This happens to me too, sometimes. First of all, check in Option->Preview
that you do not have preview fixed to 320x240 (check "do not fix"). Second,
try opening the same file again. For me, the second time around, it works ;-)
>When I try to open a DVD NTSC file I get this error message : can not open, or unsupported. Note: I have no problem opening MPEG 1 files just MPEG 2.
Whilst merging 2 files encoded using TMPGENC for VCD, the output file has a beep and a break in the audio at the end of part one. I've also noticed that there is a break in the audio at the end of part 2. On using the merge/cut just to process a signle part the same thing happened a gap in the audio at the end of the output file. Can anyone help with this or is this a bug?
I am using Pinnicle to capture video and edit it no problems there. The problem is how to make a VCD to play on my DVD player. I have been able to make a VCD and play it on my DVD in MPEG1 but the quality is poor. I have latest versions of Nero and Easy CD Creator to burn CD's. I have downloaded TMPGEnc and updated Pinnicle. Can anyone help or give me a good site link that may help?
1) try MPEG-2
2) what is the bitrate capacity of your DVD player when playing VCD? My player reads only up to 2500bps when playing VCD. This isn't all that great if your video has any motion (in my opinion). If your player can read higher than 2500, try encoding at a higher bitrate. I haven't done this but have read that others have done this with success.
3) Unfortunately the next step would be a DVD burner. I'm doing it a bit now and am happy.

Yes the vcdhelp.com has many tutorials, even if they don't relate to your sys.
The guide for using Dazzle and TMPGEnc can be applied to your sys.
They have sample files there, I suggest trying XVCD if you can't do SVCD (mpeg-2) on your player.
I capture at a higher bitrate at 352x240, and my player plays to nearly 2000k bitrate instead of 1150k.
That guide will help explain how to use settings on TMPGEnc, and there are other guides there - to help making better-looking VCDs.
You have the same quest as all of us, basically.
You could download some multimedia postings for sampling Quality from the binaries groups also. For example TV show Millennium is excellent SVCD - but others are not much better than VCD.
Use Virtualdub to make a wav-file of the sound and then use the wav-file as the auidosource in TMPG-enc. Make sure that you save the wav at 44.1 kHz. (Audio-Conversion in VirtualDub) and have no compression. (Audio-Compression in VirtualDub). You must have the "Full processing mode" marked in the audiomenu. After this just "Filemenu ==> save wav".
the reason some divx movies don"t have sound is because some divx movies have ac3 audio which "tmpgenc" can"t read ,I don"t think "virtuadub" can read it eithere but you can try,I use "sound forge" to extract the audio and encode it to wav then load that in tmpgenc for the audio..
If sound and video work in VirtualDub, why don't you use the integrated frameserver . Works great on my system (also you can apply better filters thru Virtualdub without saving to another avi first)
Hi - I am using 2.54 to merge/cut some files that were captured with DVC II (SVCD) and (DVD) [mpeg2 in general]. All i get EDIT is a black screen - but i do get audio...
This used to work in 2.53 for me...
Any ideas??? Thank you for your consideration & TIME!
the merge and cut and all the mpeg tools aren"t gauranteed to work with mpegs that are not encoded with "tmpgenc", try a different video editor like "ulead video studio pro" or "media studio pro".....
um, hi this is sizzy and i have a major problem. my videos after converting them to mpeg files through tmpgenc has scratches in them. it's so annoying, i mean with every other second or so there seems to be a scratch. i tried one of those toolame encoder and it kept on saying i can't use it. help me anybody...
if you can"t get "toolame" to work try "scmpx" you can get it by looking on any search engine,if you can"t get any of them to work then you have problems other than scratchy audio ......
Did you just convert the file to mpeg, or did you also split it using the tmpgenc mpeg tools? I have had this problem, but cured it by avoiding the split/merge tools and updating to version 2.54a.

Hey VeloBorg, i don't know about the split/merge tools... where is it and how can i avoid it? i also took your advice and downloaded 2.54a version, and it got rid of the scratchy skipping sound that I had before, but then half way through the video there were no sound... why is that... do you know? people advised me to use virtual dub, and i have it downloaded on my computer but i don't even know how it works. If you can help me with this problem, then I think I'm set...
I am trying to recode MPG-2 29.97 as 23.97, and having trouble with the last few frames of a clip. So I tried the source range feature, to specify the subset of the clip I wanted to process - and I have found two problems:
1. it seems that the forward/backward buttons on the source range window are not quite opposites of each other: if I move forward to a particular frame, then move past it, then back, then forward - the frame i am interested in does not appear at the same frame position the second (and later) times;
2. the processing is limited to a range *like* the one I specify, but not the exact same one - but this could be due to 1.
Am I the only one to see this? I am using TMPGEnc 2.54a...
With "tmpgenc"it is hard to get it to encode to the frame cuz it seems to go to the closest key frame instead, what you can try to do is edit a couple frames off the mpeg after encodeing but it still will go to the closest key frame ,I think it is a glitch with editing mpegs....
> because how would you like to do Merge and Cut if a video would not start necessarily with a keyframe
But if we are talking about the source range, then it *is* a glitch...
I should be able to select any frame I want as starting and ending points - and TMPGEnc should make the first frame I selected into a key frame on output, if the chosen frame was not one to begin with... And it should output all frames up to the ending frame i chose, whether that frame is or isn't a key frame - it can always fix up the output, if necessary. No?
I have not been able to find a solution to this problem, (it is not TMPEGEnc related, well sort of) Ever since I upgraded to XP. I cannot play my burned VCD's on puter. They work fine on my stand alone DVD player. The Mpeg file plays fine. I have tried several software programs from Windows Media Player to Power DVD. Power DVD will even play vob file but not a dat file on a VCD.
Any ideas? I have searhed the web, and all I found was alot of people with the same problem with XP. If any one has any ideas could you please email me as I don't have time to check this site to often.
Thanks in Advance
Don"t know what you mean I have the new plus version and I have "scmpx" as my external encoder but "toolame" works for me two, maybe there is a problem with your download of tmpgenc try downloading a new one........
I am new and would like to know why when i try to convert an ati file which my videocard is an all in wonder radeon that the tmpg 2.54a says that avi file is not supported or cannot open file i am trying to convert Harts war on 2 cd's i adjusted enviromental settings to zero except direct show which is on 2 I have converted other short 5 min movies but cannot convert any others! Can anyone help me? I am running xp with 1.6 ghz 80g hard drive but no dvd player yet only home dvd which i would like to play these movies.
Thanks!
ATI file ehh, never heard of it must be a capture format for ati video cards,is it an avi file?try captureing to uncompressed avi or another avi capture format, and try raising the "avi compatability reader" and"open dml" file reader"
in the "vfapi plugins"..Tmpgenc" is mostly compatible with avi, mov ,and mpeg formats so if you are captureing to a non avi format you will have problems,if you could encode your ati file to say divx4.12 with "virtua dub" then it would work .but try raising the filters first before you do a time consumeing encode to divx.........
I have a problem very similar to this one (hpd777): I have captured some video avi dv files from my videocamera, then I mounted a complete movie from them with premiere 6.0 and the output exported to a dv avi file.
Tmpgenc is unable to import the dv avi file exported from premiere but works OK with dv avi files captured from my videocamera.
I've used several versions of Tmpgenc but the result is the same.
The demultiplex isn"t for encodeing it is to seperate the audio and video streams so you can load the mpeg2 in to "tmpgenc" to encode to mpeg1, if you are getting the ilegal mpeg stream error while demultiplexing even when the setting at the top is set for "super vcd" then there is something wrong with the mpeg, or it wasn"t made by "tmpgenc" and could have a incompatable audio format, you can try to make an avi out of it and load that into "tmpgenc" but that would take twice as long as usual,....
Is it a svcd file or is it on a disk,if it is a file it is the same as encodeing an avi file to vcd,but sometimes "tmpgenc" wont let you load a mpeg2 file into it.so you then have to de-multiplex it and then load each file individualy and then it should work, but if you still have problems you can make a project file with it useing dvd2avi...I hope one of these things will work....
go to "file " then to "mpeg tools" then to "de-multiplex" load your mpeg2/svcd file in and click "run".It will give you a "m2v" video file and a "mp2" audio file ,then load the "m2v" file in for your video and the "mp2" file in as audio, this should get it loaded in "tmpgenc"....
you have to make sure that you choose super vcd setting at the top of the page....but if you keep getting the error then there is something wrong with your mpeg file....you can try to make a divx avi out of the mpeg and then encode that but it will take a long time.....you can e-mail me and I"ll tell you how, that is if you can"t find another solution....
