Nothing I can do will get TMPGENC 2.55 to work on my system.
In response to the constant non-stop error "can't load
p3package.dll" I have copied the file p3packag.dll into
my SYSTEM and SYSTEM32 subdirectories to no avail. Nothing
changes -- still "can't load p3packag.dll"
I have also tried changing the PATH command in my
autoexec.bat to PATH=C:progra~1TMPGENCp3packag.dll
Nothing changes -- still "can't load p3packag.dll."

Here is my system hardware and software:

Pentium III 450 main 13 gig IDE drive with 6 gigs free,
seconday IDE 8 gig drive with 8 gigs free. (The computer
is a Tiger Direct unit, don't know the precise BIOS
revision and motherboard rev.)
128 megs RAM
Windows 98SE
Pyro Firewire card, Creative SoundBlaster Live! sound
card, plain vanilla video card.
AVI input via Digital 8 camcorder using Ulead MediaStudio
Pro.

Windows media player DOES run on my system and IS able
to play back MPEG-1 files properly.
I am also running Uleahd MediaStudio Pro VE and it is
also able to edit and play back .AVI files properly.
So there is presumably no problem with Direct X on
my system.

Various people have called me a dolt and a fool and an
idiot. I have been using computers for more than 20
years, since the original Altair 8000, so it is unlikely
that I am really as stupid and as inept as various
on-line creeps have implied when they refused to give
me a useful answer to the question "How do I get TMPGENC to
run?"

No one has yet succeeded in explaining how I can get
TMPGENC to run. I have tried everything everyone has
suggested to no avail, and now I have run out of options.
Any suggestions which do not involve gratuitous
insults?

I can think of 2 problems on your case.

1. Downloading / Unzip problem
Make sure you download it correctly, and unzip it correctly.
I recommend you to use latest version of Unzip software.

2. Your attitude problem.
Your attitude is obviously against "Term of Use" of this BBS.

Go to "options" to "enviromental settings" then to "cpu" and un-check all the boxes in tab eg: SSE,MMX ECT....This WILL WORK..I just deleted my p3p package.dll file to recreate the error and my solution worked..luckily I have a p3p package from a different version.....

The answer to your problems is simple.

Your machine does not meet MINIMUM Requirements to run TMPGEnc.

Yeah right. And I use a 286 with Windows 3.1 with no problems.

Come to the point, Hardcore. What exactly are your intentions as regards to offering advice to those who seek it, or are you content to sit on the fence and throw in the one liner snide remarks without offering explanations?

I just tried Minions solution and it DOES work. Albeit it takes longer to encode.
Now either there is a problem with your downloaded version of TMPG. Maybe try downloading a different version or there is something on your system interfering with TMPG's operation.

I have seen instances on this board of other editing programs causing problems with TMPG and if I recollect correctly Ulead MediaStudio is one of them.
Before you say that it's unlikely that other programs affect TMPG, I can tell you from my own experience that I installed DVMPEG 6 on my system and after that TMPG wouldn't work correctly, when I unistalled it again TMPG worked correctly.

If I was you I would uninstall all other editing programs from my system and completely delete TMPG then download a new copy and try again.
If all else fails it is probably a clean install of your system you need.

This may or may not help. However, the PATH variable is for directories and not specific filenames. So remove p3packag.dll from it so that it looks more like PATH=C:progam~1TMPGENC

Hi,
I use the KVCDx2 CQ-(NTSC)-1CD Template to make my avi's into mpgs. Supposedly, you are able to fit a maximum of 120 minutes of movie time onto one CD using this template, however, the file turns out to be a file that Nero cannot burn properly into a VCD because it is over 80 minutes, and I have a 700MB, 80 min. CD. So I chose Ulead DVD Movie Factory, which is better. But now I have to encode the movie twice (TMPGEnc first, then Ulead). The problem now is that after Ulead re-encodes the mpg and the file size ends up being 875MB and it won't burn correctly and the last minutes of the movie is missing. I recently burned a movie (86 min., 665 MBs) using Ulead, and I had to split it up into 2 CDs (using TMPGEnc Merge and Cut), even though I used the 1-CD template from TMPGEnc because Ulead adds the 200MBs that it usually does when the whole movie is in one piece. This time, when I split my file it was 335MBs and Ulead added 100MBs to each half when I had to make the movie. So I was able to burn it onto 2 CDs, but I'd rather burn a full movie onto 1 CD. In fact, please let me give my procedure I use for when I try to burn the whole movie without splitting it up, just so anyone out there can help me with a shorter and better way, please.
1. Use Virtual Dub to extract the audio. I choose Full Processing Mode. Convert the audio to 44100Hz, maybe 16-bit and click on High Quality. Next, select No Compression. Save Wav and choose a name. This whole process takes about 5 minutes.
2. Next I go to TMPGEnc and choose "KVCDx2-CQ-(NTSCFilm)-1CD" because my movies are 23.976 fps with a 704x480 resolution. I load the avi file and the uncompressed audio file (because TMPGEnc does not accept compressed mp3 audio). I make the appropriate adjustments like clipping the frame to clip black borders, also Full Screen (keep aspect ratio), etc. I also go to Other Settings and choose "Constant Bitrate (CBR)" so that I can adjust the bitrate to where the end file will be less than 700MBs. I choose "CD-R 700MB (ISO)" in Unknown Media. I adjust the file to where it is less than 100% of the disk space. I encode it into an mpg. This takes anywhere from 2 and a half hours to 4 hours.
3. Next, I have to go to Ulead DVD Movie Factory and load this new mpg into the directory and hit "Make Movie" and choose "VCD: 352x240 (NTSC)" and it goes through the whole movie and encodes the rest. Next it goes to a window where it gives the end result report and I notice that the end file is almost 900MBs! From 685MBs to 900?! I now have to go to TMPGEnc and load the original mpg that TMPGEnc created and split it into 2 files and go back to Ulead and re-encode it by each half. This time it adds 100MBs to each half (total of 200MBs) Why am I having so much trouble? Does anyone know a better way to fix these darn problems? Please title your subject "VCD help" that way I don't accidentally delete it while skimming through my Junk Mail folder, because that is where your email will likely end up. You may ask why I just don't encode it first using Ulead, but the answer to that is that I make slight adjustments like clipping borders and slightly making the audio better. Load the file in Tmpgenc,make the adjustments but don't encode it there.
Use the vfapi plugin of Tmpgenc to export it to a vfapi file.
Then open this file in Ulead and encode it.

Yes there is.What you do is load your avi files in tmpgenc do your settings then go to "file" then to "save progect" and save it ,then repeat for all the files you want to encode ,then you go to "file" to "batch encode" then a window will pop up and you load your progect files in and click"run" and it will encode all your avi files..

I converted anime with .avi into .mpg, but when i burned it on a cd - rw disc my dvd player doesnt think theres a disc inserted for some reason. anyone have any idea?

The only thing I can think of is that you didn"t burn it to disk properly, the mpeg files have to be burned to disk with a program for burning vcd/svcd"s and they have to be burned in vcd/svcd mode.Nero burning rom is probably the best for this and it is very user friendly.You can download a 30 day fully functioning version from "www.nero.com"....

You also need to check to see if the media is compatible with your dvd player. For instance, my dvd player will not read CD-Rs, but will read CD-RWs. You can find a compatibility list at http://redrobe.com/dvd/vcd.php. If your DVD player is not listed, you might trying searching for your specific model and "vcd" on google.

Is there a plug-in availble to allow TMPGEnc to encode vob files?

The way to encode vob files is to frame serve them from "dvd2avi" it is a lot better than encodeing straight vob to mpeg cuz with "dvd2avi" you choose the audio track you want to extract and it seamlessly joins the vob files together so if you have 5 vob files you will have 1 mpeg file with no joining.....

I made an MPG from an AVI, 720X480 so I can write it to DVD - 8,000 kbs just to see how good it would be compared to other bitrates. MyDVD is the software that came with the HP200XI and it can't seem to handle the MPG file I made with TMPGenc. I hear the problem is the same using Dazzle DVD Complete. Any ideas?

Some DVD programs have problems loading system streams and program streams. Separate your MPEG into a video and audio stream and load them separately if your DVD software allows it.

why are they so friggin big, cant i just put them on a cr-rw cd and play them on my dvd?

You mean the mpeg files?generally speaking a 2 hour vcd movie with the standard bitrate should go on 2 disks, and a 2 hour svcd movie should go on 3 disks, to cut it use the "merge and cut" in the mpeg tools.......

I wanted to test out high resolution mpeg2 movies but an error message keeps coming up, "window size not supporeted by profile" or something. So how do I make a 1920*1080 or 2048*1536 mpeg2 movie? If TMPG cannot do this, got any tips for other encoders that can do this?

I believe that mpeg2 does not support those resolutions and no encoder will change that if you want to use those resolutions you will have to use mpeg1, only mpeg1 will support those resolutions.....

Hell yes it will, but not under the strict ISO profiles that DVD hardware players need to work. I need somthing for PC playback and software like PowerDVD dont give a flying f*ck standards.

MPEG1 is locked at 4Mbps I think which would be a major problem for HDTV material, but again some software that igonre stiff-ass standards might work on a PC.

TMPEGENC is one of those brown-nose sw that obey standards blindly, can we pleez see an options for more flexible encoding? How do you forward wishes to the main programmers?

All I know is that "tmpgenc" will not make mpeg2 at those resolutions I have tried and I get the same error as you did, but as for mpeg1 being locked at 4mbs I have encoded at mpeg1 at a lot higher bitrates than that with tmpgenc, I just tried at 20mbs and it worked, but i just tried to find a e-mail for you for the author and it said he wont accept e-mail about support issues or suggestions but you can try, click the "contact" at the top of this page,I"m not sure but I think "bbmpeg" might support those high resolutions, good luck..

TMPG will allow encoding at 1920*1080 resolutions, but only in MPEG2.
To acheive this you must select the correct profile.

Click 'Profile&level' under the 'setting' tab and select 'High profile&high Level(HP&HL)' from the drop down menu.

If you do mean aspect ratio by that,then just press "settings"in Tmpgenc,
go to the video tab and set the correct settings in the field "aspect ratio".

I have been having problems with muxing in Impressions 2.21. Impressions has been giving my an unknown problem error about halfway through the muxing process.

I downloaded a trial version of ReelDVD 2.5 and tried loading the three Mpeg files that I want to use. All three have been encoded using Tmpeg. The last and longest (40 minutes) stops at about the time that the 'unknown problem error' comes up in Impressions.

ReelDVD says that in Group of Pictures #3692 the number of fields is 40 and that I need to have a GOP equal to or less than 36.

Does this mean that the max number of GOP should be set to 18 (since I'm NTSC) instead of the default 0?

I Tried it. Changing the Max to 18 instead of leaving it at 0 was the answer.

before i convert my .avi, i want it to be displayed as widescreen when i play it on my dvd player. whenever i convert then burn an .avi, and play it on my dvd player using 1:1 aspect ratio it stretches the movie from the top of my tv to the bottom, when it should only take up 3/4 of the screen or something. how do i leave my .avi as widescreen when i convert?..

Select 16:9 as the source aspect ratio and 4:3 as the output ratio and choose 'Full screen(keep aspect ratio)'as the video arrange method.

When trying to open a previously recorded avi-file with
Pinnacle Studio7 (dc10+-card), in Tmpeg 2.55/254 I get the error message:

Cannot open or not supported.

In several forums they had a possible solution by raising the
priority of the "Direct show multimedia file reader" to 2.
Unfortunately after changing this, nothing happened and I'm still not
able to read my Pinnacle-files.

Is there anyone with a possible solution for me? Please mail me!

Strange enough it isn't possible to read the studio 7 avi files.
Even more strange, here I do not have any problem.
