Question - TE25 - MPG-2 Direct Show Problem during mpg codec problem No.21052
Recyclez  2002-05-12 01:12:35 ( ID:aax60q1fofk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I own a VDR recorder and if just recorded a SVCD. When i play it in PowerDVD is goes well. Now i want to cut off a bit from the start and the end.
When i try to load it into TmpGenc it came with the messagE
'Could not open this file with directshow'
I then loaded in to smple De-Multiplex and that worked fine.
Now i use the split source in simple multiplex and generated a new source.
I now get the message '2 s Packets cause buffer underflow'
The audio seems to be the problem.
Is there a utility that can scan for this kind of problems & fix it for me, cause i don't want de-multiplex & multiplex again every time i recordered with my VDR recorder.

Minion  2002-05-12 01:36:18 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if you only have 2 packets that cause buffer underflow that is ok it should play fine, that is only like a couple of seconds,by the way what is a vdr recorder?

Question - TE25 - Converting DIVX Video to Mpg - Red Sections No.21051
LeeRoy  2002-05-12 00:26:43 ( ID:2i1nfyvgkfc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi All,

I new to converting Avi's to Mpg's so hopefully this will be easy for someone to answer.
I have converted a few DIX avi files into MPG and they have worked fine (after splitting the sound from the AVI first). However all of the MPG's start to change slightly red during any part of the film, it then reverts when the camera angle then changes. The redness is graduail and gets progressivly worse, and seems to be reset after each camera angle change. The source file has no traces of redness.

ANY IDEA ?????

Question - TE25 - MPEG2 won't import into TMPGenc No.21048
JamesF  2002-05-11 22:45:12 ( ID:glg9w6e9yzo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I am having a similar problem posted earlier however none of the solutions have worked. I too am trying to convert a certain 3 cd Pal mpeg2 to NTSC. I have been able to successfully open the smaller sample file and perform the conversion but the full CD file generates an error or hangs up TMPGEnc. I loaded stinky's codec and it seemed to work fine for the smaller file sample. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Minion  2002-05-11 23:21:12 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

have you tried de-multiplexing the file and loading in each file seperately?.....

ASHY  2002-05-12 12:11:59 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Go to MPEGtools and using the 'simmple demultiplex' option load in your file.
Blank the audio section which will just leave your file in the 'Video' field
Click run and your movie will be extracted without the audio.

Now try and encode. When it's complete load your new movie into the 'Simple multiplex' option as the 'Video' and your old movie as the 'Audio' and choose the type as MPEG2 SVCD or MPEG1 VCD, depending on which your creating, then click run. Your new movie will then be combined with the sound from the old movie.

If you still can't load it into TMPG then make a d2v project file from the movie without the audio and load that into TMPG then follow the same instructions above to put the audio back into your movie.

Question - TE25 - Can't Convert Divx No.21043
Jonahinthewhale  2002-05-11 21:45:54 ( ID:7so6hrdzfda )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I had Windows XP I could convert Divx. Heck when I had Windows 98 I could convert Divx. Due to WinXP Problems I went to Win2000 and now it is telling me that it is unsupported. Before you ask, YES I have installed the newest version of the software and the Divx codex. I took the exact same Divx clip and tried converting it on Win 98 and it works but is too slow. please help me.

P.S. If anyone can help me with converting to Divx, Please email me (JonahEarl@hotmail.com) I have tried Virtual Dub and other programs but even though I have installed divx, it doesn't give me divx as a conpression option, Thanks

Andre  2002-05-11 22:43:50 ( ID:kjgfmt97eg6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This may not help you, but can give a hint.

I've still nearly the same problem under Win98. After reinstalling the system, TMPEGenc told me, that it was unsupported. After this I installed the newest versin of TMPEGenc, now the file seems to be supported, but after converting, its not playable in MS-mediaplayer and not cutable in TMPFGenc.

Maybe It's importent to install first the codecs and after this TMPGenc. VirtualDub recognises the new codecs pretty well, so there should be no difference. If VirtualDub hasn't the new Divx codec 5 recognized, there was something gone wrong with the registration of divx 5. Try to install the codec and then TMPGenc on another system, before you reinstall yours. And try to remember, which programs you installed, before it did'nt work anymore. This could be the reason for desaster on my sytem, although I didn't fix it yet.

Maybe it's only a question of the settings...

Have you tried to raise your direct show filter?if not go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "vfapi plugins" and raise your "direct show" to "2"...

ASHY  2002-05-12 13:10:20 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do you have the latest DirectX 8.1 installed.
You need this for DiVx 5.

If you have and you still can't see the codec try installing 4.12.

ASHY

ASHY  2002-05-12 13:12:52 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Another suggestion is to have the Divx 3.11 codec installed along with 4.12 or 5.

Divx 5 is not backwards compatible with 3.11 movies so you need to have both installed.

Question - TE25 - Stopping motion blur? No.21040
Anon  2002-05-11 19:45:22 ( ID:ld4aaq7ibaw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I convert a DV AVI to MPEG1, I get "motion blur" in fast scenes.
Someone suggested setting "Motion Precision Detection" to high, but
that didn't solve it. Someone else suggested deinterlacing, but which
option would I choose -- there's heaps of deinterlacing options. I am
encoding a PAL DV AVI to an NTSC MPEG1 file of 352x240 pixels. Thanks!

ASHY  2002-05-12 12:13:56 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do you mean real blur or a combing effect on fast moving verticals.

ASHY

Anon  2002-05-12 14:27:54 ( ID:ld4aaq7ibaw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Someone sent me the answer, which I'll reprint here:

Under advanced set the source to interlaced.
Under deinterlace set the checkmark.
double click on it, then select the even-odd field option.(field
adaptation).

Works great!

Question - TE25 - After converting, file is 3 times as big and no audio No.21038
Agent 86  2002-05-11 19:03:19 ( ID:wvtpxnierrl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert an AVI to VCD and after encoding the file it becomes 3 times as long with no audio. The last 2/3 of the movie show the last frame. I've converted avis before and never had this problem. I checked another movie that i converted and used the same settings. That movie encoded just fine. I'd appreciate any help on this.

Minion  2002-05-12 00:09:40 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

there seems to be some sort of glitch in your avi file, you can edit the last 2/3 of and strip the audio from your avi file and convert it to wav with "virtuadub" and encode the audio to mp2 and multi-plex then new audio file with your mpeg file you edited.......

Question - TE25 - MPEG1 results not playable by MS-Mediaplayer No.21035
André  2002-05-11 17:43:35 ( ID:kjgfmt97eg6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I worked for a year fine with tmpgenc and Hauppauge WinTV radio (analog).

But a big problem occurs after installing a Hauppauge WinTV DVB digital card only for a few days. After this and reinstalling Win98 the mpg-output file isn't playable by ms-mediaplayer and not by 'tmpgenc/merge and cut' too.
I tried first the 'old' divx4 driver, than the new divx 5 driver. And I updated to the last version of tmpgenc. Whats wrong with my system? Does anyone have an idea?
(Input file allways Divx-compressed, output allways Mpeg-1 352x288 VBR, Pal 25 fps. This settings drop a 4 GB divx-movie to a 1 GB Mpeg-1 movie)

Minion  2002-05-11 23:40:50 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your problem could be that you are playing your mpegs in "media player" media player sucks for mpegs on my system I cant play mpegs with media player, they play upside down with no audio or won"t play at all.get dvd playing software like "powerdvd".try to get rid of the drivers from the win tv digital card cuz that is when your problems started..

Andre  2002-05-12 10:48:36 ( ID:kjgfmt97eg6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank you for your help.
But the problem must be resolved, because I'm unable to cut and merge with TMPEGenc too.
I fogot to say, that I have the following results after converting, when I load the converted MPEG-1 file in 'Cut and Merge' and doubleclick on it. If the converted file is based on DivX4 I get the message, that the file is unsupported; if it is based on DivX5, it's loaded, but when I click for example on start playing, I've a black screen and no sound. When I stopp, then I can see one (the last?) frame. No cut or merge is possible. There must be a little wrong - maybe a setting in virtual dub, with wich I captured the source file in DivX.

Request - TE25 - Compliant SVCD (MPEG2) Template, Please ? No.21027
Robert Filberth  2002-05-11 15:43:27 ( ID:k6hgy9s1hlj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Please send me your favorite (and proven) SVCD template (NTSC) for version 2.54 that maintains compliance and produces highest quality without exceeding the standard. Please send it as an e-mail attachment.

I have been using TMPGEnc for some months now and have been successful most of the time. They play just fine on my Hitachi 505 stand-alone DVD player. But, I feel that I may be missing something. Here are my specs:

P4 (w/384mb RAM)
WinXP Home
Dedicated 2nd HDD for video capture, sound files, stills, and encoding
DV Camcorder
Firewire (I capture from the camcorder in DV footage)
Pinnacle Studio 7 (w/latest patch) - I edit DV footage w/S7 and Make Movie to uncompressed AVI, then
TMPGEnc 2.54 to encode to compliant SVCD (MPEG2) w/2-Pass VBR (new), High Quality, 2520K bitrate (MAX=2520K, AVE=1950, MIN=950). The result is a smaller file than using CBR, so I can fit more minutes on a CD.
NERO 5.5 (w/latest patch) - it never complains about the MPEG2 that I use.

They play fine on my DVD player, BUT will not play on my friends or relatives players (even though their player's specs (owner's manual) says they will play VCD and SVCDs). THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

I used Bitrate Viewer to check my MPEG2 files and it says:

BITRATE:
Peak = 2637
Average = 1852

Q-LEVEL:
Peak = 19.37
Average = 11.62

FRAMERATE: 29.97

Nom. Bitrate: 2,520

Chroma Format: 4:2:0

Please, can you help me? Are my files out of compliance, or what? Beats me? The SVCDs won't play in anyone's players, but will play fine in mine. Please send me a compliant NTSC configuration template... that produces high quality video on my TV and A/V surround-sound system... or some advise or suggestions, please. Thank you very much. I appreciate your help in this matter.

Robert Filberth  2002-05-11 17:26:54 ( ID:k6hgy9s1hlj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don't know... have read that should set Full Screen (keep aspect ratio), but I use Full Screen. Please advise... suggestions, please? Thank you.

ASHY  2002-05-11 20:01:44 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How many other players have you tried this on and what are the models?

If you say that the manual states that the players are capable of handling VCD and SVCD it could be that it only refers to the pre-recorded type as is usually the case with cheaper players. These players will play VCD/SVCD, but can't read CDR so are unable to play the home made variety.
Even so some of these players are able to play CDRW, so try this.

Another reason could be your settings.
You need to be more detailed with the settings you post.
Most important is:

1. Video Bitrate
2. Audio Bitrate
3. Resolution
4. Framerate

Some players will only accept bitrates at certain settings. The players you are using may not be able to handle the lower bitrates you are using in VBR.
Try the standard CBR template on a CDRW and see what happens.

Robert Filberth  2002-05-12 04:17:01 ( ID:k6hgy9s1hlj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MPEG2 480x480 29.92 VBR 1950kbps Layer2 44100hz 224kbps

Using 2-Pass (new) VBR, I set the MAX to 2520kps, AVE to 1950, and MIN to 950 and use High Quality (Motion Search). It takes about 5 hours to encode it to MPEG2. Bitrate Viewer says the MPEG file averages 1852 and has a Peak of 2637. The 35 minute movie has a size of 550mb and easily fits on a CD. I finalize the disks with NERO. I use a variety of SmartSounds (44K) during the movie for music and sound effects. I tried CBR at 2520 and the file was too large to fit on the CD.

I have tried both R and RW disk and both play fine in my DVD player, but won't play in others. But, on my player, they sound and look great.

Got any other suggestions, please. They won't play in my friends' players even though their user's manuals indicates they will or should play. Are my settings out of compliance? Most other settings, I do not modify:

* Video arrange: full screen
* Detect screen change, checked
* No motion search for stills, checked (I have a 1-minute slide show at the end of the movie)
* Field order: Bottom first (field B)
* Profile and Level: (MP:ML) - isn't this for DVD?

I realize that SVCDs won't play in many stand-alone DVD players, but if their owners manual says they will, why don't they play as they do in my player. My player is a progressive scan unit with two lasers.

Got any suggestions, please? Well, if they won't play in other's players, guess its time to move on and upgrade to DVD+RW/+R. The new Sony DVD/CD Rewriter will burn everything to include +R disks and has a $50 rebate on to the end of June... bringing the total to below $400 and a 5-pack of +R disks for $21. I can get the whole thing for $425 to include postage. PLUS, I will be able to get at least 3 home movies on one disk with a graphic menu to select one or the other. Using a little less resolution, I should be able to get 6 to 10 movies on 1 4.7gb disk. AND, they will play and most existing DVD stand-alone players. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE NEW +RW/+R DVD REWRITERS (not the initial rewriters that would only play +RW disks), PLEASE? Well, SVCDs was fun, but time has come and gone for them. Time to go DVD or wait, again, for the new format to come out in about 2 years (already settled by major manufactures) that will allow much-much more video on one disk than the 4.7gb format allows? I think I'll jump-in with the 4.7gb DVD+RW/+R format and if the new format is fully implemented, move up to it in a couple of years. Or, the +RW/+R format will win the battle, maybe, probably not if what I have read about the newly approved format is true. Ooo, can you imagine 14 to 20 35-minutes DVD movies on one disk?!!! I've got to have a format that I can share with family and friends. The DVD quality should be even better... can't wait. Looks like DVD+RW/+R is it for now, then....

The only thing I will change is hardware. I'll still use:

* Pinnacle Studio 7 for firewire capture, editing, and encoding to AVI
* TMPGEnc for encoding to DVD format
* NERO to burn to DVD+RW and +R disks w/menus (5-pack of +R is now about $20... and to be lower in the near future)

Or, may use Studio 7 or NERO's DVD output format to skip a step... depending on the resulting video quality.

Glad I got all that off my chest. Time to move on... goodbye SVCDs... sorry to see you go, but ........

PS. I've shot 6 movies (tapes) over the past year, worked with only one, and I have not yet finalized that one movie! Guess it won't be final until I go DVD.

Question - TE25 - Error Message No.21025
Michael Masuch  2002-05-11 12:18:39 ( ID:p4bakfomxpk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I created MPEG2-Files from AVI-Videocamera Files. Now I'm not able to play it with any tool on my PC. So I choose the MPEG-Tool Cut&Merge in the encoder software and opened the file. I received an Error message with the following content: "Could not open file wit direct show (0x80040200)"

Before that I installed directX 8.1 and the latest version of windows media player. The media player tries to download a codec, but it failed although the Explorer safty settings are low. The error message contains although 0x80040200.

So, there must be something wrong, but I dont know what!

Do you have an idea?

Best regards,
Michael

ASHY  2002-05-11 12:26:25 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to install some MPEG2 player software such as windvd or powerdvd.
Or the alternative is to install an MPEG2 codec.
Do a search on google for MPEG2 codecs.

Question - TE25 - MPEG Tools, who can I set other types? No.21018
aplesche  2002-05-11 11:12:19 ( ID:sr.dep3dv1. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

At MPEG Tools I can only choose from 5 vcd, svcd options with fixed parameters. While I am living in the pal world, the last type specifies svcd ntsc. i want to set pal and a rate of 3600.

How can I change the types, or add other *.mcf types?

Minion  2002-05-11 11:25:04 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

load the "unlock mfc" template and you can change all the perameters of your output file ,after you have set all the perameters of your file click the save button at the bottom right of the screen and you can save the settings in a template.....

aplesche  2002-05-11 11:56:40 ( ID:ksbce6oprxm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for your quick response, but the stream types in the mpeg tools dialog boxes are not the same as the *.mcf files that can be edit after unlocked.

So I still have the same problem. After editing a vob file I want a direct output as 720x576, 3600, 48000, and this isn't offered by the "types"

ASHY  2002-05-11 12:38:04 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Somebody is confused here and I'm not sure if it's you or me.
I think you misunderstand what the MPEGtools are for.
The MPEGtools can't be used for encoding or changing the parameters in a file.
They are purely used for combining or spliting Video and audio files.

If you really mean the templates then all you have to do to change the parameters is load the template you wish to use and then double click the unlock.mcf template, this will allow you to set whichever parameters you want, but this won't affect the MPRGtools.

Exactly what is it you are trying to acheive?

aplesche  2002-05-11 13:47:19 ( ID:sr.dep3dv1. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

may be I want to do something in a complicated way.

Example: I have a video, 720x576 PAL, 5 minutes. 1 minute at the end is advertising.

I am cutting with MPEG Tools and the type svcd (vbr)(ntsc). while there is no svcd (cbr) and PAL I get after editing and clicking the run button a mpg-file in NTSC format.

So now I have to compress again with my required settings the 4 minute video into PAL and loosing quality?

I want to save one compression.

Thanks for your help.

ASHY  2002-05-11 14:18:16 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I doubt the resulting file is as you described as the setting you are referring to DOES NOT exist in the MERGE&CUT feature of MPEG tools.

These are the settings you should see:
MPEG-1 system (automatic)
MPEG-1 sytem (VBR)
MPEG-1 Video CD
MPEG-1 Video CD(non standard)
MPEG-2 Program(VBR)
MPEG-2 Super VideoCD(VBR)

To cut your movie follow these insructions.

1. Click the MERGE&CUT tab in File>MPEGtools

2. Click the 'Type' box and choose 'MPEG-2 Super VideoCD(VBR)'
(It doesn't matter if MPEG is VBR or CBR)

3. Click the 'Add' button and add your file.

4. Highlight your file and click edit. Use the trimming options to trim your file and click 'OK'

5. Now choose where you want to output the file and then click 'Run'

Your file will be cut and will have exactly the same parameters as your original.
