Question - TAW4 - Pans not good on the dvd No.61602
Kysten  2008-12-13 22:21:15 ( ID:mjkiobrw9gc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi

I have just finished my first dvd and used some pans with the videocamera, but they appear pretty bad on the dvd. They are uneven and that don´t look good. What can I do to solve the problem?

tkrave  2008-12-15 23:04:39 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What are the details of your source video (framerate, file format, resolution, NTSC/PAL)?
What are your output settings?

Question - TE40 - Video Stutter No.58581
sarge_in  2008-12-13 10:17:04 ( ID:edjtwlsabff )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I convert DVD-Video to MPEG-4 AVC format (Main profile, Level 4, 720x480, Display 16:9, 29.97fps, 2-pass CBR, 4500 kbps, motion search 256, NTSC), the video has a bit of stuttering (the original is fine and smooth with no stuttering at all). It is quite small, but definitely present, especially when the camera pans. The resulting video actually hurts my eyes and gives me a headache over a period of time!

Wondering if I can tweak any conversion setting to make the video stutter-free, or reduce it significantly?!

Thanks!

citric_acid  2009-02-28 23:15:49 ( ID:hpktepc8w.. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try again but this time shut off antivirus and firewall, disconnect from Internet to be safe, and check your processes for any antispyware programs that may interfere with the transcoding. I stop processes like Windows Update checker, Java, and some HP stuff for my scanner.

Another thing, it helps if you don't use your computer when it's converting.

Question - TE40 - PSP 720X480P MP4 two question No.58579
profun  2008-12-13 09:27:37 ( ID:qfs3sgyeasg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I encoded 720x480p MP4 files and it works in my psp2000,but I found two problem,
first,the source file is 25 fps,then change to 23.976fps,when it done,it is pausal when playing,when i change fps 25 or higher,then it's perfect.
the second, the sound part is aac 192k,but it display 128k in my psp,I try to change
160k or 92k,but it's still display 128k,i play on my computer it display the ture number.why?

tkrave  2008-12-18 00:08:02 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I guess the psp can't handle 720x480p video with a framerate lower than 25 fps? I'm not completely familiar with the limitations of 480p video on the psp, but if you found that 25 fps or higher works, then you should use those settings.

As for the AAC 192k issue, I'd be inclined to believe the computer over the psp. Maybe the psp has problems reading the header file and obtaining the correct file data.

A psp forum might be a better place to get answers for these questions.

Question - TE40 - Deleting Source Files After Task Completion No.58576
RJ  2008-12-12 14:45:45 ( ID:v4nlqe7prl. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there anyway of deleting the source files after conversion automatically?

tkrave  2008-12-12 19:37:16 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm pretty sure this is not possible.

In my opinion, that's a good thing. If the original files were deleted and you weren't happy with the encode, you'd be screwed.

RJ  2008-12-14 22:48:22 ( ID:v4nlqe7prl. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, I do identical encodes on a daily basis so my encoding settings are finely tuned. This would be very valuable doing a large amount of encoding; I.E. I have 400 GBs to encode on a 500 GB hard drive.

Question - TAW4 - DIVX Ultra 1080p? No.61595
HEADRAT  2008-12-11 15:09:06 ( ID:6idu5nab3yr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

How do you select DIVX ultra to encode at 1080p, the higest resolution seems to be 640x480?

HEADRAT

myself  2008-12-12 08:01:10 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Looks like the maximum resolution permited by DivX Ultra is 720 x 576.

HEADRAT  2008-12-12 08:12:15 ( ID:6idu5nab3yr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well that's stupid, if this is supposed to be the all singing all dancing HD app why can't I choose HD resolutions :(

myself  2008-12-12 09:23:15 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think you can choose high resolution by setting the track´s profile option to "none" but may be the player wont be able to reade it correctly.

tkrave  2008-12-12 18:21:15 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can also use the DivX HDTV profile which lets you go up to 1280 x 720 resolution. However, I'm not sure if DivX Ultra DVD players will be able to play this at full resolution. Should play fine with DivX Player software on a computer though.

To change profile (or use no profile), in the Source stage, click on the Settings button in the track list. A track settings window should appear.
Click on the Video tab and select "Re-encode all videos as below" for the Encoder mode.
You can then change the Profile & level option to "HDTV profile" or "None" which will allow you to increase the output resolution.

lschaudies  2008-12-21 15:31:57 ( ID:hww43x32poa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you do as suggested and change to Re-encode all videos as below and select the HDTV profile the program still only allows a maximum resolution of 1280x720 which is not the full Divx potential of 1920x1080. TmpGenc Express is the only program of theirs I have found which will let you select 1920x1080 divx. I am disappointed that TMPGEnc doesn't allow full resolution Divx to be encoded in this software.

tkrave  2008-12-22 19:47:28 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

As "myself" said, you can choose "None" for profile which WILL allow you to encode at a full 1920x1080 resolution. If I recall correctly, 4.0 XPress operates in the same manner.

Question - TE40 - How to make psp 720x480p compatible MP4 file? No.58570
*******  2008-12-09 04:29:16 ( ID:qfs3sgyeasg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to make a psp 720x480p compatible MP4 file so I can play it on my PSP.
But anyone could tell me the detail?

tkrave  2008-12-09 20:45:17 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

In the format stage, select "MPEG-4 file output", and select "MPEG-4 AVC format" as the stream type. Click the "Select" button to proceed to the next step.

You can then adjust the bitrate, rate control mode, or whatever else you want. Details about the PSP's max bitrate seem to vary, but if this thread ( http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=pspmedia&thread.id=197737 ) at the Playstaion forum is to be believed, you can go pretty high with the bitrate.

I've never actually used this high of a resolution on my psp, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Maybe I'll try it when I get home tonight.

Pwnsweet  2008-12-16 10:53:18 ( ID:xslnwwpmrq2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

720x480 video is overkill for the PSP as there are only 480 pixels on the horizontal and 272 pixels on the vertical of the PSP's screen. Any video that has a resolution greater than 480x272 WILL NOT WORK on your PSP.

Therefore, if you are transcoding widescreen video, I suggest you set the resolution to 480x272, and if you are transcoding 4:3 video I suggest you set the resolution to 368x272. In both instances you want AT LEAST 384kbps bitrate, if not 512kbps for movies where quality is of greater importance.

These are the settings I use for Widescreen video and square video respectively:

4:3 Video - http://cid-b8f1db3b9d8d34bd.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/MPEG-4%20file%204.3%20output.txp4e

16:9 Video - http://cid-b8f1db3b9d8d34bd.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/MPEG-4%20file%2016.9%20output.txp4e

The advice I just gave you is the result of about 1 week solid learning to optimally transcode video to the PSP. Use it or discard it, it's up to you.

Pwnsweet  2008-12-16 11:09:48 ( ID:xslnwwpmrq2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Correction: 720x480 video will work on the PSP

tkrave  2008-12-17 02:48:45 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm guessing they upped the resolution threshold so you can output higher resolution video when you use an external monitor with the psp-2000.

My updated 4:3 and 16:9 settins for PSP, based on 1 pass Quantization. MUCH better quality than my last uploaded settings and SMALLER file size. Quantization ftw.

Question - TME3 - Transitions No.61157
JoeComp  2008-12-07 01:54:15 ( ID:v6tlqxx8ilm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just installed MPEG Editor 3 and am having trouble inserting transitions between key frames. I can find no way to make the insertion and the user manual is very vague about it. Is it possible that there is something wrong with the program?

tkrave  2008-12-10 01:01:53 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Transitions can only be applied between clips, so to insert a transition into one clip, you'll have to first divide the clip into two clips.

See the post below about clip splitting for instructions.
Once you have two clips, go back the Source stage's main window and click on the "Transition editor" button on the right side of the window. This opens the transition editor window.
Here, you can select your transition and press "OK" to apply it. Back in the Source stage, an orange arrow with "TR" in it shows that you have applied a transition effect.

Once you're happy with your transitions, you can go to the Format stage. Here, make sure that "Single file output" is selected as the Output mode.

Now it will be outputted as a single file with all of your transition effects applied.

Bug report - TDA3 - Sony M2TS file import causes freeze No.60826
Richard Tang  2008-12-06 13:17:39 ( ID:dbikxrau5ig )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MPEG2 streams recorded using Sony PlayTV on the PS3 are in a M2TS format. When I try to import these into DVD Author 3 or TMPGEnc 4 XPress, both applications will freeze. Would adding support for this format be added in future? Right now, I have to use an extra tool to convert the file to an MPEG2 file that can be used.

Thanks,

Richard

Question - TE40 - CUDA support in percentage? No.58568
fets  2008-12-05 22:14:19 ( ID:ejojojpcy9f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello Forum!

I read in this forum:
"the encoding speed of TMPGENC is faster, circa 10% (90% CPU, 10 % GPU)"

My question: where can I see this info in TMPGENC (working percent of CPU, and percent of GPU)? In one word, the "division of labour"?

I can't find this info panel in TMPGENC 4.0 Xpress.

Thanks!

tkrave  2008-12-05 23:32:52 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's just some text that shows up under the progress bar when you're outputting. You must have CUDA enabled to see it.

Also, just because it is using the GPU, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be faster. In fact, I think you should turn off CUDA if you are not applying video filters.

Fixed: An error would arise when outputting in BDMV/DVD target mode with a PAL track containing an MPEG file in the NTSC DVD-Video standard.
Fixed: An error would arise when returning to the Menu stage after deleting a track in the Source stage while the same track menu page was displayed in the Menu stage.
Fixed: A small audio defect would occur in a clip connection or cut-edit point when the audio output was set to the Dolby Digital format, resulting in an audio gap.
Fixed: Setting a track output format to BDMV 1920x1080i 25 fps would cause a verifier error.
Fixed: An error would occur when cut-editing/authoring an AVCHD source.
Fixed: An error would occur when using the chaptering tool on certain AVCHD data.
Fixed: Importation of a MPEG-2 TS file containing garbled data in the header would fail, or a long still picture would appear.
Fixed: Modifying the aspect ratio in the Clip properties would not be taken into account at the output stage when using the PV3 file reader.

Fixed: Part of the picture would not display properly (it would become green) when moving the window in a multi-display configuration when in high-speed rendering mode under Windows Vista.
Fixed: An error would arise when maximizing a window shared in a multi-display configuration when in high-speed rendering mode under Windows Vista.
Fixed: An error would arise in the Clip properties stage of the Clip editing window when setting the audio configuration to bilingual then changing the video settings.
Fixed: Error messages would still arise after the "Necessary files for the application..." message appears when launching the Batch authoring tool.
Fixed: An error would still arise when importing a valid TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 with DivX Authoring project file after the importation of such a project file failed on a "File not found" error.
Fixed: Disabling the "Output the original pictures used for the slideshow" option in the Preferences no longer deletes the "PICTURE" folder during the output.
Fixed: The seek bar would behave randomly when clicked if the "Move the playhead to the clicked location in the seek bar" option was disabled in the preferences.
Fixed: The audio bitrate would become invalid and the verifier error would occur at output when smart rendering was applied to an LPCM 20 bit or 3 channel audio source in BDMV output target mode.
Improved: Performance optimization and reduction of the memory usage.

Yes, it looks like there are still a lot of bugs in the program. I would suggest that people wait another 6 months before buying it and not becoming a paying beta tester.
BTW, I've also noticed they haven't addressed the H.264 issue, which is one of the most significant failures in my book.

tkrave  2008-12-10 02:31:23 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is the incorrect duration the only problem you're having with H.264 files? How much is it off by?
Again, H.264 file durations show up correctly on my machine. Point me to a H.264 file that I can download (a video podcast for instance) that shows up incorrectly on your machine so I can download it.

What other bugs do you see in the program?

Stan  2008-12-25 21:49:52 ( ID:k4tnkxecrgw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sorry, seen your reply too late and my trial version has now expired so I can't give you more info. The only thing I can say is that I was using a file that was encoded with Nero Recode using H.264 codec and it was read by Corel DVD MovieFactory just fine (with the correct length of the clip). It looks to me that AW4 doesn't like the H.264 codec very much, because other people reported similar problems.

tkrave  2008-12-27 01:03:46 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think people were complaining about there being no h.264 blu-ray output, not about any import problems.

Personally as i have stated in the support emails ive sent, this software just like xpress should have stronger support for avs ie avisynth.

But yes you are correct there are loads of issues still not sorted, 1 of which being that if the encode has an issue without warning or leaving a error message the software will simply crash. Plus you are unable to do 2pass dvd encode with avs, but can only do cbr.

also about dvd navigation links which i will do a topic about.

Which is another thing the dvd links, i had a project which allowed to add a audio page, yet would allow any links and when you did the simlualtion, of course you couldnt even get to the audio page.

For those unaware, TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress has been updated to version 4.6.3.268. Here are the latest revisions:

Fixed: CUDA - CUDA usage would not display when at 0%.
Fixed: CUDA - A color error would appear when using the video noise filter.
Fixed: CUDA - "Simple duplication on stripes only" and "Inverse pulldown (reinforced anti-stripes)" deinterlace mode would not function properly.
Fixed: When used in a Core i7 environment, the determination of the number of CPUs would become invalid.
Fixed: An error would arise when rotating a picture in the Slideshow editor.

Coould you also make CUDA work under limited users also and not just on admin level accounts? Shouldn't be that difficult to implement, and at the same time it would be a great feature for companies that don't want to grant their users admin-level access! :)

Bug report - TE40 - AVI conversion No.58560
andyvogel  2008-12-05 10:26:20 ( ID:e8tqv8aznvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

Since version 4.6.xxx the AVI conversion does not work for me any longer. I have to roll back to the latest 4.5.xxx version to still being able to use the program. If I click on AVI output format in any of the 4.6 version (that includes the latest update) the program just hangs and I have to shut down the process.

Sincerely,
Andy Vogel

tkrave  2008-12-05 19:52:35 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It hangs when you select the AVI format in the Format stage, or it hangs when you try to output the file?

What AVI codec are you using/trying to output to? What format is your input file in?

I haven't run into any problems converting to AVI yet, but if you can tell me the above info, I'll try it out on my machine.

andyvogel  2008-12-07 20:28:12 ( ID:e8tqv8aznvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

It actually hangs when I try to convert a MPEG2 file into an uncompressed AVI file. It hangs right away when I just click on AVI as output file.

andyvogel  2008-12-11 10:34:09 ( ID:ibqbazvfqdf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello tkrave,

Regardless of what file type the input file is in the newest version of the program I cannot even open the AVI conversion. Means I don't even get to the point to choose the AVI codec.

Thank you!

It's strange that it works in 4.5 but not in 4.6. AVI output has been working the same as usual on my machine.

Couple of things you can check and try:

1) Go to Options-->Preferences-->Input/Output format list, and see if there is a "+" in the Output column for AVI and Wave. There may be a problem with the program checking the AVI encoder if there is a "-" in the output column.

2) Try deleting the system config file for 4.0 XPress. This file is typically found in "C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Pegasys Inc\TMPGEnc4P". In this directory, there will be a file called "TMPGEnc4XP_SystemConfig.en" You can just add a number to the name or move it to a different directory instead of deleting it. After you've done so, start up 4.0 XPress and see if AVI output works.

3) See if you have the latest version of DirectX.

4)Uninstall and reinstall 4.0 XPress. It might just be a bad install.

tkrave  2008-12-12 19:29:51 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It may also be a codec problem. Try comparing the codec list between version 4.5 and 4.6 to see if there is a difference.

To check your AVI codec list, go to Options-->Preferences-->AVI settings.

When 4.0 XPress is started, it only checks the input codecs. Then, when you reach the Format stage and select AVI output, it checks the output codecs. Since this is where you're getting the lockups, it's reasonable to think that a codec might be the problem. However it's still odd that it would work in 4.5 and not 4.6.

Would you mind sharing your codec list?
