Question - TE25 - divx to mpeg No.18813
Rooster  2002-04-12 14:23:57 ( ID:lbmzvc69ysm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does anyone have instructions on how to go from divx to mpeg? I am a newbie.

Rooster  2002-04-12 14:25:26 ( ID:lbmzvc69ysm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

FOrgot to add. I want DVD to be the final format. divx to mpeg to dvd.

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 14:28:55 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

load in the avi file in TMPGENC

choose a template, or create your own.

encode!

Then after this, you may wish to encode the MPEG file to dvd again.

I am making dvds. Should I encode via "cbr" or "vbr?"

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 14:28:02 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

VBR because variable bitrate!

Techno

Ashy  2002-04-13 10:41:07 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would use 'Constant quality(CQ)'.
This is similar to 'Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR)' but gives better quality and file sizes and if you examine the bitrates and quantization you will find it encodes more or less the same as a two pass encode.

Techno  Home )  2002-04-13 11:08:28 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

yeh, that's right, I would use that too, but I thought it was a choice of VBR or CBR!

Tried most of the above....little success!

Got toolame to work in TMPGEnc but the sound is no better. (bearing in mind, when playing it in original .avi format
the sound is ok). Besweet doesn't seem to work in XP (even through command line), and the same goes for avi2mpg1.exe.
Virtual dub doesn't accept avi. files! (by this point I'm pulling my hair out). An finally where can I find wavelab (no
mention of it in www.vcdhelp.com)!?

Can you still help me?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 12:53:57 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used besweet 2 days ago in XP, worked fine, the demo version of wavelab does not save the file/encode as MP3.

search for it on google.com

Techno

Ashy  2002-04-13 11:12:55 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Toolame will not make a jot of difference to the sound. it is the samplerate converter that is the problem not the audio converter.
What do you mean Virtual dub doesn't accept AVI files?. This is it's main process. You must not have the required codec installed for your file if thats the case or you have a Directshow problem.

Give Goldwave a try. It's free to download and doesn't impose any restrictions.

Question - TE25 - smr encoded avi not supported..? No.18801
agastino  Home )  2002-04-12 12:26:45 ( ID:oycyzbxb0cc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an SMR encoded video I want to convert to a VCD PAL MPEG1 file, but an error comes up saying "File 'filename' can not open, or unsupported. The file itself can be viewed perfectly in Windows Media Player, is there, or will there be support for these types of avi files? or is there another way to convert to MPEG1?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 12:37:40 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi there.

try to increase the directshow filters, the avi vfw and the aviopen dml filters to a higher priority in the environment settings.

this should work, if not then I guess TMPGENC does not support SMR files.

Question - TE25 - Big files from MOV No.18797
Zazou  2002-04-12 12:07:03 ( ID:.fibbv99srk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

converting to MPEG1 from .mov file (using QT filter) and getting huge file 7.5MB compared to 850kb using a different source with same 2-pass VBR or AutoVBR settings.
Got any ideas?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 12:10:42 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MPEG is completly different than QT files. It also depends on the motion and the settings you have used, this is why it becomes larger.

Techno

Zazou  2002-04-12 12:16:58 ( ID:.fibbv99srk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am setting the output for video @ 120kbps and audio 32kbs. It's a 40 sec file so the output should be <1MB whatever the source (AVI or QT). So why is it 850kbyte from AVI and 7.5MB from QT?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 12:36:47 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

because they work differently, they are different formats! :)

Question - TE25 - Purchasing tmpgenc licence - non secure connection? No.18794
rowan  2002-04-12 11:55:51 ( ID:5d11mhsrkxr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

Is there a way to purchase a tmpgenc licence securely? The order page is http:// only (unencrypted), not https://

I don't want to send my card info in clear text format.

To be honest I am also not too ecstatic about the fact that pegasys-inc seems to use a simple form submitted to their own web site, rather than a trusted third party biller like ibill that handles the nitty gritty of the card transaction.

I want to buy a licence! But not like this!

BTW, does any official electronic documentation exist for tmpgenc, apart from the popup help shown when you move the mouse over various fields?

Cheers.

First of all, this is wrong place to discuss for this matter.
You should look for certain E-mail address at:
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/

> Is there a way to purchase a tmpgenc licence securely? The order page is
> http:// only (unencrypted), not https://
You have made only one steps, so you have not seen "https".
If you enter and make 2 steps at purchase page (which you have visited),
you will see "https".

rowan  2002-04-13 08:01:41 ( ID:rjnplyqdpyh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, sorry for putting my foot in it, you are right.

I couldn't find an email address. I tried the support form but it requires a lot of detail about my system when I just want to inform tmpgenc about problems I had with purchasing - and when I click on back all the fields are erased, so I have to start again!

I was wrong about the unencrypted signup, the final purchase is encrypted. Please ignore my other message.

However, there are two problems with the purchase sequence:

1. The first page that asked for my phone number wouldn't accept "+" (the international country code symbol)

2. The second page reports the error "(Enter your telephone number with HALF size numbers only)" ... I think it's expecting me to enter a Japanese phone number. I had to enter "000000000" to get it to go through.

I *almost* gave up in frustration, but I finally have my serial number now. tmpgenc may want to review the purchase process because these problems may hamper sales. Thanks for a great product!

Cheers.

Question - TE25 - interlace or non interlace No.18788
stefany  2002-04-12 07:18:15 ( ID:bvgmnsq6wsm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK...computer monitors like non interlace and tvs like interlace....so with TMPGENC under the VCD template it encodes non-interlace under the video tab.

When you select the DVD template it encodes interlace. Is this because it assumes a tv monitor playback? and the VCD template assumes a computer monitor playback?

So do we need to make 2 versions of our videos? One for the computer and one for the DVD player hooked up to the tv?

One more...if you are doing a DVD template and have "deinterlace" selected
under the Advanced tab.....the encode mode(under the Video tab) will be interlace because of the DVD template...which over rides the other?

THanks,
Steve

Hmm I think I have been doing some of this stuff.

When I was converting a DVD to SVCD. I think it is explained what to use in a guide somewhere, think it was purplemans guides and you can find a link to them from http://doom9.net under his links :)

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 09:52:54 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

DVD's are interlaced! :)

You do not need 2 versions at all. If you encode as DVD on the PC, then that is fine, you can burn this to a DVDR and play it on the DVD player (provided if your DVD player supports DVDR) The quality would, mostly, be the same.

Question - TE25 - My CD-RW won't read my DVD's No.18776
abzeus  2002-04-12 06:43:23 ( ID:vod8dbftnhn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I put in a DVD in my burner it doesn't read it and show as if there is nothing in my drive. The 2.53 Software says that,Quote: The minimum requirements is that you have a CD-R/CD-RW Drive.

My system info:

HP Pavillion
Windows XP Home Edition
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600t Processor (speed: 1393 MHz )
512mb Ram
107.38gb Local Disk
101.71gb Hard Drive
HP CD-Writer, Device Type: DVD/CD-Rom Drives, Driver Version: 5.1.2535.0

Any help would be appreciated as I have paid for this software and I'd like it to work! Please respond to me at abzeus@hotmail.com THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ffast  2002-04-12 07:32:19 ( ID:rq73n1voqvj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your message does not make sence AT ALL because :

1. It is natural that CD-R/RW drive does not read DVD.

2. TMPGEnc has nothing to do with DVD/CD-RW issue because it is just an Encoding software

3. Readme.txt and License.txt of TMPGEnc NEVER tell "The minimum requirements is that you have a CD-R/CD-RW Drive".

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 09:51:10 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Exactly!

To burn DVD's, you need a DVD-R/RW! To burn CD's, you need a CDR/RW!

These "extras" are luxery thus TMPGENC does not say anything about having a DVDR or a CDR

Techno

abzeus  2002-04-12 11:41:05 ( ID:9ubcowe6odw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, I have read, and I do understand the README.EN and the LICENSE.EN don't say anything about having a CD-R/RW but on the site that I purchased the software, ( spicycomet.net ), in the GUIDE under TROUBLESHOOTING AND SUPPORT, Question
#3 says exactly this:

Do I need a DVD-ROM in my PC? and the response they give is: The minimum requirements is that you have a CD-R/CD-RW drive. If you wish to capture your VHS or 8mm tapes you also need a TV-in or TV-tuner card to transfer your video to your hard drive. Please contact your PC manufacturer for more details on whether your PC meets these requirements.

I think it is misleading information, and I'm sure that anyone who isn't a COMPUTER GENIUS would agree and take it the same way.

Anyway, how do you work it without a DVD-R/RW? Please help!! What else is needed for this software to work?

Please don't think I'm joking! This is for real! I purchased it 2 days ago and I can't figure it out. I've even faxed a request to spicycomet and they have not responded. I thought, and still do that this software is a joke unless someone proves me wrong! Read my 2 previous question submissions if your a new reader. Please!!!

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 13:28:39 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ALL u need to encode is:

a computer system
a hdd

some videos you want to encode

that is all!

if u want to make VCD then u need a CD-R/RW

If you want to make DVD, then you need a DVD-R/RW

The last 2 are OPTIONAL!!!!

Ashy  2002-04-12 13:52:56 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think you have got yourself confused with the details.
TMPGenc is merely a piece of software that will convert one file such as an AVI to another file such as MPEG1 or MPEG2.

It is not designed as a full blown, all in one solution for converting DVD's directly to VCD all in one go. You need other extra software to do this and there are many ways to accomplish this which youn will find right here on this board.

What exactly is your goal.
Also please post the link to the details you refer to because I need to investigate this further.

Ashy  2002-04-12 14:08:33 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

it's no wonder they won't answer your emails.
I have just been to the site you refer to and I'm afraid you have been duped.
You should have read the details more carefully.

All this software is, is to merely transfer any files which you already have on your system such as downloaded video files, (which is why it states you don't need a DVD drive) to a CDR in the DVD format using TMPG to convert the files to the DVD format.

Don't blame TMPGenc, blame this company http://www.spicycomet.com/ for ripping you off because you could do the same thing for free using TMPGenc with other software.

Question - TE25 - Is this right? No.18774
stefany  2002-04-12 05:35:07 ( ID:bvgmnsq6wsm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have razor edges to my action video....I am tranfering video from a Sony
TRV-230 DV camera to Windows Movie Maker(XP) with the DV template.

After I encode with TMP to get MPEG, I have these razor edges to most movement.

I have read about interlace/deinterlace.....I thought we want to have the MPEG file interlaced for VHS or DVD playback...but it disappears when I use
several deinterlace options.

What is the correct action here?

Thanks,
Steve

Techno  Home )  2002-04-12 09:56:23 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, if your video has "lines/streaks", then just use the DVD template and encode. The problem should be solved, if it is still there then, load the encoded DVD video and then select the de-interlacing options and choose the correct one.

If it does not work, the MPEG2 filters you have will not be working correctly, try installing the LIGOS filters
