Question - TAW4 - Authoring works codecs No.65939
Val  2012-03-14 19:49:34 ( ID:yjugllmhu1w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello
Does anybody know why on 64bit OS Authoring works is using 32bit codecs?
Thanks

tkrave  2012-03-15 02:32:13 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think it's a 64-bit optimized program; it's only compatible with Win7 64-bit.

Question - TAW4 - Encoding No.65931
Val  2012-03-14 03:00:49 ( ID:yjugllmhu1w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,
I would like to ask few questions:
1.Is it possible to encode DVD in less than 15 minutes.Because i have just made a dvd and it took only 13 minutes.
I remember it used to take 6 Hours? Is it possible that it is not encoding right?

2.Very important question.
I have got an AVI file which is not playable in Authoring works.I am not sure why.Keep crushing the Program. It seems is a codec program.
I can fine watch the video in bs player or any player.
It may be Authoring works can not access the right codec?
What should i do in this case?
Is there a way to see why Authoring works wont play it.
Media info will give me the info but it wont help me.I will post the info from media info.
Thanks

tkrave  2012-03-14 04:05:56 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If your source file was DVD-compliant, then output will be very fast like you describe. You can tell if it is compliant if there is a blue "SR" logo on the thumbnail of the clip in the Source stage. Whenever that logo appears, it will be smart rendered and little to no re-encoding will occur.

Non-compliant video will be fully re-encoded to the DVD-Video standard, which can take a while depending on your system specs.

For your AVI, it sounds like it could be a codec problem.
What file reader is being used to open the file in TAW4? The clip properties screen shows the file reader being used under video properties. You can try using a different file reader to see if that fixes the problem.
To use a different file reader, go to Options-->Preferences-->Input Format List-->File Input Plug-in and uncheck the file reader being used to open the file. This will force TAW4 to use a different file reader and thus, a different codec.

Val  2012-03-14 04:29:31 ( ID:yjugllmhu1w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi Thank you for your answer but the media info for the video i was able to encode in 14min is:
video divx3Low
947kbps 576/448 25fps Mpeg 4
Audio 128kbps 44.1khz 2ch MP3
The only problem is that the new dvd has no SOUND whatso ever and only buzzing.
Do you have any idea what that could be?
For the video that crashes the program media info is:
format avi
codec xvid
2054kbps 720/544 23.976fps Mpeg-4 Visual(Advanced Simple@L5)BVop1
audio Mpeg-1 layer3 115kbps 48kHz 2ch.
Thanks again

Hello,
It uses direct show codec but when i disable it i get a message cant lod video ,only Audio.
I have tried in premiere pro as well.It says codec not found ,supported.
I have ffdshow installed on my PC.
I still dont know how to fix this issue.
Under Video Matering works the file can not be open at all.It has only sound ,no video.
It seems that the video uses codec which is not on my pc even if i installed Divx .Xvid and ach/h264 Mpeg codec.
Can you help me?

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Gamma/brightness shift in encodes from .mov No.65930
MRK  2012-03-14 01:32:56 ( ID:y36rgen3j.2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Encodes from mov containers - especially 10 bit prores in VMW5 come out considerably brighter than the original file.

Initially I thought target codec was at fault, but it's brighter regardless of output codec used, and gamma shift can be seen already in initial Clip-properties/Cut-Edit windows. Since the problem doesn't exist in tmpeg Xpress 4 (even when both programs are on the same encoding PC), I can only presume quicktime importer is at fault, and always defaults to PC 0,255 range instead of the correct 16,235.

I also tried placing old vfapi mov importer in directory, hoping it would replace built in mov importer in VMW5, but to no avail.

benoitm  2012-03-16 18:40:31 ( ID:y0q5giiuipn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Guess it's about the same proble I encounter with DnxHD encapsulated in .mov
The good news is that I found a workaround, the bad news is that the workaround works in 5.0.5.32, and is broken in 5.1.1.52
(http://community.avid.com/forums/p/96567/618853.aspx#618853)

diaphote  2012-03-19 06:53:30 ( ID:/9my1dyax76 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you are using a recent version, replace the Quicktime importer, MovieQT.vme, with the same file from version 5.0.5.32.

This will cure a serious color shift problem introduced in the more recent releases. It also will once again treat Quicktime 0-255 & 16-235 correctly (at least with Avid DNxHD; I don't know know what it will do with prores).

If you still don't get the level range that you need, you can adjust with the Color correction filter >YUV >CCIR601 expansion.

benoitm  2012-03-19 19:54:47 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

5.0.5.32 was not ok for the Y range with mov(DNxHD) for me; I had to compensate Y range compression by a Color Correction filter (luma: +2, contrast: +42); this workaround apparently restores the exact Y range without causing any clipping (< 16 or > 235)

diaphote  2012-03-20 07:44:44 ( ID:/9my1dyax76 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I shouldn't have used the word "correctly". I meant that it works as it previously did. If encoding a Quicktime exported from Avid with 601/709 settings, I use 601 expansion in TMPGEnc's color correction filter -- which seems to accomplish the same thing you are doing with the +2, +42 adjustments.

With a fully color corrected project, with no video below 16 or above 235, I just export a Quicktime reference with the RGB option. Then, no color correction is needed.

I suggested substituting the MovieQT.vme file from version 5.0.5.32 because the newer QT importers introduced the new color shift problem. Version 5.2.3.66 seems to handle the luminance range OK, but distorts chroma. I hope it gets fixed.

benoitm  2012-03-21 17:13:15 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK, looks like we are on the same wavelength :)
Is TMPGEnc support really monitoring this forum, or should we file a support request (they should be made aware that some people actually DO use DNxHD/QT with TVMW5...) ?

" ...newer QT importers introduced the new color shift problem."

Version 5.3.1.85 seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - AVI Missing Frames on Edit / Clip window... No.65924
PIXdynamics  2012-03-13 00:37:18 ( ID:8jx3uxbmll2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Folks:

Just upgraded to TMPGEnc VMW5, from Xpress 4.0.

Besides not being able to force use of Cuda during filtering (regardless of whether it is faster or not), I have also noticed that AVI files (from my NTSC MiniDV cam, which I processed a ton with Xpress 4.0) show MISSING frames (or are shown with a strange cadence, 1-2, 1-2, etc.) right on the clip/edit preview of VMW5 (with NO filters or ANY other processing).

In contrast, when opening the very same AVI file in CyberDirector 10, and advancing in the exact same manner (frame-by-frame, clip inspection, no effects or editing), the resulting pre-view is much smoother and shows each individual frame.

I have also noticed that ANY ENCODING I choose with VMW5, from these AVI files, render choppy, not-true-to-original motion fluid, as clearly seen in a sample video from my fish-pond. In ocontrast, PowerDirector 10 output (e.g. AVCHD) is buttery-smooth and gorgeous, true to the original motion-flow of the master AVI file.

Something (somewhere) seems WRONG with my VMW5, which I never had before with Xpress 4.0.

THANKS, in advance, for any help or light on this subject!

You

tkrave  2012-03-13 02:07:01 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What file reader is being used to open the file in TVMW5? The clip properties screen shows the file reader being used under video properties. You may need to use a different file reader, as it sounds like TVMW5 is using a different codec than CyberDirector/PowerDirector to read the file.

To use a different file reader, go to Options-->Preferences-->Input/Output Format List-->File Input Plug-in and uncheck the file reader being used to open the file. This will force TVMW5 to use a different file reader and thus, a different codec.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to find out what is the codec being used for your AVI. Use MediaInfo to get video info and post it here.

UPDATE (#1):

1. THANKS for your quick response.
2. It seems that default reader (in CLIP-preview) is "Media Foundation".
3. If I un-check TMPGenc5's Media Foundation, it *WILL NOT* open my AVI file.

On my next update:

1. I will test additional .AVI clips (just in case).
2. I will Extract/review clip info. with Mediainfo and post here.

NOTES:
1. NO PROBLEMS if my .AVIs are played on either PowerDirector 10 & WMP.

2. I did notice that (mysteriously) my prior Xpress 4.0 recently stopped opening my AVIs, showing the exact same message as TMPGenc VMW5, and could not figure exactly why.

PIXdynamics  2012-03-13 22:24:13 ( ID:vaf6wxhm5o. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

UPDATE #2:

(Short-version: AVI reading is broken in my VMW5's install and need help.)

TESTS:

1. Additional .AVI files captured from Sony TRV27 MiniDV Cam. (by using both Windows library-capture tool, and VMW5's own capture). Did not matter.

2. All these samples show "missing frames" in a 1-2 cadence, when inspected in VMW5's clip review (no effects or filters applied).

3. All these samples show CORRECTLY (and smoothly), frame-by-frame, on either PowerDirector or Windows Media Player.

4. PowerDirector has the ability to edit-and-save the .AVI file back on its .AVI format, either type I or II. Tried this, and then inspected on VMW5 and it still shows the 1-2 missing-frame cadence.

5. The AVI file-reader being used by VMW5 is "Media Foundation". When unchecking this reader in the Filter/Plug-in list, VMW5 *WILL NOT* read any of my .AVI FILES.

6. Attached is a sample of what MediaInfo reports from my .AVI clips:

...Any update? I can't process any .AVi file correctly on TMPGenc VMW5.

Case details loaded above.

Thanks!

THANKS!

I am on the road (traveling) now, but I will be testing this coming Friday.

Hopefully it should now work.

PIXdynamics  2012-03-17 14:24:34 ( ID:vaf6wxhm5o. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

UPDATE III:

.AVI reader now works PERFECTLY in 5.2.3.66!

Thanks for your support. One last (and simple) question:

Any way to FORCE CUDA usage for Filtering (noise-reduction, sharpening)?

This is valuable in cases where I am willing to trade compression time for less load / cooler cpu (and less overall heat on my notebook, especially during occasional over-night work). Maybe a small toggle/variable in Windows Registry (or extra "force" option in CUDA settings may suffice).

NOTE that Xpress 4.0 DID ALLOW for this happen, and VMW5 does not (don't know why, maybe because of differences in the CUDA inspect/optimzer routines).

Once again, THANKS!

Question - TE40 - Folder issue No.65917
Jimmy  2012-03-10 18:19:08 ( ID:8tvzdfgvecc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm using Windows XP and have a weird problem. When encoding and choosing an Output folder, I am not seeing the "project_1" folder in Windows Explorer.

It shows up in TMPGEnc's folder list but when I try to open it I get a "refers to location that is unavailable".

The folder is missing from Windows Explorer. When doing a Browse For Folder within TMPGEnc the folder is there and the files within the folder are correct.

I just can't open the folder, and it's missing from Windows Explorer.

I'm stummped.

Jimmy  2012-03-10 18:32:48 ( ID:8tvzdfgvecc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Now it's working. This is too weird. Thanks anyway. Problem solved for now.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Batch processing - is there an easier way??? AGAIN! No.65909
realworldtv  2012-03-07 21:36:21 ( ID:dfzgtc06w9a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi - sorry for the duplicated topic - can the mods delte the earlier one please?

OK - I've just bought TMPGEnc 5 and have loads of encoding to do.
I have approx 40 AVIs to encode to MP4 and WMV. They all need the same encoding, all to the same output files.

My problem is I can't work out a way of getting this done without taking each source AVI in individually, picking an encode preset and specifying the output name.

Is there an easier way please? if not, then all the batch processor is is a way of delaying encoding - and where's the point in that if it works in the background anyway?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

tkrave  2012-03-08 08:38:21 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think you need to use the batch encoder for this.

Choose Normal mode instead of timeline mode.
Drag all 40 of your clips into the Source stage.
In the Format Stage, select your output format and for "File Output Mode", select "Output each clip as a separate file".
Then simply go to the Output stage and output to your desired folder.

Before you output, you may want to check the naming preferences in Options-->Preferences-->Output folder/file. You can set it to output with the same name as the source file (but with the new extension of course).

Is there a way to batch encode 40 files and only select a filter once? It seems you have to apply the filter to each file.

Question - TAW4 - converting a bluray project to dvd project No.65897
lccseh  2012-03-06 06:37:21 ( ID:ih4tzwvyjho )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

is there an easy way to convert a bluray hd project to a dvd sd project, so that chapter marks and menu information is retained?

i often create both types of project from the same material. i start by using vmw5 to create the hd and sd mpeg files. then amw4 to create a bluray hd project. am trying to avoid the pain of recreating the chapters and all of the menu text.

thanks in advance,

les

tkrave  2012-03-06 11:32:11 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It depends on your definition of easy.

Easiest way might be to export/save the chapters as a keyframe list and then import the keyframe list into your DVD project. I don't think there's an easy way to retain the chapter names in the menu though.

Thanks, I will give that a try. While I will still have to redo the menu text, if this preserves the chapter marks (i don't care about the chapter names) then it will be a big help.

Les

Bob  2012-03-07 01:31:32 ( ID:5naf9/4evxn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Another way, albeit it not as convenient, would be to temporarily rename the bluray source file and then rename the sd source file to match what the bluray source file was. Assuming both source files are the same length, I would think all the chapter marks and names will be retained. Of course, you then have to adjust the output settings to match the new source. I think tkrave's suggestion is the best though...I have exported keyframes before and the imported them and it worked great.
