Question - HighLight With PhotoShop doesn't work correct No.48926
FutureCow  2004-01-03 02:25:21 ( ID:momqdzyeghf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if made an image with a HighLight layer in Photoshop. I add this picture to my DVD-Menu. and after creating the menu and i don't select the button it is normal, but when i select the button it is not the Exactly the highlight that i have created.

the above image is the image i have created (the stripe is the Highlight, and is not vissible on the normal image) and the other image is the image on my DVD-Menu. How can i fix this?

hustbaer  2004-01-13 02:40:55 ( ID:gbemr.lp.t6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi!

highlights dont work that way in TDA.
and they dont work that way in any authoring app i know.

what you can do in TDA is, make a Photoshop file with a layer called "highlight".
every pixel in this "highlight" layer that is not 100% transparent will get highlighted by TDA - unfortunately with its standard unchangeable highlight-color -- which is yello (as you might have guessed :-)

the think yellow line comes from pixels which are probably some 98 or 99% transparent, but not 100% - so TDA counts them as highlight.

to make a nice straight line for your highlight:
-> load the psd up in photoshop
-> select the highlight layer
-> select the area above the line using the rectangular selection tool
-> hit "DEL" on your keyboard
-> repeat for the areas below, at the left and at the right of your image
-> save the PSD file again

re-open TDA, edit menu, reload the PST -> done.
however i have not found a way to change the annerving yellow to some other color :(

if you find a way, please let me know...

Borax  2004-02-20 15:31:28 ( ID:lhftqaoa9cm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can do so quite simple with a hexeditor. (You may also use vobedit where a hexeditor is included). A very interesting text on topics like this can be found here: http://home.mn.rr.com/dvdmaster/AdvancedDVD.pdf

To change the annerving yellow lets say to blue just load the file containing the menu (i.e. Vts_XX_0.vob) into a hexeditor and change the bytes 0xA3 and 0xA4 from 44 44 to another value like 33 33 for blue, 22 22 for green or 11 11 for orange.
Example:
1. "Normal" HighLight color yellow

2. HighLight color set to blue:

results in

("Chapter #1" is selected)
The change applies to all buttons in this menu. If you want to change the HighLight color for different buttons to diffenent colors, some more bytes have to be changed. Have a look the the above mentioned article.

Request - Three missing features that would prevent me from purchasing No.48921
Zeron  2004-01-02 20:51:46 ( ID:wwqd9hilsur )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There are three features missing that would prevent me from purchasing this product:

1. First Play Video
The ability to have a track play before the first menu, but NOT show up in the Title or Track menu's

2. Ability to remove the Play all button.
I don't need a play all button on any of my menus, just the abiliy to select tracks

3. Ability to add arbitrary images or text in the menu editor.
I would lkike to be able to add images (with alpha) and extra text anywhere on the menu.

Are any of these features planned for future releases?

B_Racer  2004-01-07 14:09:09 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

1. That's no Problem, TMPGEnc DVD Author can handle this.

2. Hm, no Chance (by now)

3. Create a Picture with the Text by using PhotoShop or any other Picture Editor and use it as a Background.

4. Don't ask me..., i'm just a Guy who helps other people ;)

CaesarKent  2004-01-07 16:38:16 ( ID:.6b7aobq/x2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can you tell how Number 1 can be accomplished? With everything I've tried, the first track still gets its own track menu.

Trevor_S  2004-01-11 04:23:01 ( ID:r7s8eflde8o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

2. Ability to remove the Play all button.

All I do is shrink it as small as possibel and oout it down in the bottom LHS in the overscan area, not a solution but a rough workaround, you shoudl be able to delete that button !. Like you I often have the first chapter set as a "Play Feature"

3. Ability to add arbitrary images or text in the menu editor.

I do this with Photoshop, if I want music as well, I drag the resultant image into Adobe Premier, tell it change the duration to 30 secs, add a music background and crate an M2P from there. Using Preimer also allows me to use motion settings on logos etc and fly or scroll images or text onto the screen background. I would prefer to do it this way then try and have DVD Author do it,

Zeron  2004-01-12 22:41:52 ( ID:wwqd9hilsur )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hiding the button really instal a solution. It is still selected (just can't be seen) when the menu is displayed, and the used has to press the correct direction (up or down depending on where you hid it) to get to the entries on the menu.

The ability to delete this button should be an easy feature for the programmers of TDA to add.

Question - Initial Introduction Page No.48919
DrDVD  2003-12-31 10:21:13 ( ID:pkfsohfskbj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am currently evaluating the DVD authoring product.

I would like to know if there is any way of adding an introduction video prior to the initial track page. For example 20th Century Fox would first show their world famous logo before going to the menu section.

If this facility is not achievable using the current version is it planned?

CaesarKent  2003-12-31 13:27:55 ( ID:.6b7aobq/x2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Under "Create Menu," then under "Display Menu Settings," you can set the first pull-down menu to "Play the first track" when the DVD is loaded into the player. The first track will play, then the menu will be shown. However, someone else asked here a couple of days ago about a problem with this: that first track still shows up in the menu, which is not what you want in a case like you describe.

Question - How can I add Japanese text to menus in English version of DVD Author? No.48916
play2win  2003-12-30 09:01:45 ( ID:8sjldycujv. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I'm using the English version of DVD Author 1.5, but I would like to enter Japanese text into the menus. Is this supported, or must I use the Japanese version?

This is the only feature that I am missing, otherwise this would be the ideal DVD Authoring program!!!

xcool  2004-01-06 20:50:42 ( ID:so4dxbw2pjo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

it can be done with the English version.

Use the Control Panel to add Japanese language support, and add Japanese as the unicode language support.

Copy the Japanese menu text from MS word or other source, then paste the text on DVD Author menu editor. Done.

worldcitizen  2004-01-12 01:22:58 ( ID:m3wu8dkea.f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

In my machine (W2K) it works by doing:

1-In control panel, regional settings, set the system default locale to Japanese (you can leave the user locale in English, it doesn't matter)

2-Enter the text using the IME (somehow copy-paste isn't working, it only works when I type it).

You'll need to install the IME (if you don't have it already).

Question - size of menu background images No.48912
smm  2003-12-29 07:37:10 ( ID:bz2lvsxccfh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If i imported an jpeg image for my menu background what size should it be so that it will look good on my TV screen.

thanks

CaesarKent  2003-12-31 13:25:18 ( ID:.6b7aobq/x2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your image size should be 640x480.

hustbaer  2004-01-09 00:32:26 ( ID:gbemr.lp.t6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ahm.
i think full D1 should be best choice.
which would be 720x576 for PAL and 720x480 for NTSC.

or am i getting something wrong?

CaesarKent  2004-01-11 17:51:19 ( ID:.6b7aobq/x2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The manual says either, but 640x480 is exactly the proper 4:3 aspect ratio as non-widescreen NTSC TVs. That's what I've been using, and the aspect ratio looks correct for everything I've done.

smeghead  Home )  2003-12-27 13:59:38 ( ID:9hf9ta5owzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there a way to set all the font sizes? I am happy the all color feature was created but I have a dvd with nearly 100 chapters and its a real pain to change all the font sizes. I even created a theme with the correct size but it wont change the font size from default when I apply it.

Question - 4/3 menu in stead of 16/9 menu? No.48909
freebutterflyx  2003-12-26 19:24:25 ( ID:lilcnhjltvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I encoded 2 files for a 16/9 pal system. I want to make a dvd with tmpgenc dvd author.
The menu I get is always 4/3 and not 16/9. I have a 16/9 tv. So I have black borders on the sides or i loose the top and bottom of the menu.
Did i do something wrong?

Question - LPCM > 16 bit = impossible No.48906
Stefan  Home )  2003-12-25 09:19:57 ( ID:mpr4lvx5kro )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If I use TMPGEnc DVD Author I can use a sound (Audio Input File) like Dolby Digital (AC3), MPEG1 Audio Layer 2 or Linear PCM.

Well, I´ll use LPCM!

If I read the DVD-Standard, I can use Linear PCM with 16 / 20 / 24 Bit with a Sampling Frequency about 48 or 96 kHz.

But TMPGEnc DVD Author can only use LPCM with 16Bit resolution. It´s impossible to use LPCM with 24 Bit and 96 kHz.

What´s wrong?

Best from Wuppertal and
Merry Christmas!

Stefan

That's not dvd standard.... only 48kHz & 16 bit... I'm sorry for you.

Stefan  2004-01-02 07:36:33 ( ID:25g48ksufej )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>That's not dvd standard.... only 48kHz & 16 bit... I'm sorry for you

Sorry Olivier, 48 kHz is only for compressed sound. I think you were misinformed! The the dvdrhelp.com site is wrong.

I write about lossless, uncompressed digital audio (LPCM)!!

Please read DVD Demystified from Jim Tayler (side 304, 305):

Dolby Digital (AC3) = <448 kBit/s by 48 kHz
MPEG-1 = <384 kBit/s by 48 kHz
MPEG-2 = <912 kBit/s by 48 kHz

but

Linear PCM = <6.144 MBit/s and 16, 20 or 24 Bit by 48 or 96 kHz !!!

And please see some leaflets from Sony or others about DVD-Players. All new player can play 96 kHz LPCM (by 24 bits) !!!!!

http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html wrote:
"Linear PCM is uncompressed (lossless) digital audio, the same format used on CDs and most studio masters. It can be sampled at 48 or 96 kHz with 16, 20, or 24 bits/sample. (Audio CD is limited to 44.1 kHz at 16 bits.) There can be from 1 to 8 channels. The maximum bit rate is 6.144 Mbps, which limits sample rates and bit sizes when there are 5 or more channels. It's generally felt that the 120 dB dynamic range of 20 bits combined with a frequency response of around 22,000 Hz from 48 kHz sampling is adequate for high-fidelity sound reproduction. However, additional bits and higher sampling rates are useful in audiophile applications, studio work, noise shaping, advanced digital processing, and three-dimensional sound field reproduction. DVD players are required to support all the variations of LPCM, but many subsample 96 kHz down to 48 kHz, and some may not use all 20 or 24 bits. The signal provided on the digital output for external digital-to-analog converters may be limited to less than 96 kHz and less than 24 bits."

The CSS license (not the DVD Technical Notes) does not allow digital PCM output of CSS-protected material at 96 kHz. The player must downsample to 48 kHz. But the DVD-Standard give a permission to use.

Please note: We talk about S/P DIF Characteristics.

The Standard IEC958 "Digital audio interface" define that the Signal bitrate is 2.8MHz (Fs=44.1kHz), 2Mhz (Fs=32kHz) and 3.1Mhz (Fs=48kHz).

With regard to DVD-Audio some new DVD-Video-players can output 96/24 PCM audio using a non-standard variation of IEC-958 running at 6.144 Mbps instead of the normal limit of 3.1 MHz.

OK, I will make my one DVD-Video with a GOOD sound. I use LPCM (is lossless uncomressed digital audio) with 96kHz sample frequency and 24 bits sample size, witout (!!) CSS license (it is my one license).

If I produce the DVD with Spruce DVDMaestro I have no problems with my PCM-Stream (96kHz/24Bit). TMPGEnc DVD Author did not work correct!!

Stefan

Question - Menu "tab" order No.48905
Whatever  2003-12-25 05:06:25 ( ID:a6yi1a5nn3m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I am experiencing a small problem with my menu, but can't work out how to fix it. I have 9 titles on my DVD and four 15 second clips to select titles on each page (except the last page which only has one).

When I get to the top menu, the play all button is automatically selected, but when I use the arrow keys on my DVD remote to navigate to one of the titles, I can't navigate back to any of the buttons, only the animated clips.

This means that I have to re-initialise the menu to be able to select a button and navigate to the second screen of titles.

Any ideas how this is controlled?

Cheers,
Jeremy.

Question - Help! Using DVD Writing tool halfwy through get Writing Error. No.48903
Rick  2003-12-23 13:54:03 ( ID:nngqmmbzg3l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Using TMPGEnc DVD Author v1.5.15.49 I made a DVD, then used DVD Shrinkit 3.0 on it, then went back to TMPGEnc DVD Author to use the DVD Writing too to actually make my DVD.

Half way through the writing process I get this popup saying

"Writing Error. Cmd:42, Scene:5,ASC:33,ASCQ:2"

I click ok on it..

It then says "Invalid Unit Number".

Any idea what that error message means? How do I trouble shoot it?

Rick

save U work (Untitled_xxxxxxxx.tda) ...and delete the bmp/jpg/..aso)
load U "Untitled_xxxxxxx.tda" ....and the "play all button" is no more..

PumpkinHead  2004-01-29 12:32:58 ( ID:zdbdtx2vopf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK, I tried this 2 ways - neither worked.

I created a bmp for a play button. created a new project and used this bmp for the play all button. I saved the project. closed TDA, deleted the bmp and restarted TDA. when i reloaded the project the play all button was still there.

I also tried deleting the bmp (once i had saved the project) without closing TDA. I then reloaded the project and the button was still there.

wot am i doing wrong, then??

just to clarify . . .

there was no image there, but the button still existed on the compiled dvd. you just can't see it.
