can You 'smart render' AVCHD' and output to a folder (not a BD disk)?

Don't think so...my AVCHD footage is set to full-render by default, which means smart rendering can't be applied. Most likely it is because AVCHD uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. Smart rendering will only be applied to MPEG-2 video for BD output.

Can't understand why there is so much emphasis on BD output when AVHCHD to <ANY OTHER MEDIA> is quite standard now with domestic hd camcorders.

Author Works is way behind it's competitors as far as AVCHD is concerned.

I think it's more the limitation of their smart rendering engine being limited to MPEG-2/DivX. I think that's why they don't have H.264 Blu-ray output.

Remember that using smart rendering depends on your output format. You can output your AVCHD as a DVD or DivX but it won't be smart rendered (even if their engine supported H.264) since H.264 is not compliant with the DVD-Video or DivX Ultra format--it would have to re-encode it regardless.

I think they only mention blu-ray and AVCHD together because they figure if you wanted to shoot something in HD then you'd most likely want to keep the HD quality. You can output your AVCHD as a DVD or DivX (and not burn) but it would never be smart rendered.

I have a JVC Everio HD300 (AVCHD) camcorder,i am annoyed with the MTS files, for they counldn't be edit on Adobe Premiere but now i found out a fastest and easiest way to solve it-just use a professional HD Video converter which can convert MTS/TOD/MOD to wmv, mov, mp4, avi, etc. without any problem.The software seems to do a decent job. I've had good results converting the .mts files to .mov, with the settings mpeg2, 1200, 1280*720, 25fps, aac. The files look good on my PC running Adobe Premiere, edit easily, and convert well to DVD format.

I would like to ask if i import a vob which doesn't need to be re encoded and in the cut edit timeline cut some parts ,is it going to re encode the vob (since i have trimmed it)?

If it doesn't need to be re-encoded, then it won't re-encode the whole thing, it will only re-encode the few frames around the area you cut.

Why the enable nvidia cuda setting does not work on the program?

i also clicked on the correct the performance optimization at next launch and nothing happens....when i'm converting... the cuda percentage is at 0,0%....

it is better convert using the hardware video decoder setting?

If you're just doing a straight conversion, I don't think CUDA will be utilized. It's used when you are applying filters mostly.

cuda only wrks when you are using the filters, specifically strong filters such as the video noise reduciton

I think hitting the abort button on the active project will pause it. Then click on "No" to resume. Elapsed time will continue to increase, but the actual processing will be paused.

I think what you are talking about is in Tmpgenc eXpress itself. Im talking about the batch encode tool, its almost a completely different program. If you have the cpu meter on your gadgets in win7 you can tell that all cores are running while encoding. Theres nothing i can do, like putting the cpus on idle, to make the cores release like in the physical tmpgenc express programs does when you click abort.

No, I'm talking about the batch tool that you can access from the Windows start menu (Start menu--> All Programs --> TMPGEnc --> TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress --> Batch Encode Tool).

When clicking on abort, all CPU activity goes to 0% until you resume.

After it's opened up, right click on the process and select "Suspend".
Select "Restore" to continue.
This used to drive me nuts also until I found this freebee.

I want to ask is there a way to copy dvd9 into 2 dvd-5 but preserving the menu and
add a text "PLEASE INSERT DISC 2" or "please insert 1".I have tested few different programs but no one them have the text at end.

There's no way to import a menu from a DVD into this program so no, it's not possible.

Trying 100 different ways and cant seem to get what I want. Maybe there is no way?
I have 6 TRACKS but trying to not have all those have their own menu page.
Looking to see if it is possible to have -

----- TITLE (Play and Track menu)
-------- TITLE 2(from clicking Track Menu) - (List all tracks and choose and play from there)

Do I need to set up clips differently during source ?
Should I have only created ONE TRACK and just keep 'ADD FILE' from that point?

How's this:

Choose to make a custom menu from the menu wizard.
Checkmark the option to create a title page for your top menu. This page will have a Play All and Track button.
Choose "Top menu only" when the option comes up.

That's it!

What I want is 2 menu pages ONLY
One that has the DVD NAME, PLAY ALL and TRACK LIST
The other with ALL TRACKS (from clicking TRACK LIST on previous menu) by name and when one of the links is clicked, it just plays. I don't want i going to another menu page.

The menu I describe does exactly what you want and it is only two pages. Have you even tried it?

Your first page is the title page for the top menu (Play all, Track buttons). You will have to add the DVD name yourself, which is easy--just add a text item to the page.

Your second page is the top menu. This lists all of your tracks. If you select the "TOP MENU ONLY" option, clicking on a track thumbnail will simply play that track and not go to another menu.

I did try it but I think I know what may be the problem. I mentioned this in my first post. I have 6 TRACKS all separate.
Under ADD TRACK I have 6 tracks. I think I should have just done ONE and then from there, click ADD FILE 6 times (adding each clip) and then I would get what I want in the menu. I think I have to do it that way.

If you have all 6 in one track then they will play back-to-back as if it were all one movie.

If you want them to be separate clips, then keep them in separate tracks.

In other words, if you want 6 tracks to appear on your top menu, then you will need to have them in 6 separate tracks.

To expand on my last post...

It all depends on how you want your clips to be played.

If you want all 6 clips to act like one long movie, then put all the clips into one track. You can then think of each clip as a chapter. After a clip is done playing, it will automatically play the next clip instead of going back to the menu.
If this is what you want, then choose "Track menu only" instead of "Top menu only".

If you want each clip to be its own separate movie so that it goes back to the menu after the clip is done playing, then make a separate track for each clip and choose "Top menu only".

Notice I am at the menu with a PLAY ALL and TRACK MENU
If I click TRACK MENU, I get a menu for CLIP 1 and many link options; to play, go to next clip and so on.

I do not want that. I want to click TRACK MENU and have a menu page that has all my clips and I can click any one of them from there and just have them play and NOT go to another menu for that clip. Just play.

Does adding the images make more sense now on what I have and what I want?

I see. Yes we're talking about two different things here lol.

Your tracks are set up correctly, it's the layout of your top menu that you need to change.

You're currently using a layout that only has one track per page so it's creating a page for each track. All you need to do is change it to a layout that has 6 tracks per page and you'll have them all on one page.
See the pic below for where to change this in the menu wizard. Any of the "#06" layouts should work for your needs.

The above is simmilar to what I want to do, as I don't like thumbnails on my menu. If you could give a step by step look at how I would:
(a) from a menu picture eof my choice, place a button that would link to the first movie, and then on completion come back to the menu.

I don not want to have, mutible pages or thumbnails. If I can do this Authoring works, will now be regarded as the best in the world.

I have tried to import an AVCHD video clip containing AC3 5.1 channel Audio and when I use the Standard Blu-ray template I can't get any audio other than "stereo". Does this software even have the ability to export 5.1 channel audio ?? whats the point in having "import 5.1 channels" if you can't export them using the Blu-ray template.

At this point, no, it can't encode ac3 5.1. Right now the only output format that supports 5.1 audio is WMV (actually it can go up to 7.1), but that's WMA or whatever WMV uses for audio.
I'm really not sure why they don't just implement dolby 5.1 output; some of their other products have it so adding it to their most popular product seems like a no-brainer.

So if i understand this correctly. If i convert a DVD to MPEG2 I will only get the stereo 2 channel and not the original 5.1 Audio. Is there any software out there that will convert the 5.1 AC3 audio in a DVD to MPEG conversion.

Unfortunately, your only option is finding some way to demux the file, render the Blu-Ray file as "video only," then remux the video and audio after the fact.

Hopefully we'll get 5.1 encoding and/or passthru when this new version comes out in a couple days, but until then, this is your only option.

Video Mastering Works 5 will have 5.1 output support for Dolby Digital.

How fast can I make a 50 minute DVD with Tmpgenc. I am interested in using this product to make DVDs from mpeg-2 files from my Sony hard drive camcorder. The files were shot in Standard Definition /Standard Quality. The files are of sports events. I do not want to edit the files, but simply rearrange the files. I would also like to have each file in its own chapter. I tried this with editors not specific for editing mpeg, but it took forever to get the job done.

It will be very fast since this product does not re-encode your video. However, since it is not an encoder, your source video must be compliant with whatever output format you're going with.
I suggest you download the trial and try it for yourself. I believe you can go through the whole process of creating a test DVD, but the your video must be less than 30 minutes (just a limitation of the trial version).
