FYI, this is not an official support forum. We're just a bunch of users like you.

You should use their official support form if you need an official response:
http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/support/support.html

You might want to try running the installer again and choosing the "Repair" option. You can also try reinstalling it altogether.

Bug report - TAW5 BBS - Problems with Full Encodes if project requires DL media No.66212
The Jazzman  2012-05-11 21:57:16 ( ID:yjad2xazoo2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

From a series of trials, details following, it appears that if the project files require a full encode, taking the project size to DL media/ more than 25gb in size, the project codes but is impossible to then burn.

Projects/ the codes were.

First project.
6 x 1080p DTS converted to lpcm, full encode, project size 47Gb.
Crashes ImgBurn/ Nero. Used TDK and Sony discs

Second project
First three files from project 1, project size 23GB
Burns with no problems.

Third project.
Second three files from project 1, project size 23.5GB
Burns with no problems.

Fourth Project.
Random selection of three files from project 1, project size 23GB
Burns with no problems.

Fifth Project.
Ripped Blu Ray.
No recode required, project size 45GB
Burns with no problems.

I found some tests about the brands you are using. Tests how ever are done more than a year ago and is about their BD25 discs.

http://blog.consumerpla.net/2011/02/blu-ray-media-sony-disks-review.html
In this test they mention that Sony began outsourcing their media to low quality manufacturers and that you have to read the MID to make sure that they actually are 100% Sony produced.
For safety reasons because of this, i do not reccomend using their media any more, since there can be duds between them.

http://blog.consumerpla.net/2011/02/blu-ray-media-tdk-disks-review.html
Test do sound promissing, but who knows if TDK not has done the same as Sony now, with outsourcing the production to a low quality manufacturer.
Lots of the old brands are no longer being produced by them selves, but by low quality manufacturers.

What i use: Verbatim
I have always used media from them, both CD, DVD and BD and have never had problems with their media. All my Blu-ray projects has also been burned well, but i have how ever never gone as high as 47GB, only about 45GB.

The Jazzman  2012-05-20 06:12:53 ( ID:s7kdofhndga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The disc used were all genuine, have learnt from past, bad, experiences ALWAYS to use good discs.

Really am reach the end of any sensible routes as they are, about the only things it could be now is either;

1) a problem with my burner, but it's still running/ burning fine other projects
or
2) the joys of a windows issue which my specific set up.

Think I might try the system rebuild first, while being a pain, doesn't cost much to do. If that doesn't help, I'll have to look at a new burner and see if that resolves the issue.

What is bugging me is that Author V4, still works fine, bar the fact that I can only get 4 parts on a disc rather than the possible 6 with Author V5????

Persen  2012-05-21 21:16:28 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If it turns out to the the burner it self who causes problems, then try to look at what Plextor is offering.
I am using their old PX-B940SA, the worlds first 12x BD burner. Expensive burner back when it was released, but it has never caused me problems.

The Jazzman  2012-06-18 21:45:00 ( ID:yjad2xazoo2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just an update to let you know I have I solved this problem!

After the rebuild and then a huge amount of reading, I have found that there is a possible (To keep me on the right side of microsoft!) problem with Windows 7 64 Bit, ONLY if you attempt to burn DL media.

It seems that if you have the right set of drives, you can not burn DL media, but can happily burn SL media. Here is the fun bit, this appears to vary from PC build to PC build and so the driver set on the specific build. So you can have two PCs which are exactly the same, bar say their audio card/ video card/ HD controllers etc. One will work and the other not!

I rebuild my system using Window 7 32 Bit and is running fine.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help :)

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Error- MPEG recreation from AVI type 2 files No.66210
Terry Thornton  2012-05-11 04:12:25 ( ID:ouhqko1pucm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey Guys, I am new to TMPG. I create AVI type 2 files using the AG AC-130 camera. I set up my encoding using general MPEG-1 settings:

MPEG-1
720 x 480, CBR, 2000 kb/s
Audio Layer II, 48000Hz, Sterio, 128kbs

I get an error about 1/4 into the compression.

Any thoughts on what might be causing the error. or at least a location to decifer the error message. Your quick reply will be appreciated.

Terry

Terry Thornton  2012-05-12 00:17:23 ( ID:ouhqko1pucm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay I have located the fix. Here's is how you do it.

Load a test AVI file.
Go to "options" tab in upper right hand corner
Go to preferences
Clip on File input plug-in
Un-Check Media Foundation file reader

You are done.

Question - TAW5 BBS - chaining TVWM5 and TAW5 No.66203
benoitm  2012-05-10 00:00:27 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I understand TAW5 can read TVMW5 as input file source. Apparently, TAW ignores the Format (output) section of the TVWM5 project, it only uses the Edit (input) stage to feed the source file into TAW5, am I right ?

If this is true, is there a way to have TAW5 use the OUTPUT of TVMW5, and have the projects automatically "chained" together. Rationale: TVMW5 has finer advanced encoder settings than TAW5.
Of course, this chaining can be done "manually", but requires (a little) user intervention.

Thanks

Question - TAW5 BBS - MPEG-4 AVC vs AVCHD and TAW lossless authoring No.66200
benoitm  2012-05-09 21:45:51 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a 1 hour 1080i/50 movie that I want both as computer file (MP4 to be played on media player box) and as disc to be played in a standard Bluray player (AVCHD disc compatible). For efficiency reasons (encoding times etc.), I would like to encode only once the source video as high-quality MPEG4 AVC.

I encoded using TVMW5 and ended up with a 7 GB, 14 Mbps CBR MP4 file (audio & interlaced video). The file plays nicely on computers and my media player box, but when I tried to make an AVCHD DVD disk from this file, I was surprised to see, at the output stage, TAW5 merrily transcoding the whole video (settings are set to video smart rendering). (Note: I decided to try an AVCHD DVD dual-layer disk instead of a BD-R disc, as the file size and overall bitrate are within specs).

Question 1: Is there a way to check file compliance for lossless authoring at an earlier stage than the output stage (where considerable time has already been spend fine-tuning chapters, menus, etc...) ?

Question 2: I assume there is something in my TVMW5-encoded MP4 AVC file that makes it non-AVCHD compliant (it is not completely clear to me what makes the difference between MPEG4 AVC and AVCHD, as long as some basic constraints are respected); what could it be ? here is the Mediainfo data:

Sorry I had to RTFM first...I have the answer to this question now :-)

>Question 2: I assume there is something in my TVMW5-encoded MP4 AVC file that makes it non-AVCHD compliant (it is not completely clear to me what makes the difference between MPEG4 AVC and AVCHD, as long as some basic constraints are respected); what could it be ?

reading the manual further, I think I found again the explanation myself: in the BD presets for MPEG4/AVC, max GOP length is 25, while in my initial MPEG4/AVC encoding, the default "non BD compliant" setting of 300 was used...

So remains this more general question: BD-compliant max GOPs are much smaller than for generic MPEG4/AVC files; I would suspect this would cause some quality decrease for identical bitrate (or higher bitrate for a given quality). Hence, does it make sense to have one set of MPEG4/AVC encoding settings for 2 uses: computer/Mediaplayer box on one hand and home BD player on the other ?

tkrave  2012-05-10 03:15:48 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You should use TVMW5's AVCHD or Blu-ray output template if you want it to smart render in TAW5.

Whether the GOP makes a difference is up to your personal preference. If you can't tell the difference in quality, or if the difference is minimal, then I would just go with BD/AVCHD compliant.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - TVMW5 Input File Reader Priority No.66196
dave_socal  2012-05-09 08:15:16 ( ID:pk8ltt7jtmj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've had problems in TVMW5 with working with different input file types and
especially avs input files that require the VFAPI input file reader.

I found that by disabling all the input file readers except the VFAPI reader I could get TVMW5 to run without crashing.

There must be a more simple way than enabling/disabling input reader filtrs
every time you input a different file type.

Perhaps simply changing the order of how the program chooses input file
readers might help make TVMW5 more reliable.

Does anyone know how to change the priority of the File Input Plugins?

Many thanks,

Persen  2012-05-18 09:25:47 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Options => Preferences => Input/output format list => File input plug-in

Here you uncheck everything but NOT DirectShow file reader.

Shut down TVMW5.

Go to the videohelp.com site and locate Haali Media Splitter and FFDSHOW, download them both and install them (Haali first, FFDSHOW next).
During install of FFDSHOW, you will be offered to change settings about video and audio, don't!
Just install with its preset settings.

Reboot computer.

From now own when ever you open a video file, the decoders TVMW5 will be using is Haali and FFDSHOW, two extremely stable decoders used by thousands of people.
It is also possible to open some videos files you previously had no support for, just open those by choosing All files.

You can get asked after choosing to open the files how you wish to import them, just choose Import 'as is', since that makes Haali and FFDSHOW take care of the decoding.

Bug report - TVMW5 BBS - TMW5 v2.4..68 crashes with AviSynth No.66190
dave_socal  2012-05-08 02:03:32 ( ID:pk8ltt7jtmj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Since I updated my TMPGEnc Master Works 5 to the latest version v2.4.68 I can
no longer process either mpeg2 or h264 using an aviSynth.avs file as an input
source. The program will start to encode and then crash/shutdown after about
60 seconds of processing.

Program is also crashing when I include a discrete ac3 audio file to process.

I upgraded my TMPGEnc Author Wotks 5 to the latest version and it is now also crashing with an AviSynth video and ac3 audio file.

Anyone have any ideas about why this is happening?

Many Thx,

dave_socal  2012-05-09 07:58:43 ( ID:pk8ltt7jtmj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK TMPGE,
Thank you for all your help.

I found a workaround to this bug.

The default setting for the File-Input-Plugin-list is "all filters enabled"

I disabled all input plugin file readers except the VFAPI File Reader.

The program is now running without crashing.

I hope anyone else with this type of problem may benefit with this information.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Installing onto several machine No.66188
Ivan wheelwright  2012-05-07 18:14:37 ( ID:2m0hdj6jlv2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi everyone

I'm a happily paid user of video mastering works 5.

I use this on my main beastly machine but will soon. E taking a trip and want to use my laptop to create some slideshow movies for friends while I'm on the road, which means installing my licenced copy onto my laptop, meaning a second install for my onelicence?

Is this possible as I've checked with so e other productive bought and been told in all accounts yes as long as you don't run it on. Oth machines at the same time. Which should be fine since I can't use the other machine at the same time anyways.

Thanks for any help

Ivan

Question - TAW5 BBS - Problem with burning disc or is it the coding? No.66182
The Jazzman  2012-05-06 22:51:48 ( ID:s7kdofhndga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just a problem I've encountered after the last update and looking for some help please.

I have a project with is based on 1080p lpcm files, which requires a full coding session, with a disc size of under 50gb. Now the project seems to code without any problems, but any attempt to then burn it, sends the PC into shock!

I've tried using imgburn (standard burning software) and then Nero 10, but each time they simple lock up. I have to use the paper clip reset on the burner to get the disc tray to open and then reset the PC via the rest button, not a windows restart.

Now this has occurred with all 12 of these files, 2 projects (6 per DL disc). I've also tried different discs, but with no change. However, if I jump back to Author 4, the files code and burn fine, without any problems.

Additionally, if I use Author 5, with a source which does not require a full code and comes in over the 25gb mark, requiring a DL disc, they code and burn without problem.

Has anyone else found this, or have I discovered a bug which occurs with a full recode of a project?

Persen  2012-05-06 23:49:44 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't use Authoring Works 5 for burning.

When encoding video, i always choose to create it to a folder of my own choice and not a temporary folder.
The files who gets created to the folder of my own choice, i then manually drag and drop in to ImgBurn's source window and set the burning speed and then just burn away.

Have always done it that way with out any problems under both WinXP and Win7 64bit.

The Jazzman  2012-05-07 02:55:50 ( ID:s7kdofhndga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I only use ImgBurn as my burner software, under Window 7 64 bit, using the system of a specific folder as you do.

The problem comes when I try to burn the disc. Everything seems to start correctly, but when attempting to burn, ImgBurn reports that it is "Reserving Track" and then just hangs. It does not move onto Writing Lead/ Sectors etc as with other discs.

As I said, this problem only seems to occur if the master video files, in this case 1080p lpcm, require to be fully recoded with the resulting project going over 25gb.

Thinking that this may be a bug of some type :(

Persen  2012-05-08 01:14:07 ( ID:as4qxzcqqln )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just remembered something about ImgBurn. Its not the case that you have a region free software running in the background, such as AnyDVD ?
ImgBurn has been reported to cause errors if such software also is running, so due to safety i always shut down my AnyDVD before burning.

The Jazzman  2012-05-08 03:41:16 ( ID:s7kdofhndga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yeah, you are correct, AnyDVD causes problems for ImgBurn.

However, ImgBurn does remind you to shut AnyDVD down before using it. Now force of procedure to do so before I even drop a blank disc into the burner tray.

I'm quite sure that this is a problem with the recent updates, so intend to un-install and then start from the very first version of Author 5 and see what happens.

If all work with the very first version, I'll would suggest that it points to a problem with the update :(

JoeH  2012-06-18 16:38:10 ( ID:b7zjukuawvj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have had this type of problem with ImgBurn with sources that are perfectly fine. It seems to me to be more a problem of incompatibility with certain types of Blu-ray media. I would try with high quality media.

Aussiewaz  2014-01-16 21:22:05 ( ID:ghelfdbhvnk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ImgBurn reports that it is "Reserving Track" and then just hangs. I had the same problem but only with 50gb discs. I tried everything then read the suggestion to close Anydvd before burning. IT WORKED. Thanks a million for the advice.
