Question - TE25 - After encoding many files succesfully, now won't open my mpegs No.32011
kbks36  2002-12-17 01:44:03 ( ID:euv9znlec2m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, I have been capturing dvd quality mpeg2 files with MyDVD , ,through an Adaptec avc2200. For several days everything went fine with TMPGEN, I had my own template set up for very high quality SVCDs. Today, I went to encode a file as usual, but I get the error message about "file cannot open or is unsupported." I have never seen that before. I did not change any settings. And the Mpeg files are fine, they play in powerdvd and in ulead videostudio6. The files are fine.

Any ideas what could be causing the sudden problem, after working fine for so long?

I read many threads with similar problems and tried the suggestions but I think it is something more sinister, like a conflict with another program possibly.
Thanks to anyone out there who can shed some light.

minion  2002-12-17 10:53:54 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well All you can do is Try Raiseing the Priority of the "Cyberlink Mpeg2 Decoder" But if that doesn"t work they That Is probably better Cuz the best way to encode Mpeg2 file with Tmpgenc is to use DVD2AVI to make a D2V file and encode that with Tmpgenc..Tmpgenc doesn"t seem to decode Mpeg files as Fast or as good as DVD2AVI..I used to Have the same USB Setup that you have and Quickly came to the conclution that I could get Better Quality useing a $30 BT878a Capture card and capture to a Low compression high Resolution AVI format Like HuffyUV or Pic-Video Mjpeg then Encode the AVI files to Mpeg2, Because captureing to Mpeg2 Is a Lossy Format and HuffyUV isn"t you get Much better results captureing to AVI But you do need a Very Large Hard drive to Capture to high Quality AVI, I use a ATA/133 120GB drive and it is barelt large enough to hold a Whole movie in Low compression AVI..But as Far as Mpeg2 Capture devices go it is one of the better consumer products for Mpeg2 capture even Considering that it is a USB device that has a Much Lower data through Put than PCI...

Question - TE25 - hissing sound after encoding No.32009
erik  2002-12-17 01:27:45 ( ID:uj4bzxdhryn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i get a continuous hissing sound for the mpeg1 files that i have encoded, how can i resolve this? can anyone advise me?

minion  2002-12-17 10:34:54 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well you can use something else to encode the audio like "Headac3he" or you can use a External Audio encoder Plugin for Tmpgenc Like "Toolame" or "SCMPX"..They can be found on any Search engine...

nick  2002-12-17 00:21:04 ( ID:z/xu2ebrh.6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

During the Encoding Process, An error window pops up every 2 seconds - pausing the encoding. Error 9616 9616. I push Ok and it continues encoding. It still works but I don't want to sit and keep pushing Ok Ok Ok Ok for like the 6 hours it takes to encode the thing on the highest quality. What does the Error 9616 9616 mean and how can I fix the issue?

-Thanks

If you Only get this problem with Certain Files then the Problem is with the Files and Not tmpgenc..The Files could be Corrupted and Tmpgenc Has Problems encodeing Corrupted files..Downloaded Movies Have this Problem Quite often...

Question - TE25 - Best quality on SVCD No.32000
john  2002-12-16 17:58:10 ( ID:swd//k5my9f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What settings should I use to get the very best quality on SVCD from a DVD source.
I tried using the DVD setting and burning it as an SVCD using NERO, it played on my standalone DVD player but the sound broke up. Picture quality was good though.
I am also very unsure as to what difference the 'motion estimate' and VBR,CQ etc make. I just use the standard defaults.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

replic  2002-12-17 00:38:51 ( ID:hztmmyhjehm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

+ 2passes VBR (bitrate must be > 1900 to have good quality),
+ Dc component precision : 10 bit.
+ Hightest quality.

this can take some time with these setting but more optimised to avoid
pixate and anoying effect > 20hours.

if your standalone player accept try to encode to xsvcd (same resolution of dvd instead of svcd). It's incredible!

minion  2002-12-17 10:32:49 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The reason Why the Audio Cut out is Besause the Bitrate is Much too high for your Player to Handle..If you are going to Make a XSVCD there are 2 ways of doing it , useing Higher Bitrates and resolutions and Just useing Higher Bitrates...I would sudgest Makeing Just ones with Higher Bitrates but if you are going to use Higher resolutions then Use the resolution of "704+480" NOT "720+480", and Mosyt Players that will Play XSVCD"s will not play with Bitrates Higher than 5000kbs without the Audio cutting out and the Video slowing down from time to time..But I actually get Much better results Useing the Standard SVCD Resolution of 480+480 and a Max bitrate of 4500kbs and a Minimum of 1750kbs, and Useing the CQ method will Give you just as good results as the 2 pass method with Clean Source files....

B_Racer  2002-12-17 10:35:55 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

> 2passes VBR (bitrate must be > 1900 to have good quality)

2pass is OK, but 1900 kbps as AVG for DVD-Source? That's definatly not necessary.

> Dc component precision : 10 bit.

Like we germans say: Unfug (nonsense)!
10 Bit DC is for High Bitrates, not for SVCD. You can use it for DVD or XSVCD, but not for SVCD.

> Hightest quality

That's only for interlaced Video. If you use this for progressive DVD-Source, you can pull down Quality (Motion Search Errors may occure).

> try to encode to xsvcd

This will need much higher Bitrates.

ASHY  2002-12-17 18:25:16 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is now generally accepted on this board on other encoding boards that in most cases the 'Constant quality(CQ)' method will give superior results to the 2pass method (yes honestly).
Only in certain odd cases will the 2 pass method be better.

Try it yourself and you will see what I mean.

Encode 2 test samples with exactly the same minimum and maximum bitrates, one using 2pass VBR and one (CQ).

You should find the (CQ) method produces a better picture (i.e less macroblocks) and a better file size.

Question - TE25 - Illegal Floating Error! No.31998
Rick  2002-12-16 16:58:16 ( ID:cts0b298yqw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

every time i transfer avi files to mpg files i keep getting this error: illegal floating decimal point calculation order. does anyone know whats wrong??????

minion  2002-12-16 22:08:27 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This error Is Usually Cause By Bad AVI files...There are Probably Corrupted frames in the AVI file that Tmpgenc can not read..You can try to encode up to were the error happens and use the source range to start encodeing a few frames after were the error happens thn Join the 2 files with the merge and Cut...

Question - TE25 - Audio Dropout No.31994
Reelman  2002-12-16 16:23:15 ( ID:rv3owpl/etw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

I am using Adobe® Premiere® to create avi files and then using TMPGEnc Plus Ver.2.59.47.155 (2.59)to encode them to a MPEG-2 file. Everything works well except that there is a momentary cutout of the audio on every file exactly between 9 minutes and 27 seconds and 9 minutes and 28 seconds. This drop out seems to occur no matter what settings I use. Files shorter that 9:27 are fine.

How can I eliminate this drop out?

Thanks for your help!

minion  2002-12-17 10:25:32 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you Frameserveing from Premier to Tmpgenc of are you actually makeing an AVI file with premier and loading it into Tmpgenc???

Reelman  2002-12-17 15:04:03 ( ID:rv3owpl/etw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am creating the avi in Adobe® Premiere® and then loading the avi file into TMPGEnc Plus. The MPEG is great with the exception of this cutout of audio for a split second at 9 minutes and 27 seconds into the clip.

minion  2002-12-17 21:27:56 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well the Way to fix it Would be to Extract the audio from the AVI and encode it seperately then Mux it with the Encoded Mpeg Video file...You would save a lot of time and Quality if you Frame served the File from Premier to Tmpgenc instead of actually Makeing an AVI file and loading it into Tmpgenc...

Keep getting this error message when about to encode - also sometime getting runtime errors when opening files.. Using XP Pro SP1 - had no problems in Win2K Pro, juts wondering if ne1 else has the same problem and if it is something to do with XP???

Lugner  2002-12-17 05:06:10 ( ID:b72/xdlwc3a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had the same problem...

Problem is related to the XVID codec.

Install the latest codec from this link: http://nic.dnsalias.com/XviD_Install.exe

In this package, there's a tool called: "AviC (FourCC Changer)". With this tool, you can change the "codec signature" of the file from XVID to DIVX.

Once this is done, TMPGENC will think that the AVI is a DIVX and the convertion process will than work... I'm no expert in the matter, but I've read that DIVX et XVID are a lot alike. All I can say is that this trick worked for me!

Question - TE25 - out of sync No.31986
koka  2002-12-16 10:13:33 ( ID:8buzgb12aog )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I convert my avi's to SVCD with Tmpgenc, Adobe Premiere and Premiere Videoserver. OS - Windows 2000. After about 20 minutes, sound goes out of sync, at the end of the movie (40 minutes) for about 1 second. What the problem, what am I doing wrong. Is is a problem wiht Tmpgenc? Reading your BBS suggests that I am not the only one with this problem.

minion  2002-12-16 22:05:18 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

In Most cases Sync issues are caused by the Source file..The AVI might play in sync But after you encode it to mpeg it goes out of sync ,This is because some AVI files don"t play at the exact same frame rate that they are supposed to..This is Quite common with Captured AVI files, there is an easy explanation why they don"t play at the correct frame rate But to explain it would Take a While and I don"t have the time at this Moment to explain it in detail..Maybe I"ll come back later and Explain it when i have more time...

koka  2002-12-17 08:19:56 ( ID:8buzgb12aog )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Please explain it and tell me how to solve this problem.

Koka

minion  2002-12-17 10:22:06 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK ...I"ll try to explain Why It happens But there is No gaurantee that This is exactly what is happening with you, and explaining why It happens doesn"t mean that you are going to Be able to Fix it..Usually with Bad sync I just leave it alone and try something else Cuz Fixing Sync Problems Is Very difficult or Impossible...There are Usually 2 or 3 reasons why Sync Problems happen with Captured files, and These Usually have to do with Analog captures Not DV Captures.the First reason is because of Dropped Frames while Captureing. another reason Why sync issues happen Is Because while Captureing the Audio and Video are Captured On seperate Time Clocks..The Sound card when the audio is captured Runs on One Time Clock and the Video through the Capture Card is on another Time Clock, and In a Lot of Cases these Clocks are Slightly Different so Over a Period of time the audio goes out of sync with the Video..The reason why the AVI file will Play in sync is because the Audio and video are Interleaved with the Audio being the Master stream, so the Video will play at the same speed as the audio and the Video speed will be slightly different the the specified Frame rate..But when encodeing to Mpeg the audio and video are seperated and the Video is encoded to the Exact frame rate that is specified, and the audio is encoded at it"s regular speed..So this is How it goes out of sync...Premier Does not have a very good method for Keeping sync if there is a Time lag between the Sound card and the Capture card..I would sugest useing a Different Capture Program then you can take that file and put it into Premier to edit and add effects and transitions and whatever..What I"ve been useing that seems to Keep Exelent Sync is "Virtual Dub"..What it does is resample the audio so it exactly matches the Video or it will add or remove a Frame from time to time to keep sync with the audio....I hope you Understood My explanation of why sync problems happen with Certain Capture programs??

Question - TE25 - Error Opening File No.31977

I tried to cut a svcd mpeg file using mpeg tools
When i pressed EDIT, after a short wait - i get this error message

ERROR
Could not open this file with DirectShow. (0x800x40218)

sorry forgot to add . . .
im using version 2.59
and that the mpeg file is playable in WinDVD, so i dont think its a problem with the file

minion  2002-12-16 09:08:41 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Because a file will play doesn"t mean there isn"t a Problem with it ..Do you Have one of the supported Mpeg decoders installed????

shadey  2002-12-16 20:27:53 ( ID:n9t6dm4wrlf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

minion

so what are the supported encoders or decoders then ?

minion  2002-12-16 21:59:34 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Supported Mpeg2 decoders are "Cyberlink, Logos,Sony" You can tell if you have the Right Decoders installed if you go to the "VFAPI Plugins" and one of the Mentioned Decoders will be listed there ..If you have "Power DVD" Installed then you should have the Cyberlink Mpeg decoder installed..Many poeple have problems with the editor so if the problems persist then try a different mpeg editor...

ASHY  2002-12-16 22:00:24 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Minion is talking about an MPEG2 codec which is supported by TMPG. You can find which ones in the feature list.

ASHY

shadey  2002-12-17 02:16:40 ( ID:n9t6dm4wrlf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@ ASHY - where can i find the feature list ?

@ minion - I do have PowerDVD and WinDVD installed but neither of the decoders are list in the "Environment --- VFAPI Plugins" section ? ? ? Even with these installed - i wasnt able to open MPEG2 files for editing with TMPGEnc.

Though I managed to find a different decoder that works with TMPGEnc - I was from a codec pack i found on a site SLD but i have another problem - i manage to open the file for cutting and successfully cut a mpeg2 file - but the output file - it has 7-9 seconds of audio missing at the end of the clip.

I'm not sure, could someone explain what might the problem, please.

shadey  2002-12-17 02:18:34 ( ID:n9t6dm4wrlf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@ minion - what other MPEG2 file editors are there that i can use to cut and join MPEG2 clips ?

minion  2002-12-17 22:14:24 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well there Lots..One easy one to use is "Womble Mpeg2VCR" But I have been useing "Power Director" Lately and it seemd to work Pretty Good..You can download an Older Full version of Mpeg2VCR at ___http://www.apachez.net/___ in the Tools section....

Question - TE25 - aoLhaTer No.31975
aoLhaTer  2002-12-16 05:54:25 ( ID:qz0bjh1hneo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when doing merge and cuts, sometimes i get unexpected results in my output file
sometimes the audio will cut off later on in the movie. this has only happened once though and is probably because of a corrupted original (sound plays all the way through in the original though)
secondly, i often get output files that are not what i set them to be
example: the movie ends after where i set the mark out point while in merge and cut

whats cuasing this?

thanks

minion  2002-12-16 09:06:40 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc can only cut files at the beginning or end of a GOP so if you set it to cut in the middle of a GOP then it will moove the cut to the end or beginning of the next GOP, and the Editor does not work correctly with files that are VBR...To avoid this use a Different Mpeg editor...
