showed "Divide zero error"(not sure). And solution for this?
Well there are No Magic settings in the editor that will make it work when it doesn"t want to, so then Only Solution is to Use something else to Edit the Files, There are Freeware Mpeg1 and Mpeg2 editors out there, Like for Mpeg2 there is "Chopper XP" and "Mpeg2Cut" and for Mpeg 1 I can"t think of one But I"m sure you can find one...
