I am having a similar problem. Except V4 will just hang then crash. I sent samples of my TS files and haven't heard anything other than I should re-encode the TS to mpg and try again... I don't know about you, but that's the lamest response I have ever received from you guys.
XPress 3 works fine but I don't like to pay for v4 if it doesn't do at the very least what version 3 does. Make sence?
hello everybody. i did a "great codec update" (one of those huge packages of 40 MB) same days ago... after that TMPG did not decode WMV files any more - before it worked perfectly. Well, i uninstalled that package and reinstalled all the codecs i had on my system before (hope so at least). I read all the other questions about wmv. I have installed WMV Codec 9 (the file is running on WMP) and Direct Show is set to a high prio... so what's wrong here? What codec do i need to convert WMV in TMPG - or where can i load th VFAPI Plugin? Thanx fpr response. spcmnk
I successfully installed TMPGEnc 2.5 Plus and DVD Author 2.0 on my laptop, but I want to installed TMPGEnc 2.5 Plus on my desktop computer at home, so I can de-interlace some videos while I'm away.
The desktop used to have the free version on it. I tried to use Windows XP's "add/remove programs" uninstaller to remove it, but it didn't work...it flashed a window really quickly but then didn't do anything else, and TMPGEnc remained on the list of installed programs. I deleted all the files and removed the registry entries by hand.
When I try to install 2.5 Plus, the version I paid for, I get an error that says: Error 1714: the older version of TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.
My source video is all PAL DV-AVI, 720 x 576, 25fps, interlaced. Unfortunately TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress is reading them as 360 x 288, 25fps and defaults to "progressive". The "analyse" button is unavailable so I am manually changing display mode to "Interlaced, lower field first". But the "Source format" is still shown as 360x288.
It shows that the "DirectShow file reader" has been used. Perhaps the problem is related to the file reader.
TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 and Procoder 2 both read my files correctly.
How can I fix this?
There is screengrab showing the incorrect clip information here:
Thanks very much for that Anton. I notice your system uses "AVI file reader", not "DirectShow file reader".
I got this reply from TMPGEnc support:

I tried installing qdv.dll files from 2 laptops but the problem persists. I also tried replacing quartz.dll. I also temporarily installed TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress on my laptop and it reads my files correctly and shows "DirectShow file reader" as the source format. So something is wrong with my system.
I ran Gspot on the file on both the laptop and the problem system and everything was identical.
Here are the screengrabs showing all of the output from Gspot:
I have a lot of software on this computer. Much of it is video related, including Sony Vegas 6, Quicktime Pro 7, Windows Media Player 10 and it has all been working correctly.
What else can I try? I really don't want to make a full system reinstall if I can help it.

I had tried this previously. If I disable the DirectShow file reader (or all the file readers except the AVI file reader) then TMPGEnc Xpress cannot open the file at all. It will open the audio part only of my AVI files that have audio.
If I disable the AVI file reader (or all the file readers except the DirectShow file reader) then I have the same problem with incorrect resolution.
Here are 2 frame grabs from "AVI settings" showing my codecs:
They are shot on a Sony VX2000 PAL camera as 25fps interlaced and they are captured as a "Type2 DV-avi file" in Sclive 2.1.
Some of them are edited in Sony Vegas 6 and then rendered from Vegas as PAL DV-AVI using Vegas' built in DV codec and some were rendered as Microsoft DV-AVI from Premiere 6.5 but they all have the same problem.
A tiny test PAL-DV-AVI file of your footage would be greatly appreciated. My email is in the link next to my name.
Someone else today reported that a 9Mb music file was bounced. I don't know why. Any chance of sending it by www.yousendit.com instead?
By the way I do have the Canopus DV codec because I have Procoder but I thought my other DV codecs etc would be able to DECODE your file anyway even if I don't have the Canopus codec? I might be wrong on that. The MS one will be well worth testing anyway.
Thanks very much for the files Anton. I got a reply from support and my problem is now fixed!

As they suspected mine was set to "half size" and by changing it to "full size" it fixed the problem.
By the way Anton, the way things WERE set up on my system your Canopus DV-AVI file displayed at full size (in old Windows Media Player 6.4 it uses the "Video Renderer" filter which has no size to set) and your Microsoft DV-AVI file displayed at half size because in WMP6.4 it uses the "DV Video Decoder" filter which had the half size set.
Nick: I had exactly the same problem when I first tried to view a miniDV tape that I had captured in Roxio EMC7.5. That showed a 720X480 file, but TMPGExpress 4 only displayed 360X240.
It's a brilliant solution, but it's not our responsibility to go through such a common problem, it's the company's responsibility!! They are an incredibly opaque company (Japanese or not), and even finding this bbs was a real challenge.
------------------
I'm just starting to use this after upgrading from TMPGExpress 3, and so far I've seen nothing but flaky behavior. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO USE THE SCENE DETECTOR? I've double-clicked the thumbnails until my finger is sore--in every combination I could think of--but to no avail. I did this with several avi files, but nothing ever happened.
There is supposed to be an editing password on this "hidden" bbs, but like so many other things about TMPG, I'm finding it's flaky, and when you enter your password to edit & hit "authentication", nothing happens.
The edit I was going to add was that even the thumbnails don't properly display for the mpeg files I tried.
I'm thinking of demanding a refund and reactivation of my VideoXpress 3.3 Has anyone found any redeeming features for 4.0?
I used to run TXP3.0 on a single user XP laptop (all fine btw.), uninstalled it and reinstalled it on a 2003 server (Remote Admin mode, no application server) and like to move the installation to the 2003 because this one is always on, can run long term jobs over night. I have not been able to install the license information to my Windows user profile although I granted "change" rights to that user for the application- & subfolders. In the "Administrator"'s profile: no problem. But in my "normal" (unprivileged) user profile the licensing is failing, doesn't accept my key (Validation failed) and seems to be unable to use the same license issued in the admin's profile. To be clear: I first tried to install the license in the normal user profile to no avail. Then I checked with Administrator logon: works. So the key must be fine, but...? I shortly checked the registry in both user profiles and have not been able to find some license info there neither any license files in the application folder. where can I grant the neccessary rights to my user so that he can install my license? No need to use it from the Admin profile; I'd like to "move" the license somehow.
On most programs when I double click their output files... the program opens up...
With TMPGEnc DVD Author... I can only open it from within the program... and the file better not have been moved from the original folder!
Is there any way you can "fix" it so that you can click the tda file and open the project? Thus be able to: 1) move the file from the folder originally used? or 2) rename the folder? or 3) rename the file?
This would be very helpful for archiving purposes.
I have D1 sized avi’s (720 X 486) that have closed captioning on line 21. I would like to make a DVD that also has the closed captioning in it. But when I make my M-PEG 2 (720 X 480) it moves the location of where line 21 is and thus the closed captioning no longer works. How do you keep line 21 where it is and just crop the bottom of the frame in the encoded Video……. Yes I have tried the crop feature and cropping the bottom 6 lines and it still moves the closed captioning info.
I had a copy of TMPGEnc Xpress 3 & 4, but it got deleted by mistake. And i need to work on it. The company's lines are always busy. Please can u send me a copy of both version 3 & 4 from ur computer.
I just downloaded the latest version and 24bit source audio is still not working, so I will continue to use TmpgEnc 3 as this works fine with 24bit source audio
Unfortunately, the help file cannot be opened with old versions of Acrobat reader. Please install the latest version.
Thank you for your understanding.
I have also a problem with not being able to access the helpfile. This is an Internet Explorer script error in Line 81(char 8) Code: 0 and the URL is: "mk:@MSITStore:C:\Program%20Files\Pegasys%20Inc\TMPGEnc%204.0%20XPress\HELP\TMPGEnc4XPress.en.chm::/00000.html". All I see is an empty chm TMPGEnc XPress Help window.
Yep, I didn't have Adobe Reader at all. I prefer to use Foxit Reader which is a full PDF reader in 1.5MB of code, none of this Adobe bloatware.
Unfortunately it looks like your application is BROKEN on my PC. Pity you don't state that Adobe Reader is a SYSTEM REQUIREMENT in the specifications for running it.
