Question - TE25 - Cinema Craft Ecoder No.26275
Dana  2002-08-08 23:17:44 ( ID:kwd1wwpglzw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I was just wondering. I am trying to decide which encoder to buy. TMPGEnc is so much cheaper than Cinema Craft Encoder. Does that mean it does a poorer job. Which of the two is better/faster and why? If anyone knows I would appreciate it. I am sure everyone here are big TMPGEnc fans but please help be be objective. Or at least refer me to some good reviews that have been posted somewhere on the net.

Thanks for your time

Nico...  Home )  2002-08-08 23:31:49 ( ID:ns4vu4p5in. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Personally I think that TMPGEnc does a wonderful job. And VCDHelp too... they said that TMPGEnc was the best encoder avalaible. It has a lot of options and possibilities and as you said it is cheap. So why pay more for less or equal features???

adv_h67  2002-08-09 08:29:57 ( ID:n7xx7gvsr2w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Cinemacraft encoder is, in a good percentage, faster than TmpegEnc. BUT... no resize, no filters, no VFAPI, does no accept avisynth/virtualdub frameserving (Version 2.62 and later), no tools for mux/demux mpeg streams,... CCE only encodes *.avi files very good and fast, but no more.
I think It was originally developed as a "professionals only" program.

ASHY  2002-08-09 10:07:38 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It depends on what you want the program for.
If it's for commercial MPEG2 production then you can't beat CCE for speed and quality. As for MPEG1 production there is no better encoder than TMPG, not even CCE comes close.

Having said this TMPG does an excellant job at encoding MPEG1 or MPEG2 and it's MPEG2 output is better than most other encoders and is by no means unacceptable. On the contrary the quality is very high.
As has been said the advantage with TMPG is it's versatility and filters, much more bang for your buck than any other encoder I know of.

Regarding the quality of CCE MPEG2 encoding and TMPG MPEG2 encoding. I would say the quality difference is really only noticable at low bitrates and is where CCE shines, the other advantage of CCE is it's multipass capability. Where TMPG has only a 2 pass, CCE can acheive 9 passes.

Unless you are a serious quality freak then I would say TMPG will more than suffice for most people and for the money no other encoder can touch it.

B_Racer  2002-08-09 12:35:54 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

BTW: The new Version of CCE ist working with AVISynth and VirtualDub directly ;)

And for MPEG1 there is nor better Encoder than the Panasonic-Encoder.

CCE is a lot faster than TMPGEnc, but not better, that's a Fairy Tale

Minion  2002-08-09 21:39:04 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I guess every ones has there opinion but I choose CCE hands down for encodeing speed and mpeg2 quality, there are no filters or resize but that it what Tmpgenc and the Vfapi converter is for, so you can use the filters and resize from Tmpgenc in CCE, so it is like haveing all the exelent features of Tmpgenc but with the speed and quality if CCE, the best of both worlds.....

ASHY  2002-08-10 13:17:01 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well B_Racer that is your opinion that CCE is only a fairy tale regarding it's superior quality, but most people who have ever used TMPG and CCE, and know what they are doing it comes to encoding, will agree that CCE has the edge over TMPG.
I used TMPG for a long time before trying out CCE, so I know how to get the best from TMPG, but as soon as I started to use CCE I saw the quality improvement immediately of it's MPEG2 files.
I have yet to see another software encoder which comes close.

As for your opinion about the Panasonic encoder being best for MPEG1, I think you mostly on your own with that one.

Question - TE25 - 920 megabite MPEG file... No.26270
Adonisxxx  2002-08-08 21:08:12 ( ID:he4tbdlesmn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello everyone I need your help! I have a 920 megabyte MPEG file on my c: drive is it possible for me to convert this mpeg into a cue file? And how could I achieve this?? Thanks guys for your help :)

Adonis xxx

ASHY  2002-08-08 21:12:17 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You will not be able to fit this onto a normal cd unless you use 99min cdr's.

You need to split this file using the MPEGtools and burn to 2 cdr's using VCDeasy or Nero.

ASHY

Adonisxxx  2002-08-08 21:32:12 ( ID:he4tbdlesmn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for your reply back Ashy! Actually I will be burning to 99min cdr¡Çs, so I wanted see if it was possible to do it with out splitting it up??? again thanks for your help!

ASHY  2002-08-08 21:37:03 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is possible. I think Nero is your best option as you may end up with an error if you create a cue file.

You will most probably have to use Nero's overburning option in the expert features to achieve this. Set the overburn to 99mins and select DAO when you burn. This will pop up a window asking if you wish to overburn the cd.

Hi,
when I am rendering a mpg with more than 4000bit/s,
my sound gets fuzzy and I hear a deep sound all the
time, like an earthquake.
My sourcevideo contains a lot of high sounds,
so maybe someone here could tell me if that's
the reason, why my sound is so bad.
TIA, Hajo

Question - TE25 - SVCD vs. VCD No.26264
Angel  2002-08-08 18:40:01 ( ID:5mr9jq63jc2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been researching the difference between SVCD and VCD. On many websites it shows that A VCD and and SVCD with the same bit-rate can be the same file size. IS this true and if so would there be any difference in quality?

ASHY  2002-08-08 20:45:41 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It depends MPEG1 is basically the same as MPEG2, but MPEG2 supports extra features such as interlacing and 3:2 pulldown. It is also better suited to high resolutions and allows more tweaking, so in theory MPEG2 is better than MPEG1 if you know how to tweak it.

Question - TE25 - Problem with home VCD reader No.26262
bouhraoui  2002-08-08 18:32:41 ( ID:zabjay2.dyc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I convert an AVI file captured by virtuel dub utility to mpeg and burn a vcd with Nero burning software.
The VCD is playing well in different computer but on panasonic home VCD players ( all in one : vcd, cd, K7 and radio palyer ) i can hear only some part of sound track but no image, can every one have any help.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

ASHY  2002-08-08 20:54:41 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Make sure you have used the standard VCD template.
If this is true VCD player then it could be that it doesn't like the files TMPG creates as TMPG does not create 100% VCD compliant files.

If this is the case you would need to de-multiplex the MPEG and re-multiplex with a 100% compliant Muxer such as the one found in the Phillips VCD 2.0TK toolkit.

Question - TE25 - Blue Screen Of Death whenever I encode! No.26259

Hey, all. I'm curious about something... I read that TMPGEnc can encode to DivX. But when I did output to file to AVI, it didn't list the DivX compression. How can I get that? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

ASHY  2002-08-08 20:57:16 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are probably using an older vesion. In these versions the there is a bug. The codec buttons are hidden. You can just see the oulines of the buttons at the far right. If you download the new version this has been fixed.

NewtronX  2002-08-08 21:09:05 ( ID:0ysy.lkdema )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

YES TMPGenc works great for DIVX. :o)
In order to select the codec:
1>Ensure the Codec is loaded to your OS you can get it from WWW.DIVX.com
A. Go to your Sound and audio devices under control panel>Hardware Tab>Video Codecs>properties you should see the codec here.
B. If no codec was present go to add/remove and remove Divx. Then re-install Divx (Cross Your fingers and check again)

2>Launch TMPGenc>Load the source>File>Output to File>AVI file>Setting (Next to Video)>Compression Drop Down>Select Divx>Setting and adjust to your liking.

I said in B. (Cross Your fingers and check again) because 5 months back I couldnÃÕ get my DIVX to re-install properly not a normal issue but it seems my systems registry got screwed up by a Trojan I picked up off the net. Damn Hackers. So the only way I could get all my video codecs to work again was to Wipe windows and reinstall. No big deal for me since I keep all my data safe on separate Hard drive.~NewtronX

NewtronX  2002-08-08 21:21:14 ( ID:0ysy.lkdema )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yeah.. Ashy has a good point about the Codec buttons not being visible in the older versions. They recently fixed that a few versions back thank fully.
I assumed in my other post you saw other codec's to chose from but Divx wasnt a option Since you said "it didn't list the DivX compression"
I use TMPGenc to make DVD's into DIVX's all the time.~NewtronX

I just started encoding and am experiencing the same problem but a lot more frequently.. After about 3 minutes the sound and video is out of sync and the they seem to correct. This process repeats itself throughout the entire video. I haven't found an answer yet but I agree it is very annoying.
