I just purchased the TMPG program and am trying to convert my avi files to VCD in order to burn and play on my DVD player. The problem I am running into is when I try to convert the video file I get the error "cannot open or unsupported". I have no problem playing these files using a DIVX program but how do I convert them? Please help.
>Please search this board for you answer. It is on every page and you won't have to look far.

Well Ashy,I'm sorry but I have searched all over the page and although I see where a lot of people have the same problem,I can't find where you have answered the question in any detail. For example what plugins do we need and more important where do you find these plugings. Also what steps do we go about to fix the problem. Not all of us have the computer skills that you do and sometimes we need step by step help. Just telling us to look on the page is not the answer. If you can't help please advise.
If you were to type unsupported in the search box at the top of this page the answer would have presented itself many times.
I have answered this question myself soooooo many times it just gets tedious when the answer is so readily available just by looking in the right place.
Anyway seeing as you are in need the usual way to correct the problem is to start TMPG and go to Options>enviromental setting>VFAPI plugin and right click the 'Directshow mutimedia file reader' and raise it's priority to 2 and the rest to 0.
Has anyone have probs with tpmg when cut/join video files? My prob is when i join/cut mpgs i lose sound in the middle of the mpg file, anyone know why?
Does this happen with all or just certain files. If it's just certain files it is probably a dodgy MPEG file.
Just re-encode the audio and multiplex it with the video and then try cutting again.
I used EO video to convert real media files into .avi files, then I tried to convert them to .mpg using TMPGEnc. The problem is, there is no video when it's converting, only sound. Why is it that this happens? It's probably not TMPGEnc's problem, but I've posted around and nobody has been able to help me, so if anybody could, I'd really appreciate it.
You can't have looked to hard. If you have a look around on this board you'll find the answer about a 100 times. You won't have to look for your answer to hard as it is probaly on every page of this board.
No I don't think TMPG is able to produce transport streams, but as Minion says you could use MPEG2VCR to convert the program stream to a transport stream using it's stream converter or you could just use MPEG2VCR to multiplex to a transport stream.
There are also various other softwares able to do this, another is MPEGcarver. http://www.imaginegraphics.co.uk/products/mpegcarver/mpgecarver.htm
There are two versions of MPEG2VCR. the downloadable version only handles mpeg1's. The $600 version handles mpeg2's. It will most certainly convert between program and transpiort streams though.
I need reinstall XP-pro system, after this TmpgEc don¡t accpet .m2v files (Indicated "no supported") however after instalation I chosee "all files" mirk it (m2v files) and the tmpgec read, convert and resize the file (re-mpeg to low bit-rate)

And If I use the MERGE-CUT option, the program use this file type without problem. (X-files?)
How can I purchase the TMPGENC Plus version? I do not have credit cards, that are supported at pegasys-inc... I am from austria and I couldn't find any distributor that sales the software...
Is there any other way to purchase it??
Please help me, I want to use the software for private issues only!!!
Ever since I put 2.56 on, I have having problems converting avi's and mpgs.
1) On most mpegs, the # of frames is a very big number and the estimated time to convert is a very big number; OR
2) No video at all; OR
3) When converting uncompressed AVI's, after about 35% or so, it all goes black.
I have same result as orion940. I am trying to re-encode MPEG-2 in format for VCD on 1 minute source clip. Frames to go is 600000000, and hours to go is 6000, approximately. 2.51 version performed this fine! Still trying to solve for why-
To unlock the settings you have to load the "unlock.mcf" template in the "Extra" folder, when you load the template all your settings will become unlocked so before encodeing make sure everything is the way you want it cuz the settings have a habbit of changeing after you load the template....
I've followed up the same as instructions of Webpage
"Using AVISYnth as a frame server between Premiere and
TMPGEnc"
the process I do OK until I click "Start", immediately
the screen becomes just black color....whereas the
status bar of WHOLE works and source position still
00:00:00 (unchangeable number).
The first time I tried with a short of video (only
10mins)but everthing OK....
This time I do 2 hrs video for DVD dics...and failure.
I do sth wrong with this ?(although I recheck and redo
many times carefully but no result and have more look
on net for guide).
Hi, I just download a sample MPEG-1 movie from this site....just to test how it looks like when burn onto VCD. I wonder why NERO need to re-encode the MPEG-1 file stating that "the stream is invalid for making (super)video-cd". For your information, I'm burn it with Nero 5.5.8.2 with assistance from Nero wizard for making VCD.
The problem is probably that the file is a "mpeg1" file not a "vcd" file, Why use a downloaded sample clip? The best thing to do is to download the program and encode your own clips and burn them to vcd ......

Hi, I'm newbie and i have the same question, I encode my avi to mpg, but when i try to burn it with the nero assistance for vcd it says it needs to encode the file because "the stream is invalid for making (super)video-cd" (and of course taking another few hours). What can I do? rename the mpg to vcd or what? or maybe just dont use the nero's assitance for vcd and burn the mpg as an iso?
When "nero" gives you the error message it will also tell you "why" the file wasn"t compliant with vcd standards, if you load a template the settings will be set so your file won"t get that error in nero...
The specs you posted sound like a compatible Pal mpeg1/vcd file accept that you wrote in "huffyuv compressor" so are those the stats of your avi file or your mpeg1 file? cuz "huffyuv" is an "avi codec", I hope you aren"t outputting to the "huffyuv" codec? cuz then you would be encodeing to avi not mpeg1 and then "nero" would for sure re-encode the file, but if that was a "typo" then the only thing that might work is to take your "mpeg1" file and run it through the "merge and cut" with the "mpeg1/vcd" setting in the dropdown menue, this will put a vcd header on the file just in case you encoded the file to mpeg1 not mpeg1/vcd....
sorry for my english i am italian
i convert from DVD to SVCD whith software DVDx and TMPGENC, when i split the vid whith TMPF (merge and cuts), i not see the vid, audio is good but video is black.
I trasfer on CD the video for see on TV and the vision is very good but not regular
since the trial period for version 2.54 expired I get for all following versions - 2.54a, 2.55, 2.56 - with the start the message "mpeg 2 trial period expired". I use it with Windows 2000 and Windows 98SE.
This is just what it says. You can not use MPEG-2 encoding feature for free
any more. You need to buy TMPGEnc Plus if you want unlimited MPEG-2 encoding
feature.
At contact page, it says :
"Because of MPEG-2 licensing matter, we are not able to provide unlimited
MPEG-2 encoding function for free, thus, the free version of TMPGEnc (which
you can download from this website) has limited MPEG-2 encoding function."
If a software has MPEG-2 encoding or decoding feature, the author or distributer
needs to pay licensing fee once they distribute/sell the software to the public.
may be my question was not in correct phrasing. I know that there is only a limited test time for mpeg-2 for the free versions.
In the past I installed a new free version and it continuoes to encoding for the next trial period. But since the trial period of version 2.53 finished the version 2.54 said from beginning (the first day) that the trial period expired. So I installed version 2.55. This version said it too. And so on.
Or does it means that since (free) version 2.54 there is no more trial period ?
