It's not possible. You can only have two audio tracks with Authoring Works.

i'm the creator for my own project and i still i cant add what's mine to what i wanted to create?

Win7 x64 and Using TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.0.7.32, I am trying to import an MKV file and I get a message:
Could not open the video part of the file abc.mkv Only the audio part can be opened.

I know I was able to import MKV file in the past with Win Vista x64 and I also read the thread #728 that says just to set ffdshow to be used with MKV then it will solve the problem but I could not find anything in ffdshow to let me set it. Unfortunately, the person who has the solution did not leave any additional info on how he did it.

Please advise.

*** OK, I found the solution and to help those who have the same problem, here is the steps I took. Everything works with TAW4, Windows Media Player will play most popular formats: avi, mkv, flv, mov, asf etc....

1 - Go to http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm & download the latest full version of K-lite codec Pack, current vertsion is 5.70f
2 - Uninstall any previous codec pack.
3 - Install the K-lite codec pack
a - On the first screen, uncheck "Players" if you prefer to use regular Windows Media Player.
b - scroll down and select DirectVobsub 2.33 (I use Subtitle workshop, version 2.39 will crash the program)
c - Leave the rest as is and click Next

4 - Uncheck "Reset all settings to their defaults".
- If you don't want to see ffdshow icon in the taskbar then check "Hide systray icon"
- If you don't want to see Haali icon in the taskbar, then check "Hide systray icon"
- click next
5 - skip DXVA hardware acceleration if you are not using Media Player Classic.
6 - Check on "Windows Media Player" then Next
7 - Check on Video File Extension to allow all file extensions using WMP. Click Next
8 - Select your own speaker configuration then click Next->Install
9 - Check "configure DirectVobSub" if you want to change Font style, size, color for subtitle
10 - Check on "Run Win7DSFilter Tweater tool", you need to change one option in this in order to import MKV file
with TAW. Click Finish
11 - Change Font, size , color to the way you wanted.
12 - On Preferred DirectShow decoding filters in Windows 7 screen, select 32-bit decoders->H.264->DivX H264 then click Apply
then Exit

Menu needs to be the following structure.
I have 3 episodes/series which i would like to put on dvd.

so here is how i want them.
main menu:play all button;choose title button ,subtitle button
title menu:play button,main menu button,subtitles button,chapters button

Choose to create a custom menu in the menu wizard.
Check the box to create a title page for your Track menu.

Top menu = what you describe as the main menu.
Title page for Track menu = what you describe as the title menu.
Track menu = your chapter menu.

The only thing i could not find is on top menu how to add button for subs!!!

You can't really add buttons. Authoring Works will automatically add buttons based on your content.

The chapter button appears in the Track title page.

The subtitle button won't appear on the top menu. It's probably because each track can have it's own unique subtitle streams and having a subtitle button on the top menu would only be able to point to one track's subtitle options.

A friend of ours was on a TV show the other day, so we recorded it, and i'm trying to cut out the commercials and put it on a DVD. The video looks great on Authoring Works 4, however, ever part when I cut out a commercial, the screen goes all blocks, then clears up after a second.

Yes, that is a screen shot of the output. The input souce was from our DVD recorder, which is MPEG2 720x480 29.97 fps 4:3 NTSC (Same as output, just wanted to add a menu, and cut commercials.)

It's highly likely that the actual bitrate is higher than the bitrate stated in the video header. You may need to turn off Smart Rendering on this one. Use a bitrate checker (something like this: http://www.winhoros.de/docs/bitrate-viewer/ ) to see what the actual bitrate is and match that setting in the Track settings.

I am using the latest version of TmpgEnc Authoring Works, but I have problems with the video in realtime.
It shows only the small film, but doesn´t show the full video in the large video window.
The other question is:
Can I make a DivX video with chapters and menu like a DVD ?

Right-click on the large preview area and enable/disable overlay mode.

You can make a DivX video complete with chapters and DVD-like menus, but you'll only be able to see the menus on DivX Ultra certified players or if you use DivX Player software on your computer.

The slideshow doesn´t show all the slides. Only some. What can I do, or how can I configure it to show all the slides of the video ?

Are you talking about that thumbnail filmstrip in the cut-editor?
If so, you can set up to three settings in the preferences for the frame interval.
Go to Options-->Preferences-->Clip editing. In this window you should see settings called "User setting (1-3)". These settings allow you to create presets for which frames to display in the thumbnail filmstrip.
So, if you want all frames to be visible in the filmstrip, you'd input "1" and select "frame interval". I believe User Setting 1 is set to this by default.

To activate your user settings, go back to the clip-editor window and right click on the main preview area. In the contextual menu, go to "Display settings" and select your desired user setting.

A tip for people who are trying to import subs in other languages to the project.
Make sure that the subs are in correct ANSI code other wise you will see some strange letters!!!

Indeed it increase the file size.
Other thing which is that i got an error (from a DVD which i bought and wanted to test the software with)it gives me a bit rate 10320.It tells me the max is 9800.So it tells me that it wont work.
How come a factory DVD is not going to work when i watch it every day?
But the most important problem still is the re encode /trans coding process.
Any other suggestions are appreciated.

How is it ruining your DVD? You haven't really explained that.

What is your input source? What are you comparing the output to?

Output
720/576 Dolby DTS 4:3 PAL/SECAM

i have tested the software and the dvd was ready for 16min(dvd movie lenth 1Hour 3min.)
It Did not show on the preview box which means it did not re encode but when i checked the Output folder the sizes of the dvd vob files were changed(800kb less).

Can you actually tell a difference in video quality though? 800kb is not a lot, and it sounds like it didn't re-encode anything. If the video quality hasn't degraded, then I don't think you should worry.

I am trying to make a menu but it seems complicated for me.Can you help me with that.Here what i want it to be:
When insert dvd to show main menu(which to have botons for "Play video";"Choose Episode";"settings" "chapters")
When you click on
"play video" i want it to play the entire dvd all series/episode.
"choose title/episode" to go to another menu where inside i want to have the botons "title 1" and "title 2"
When click on any of this titles boton to play the title .
"settings" to open menu where to choose subtitles "subs on" and "subs off"
when click on either of them to just to main menu.
"chapters" to choose from which chapter to start


One thing i dont want is to see chapter links on the menu just in a separate menu.
I have tried few combinations but i always get chapters in my menu and dont get a menu to choose title.
Can you help me with that.

Ok i found out that if i make costum menu it works but i have one problem.When i click on title boton it sends me to a new menu whcih is ok but instead of play and setting and main menu it is all chapters.I want them to be in one separate menu.I tried but making only 1 chapter but in that case i have no chapters exept the one and i have no chooice of chapters if i need later.

i have half recorded a tv series in win 7 media center

i have converted the first two files so i can import into dvd author 4 Latest Legal Version to edit out the adverts the first file has good sound the second has no sound at all see below for some reason the audio layer has changed it seems ??

this is what it says after i have converted and imported into dvd author has anyone else had this problem can anyone advise please this is a freeview uk tv chanel that was recorded

problem solved reinstalled and did not instal quicktime problem went away

I am trying to take standard def DVD files edited in womble, import them into TMP Authoring Works 4 to put in the menu structure and then output the project to blue ray since the file size is about 13 gigs. I do not get an option to output to blue ray in the options across the top of the program, my only option is for DVD. I can set the file size to none so that the program will save it to file; however, I can't get this to write to Blue Ray (either from within TMP or with Power Producer 5 ultra) due to incorrect file structure for Blue Ray. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

You need to select your output format in the Start stage, before you begin importing your video. Once you begin your project, you won't be able to change output formats unless you start a new project.

I use one of the premade templates but was wondering if there is a way to edit it?

Not really in the sense that you can't move things around that are already there.

Here's some things you can do though (with the premade templates):
-Change fonts, font color, size, and style for any editable text.
-Add non-functioning menu items such as images, text.
-Change highlight colors.
-Change the thumbnail image for tracks/chapters.
-Add effects to any menu item.
-Add background music.

You have to activate motion menus first. In the Menu stage, click on the global menu settings button, then go to the motion menu tab. There should be an option to have background music (bgm) and/or motion backgrounds. Activate the option you want and set the duration, then click "OK" to confirm.

Back in the menu editor, double-click on your background to open the background editor window. There should be a tab for background audio. Here, you can select a file to use as your background audio.

Does TAW 4 support projects created with DVD Author 3?

Yes, it can read DVD Author 2 and DVD Author 3 project files. However, there's no guarantee that the menus will behave exactly the same.
If you used pre-installed templates or menu items from TDA2 or TDA3, it will try to use the same templates/items if it exists in TAW4. If you used a template that doesn't exist in TAW4, I think it will convert it to a different template.

Thanks tkrave. One more question...if I install the free trial of TAW4 will it render my TDA3 useless? I would not think so but want to be sure.

No, the trial will not do anything to TDA3.

If you choose to buy TAW4 and use the upgrade option, then it will render your TDA3 license useless. However, using the User Discount option will let you keep your TDA3 license.
