Question - How to burn previous disc image No.62516
CM  2010-01-19 01:57:30 ( ID:ehau3cfzoul )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just downloaded the AW4 and can't seem to find a way to import a previously written Video_ts file. I am trying to create a dvd that will play as letterbox 4:3 in standard tV and 16:9 full screen on capable mopnitors. I don't see a way to set the 16:9 switch and have made the adjustment using the Infedit program.
How do you bring a previouls created dvd file back into AW4. The Disk writing tool only gives me the option to make a disc image and the other menu tabs fail to function.

kaare  2010-01-19 09:29:41 ( ID:hda7dyazagk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First of all: VIDEO_TS is not a disc image, it is a folder containing DVD files.
You import the VIDEO_TS folder to AW4 by selecting to import "From a DVD, ...", and then you chose "From a folder", and then you selct the VIDEO_TS folder. When that is done, you go to the Menu tab, and there you specify the aspect ratio of the menu, either 4:3 or 16:9.

Question - TMPGEnc suddenly unresponsive No.62515
janlafata  2010-01-16 07:02:07 ( ID:lrka8ud9jrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.0.7.32 and am running it on Vista x64. The company says it cannot guarantee that it will work on x64 but it's been working fine for the past six months except until today when, after I input all of my project settings and loaded a video file I got an error message that said" Could not find a usable media writer drive. You cannot use the media writer function"

The first thing I did was check in device manager to see if my two LG DVD burners are ok and they are, then I did some test burns on my other burning software and they worked fine, so it has to be in the program, however I uninstalled, then reinstalled it and I got the same thing.

Also I know it's not the media because it will not even start the transcoding phase and you don't even need a disc in at that point to see if it's working or not.

I assuming that all of a sudden it has decided it will not work with the two LG burners so it would be real easy to just go ahead and by two newer models, but that's almost a shame because the LG's have just worked flawlessly, however I really like this program so I might just go ahead and get two new ones. Also I did try updating the firmware on them but that didn't help. I'm stunped!

Question - Newest software download No.62513

After login on the Pegasysy site only the old version 4.0.7.32 is available for download. I am the only one to have this?

tkrave  2010-01-15 22:10:27 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That's the latest version for Authoring Works 4.

TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress is the software that was recently updated.

Question - writing drive stopped in TMPGEncAW4 using WinXPx64 No.62512
comPLic@ted  2010-01-15 06:40:57 ( ID:y6d.ag9gwql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If cd/dvd drive is not detected in winXP (x64) and you cannot start the service "B's Recorder GOLD Library General Service" which can be found by clicking
START then RUN and typing services.msc.

Open regedit in the RUN window (proceed with caution).

Goto HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\bgsvcgen
open ImagePath key and change the path from "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bgsvcgen.exe" to "C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\bgsvcgen.exe"

this worked for me. Effect is immediate. After this mod i was able to start the service which allowed the writing drive to be recognized by TMPGEncAW4.

Before this step "B's Recorder GOLD Library General Service" would not start.

Keep Hope Alive!!!!!

Question - Track Settings or Clip Settings No.62509
mtylenol  2010-01-15 02:04:02 ( ID:p3lz4bqeolw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using TMPGENC Authoring Works 4 with my new HD Camcorder. My question is this- I have put multiple clips into one track. Will the track settings override the clip settings, or vice versa? The settings I am wondering about are the video settings: progressive, frame rate, etc.
I just want to know which ones to change. I remember when I used to use TMPGEnc I would do progressive and 23.976 (Internally 29) but I only see that setting as an option in the track setting and not the clip settings.

tkrave  2010-01-15 18:09:08 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ultimately, it will use the track settings since those are the settings it will use to encode to DVD/BD-compliant video, but it will use the clip settings as the basis.
Think of the clip settings as what the video actually is, and think of the track settings as what it's going to be (a DVD/BD).

For example, if your clip is set at 16:9 but your track setting is set at 4:3, it will not squash the video but will instead add black bars to the top and bottom, keeping the 16:9 aspect ratio.

In general, I only change the clip settings if I know for a fact that they're wrong.

Question - Problem with .avi No.62505
Hellboy.  2010-01-15 02:01:43 ( ID:u/ez56ix1dr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why I can't add .avi files?

Error:

Could not open the video part of the file xxx.avi.
Only the audio part can be opened.

I try with many source and obtain the same error.

tkrave  2010-01-15 17:59:37 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's a codec problem. You either don't have the correct codec or you need to change a codec setting.

Use GSpot to figure out what codec the videos are using.
http://gspot.headbands.com/

Also, can you play the files in Windows Media Player?

betul_tun  2010-01-29 15:53:37 ( ID:kvuvfa9vhpr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used g-spot. Nothing happend. It still says "Could not open the video part of the file xxx.avi.Only the audio part can be opened."

I can play the files in Windows Media Player. What will I do to add this avi file?

tkrave  2010-01-29 18:05:46 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What codec is your video using? Is it ffdshow?
GSpot is just a tool to tell you what codec the video is using; it will not fix your problems.

If your codec is ffdshow, open the ffdshow video decoder configuration (Start menu-->All Programs-->ffdshow-->video decoder configuration). You should see a list of video formats. Under the column for "Decoder" right-click anywhere and select one or both of the options ("Set all stable formats to libavcodec" or Set all supported formats to Xvid"). Click OK to close the window and see if the file can be opened in Authoring Works.

Question - Black color in source is transformed to white in output No.62504
kaare  2010-01-14 08:03:00 ( ID:hda7dyazagk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to make a DVD from an mp4 video. In the video there are several scenes inside a pitch black tunnel, but in the DVD output all these black scenes have been transformed to grey/white. How do I get TMPGEnc Authoring Works to not convert black to white, but let black be black in the output?

Question - won't import DVD-RAM No.62502
fixin737s  2010-01-09 19:58:41 ( ID:myx9sjdey2o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TAW4 will not import my DVD-RAM into the source wizard. Why not? I select the drive and folder (DVD_RTAV)that contain the .ifo .vro and .bup files. but it won't import them. my drives support DVD-RAM, so that's not the problem.

tkrave  2010-01-11 18:14:26 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

DVD-RAM isn't supported by Authoring Works 4.

TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3 supports DVD-RAM but that uses third-party software to read and write DVD-RAM data.

Question - Batch create proxy files? No.62499
user  2010-01-09 00:33:17 ( ID:bfzsixjdwn2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a bunch of high-definition files that I'd like to edit. The proxy files are invaluable. I'd like to queue up creation of the proxy files, so that I don't have to add a file, wait for the proxy to be generated, add another file, wait again, ...
Instead, I'd like to add 20 files at once & come back the next day to have all the proxy files created.
Thanks!

tkrave  2010-01-11 18:10:09 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is possible. Just select multiple files when you are adding clips instead of just one file at a time.
You can either drag and drop multiple clips, or ctrl+click multiple files in the file selector.

user  2010-01-12 06:06:04 ( ID:bfzsixjdwn2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Awesome, works great. Thanks!

Question - problem with subtitle file No.62488
kkingccrimson  2010-01-08 22:49:11 ( ID:/7he.aznqh6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to create a menu for a movie.
The movie is in Japanese. The subtitles are in English.
I have both files in the same folder.
One folder is the movie (AVI)and the other folder is the subtitle file(.srt).
When I go to select the subtitle to add to the project,TMPGenc won't open it..something or other about it not being a valid format..?
How can I get this on to DVD with the subtitles?

tkrave  2010-01-08 23:02:41 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

.srt files should work. Can you upload the srt file somewhere so I can test it on my machine?

kkingccrimson  2010-01-09 00:04:24 ( ID:/7he.aznqh6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Where do you suggest I upload it to?
I know that the subs indeed work, because I can see them when I watch the movie on my PC.

tkrave  2010-01-09 00:23:59 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There's rapidshare.com or megaupload.com, those are pretty popular.

Video clip unrelated.

Are you importing the srt file correctly?

kkingccrimson  2010-01-14 02:19:23 ( ID:/7he.aznqh6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How did you do that(add the subtitle file in TMPGEnc,I mean..)?

tkrave  2010-01-14 02:41:28 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Go to the Subtitles tab in the Clip Editor as shown in the picture, activate a subtitle stream by checking the box in the Subtitles list, then click on the "Edit menu" button and select "Import". You can then select your .srt file and all the subtitles should show up.

kkingccrimson  2010-01-14 08:12:25 ( ID:qpbmppeckv2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay. That is much better, thank you.Not only are the subtitles now showing up,they are bigger, which makes them easier to read.

kkingccrimson  2010-01-14 21:08:15 ( ID:4hxyctmo9o6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Now I have a new problem.I can get the subtitles to appear when I do as you instructed above, but when I choose to go the clip editor,so that I can create chapters, the subtitles are gone..??

tkrave  2010-01-15 01:47:41 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The subtitles won't show up in the cut-edit window, but don't worry they're there.

You'll be able to see them in the Simulation Stage.

>The subtitles won't show up in the cut-edit window, but don't worry they're there.
>
>You'll be able to see them in the Simulation Stage.
>how come I can see the subtitles in the simulation stage but whenever the output stage starts I can't see the subtitles anymore even in the output file?
please help me. :(

tkrave  2010-12-24 03:05:33 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

By default, the subtitles are "off". You'll have to go to your DVD's subtitles menu page and select the subtitle you want to use, just like a store-bought DVD.

Question - Want all files on same page No.62484
janlafata  2010-01-06 07:34:18 ( ID:v80qxslrrtg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am doing my first multi-track project on TMPGEnc. I have two, approx 2 hour AVI's thatI'm hoping somehow to get on the same disc. But how do I get them appear on the same page? Also, I only want to use one menu page, not two?

tkrave  2010-01-06 17:52:34 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Use the "Top menu only" option and select a layout that has two thumbnails.

janlafata  2010-01-07 00:48:05 ( ID:v80qxslrrtg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok I did that, but I don't want the thumbnails on the top menu, just text. How do I do that?

tkrave  2010-01-07 18:16:03 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Select a layout that doesn't have thumbnails.

To make things easy, you can select how many thumbnails you want on a menu page and then it will only show layouts with that amount of thumbnails. Then just choose the one appropriate for you.
Layout "#02 4:3/16:9(D)" is text only. See pic:

Request - copy and paste No.62480
tim vondrell  2010-01-05 14:40:45 ( ID:muhasuvwlyr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It would appear that the most basic an most used funtion, in my opinion, is completely missing. Where is "Copy and Paste?" Maybe, I'm having a really really bad morning and not awake yet, but I've spent like an hour searching for a way to copy text from one menu page to another. In this case I want the text on all of 50 pages. It looks like I have to "add text" to each page, copy it in the text editor, change the font, size, color and effect each time as it always resets to the default, and try to manually place it in the same position as the previous page. Please tell me I'm missing something! 'Cause that is just ridiculous work flow for a professional DVD authoring program at this point.

tim vondrell  2010-01-05 14:43:08 ( ID:muhasuvwlyr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

by the way...it's a very expected right mouse click function in just about all software! Where the heck is it in this one??? Additionally, there should be a "copy to ALL Menu Pages" funtion.

tim vondrell  2010-01-05 15:03:31 ( ID:muhasuvwlyr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm Maybe the coffee will take a partial blame. Found it..but it doesn't work. First, want to mention, sticking to my previous "right click" comments. The placement of this feature is less than intuitive. More importantly, I selected my text item, went to "Edit menu" selected "copy the menu item layout to another page" selected all the pages and....nothing. Doesn't appear on any of the pages. This is very annoying. A simple, basic 3 sec task appears to be impossible.

tkrave  2010-01-05 18:38:39 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Apparently the copy layout option only applies to necessary menu items such as track/chapter thumbnails, track/chapter names, titles, buttons, etc.

I've never had to copy an optional menu item, but I agree that it would definitely be useful.
