Question - How to stop Authoring Works 4 re-encoding No.62146
craxyfrog  2009-08-01 10:49:10 ( ID:db3l2upx8kl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

Is it possible to create a dvd without Authoring Works 4 encoding video?

If I have multiple source files what format exactly do they have to be in so that Authoring Works 4 does not encode then again?

I would really appreciate it if someone could help.

Thanks

tkrave  2009-08-03 18:27:36 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

They have to be compliant with your output format. So if you're making a DVD, it should be a DVD compliant MPEG.

DVD-Video specs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-VIDEO#Resolution_and_frame_rate

Also, if you want to output as NTSC, then your source should be NTSC. If you try to change it from NTSC to PAL or vice versa, it will force a full-encode.

All of your clips in a track should be the same aspect ratio. So if you have a 16:9 clip and a 4:3 clip, put them in separate tracks. If they are in the same track, one of them will be re-encoded.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply so to clarify if I have .mov video and if I encoded:

.mov -> .mpg (see below)
640x480 -> 704x576
audio -> mp2 48mhz bit rate 128bit stereo

Then Authoring Works 4 will not reencode?

Most software only allows me to choose mpeg 2 Program, Elementary or Transport ending up with m2p, m2t or m2a/m2v.

Which one of these do I use so that Authoring Works 4 does not re-encode?

Help

I've tried it with an .m2t file and it works fine. Just remember that the framerate must also be compliant (25 fps for PAL, 29.97 or 23.976 fps for NTSC, and that it should be interlaced (not progressive) as well. Also set it to the appropriate video system (PAL or NTSC) if possible.

Do you plan to support mpeg4/AVC files as well in the future without re-encode? i've tried the trial version in my work and it seems that it's not supported yet, i export my videos in m2ts file format, encoded with h.264/AVC with AC3 sound, the stream is blu-ray compatible because i re-muxed it into a blu-ray structure with tsmuxer and it works fine, but i want also to add menous, and popups like your progamm does, but i don't want to re-encode the video , or export the disk in mpeg2 format.

Question - Authoring targeting PAL and NTSC in parallel No.62143
BobAchgill  Home )  2009-07-31 07:56:50 ( ID:b920bqgba4j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I like what I see with the trial of Tmpgenc Authoring Works but one last thing on the wish list...

Once I finish setting up a project I need to compile the setup to both NTSC and PAL. The trial wants me to start a whole new project when I select to change from PAL to NTSC. Is that just an artifact of using the trial version? Or will the full version let me copy the finished NTSC project over to PAL?

If the full version will let me output both PAL and NTSC versions of the same project what will happen to the chapter markers? Are the markers going to be totally way off as the video gets further into the clip (because the chapter markers are counting frames)? Or are the chapter markers going to be somewhat the same (because they are timecode based)??

I expect to have lots of chapter markers (1000's) in a disk project so I am looking for the least painful way with out having to redo each disk project twice ... once for PAL and once for NTSC.

Thanks!

Bob

I don't think you're going to like this...The full version is the same as the trial in that you have to start a new project if you want to switch from a NTSC project to a PAL one.

I too would like to be able to switch between NTSC and PAL after I've made a project. Hopefully it's not a technical impossibility.

Most mordern TVs, Computers and DVD players around the world play both PAL and NTSC. The machine sences which the DVD is set in and adjusts itself.

Can someone tell me how I can make the menu background music last longer-- I have a 4 min song but the tabs for editing length go only fron 0 to 35 sec...
I can't figure out how to make it longer.
Thanks!

tkrave  2009-07-30 20:27:39 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You may need to change the duration of the BGM/Motion menu settings.

Go to the global menu settings --> Motion Menu tab --> BGM/Motion menu settings.
Change the BGM/Motion menu duration to your desired length. Max is 6 minutes.

Question - Output AVI file? No.62137

Is there a way to get TAW4 to OUTPUT .avi files instead of .divx files?

I was sure there was an option some place to set the file extension but I'll be damned if I can find it now.

I checked the manual etc but still can't see it.

tkrave  2009-07-28 18:24:10 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think that's possible. At least, I've never heard of it and I can't find any way to do it in the program.

pjmur  2009-07-29 06:12:08 ( ID:txnnxy/o6fh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That probably explains why I can't find it! lol
Thanks for the reply.

That might be a good one for the "suggestion box" for future versions/updates.

Hi,
I’m looking for a way to create a very simple DVD project with bilingual audio.
There are no subtitles or chapters.
I have MPEG2 file and two audio tracks in two different languages.
On the menu I just want to have two options “French” and “English”
So how do I trigger different audio options with the same video file.
Is there some templates available for this task?
Thank you
Eric

tkrave  2009-07-16 18:51:32 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can add or change the audio for your video on the clip properties screen (shown when you first import a video or by going to the clip editor).

http://i29.tinypic.com/w9za1l.png

Just select "Multi-audio" and you'll be able to select your two audio tracks.

You may also have to adjust the audio encoding mode and stream format. To do this, go to the track menu settings(1), click on the audio tab (2), and change the Encoder mode and Audio stream format (3).

http://i30.tinypic.com/a3if5e.png

For your menu, you'll have to have at least a track menu page to access the audio selection page. Just make sure to choose "Track menu only" when creating your menu via the menu wizard.

Question - AVCHD to Blu-ray No.62132
mboufleur  2009-07-15 21:01:55 ( ID:zh3bqdcm8jo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I currently own TMPGenc XPress and TMPGEnc MPEG Editor, and for a specific project, I downloaded TMPGEnc Authoring Works.

The purpose of this project is to grab a couple of AVCHD files that were recorded using Sony Handycam cameras (HDR-X100 and HDR-X500), and create Blu-ray discs (BD-R media) without messing with the video itself.
Unfortunately, I don't have the cameras right now, and I forgot to copy the entire folder structure, so I only have the MTS files, and that's what I'm using so far.

In TAU, I'm able to import these files and create a working project and burn it to BD-R media, but the resulting files are always transcoded to MPEG-2.

Is this a limitation of TAU? Does the Blu-ray authoring process only finalizes with MPEG-2 content, or maybe I can change something to be able to use my files without transcoding (re-multiplexing, maybe)?

tkrave  2009-07-16 18:31:27 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Unfortunately, as of now Authoring Works 4 can only encode BD's in MPEG-2. I think we are all hoping they add h.264 BD output soon.

Bug report - Menu frame rate settings are not correct for Blu Ray No.62127
Rick0725  2009-07-13 14:29:41 ( ID:.qui0lgypoj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The frame rates for Blu Ray menues are not correct, do not match the values in the global menu settings for 16:9 HD drop down menu, AND do not output the frame rate that is selected. Noticed my motion menues for 720P 16:9 HD were unstable but the actual project played fine. I used a software to analyse frame rates for all M2TS folders in my projects to verify my issue.

For example
1280x720P NTSC 16:9
the correct scan rate should be 59.94 fps. and is not listed in the drop down.
29.97 fps is an option in the drop down. Selecting 29.97 fps actually outputs 24 fps which is not compatible with 1280x720P. thus the playback issues with the menus.

My projects are ruined let alone the money wasted on BD-R media!!!!

The frame rates for all menu parameters need to be checked and corrected. I sent the issue to support over a week ago and still have not gotten a response!

tkrave  2009-07-13 18:31:01 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

All technical specifications I've seen for Blu-ray Disc say that 24 fps (progressive) is a valid framerate for all HD resolutions.

See section 4.3:
http://www.blu-raydisc.com/Assets/Downloadablefile/bdj_gem_application_definition-15496.pdf

You can try selecting 23.976 fps for your menus which is also a valid framerate.

Rick0725  2009-07-13 23:03:15 ( ID:.qui0lgypoj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

1280x720P 16:9 broadcast TV
59.94 fps for ntsc
50 fps for PAL

1280x720P 16:9 used for FILM (3:2 pull down)
24 for NTSC
23.976p for PAL

The jobs I have been working on are either converting 50 fps PAL to 59.94 fps NTSC or 59.94 NTSC to 59.94 NTSC broadcasts. You can not use 24/23.976 in place of 59.94/50. 24/23.976 are used for projects shot on film. The 59.94/50 and 24/23.976 are NOT compatible and will cause playback issues.

If you use 59.94 fps for the TRACK you can not use 24 fps for the MENU.

The defaults are correct in your software in the dropdown menu for dvd track menu setting up but not correct for your menues.

the menu settings for 720p in menu settings should be

ntsc progressive

59.94 fps (not 29.97 - this setting is actually outputing 24 fps)
24 fps
no setting for interlaced

pal progressive

50 fps
23.976 fps
no setting for interlaced

FIX IT!

Rick0725  2009-07-14 00:04:17 ( ID:.qui0lgypoj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To make the point clearer. you should not mix scan rates... one for the track and another for the menu ...film format for the menu, TV camera/broadcast frame rate for the track... otherwise you will have play back issuses and they are not compatible.

you should not mix scan rates for the menu and for the track. you should not use a frame rate of 24 fps on a motion menu where the source in the track is 59.94 fps.

If the original source has a frame rate of 59.94 fps and you use that source in the motion menu you use a frame rate of 59.94 fps for the track and for the motion menus. you should not use 24 fps for the motion menu and 59.94 fps for the track. There will be playback issues.

the menu settings for 720p menues in menu settings needs to include 59.94 fps for NTSC and 50 fps for PAL. The menu setup currently does not have this setting to accomodate 720P.

ntsc progressive for 720p

59.94 fps (not 29.97 - this setting is actually outputing 24 fps)
24 fps
no setting for interlaced

pal progressive

50 fps
23.976 fps
no setting for interlaced

for 1080i (16:9)
NTSC
1920x1080i 59.94 fps

PAL
1920x1080i 50 fps

for 1080P (16:9)

NTSC
1920x1080P 24 fps

PAL
1920x1080P 23.976 fps

plus all the other possibilities from the PDF.

Please review the issue and fix the software.

Question - Is there a way to divide the clips in a track into Chapters? No.62125
David40  2009-07-09 02:52:22 ( ID:rc2rimbg/yn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I was curious if there is a way to break up the individual clips in a Track into chapters. For example if I had a 30 minute clip and wanted to divide it into 5 or 10 minute segments. Is there a way to do this inside the program?
Thanks

tkrave  2009-07-09 18:31:55 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Each clip in a track registers as a chapter in the menu.

If you want to create more chapters within a clip, you can add chapter marks in the Clip Editing window. Just navigate to the frame you want the chapter mark to be at and click on the chapter mark button (it has a flag icon on it).

You can also use the chaptering tool to automatically add chapter marks to a clip.
In the Clip Editing window, click on the Edit Menu button (the button above the Undo button) and select the Chaptering Tool in the list. You can also use ctrl+k as a shortcut to access the Chaptering Tool.

Check out this page if you're not sure what I'm talking about. It's for DVD Author 3 but the process is the same for Authoring Works 4.

Question - Subtitles work for a while then sudden dissappear No.62122

Hello there. Well simple question, hope any1 can help and sorry for my english by the way. I made a BD from a M2TS with spanish subtitles. All play flawless until subtitles dissappered from minute 30 of the film till the end. What is wrong?,any1 can help me in this issue. Thanxs in advance, cheerz from Chile, southamerica.

tkrave  2009-07-09 18:44:18 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you using a separate subtitles file?

If so, it's possible that there is something in the file that Authoring Works doesn't like. It could be some html or an odd character. The point where subtitles stop appearing is where the conflict will be, so make a note of where the subtitles stop working and look at your subtitles file for something out of the ordinary.

Snakebane  2009-09-20 21:44:03 ( ID:cdk9jctzmbl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you imported the subtitle from an external file, such as SRT format, then yes sometimes the program will do that. As tkrave says something is causing a conflict. The easiest fix I have found, and I do this with every srt I import: Use subtitle workshop to open and resave the file. I've never had to make any changes to the subtitle file, just open and set the framerate and save it. Problem should be solved after doing this. I don't know why it happens, but if I import an SRT into TAW4 its usually blank or half missing until I open/save it in subtitle workshop. Hope that helps you. Version 2.51 is stable, version 4 is beta. get it here:
